Abc and the perky Katie,

MarkO

"Keep up."

Bless your heart.

Danube of Thought

"Don't they know that all is lost and they should just go home with their tail between their legs and start pulling whiskers off kittens and serving dog off the barbie?"

Are you on some sort of personal crusade to make it impossible to have a rational conversation with you? If so, you're doing very well.

Ignatz

--Rather than dismiss the post-convention bump with a snide remark, maybe you can help us by addressing the demographics being discussed and the apparent awakening caused by Obama's rather tepid speech.--

Don't most conventions produce a bump of some sort and doesn't the second convention usually produce an advantage for that party?....until the bumps evaporate and no one cares because there are debates and misstatements, overseas events, etc.
If Ronny wasn't ahead of Peanut by ten in early September I'm not going to worry about Mitt.

"We've never even tried and one presumably has almost no chance of doing what one doesn't attempt.

"Name a single budget proposed or passed by a Republican that was less than the previous year's.

"Name a single federal department even attempted to actually be abolished."

Pause and ask yourself why none of these things has occurred. Could the answer be that it is because we live in a democracy?

hit and run

I am for Mitt Romney.

Captain Hate

Welcome to the SEC Mizzoo.

Sara

MAM: It is the weekend. Obama is always up in the polls on the weekend.

Thomas Collins

MarkO, I think the reasons are as folllows:

(i) MSM still counts, and it has framed the campaign to the advantage of Obama. Obama scandals are hardly covered. Obama's porkulus spending, which even a Keynesian would concede was not targeted for shovel ready jobs, is not examined. The talking points for Obamacare are not scrutinized. I could go on and on.

(ii) The country really is split. At least 45 percent thinks the Nanny State and printing money is fine. Happily, many of these won't turn out to vote.

(iii) Most people are just tuning in. Romney has to show them he is worthy of being given the job.

(iv) Because of agricultural and technological advances, people eat well and get decent health care even in a recession. So the lousy job Obama has done hasn't hit home yet (but watch rising food and gas prices).

(v) Dems know how to appeal to various segments of the electorate without losing persuadables (so far).

Sara

Are you on some sort of personal crusade to make it impossible to have a rational conversation with you? If so, you're doing very well.

Rational? Are you kidding me? How can the "dumbest person ever to post here" ever be rational? I am being as rational as I need to be to say, "Go O!"

I would think everyone would be happy to know that they won't have to listen to me tell you how wrong you all have been about that poser Mitt Romney. I'm now a believer.

Gus

Obama is TOAST and Sara is on our side. My hope for the Romney administration is that Mitt recognizes his place in history.
I think Mitt Romney is a nice man. I hope he is DEAD NUTS MEAN when he needs to be.
The road ahead will not be "nice". The COMMIES don't play nice. Ask Scott Walker.

Ralph L

the GOP pandering to Otto the Emo
POSTED BY RICK BALLARD

I've no idea what this means.

It really is frightening that a very few million largely-misinformed voters will decide this election, as in 2000 and 2004.

Sue

Rick,

From the prior thread I saw your link answering my question about polls. I followed your link and noticed in 04 and 08 RCP's average was only off by a few points at the end. And the person up won the election.

Odumbo

There are just too many in the entitlement class. We will have Obama for four more years.

Rick Ballard

"at the end"

Sue,

The polls do converge in the last two weeks before the election. This week will be mostly garbage (ex Ras and Gallup) but we should see more accuracy beginning after September 15. I would note that Romney retains his lead in the Ras Swing State Survey and that a big "bounce" in the deep Blue Hells is not going to affect the outcome in November.

MAM

Sara - so true about weekend polls - thanks for the reminder. We need to get ticked off. Remember when Obama laughed about there not really being an "shovel ready" jobs? HE CHUCKLED - WHAT WAS SO FUNNY ABOUT NO SHOVEL READY JOBS??? RR should play that clip in an add to talk about the stimulus payoff to the Dem hacks. The grotesque waste of money to pay off his cronies.

Sue

Rick,

Ok. It would certainly make me sleep easier if the polls would hurry up and show Romney winning.

Danube of Thought

"Rational? Are you kidding me? How can the 'dumbest person ever to post here' ever be rational?"

To question 1: No.

To question 2: it seems increasingly doubtful that she can.

