Pulled from the NC Board of Elections this morning.

Total Votes: 50,674
Dem: 13,887 - 27.4%
Rep: 27,455 - 54.2%
Unaffiliated: 9,255 - 18.3%
Libertarian: 77 - 0.2%

Compare that with 2008:
Dem: 51.4%
Rep: 30.2%
Other: 18.5%

Those are breakouts by registration, not by vote cast (of course, you can't vote for unaffiliated!). But certainly some assumptions can be made -- allowing us to say there's been a complete flip of the parties, at least at this point. But we are in the early part of early voting.

Notably, the black vote makes up 7.1% of the 2012 early vote total -- 23% of the Democrat vote and 0.2% of the Republican vote. In 2008, they were 27% of the total early vote.

It remains to be seen if this is evidence of blacks staying home, or if they are less enthusiastic to get votes in early but will still vote when all is said and done.

I don't see how us circling the wagons around Ryan helps the cause. Ryan was overmatched. He does not have the maturity to know how to present the Romney proposals on tax cuts and medicare in a way that acknowledges shortcomings but emphasizes what has to be done. If Biden had not been such a clown he would have been declared a clear winner.

Romney showed bad judgement selecting Ryan. Huckabee would have been ideal if he was willing to take the job.

Well, I have wondered just how Benghazi was affecting the muddle and found out this morning at church. I sat by this woman who is retired military and asked her what she thought of Benghazi. She looked non-plussed and really did not know what I was talking about. The downside to Romney bringing economic growth to the country is that that growth will complete the transition of the country to a newly arrived immigrant land. A huge number of immigrants from 3rd world and muslim countries will flood the US once economic growth resumes in the country.

Ryan was an excellent congressman. What I do not like is the democraticization of forums like this one. Democrats are the ones who brook no criticism of the party line. The republicans I know are more open minded and welcome debate to work out the best position on the issues.

The really interesting number to me is specifically in Cumberland County. A 52-48 state for Bush in 2004. A 59-41 state for Obama in 2008. In fact, Obama picked up a net 26K votes in Cumberbland compared to 2004, in a race he won by 14K votes.

And your remark about thinking Republican forums are more open to discussion than dem's, I think you are correct. However, the ticket is set as Mitt Romney for president and Paul Ryan for vice president, so discussing who would be better at this point is kind of a stupid waste of time, don't you think. Huckabee has no desire to give up his very lucrative show or lecture circuit fees. Nikki Haley has a job as a Governor and does not have the budget background that Ryan has. You do know that he is considered the expert in this area by both sides of the aisle, don't you? And Haley Barber, where did that come from?

What the public, at least the conservative and Republican public, wants is for America to be strong, because they do believe in American exceptionalism and the addage of peace through strength. What they don't believe in is appeasement.

It appears the SEALS were killed at the annex maybe hours after the ambassador died at the consulate. I wondered why there were no masks in the kit or the safe haven so that smoke inhalation would not kill those attacked or involved in rescue. Sean's body was found, but nothing on how Steven's body was recovered or ended up at the hospital.

It seems like this should have been monitored from the situation room in real time.

yeah, I don't know about that. I think there is more of a divide in the Republican party over FP than the conservative media will report. The template shows up on the websites of virtually every school district in the state. That dovetails with the openended questions NAEP is pushing which is why Fla does better on NAEP (only given to maybe 5% of students in 4 and 8) but students seem unable to read well.

And then jeb's crowd who now have turned trumpeting ed in Fla as their livelihood celebrate the NAEP instead of state tests where the dominant emphasis on Whole Language shows up. That differential is based on what happens when you insist on WL with different groups. They vary in their at home remediation of its pernicious effects. So you get the different goals.

They either need to teach reading properly which the educators will not do because symbolic manipulation a la phonetic reading is what nurtures individualism and Axemaker Minds OR get rid of reading altogether. Which is actually where the digital literacy push is going. Fla is to be all digital by 2017.

My trip to beach was partly to have a little chat with the head of the Ed subcommittee in the legislature. I can tell who has been lobbying her when we talk just by the phraseology she responds with to my various questions.

So the digital literacy push will obscure print illiteracy and that is part of the purpose. Tragic, huh? If you can still communicate with the aid of a computer and visuals, you will be deemed Literate for official purposes even if the only words you can read are sight words in expected daily life contexts.

Quickly CCSSI will have made ALL groups literate. No more need for different goals now thanks to the miracles of the new standards. It's not like anyone actually reads all the different reports instead of relying on what Ed Week says is important to know.

I know fisking a NYT piece is like hitting the side of barn with a pitch, but today's Week in Review has a Kristof piece about why we really really need Obamacare. (I won't even link it.) The story? "Scott" has a midlife crisis, quits his high-paying job, chooses not to get health insurance, choose not to pay "a few hundred dollars" to see a doctor despite alarming symptoms, ends up with Stage 4 prostate cancer. Of course no one wishes anyone such a fate, but could there be a more textbook case of why we DON'T want Obamacare? Even acknowledging Scott's bad decisions, Kristof says it's only "civilized" that we take care of people who choose to be irresponsible, never discussing the slippery slope that leads to. (Or maybe he did, I quit reading.)

There are also lies: He didn't buy insurance because there wasn't a fairly-rated pool. Of course he could have continued with the insurance he had under COBRA for something like 18 months, but he didn't even do that.

Kristof's punch line: "When I make mistakes, my wife and friends forgive me. We need a health care system that is equally forgiving." Pheh.

many get out the vote efforts are inherently coercive and should be made illegal. Having a union member or a paid community organizer show up at your door telling you to get in the van to be brought to the polling place or given and absentee ballot is wrong. People should be allowed to make their own voting decisions.

I've had the text formatting tool for about five years with my FF but one of the FF updates several years ago killed my ability to use it. I think the problem is my Vista OS, since I'm still unable through successive updates to get the toolbar back into commission.
