The NY Times has more grim news from Afghanistan:
U.S. Abandoning Hopes for Taliban Peace Deal
Well, maybe things aren't so bad - the Times website headline is:
U.S. Scaling Back Plans for Peace Deal in Afghanistan
Whichever. The Taliban have outlasted us. Here is a bit of spin for nostalgia's sake:
Critics of the Obama administration say the United States also weakened its own hand by agreeing to the 2014 deadline for its own involvement in combat operations, voluntarily ceding the prize the Taliban has been seeking for over a decade. The Obama administration defends the deadline as crucial to persuading the Afghan government and military to assume full responsibility for the country, and politically necessary for Americans weary of what has already become the country’s longest war.
"Politically necessary" means that Obama couldn't or wouldn't take the lead in promoting his vision for Afghanistan.
The "Obama Surge" is now a certified failure.
Every single man who has died there since the day this nincompoop announced--for nothing other than domestic political purposes--the withdrawal date simultaneously with the announcement of his surge, has died in vain. And that is an unbearable tragedy.
Will the American people hold him accountable? It doesn't seem so.

Bush's surge was successful and Obama opposed it in Iraq. Even after it was claimed a victory Obama in an interview with Bill O'Reilly declared it a failure and said he would still vote against it.

Leading from your behind is never a good strategy in a surge. 1350 soldiers's lives are the responsibility of Barack Hussein Obama- no one else. He wanted to look like he wasn't soft on terrorism. We all know different. He wouldn't know a successful strategy if it bit him on the -ss.

When the Surge was announced it didn't come close to the requested manpower levels iirc. That by itself made me believe it was designed to fail. A question that the MFM will never pose to him...

JEF's an anti-american bastard who cares not about our best -- the active duty armed forces-- and feeds his ego and self-love 24/7. He's a punk; I loathe him beyond description. And the issue of whether BOzo personally signed all letters of condolence to families of fallen military members, as the WH claims, or whether a BOZO autopen was used to sign the identically worded form letters is still unrevolved a month after a veterans group vowed to hire experts to determine the truth.

PA. GOP voter suppression law hit a huge road block today. The law, which was intended to "help Mitt Romney win the state of Pennsylvania" has been described by many as one of the most 'anti-American' pieces of legislation in the last 80 years. A survey of registered Republicans found that a large majority favored taking the vote away from Negroes and women.
Head of the RNC Rience previous laughed at the suggestion that Republicans recent efforts to hurt the US economy and subvert the democratic process put them on a par with 'Al Qaeda'. Priebus said "we may want the same things, but we're fundamentally different".
Priebus is now at the center of an Investigation for hiring a Republican run company previously accused of committing 'voter fraud' in 43 states.

what did they know, and when did they know it
The question should really be more like, "How long have they known, when did it get briefed to the President, and what has/is being done about it?"
narciso, you can dig back in your noggin and put the pieces together. Folks here can do open source internet research and put the pieces together. The intelligence community has entire divisions or multiple organizations dedicated to terror groups in North Africa, to say nothing of joint intelligence inside AFRICOM. State, ostensibly, has its own intelligence branch dedicated to terror groups, as does DHS.
There is no way that the connection wasn't made and wasn't briefed at the highest levels. The only possible explanations are:
a. incompetence
b. indifference

Hannity was talking about it on his show last Friday. He thought he was going to get to talk about it before the end of his show. When nothing big broke, I sort of forgot about it. Today, he started his show saying he was pretty sure he was going to be able to show the tape during his 9:00 pm tv show. I got busy and missed some of his show, and since I've been back listening, I haven't heard him talk about it.

Posted by: Sue | October 02, 2012 at 05:30 PM
Good grief - with all due respect to Hannity and all - Rev. Wright didn't work against Obama all that much the first go 'round.
And, if it was truly some "bombshell" of a tape, I would expect Bret Baier or James Rosen or Megyn Kelley or any number of FNC news correspondents to be the ones to air it.
Sadly, if it is Hannity it is probably only "meh."
Posted by: centralcal | October 02, 2012 at 05:32 PM
I'm pretty sure it is going to be another "meh". Obama admitting he stole the title to his book "Audacity of Hope" from his pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Rehashing something old isn't going to be a game changer. I thought it was going to be something new.
Posted by: Sue | October 02, 2012 at 05:34 PM
--I think the tape is something going to hurt Obama.--
How? We already know he went there for over twenty years and never heard a damned thing the guy said.
Since Rev Jeremiah wed the two of them I'll bet he never even knew he was getting hitched to old Wide Load.
Probably thought the good Reverend said "Do any of you cats promise to love, honor and play a little b ball and smoke some choom?" and Barry said "I do."