But only a man with a heart of stone could refrain from laughing out loud each time her head explodes.

MAM

Sue - did RCP include the ARG poll that has Romney up by 3?

Sara

Obama Un-narrated Documentary/Review (in his own words)

Isn't he fabulous? Just takes my breath away and makes my heart go pitty patter and I won't mention what he does to the nether regions. He is so truthful, so transparent, cares so much. Join me and letting Mitt know it is over and he should quake in fear of this glorious man.

Sue

MAM,

I didn't look at RCP poll for this year. I was looking back.

Captain Hate

Roger Goodell gets some of his Bountygate suspensions shoved up his fat ass. What a wonderful commissioner.

MAM

Sara - I never look either and that's why I asked. Let's stay positive - or less negative - and forge ahead. This election is too important to throw in the towel with 60 days to go.

MAM

Sorry - Sue, not Sara!

Sue

I don't understand what you mean when you say don't throw in the towel. By watching the polls I'm throwing in the towel?

Sara

But only a man with a heart of stone could refrain from laughing out loud each time her head explodes.

Must kill you DOT that I have nothing to lose so you have nothing to unethically threaten me with.

hit and run

Sara, I wish you understood what it meant to be an advocate.

I sincerely don't think you do as it relates to commenters here.

As of now it appears you'd rather piss people off for some personal pique than bring people into the fold.

That's your prerogative. I just don't know if you realize that your actions could be counterproductive for Romney.

Sara

H&R: You just don't get it. I don't care. I'm nobody's advocate. I am just a single voter. I don't work for Romney and I don't take direction from somebody who spends half the day promoting Jennifer G as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oh wait, were you being sarcastic and irrational?

hit and run

Sara:
I'm nobody's advocate.

Nobody appreciates your support.

Gus

The scary thing about Jennifer Granholm, is that she is the FEMALE BIDEN.

And libs eat it up.

hit and run

I love you, Sara, I do. I'm sorry. Very sorry. I can't be more sorry for being such a . . . me.

I just don't think you get the ins and outs of blog commentary.

See how I took your last comment and twisted it?

Can you possibly see how you might have taken past JOM comments and misinterpreted them?

It happens. To everyone. Admitting that is a big step in coming together.

We here are all for Romney. We are. We will disagree often.

Your voice is probably more needed than any other. But your tolerance of everyone else's is too.

We're in this together.

(and I'll be derned if i don't tweak every single one of you bastages in the process)

I love you Sara, I do.

You're my favorite, and you always have been.

Jim,MtnView,Ca,USA

Wait.
Surcame is NOT cromulent?
Yike.

Sara

As of now it appears you'd rather piss people off for some personal pique than bring people into the fold.

Yes, I get up every morning and the first thought is just how many people can I piss off today rather than bring them into the fold. That is my single goal in life.

Well that and being able to walk again and have a life and that my kids will still be healthy and have jobs and my grandchildren won't get too indoctrinated by their schools and also be healthy.

I come here because I have a high respect for the amazing intelligence assembled on one blog. I respect nearly every poster here. You play the court jester and buffoon to make some very nasty and cutting remarks, I laugh with you, not at you. You play the fool and the drunk to say things you "feel" need to be said. Yet thru it all, I know you to be a good and caring man, an extraordinarily loving father and husband, and a good son, too. I am a woman of few morals or principles compared to many, but those I hold dear, my country, my family, my God, and those who fight and do their duty with honor, I would be willing to die for. And I despise defeatists and defeatist language.

It starts simply enough with someone believing as gospel something they read. Say, Romney pulling out of MI, WI, PA. That leads to someone else proving, with polls, why this has to be true. And then more polls, until we get to how the Repubs aren't any better than the dems and they won't do a damn thing to change anything. So, I'm convinced. There is nothing one person can do, despite recent proof, a la dear Jane and #emptychairday, to the contrary. The 10s of thousands who are showing up for either or both Romney and Ryan are wasting their time. It has gotten to be a regular Saturday/weekend event.

The people who participate here are exceptional and they have every tool they need available to them, their phones and their computers and their own personal networks and yet they are terrified of the MFM. They give them supernatural powers. Well I don't believe it. I believe one person can make a difference, I don't think polls 2 months out are chiseled in stone, and I certainly don't believe in giving the other side any insight into how we don't think Mitt Romney will make a difference over what we have now.

hit and run

If JMH were around, I wouldn't tell you I was going to bed for fear of making her feel as if I was abandoning her.

