Is ok. Now part of your regular doctor visits thanks to Obamacare, your doctor will survey your gun purchasing behavior.

Well guess what usual suspects are at play here;

"Verdict pending"?

These guys are a bad joke. I'd note they gave Romney 4 Pinocchios for the Jeep ad, even though they admitted:

The series of statements in the ad individually may be technically correct, but the overall message of the ad is clearly misleading . . .
Politifact called it the "Lie of the Year" . . . and this week it became obvious it was more correct than the Jeep statements the "fact checkers" relied upon. Here's some well-deserved derision from Mark Hemingway:
On that note, we all know that "fact checking" is kabuki journalism, but would it have killed PolitiFact to act like real reporters for five seconds and express some richly deserved skepticism about Jeep's carefully worded denials about producing cars in China? [ . . . ]

Now I'd be confounded by PolitiFact's total inability to handle basic empirical matters if their motivation wasn't so transparent. Their "Lie of the Year" write-up reads like a gleeful vindication of the Obama campaign. No really, they use the word "gleeful":

Using the same standard on the President's claims, the 40% number isn't even correct (it's a round-up from 35.7), and it's being used in reference to the "gun show loophole" which is in no case more than 4%. So, based on that, it's technically incorrect, grossly misleading, and based on faulty data. What's that, six pinocchios? (Or at least it would be, if a Republican had said it.)

Cecil T,

According to a local Blog, your old home borough, Fairbanks Alaska, has just passed the 100,000 population mark. Fairbanks North Star Borough hits population milestone:

Map of the Fairbanks North Star Borough

Despite having crushingly expensive heating fuel, winter cold that thermometers sometimes can't measure, and mosquitoes the size of small airplanes, the Fairbanks North Star Borough has reached a population milestone, surpassing 100,000 people

Sitting just beneath the Arctic Circle (Brrrrrrrr!) the paper looks for the reason.

The reason for the growth? Babies.

Child abuse if you ask me.

I just left a comment at WUWT but there's an NAS report out today called "Climate and Social Stress: Implications for Security Analysis" that cals for a (hyphenated just this way) whole-of-government strategy to deal with the supposedly now settled fact of climate change.

That has ceased to be science and has become the political organizing principle behind government. Pursuing an illusion with all the coercive and fiscal powers of the whole-of-government.

I guess we have that centralizing cultural thought the UN wanted to organize 21st century societies and economies around.

That was quick.

I accidentally killed my best friend when I was 15. Shot my best friend of eight years a week before we started high school. I was sitting in his room holding his rifle across my legs as he talked about how he had looked it up in some collectors guide and it was worth more than when he got it (Christmas or birthday or something). All the sudden there was a gigantic explosion and the rifle flew off my legs and I looked over as my friend fell over holding his gut and the whole world was tinted a hazy red.

This does settle what I thought was unfair speculation. I speculated that the reason party officials accept candidates with criminal records is because they know that they can usually find some larger offenses if they dig a little. This guy, definitely.

QUIZ TIME! (And no cheating)

The name of Abraham Lincoln's dog was:

A) Fido
B) Rover
C) Spot

He was a mid-sized, yellow-colored dog that looked something like a small Labrador retriever.

Obviously a Yellow Lab. Good taste in dogs by Abe, and listen to this good sense as well:

(The Dog) was apparently a full-fledged member of the family and was an inside dog with the run of the house. He loved a horsehair sofa in the home and often claimed it for his own.

His time with the Lincoln family ended upon Lincoln's election to the presidency. Lincoln noticed how terrified (the dog) was of the cannon blasts marking Lincoln's election and never enjoyed being around trains. Lincoln was going to arrive in Washington, D.C., via train, and as his train went through the various towns, church bells and cannons were going to be fired. (Lincoln) doubted that he would enjoy the trip much at all. So with great sorrow, the Lincolns gave (the dog) to a local family with the stipulation that he be an indoor dog, given special treats, allowed the run of the home, etc. In fact, the Lincolns even gave (the dog's) favorite horsehair sofa to the family who took over the raising of (the dog).

According the Poodle and Dog Blog, the Rolls (the new owners) were given the following instructions for caring for (the dog):

-He was not to be scolded for entering the house with muddy paws.
-He was not to be tied up alone in the backyard.
-He was to be allowed into the Roll home whenever he scratched at the front door.
-Since he was accustomed to being fed by members of the family during mealtime, he was to be admitted to the dining room during those times.

Who knew I was Abe Lincoln?

Also, per NYT there was a ginormous loss of viewers for the 2nd Coming Inaugural of the Anointed One.

In all cases the numbers were a huge drop-off from the same time periods in 2009. CNN was down for the period covering the oath and speech, from 8.119 million total viewers four years ago; that’s a decline of 61 percent. Four years ago Fox News had 5.291 million, meaning the falloff this year was 75 percent. And MSNBC dropped 25 per cent, from 3.022 million.

Almost makes you wonder who the hell voted for him, besides the media!

I have a theory - unproven - that the second coming of Barry I was a McCain moment for many left of center voters. Blacks and Obamabots marched off to the polls with great zeal, but the remainder held their noses and voted for what they perceived to be the lesser of two evils. So when you think about it, the full blown media character assassination of Romney was really the media getting to vote twice.

Not that it really matters anymore.

By chance did you ever do a canoe ride down the Missouri River to Leavenworth.

Did this when Ft. Leavenworth was my duty station. Great fun when the water is up. At the end, you can repair down the road to historic Atchison, KS, or the nearby Weston, MO for drinking and fraternization with the locals. Those houses were still there ca 2008-2009. Ran by them many times, up the long hill starting at the small gate onto Metropolitan, and then down around the bend to the airstrip. They were definitely cool old Plains Victorian, and I always got a little Horse Soldier vibe whenever I went by them. Apparently they were not kept up very well when I was there. Used to hear people bitching about them.

I used to work right across the street from the old Disciplinary Barracks, which they were converting into an MP barracks. That place reminded me to keep on the straight and narrow. Leavenworth also has one of my favorite golf courses in the Army too, groomed nicely by prison labor. I became a very good golfer when I was there because there wasn't much else to do besides golf, fish, raft and drink.

So it's hard to tell the players without a scorecard in this In Amenas debacle;

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal told reporters that a man, judged “by his English accent” to have been Canadian, was among the 32 Islamists whose raid on the Algerian refinery prompted a global crisis. One of the Canadians, identified only as “Shaddad”, is alleged to have played a leading role in the attack which left 58 hostages – including 37 Westerners – dead after a four-day battle with Algerian forces. Five further Western workers are still unaccounted for. “A Canadian was among the militants,” Mr Sellal said. “He was co-ordinating the attack.”

Planned Parenthood Sets Record for Abortions and Government Funding

"The nation’s largest abortion provider maintained its infamous title, performing 333,964 abortions—a record for the organization that received 45 percent of its revenues from taxpayer-funded government sources during the 2011–2012 fiscal year." ... "Last year, like many before it, Planned Parenthood saw a very comfortable income, reporting excess revenues exceeding $87 million and net assets of more than $1.2 billion."

If you've ever operated a Browning .50 caliber machine gun you'll know about guns firing by themselves. The gun fires from a closed bolt, so that after you fire a burst there's one in the chamber. After just a few bursts the barrel is hot enough to cook that round off after several seconds, so you sure as hell have to be mindful of where it is pointed, unless you open the breech and jack the round out.