Signs...
According to Howie Carr yesterday, his Brown sign was re-vandalized when one of his daughters inadvertently shut off the spotlight. They also smashed the light.
I saw my first Joe Cubed sign this week while commuting on secondary roads through some of the S/W Boston suburbs in order to get around traffic jams. There have been plenty of Bielat signs up, and some Kennedy worshipper must've gotten his hands on a Joe³ sign in response. I see far more Bielat and Brown signs than I do for Romney, though I noticed a few houses with the trifecta.
The houses along route 27 between 135 and 9 seem to be having a war of Brown and Warren signs. One morning I noticed that a Brown sign along the grass strip between the sidewalk and the road had been crumpled up, but since then has been smoothed out and reinstalled closer to the house.
When I started seeing Fauxcahontas bumper stickers, the first thing I noticed was that they use the Office Of The President Elect color scheme.
And one of the places that I pass on my commute has the front of their property filled with Obama/Biden signs, just like in '08. I guess they're one of the whatever-percent who might not consider Ann Romney's MS therapy something to ridicule.

I am sorry. No way FNC would let Hannity have any blockbuster scoop of a tape as his sole purview. Whatever it is, if Hannity is the one that has it, it is not a big enough deal to matter.
I'm not getting this. On Fox, who would they give it to? And, Hannity has broken more stories on Obama than anyone on that network, especially when it comes to race baiting. He is their biggest prime time star next to O'Reilly and O'R has never been less than a week behind in anything he breaks.
Greta, today, is up in arms over the order not to send out layoff notices in violation of the law and then let the taxpayer pick up the tab for the fines.

I don't see how it can be the tape from 2011. Drudge isn't going to put a siren up for something like that - not new, and not big enough.

More news on Libya - Security was a lot worse than we already know and the WH was in on it.

Well true, he was the only one who did any kind of investigation, on Jeremiah Wright, last time. certainly not O'Reilly, he's johnny one note, on the presentation,

the tape from 2011
Sorry, the 2007 tape discussed in the 2011 article...

They had tried to assasinate the British Ambassador, Dominic Asquith, (yes of that family), previously

The Five was pushing the video blockbuster bombshell at the close of the show today, FWIW.
I don't think it is the tape to which Sue has alluded.
If the "The accent... The anger... The accusations" is any indication, think 'clinging to their guns and religion' type expose with Obama (and possibly Moo nodding) as he rants about blacks.
I think you might could possibly add "the disdain, the condescension" to the descriptives.
Six years ago would be his last senate race, would it not? Wasn't that the race against Alan Keyes?

Who broke the original Jeremiah Wright story? I can't remember now.
Anyway, if it's Hannity, it will be promptly shelved by the MSM as partisan hackery rather than news, and the choir will once again be preached to.
Unless the word "reparations" surfaces. That could get some traction.

Greta's right..the layoff subsidy to break the law is unbelievable!
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:08 PM
Now Drudge says it's Obama's other speech on race and indicates there is anger, accusations and a shout out toWright.
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:10 PM
Sounds like it's a big effin deal--kinda strips the mask off post racial, post partisan cool guy with a nice crease in his pants.
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:11 PM
My point, exactly, Soylent. If it truly was bombshell worthy, FNC would trot out only the most credible of their journalists to air it - even if it meant bribing Hannity to get it away from him.
That it is airing on Hannity, (regardless of how we might all view it), it simply will not go anywhere further up the media chain.

I bet it's going to be Obama in preacher mode speaking to a black audience. Maybe saying something mean about Hillary Clinton. ;)
Posted by: Porchlight | October 02, 2012 at 06:13 PM
I don't think Hannity's content is controlled directly by FNC. If he or Greta or BOR has an exclusive, it's there's.
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:13 PM
It's definitely on Hannity. Looks like speech with shout out to Rev Wright in the audience. I agree that since it is Hannity, it will be spun as partisan hit yada yada yada. But I'm a sucker, I'll watch.

*their's*
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Maybe he's telling a black audience that Joe Biden wants to put them back in chains.
Posted by: Soylent Red | October 02, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Unless Hannity faked the tape, I don't think it'll be easily dismissed just because he got his hands on it first.
Posted by: Clarice | October 02, 2012 at 06:15 PM
I'm back to thinking it is the tape I linked above.