(if she were around I wouldn't be gong to bed)

As it is, I, the buffoon, must retire.

::clown bow::

Sue

Wow. Just wow.

MAM

Sue - I don't think for one minute that you are throwing in the towel. I was speaking for myself and how I get bummed out and distracted when I read the polls. Hopefully, next week Obama's bounce will disappear. Good night all.

Thomas Collins

Clarice hits another one out of the park. See LUN.

peter

Can you folks do me a favor and take a look at the Youtube video my 12 year old made at the LUN?

jimmyk

Great Pieces, Clarice. I just hope the DNC made the same impression on the vast muddle as did on us. I wish I could say I knew that for sure.

Incidentally, IIRC, I think Matt gets the credit for first coming up with Empty Chair Day.

marlene

Janet, are you OK this morning? Looks like nasty weather in your area. We lost power in our little corner of Maine when the weather came thru in the middle of the night. All clear this morning.

pagar

Clarice, Today's Pieces is one of your best.

kave

Peter,

The video was very cute, loved it.

Great Pieces Clarice.

Clarice

jimmyk, I was afraid of that..that I'd messed that up. Matt, forgive me please.

Clarice

Cute video, peter.

Rock Krusher

Notice to all males posting on this broadway show thread, please turn in your man cards immediately.

Where is the Sunday football thread?

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

Hey, marlene! Yeah we're good.

peter - I don't understand that YouTube counter...watched it twice, but the number of views stayed the same.

GMax

I go to Powerline and note Hinderaker has this. Seems about right to me. 55% - 45% in politics is known as a landslide. So what is the fuss about, exactly?

Maybe this anxiety is misplaced. President Obama has never been able to rise above 47% support in the polls, and perhaps when November comes undecided voters will break against the incumbent, as the conventional wisdom has it. Maybe the election won’t be so close after all.

I still say a blowout is coming. A Likely voter poll that norms to + 4 D might be right from a historical perspective, but it is very wrong for this electorate. Hide and watch.

jimmyk

Speaking of nasty weather, tornadoes yesterday in Brooklyn and Queens. Must be climate change, or maybe ManBearPig was in the vicinity. I was upstate for the day and only saw torrential rains.

jimmyk

And, if you don't object to clicking on a NYT page, some pretty cool pictures of those tornadoes here:

peter

My son's video was the result of a sleepover my son had at his friend's house Friday night. Three kids, nine, eleven and twelve, in the eleven year old's basement, using baby sister's toy cow, conceived it, filmed it using an itouch and edited it on a computer. Thanks for watching and for the compliments.

centralcal

Yay, for Sunday mornings with Clarice!

Boo, for Saturday nights with Sara. [sigh]

peter

Sunday morning. The rains have stopped, the humidity has broken. Church, coffee, and Clarice's pieces. All good. Regarding the Dem freak show in Charlotte, I don't believe for a second that our decider in chief was behind reinserting God and Jerusalem back into the platform language. It was a kneejerk reaction to the Republicans' pointing out that the Dem platform has shifted to a radically atheist anti-Israel viewpoint.

Clarice

Matt, I've asked the editors to correct my mistake and credit you with empty chair day.

hit and run

Best pink cow ever!

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

The DNC Convention really was something. Here is Gutfeld asking - Do Celebrities Think We're Idiots?

On the stage were millionaire actors whining about traditional America. Almost everyone that went on stage told a story of how their relatives had nothing, worked hard, got some money, & now their offspring are millionaires standing on stage on TV.
*student loans - do they have to be government student loans?
*abortions - they are legal...you won! Do we have to pay for them?
*contraceptives - they are everywhere. Go buy some. Why do other citizens have to buy this stuff for you?

If conservative ideals didn't work - work hard, succeed, be happy - those women wouldn't be on that stage.

pagar

Peter, Enjoyed your son's video. Like Janet mentioned, the counter is way off. I've watched it twice, as have others and yet it still sets at 9.

GMax

About that Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll that has Obama up +4. I could not quickly find the poll, so a went to a trusted friend and asked him if he had seen the crosstabs. He laughed outloud and said the polling went from D + 3 to D + 7. If that is right, there is no lead even in the afterglow of the convention. Believe D + anything at your own mental health peril. I have previously made the case why it much more likely that the only poll that matters, the one on the first Tuesday in November, will end up with a R + 2 turnout.

GMax

He might have been behind putting it back in. He definitely was behind taking it out in the first place. Not a wash in my book.

Clarice

jimmyk, those pics are amazing. We lost power last night for a few hours. The winds were very strong here as the storm passed thru.

Soylent Red

I have previously made the case why it much more likely that the only poll that matters, the one on the first Tuesday in November, will end up with a R + 2 turnout.

I've been thinking about this oversampling. Not only does it falsely weight the scale for Zero in an effort to demoralize the opposition, but when the election goes R+2-4, Zero will have done all that he could, and it was the damn lazy voters who finally did in Hope and Change.

In other words, in the event of a loss it hides the failure of Progressivism and protects the reputation of Black Jesus.

Good Pieces today, Clarice.

Now I must go to procure breakfast and much black coffee.

Rock Krusher

"Gallup polling today put Obama ahead of Mitt Romney by 4 points after the godless DNC Convention. Back in 1980 Gallup had Jimmy Carter up over Ronald Reagan by 4 points in mid to late September… And, Carter was up 8 points in October. In fact there was a published Gallup poll showing Carter up six among likely voters in a poll conducted Oct. 24 to 27."

Socially Acceptable Hatred

"It's the very leftists who shout the loudest about love of humanity who also harbor a very nasty case of the hatreds. They hate Christians for not accepting the gay political agenda. They hate Jews who are "neo-conservatives." They hate "fundamentalists" except if they are Muslims. They hate, hate, hate, because on the left, hating has become good again. It shows how much you really care."

Was it John F'n Kerry that used the term neo-con in his DNC speech. I think so. Man,....does that guy disgust me.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

Matt, I've asked the editors to correct my mistake and credit you with empty chair day.

Good. Great Pieces.

Sara, you are absolutely not the dumbest poster here, but you certainly are the most self-absorbed.

MarkO

Clarice, one of your very best efforts. Well done.

peter

I don't know how many of you read the low life site Gawker. When it comes to politics, it is a prog piece of crap. But they hit a new low when they endorsed pedophilia the other day. Wonder if this will be a plank in the 2016 Dem convention. LUN (not to gawker, just to people commenting on Gawker.)

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

Peter,

Fun video. Tell your son he rocks!

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

from that same link - "All the socially acceptable race hatred today is on the Left and in the Muslim world. I will repeat that, because it's the biggest point of denial among liberal Jews and liberal Christians. If you want to hear really dumb criticism of Jews and Israel, go to your nearest liberal Christian, who is really just a secular socialist."

bold mine. This is really true....although IMO the Christian in that sentence should be in quotes. Like so many WaPo "On Faith" writers...those people are not Christians...believers in Jesus Christ as God in human flesh, the one & only Savior, the Messiah. They don't believe the Bible. They use some of the language & the structure of the religious institution that they have invaded...but they are not believers.

narciso

Great pieces Clarice, when one recalls that the purpose of the media, is self perpetuation of itself and not the truth, much like Volodya's RT, it is much clearer.
Like a squid it cannot do anything but obfuscate, it's own track record. The part about Monica's rabbi was particularly choice

narciso

Yes,Gawker a real 'hive of scum and villainy' incorporated out of the Caymans,
willing to drawl deep in the trash compactor. That would be their next step, they probably cheered on Kevin Jennings.

Jane - It's gonna be a Tsunami in November

Hey what happened to the $1m threat to release Romney's taxes? Did Obama get cold feet?

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

peter @ 9:08....there was already a movie made with a "the poor pedophile" storyline. The Woodsman

I remember writing a long letter to the WaPo about a story in their Style section about that movie.
We are heading down that road for sure....pedophilia, bestiality,....

hit and run

The hackers set the deadline for Sep 28...

Cecil Turner

Few things on the Gallup poll:

  1. First, a 47-43 for the incumbent, factoring in the CW 75-25 undecided swing, is actually a 50.7-49.2 lead for the challenger;
  2. Gallup has a history of a particularly volatile LV screen, and tends to report RV until it gets close . . . but RV adds a significant (e.g., in a 2006 poll it was 9 points) Dem bias; and finally,
  3. we're in the range for an expected 1-2 point convention bounce for Obama.
All in all, I find nothing particularly surprising about that poll, and it isn't good news for the President.

jimmyk

I should add, in pointing out Matt's role, I didn't mean to take anything away from the great work of Jane, Janet, Sandy et al in helping ECD spread like wildfire. A historic moment for JOM.

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

It's all good, Clarice & jimmyk. What matters is that #emptychairday happened!!

Ignatz

--Pause and ask yourself why none of these things has occurred. Could the answer be that it is because we live in a democracy?

Posted by: Danube of Thought | September 08, 2012 at 11:32 PM--

Being a democracy has prevented the Republicans from even proposing an actual cut in spending for the last fifty years?
I suppose it's possible that's because of democracy, but it seems much more likely the Republican party has accepted the premises of the left and in fact some significant portion of it has become part of the entrenched DC problem rather than solution.
Democracy certainly hasn't prevented the Democrats from proposing to massively expand government over the last hundred years, most of that time being a period in which the producers and taxpayers far outnumbered the parasites and government dependents.
The argument that democracy prevents people voting against their interests should run both directions if it's true.
Pusillanimity, is the problem not our form of government.

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

Here is that old Jan. 2005 WaPo article - A Crime Ready for It's Close-Up

It is uber sickening...& it was written in 2005!...so Gawker's article is nothing special.

I wrote - "The article, and some of the films described ask society to "consider positively the idea of adult-teen relations", and to not merely demonize pedophilia. This sentence was especially troubling..."But increasingly, the glass wall of squeamish sanctimony that keeps "us" apart from "them" is being shattered.".
If that sentence is true, then I suggest society build an impenetrable barrier of absolutes that keep pedophiles apart from society. Is it only squeamish phony righteousness that prevents society from accepting pedophiles? I don't think so. Most people know to their core that pedophilia is wrong. This high minded dabbling with evil will bring ruin to our children. ..."

Clarice

Janet, the history of the world when it comes to perversion is a pendulum. Let's hope the one here is about to swing bag to a more normative place.

Clarice

*swing baCK*

Ignatz

Problem is clarice, the pendulum often, perhaps usually, only swings back after a society has been destroyed by its embrace and open "normalization" of perversion.

caro

YouTube numbers take awhile. Up to 26 when I watched. Cute,Peter. Amazing what kids can do with tools. But who picked the music?

henry

Ig, it depends on how you define "society". The left defines "society" as itself (MSM, academia, Hollywood, unions), and that self-destruction would be a good thing.

DebinNC

Re the polls, I agree with VDH's Tortoise and the Hare analogy with Mitt being the steady, plodding eventual winner. I'd like to see fewer "doom" postings and hysterical reactions, because they serve no purpose I can see except to encourage our adversaries and discourage our friends. As Dana Carvey doing GHWB would say, "Not helpful."

Clarice

Iggy, is that true? I think the social history of London suggests otherwise.

Janet - Why does Johnny Depp hate the poor? pourquoi?

Here is another good, no frills article on adult-child sex. This was written when the left Hollywood crowd was excusing Polanski.

Brutal truth.

peter

The entire youtube (LUN) was created by my kid and his friends. I have no idea where they got the music from, or how they even know who Olivia Newton John is, although it is possible they heard it in gym class.

caro

Peter, in rewatching I just noticed the sweatband. Hilarious. Music is perfect, however they found it.

Chubby

H&R: ((I am for Mitt Romney.))

I am for people who photoshop pictures of crazy speechgiving lefties in small, subtle, but very funny ways :))))))

Chubby

MarkO: ((I'm interested in something other than middle school snark about why, when the economy is in the tank and Obama offers nothing new, Mitt is not up by 10 points.))

at the risk of opening up a can of worms, I find that I am not responding well to the Romney campaign ads. The ones I've seen seem a bit too artsy and I'm having a hard time figuring out what they are trying to say, and would prefer them to feature short, clearly enuciated messages that leave no questions, and perhaps even leave a memorable line in my mind that will replay. Another thing I don't like about the Romney ads is they often feature other people delivering the message, people like Bill Clinton. Do I really want to hear what Bill Clinton said about Obama fours years ago? No I do not. I want to hear Romney himself telling me bluntly how much money Obama pissed away on his pet projects like Solyndra.

Barbara

I'm late posting, but I must say...
