Via Drudge, the Weekly Standard has a White House photo of Obama firing a shotgun (last August). I guess he was aiming at crow, because that is what is being served.

Only one barrel has a choke in it, which is odd for skeet. Does Feinstein know the JEF has ported barrels on his shotgun?

Probably done to dissipate the recoil for Preznit Ladies Tees. I think he's shooting at something stationary and not at a great height.

Maybe a trap shot from station 3 (middle), easier to hit than a crossing shot. Plus you only need one barrel for trap.

"President Barack Obama shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David, Md., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)," the caption reads.
Aw, shooting skeet on his birthday. Isn't that sweet.
News reports had him playing a round of golf that morning before leaving for Camp David. That's a busy day for ol' Barry.

done to dissipate the recoil
I've seen many target guns with a shock absorber built into the stock for recoil reduction... I think the porting is to reduce barrel jump when shooting. A smooth barrel swing is key to target shooting.

usually ported barrels would vent the gases 360 degrees, at least on skeet & sporting clays guns.
It looks like a trap gun, but to vent all the gases from one side would tend to push the gun to the opposite side. The whole point of porting is to reduce recoil and movement so that the shooter can control the gun more precisely.
The photo looks a little screwey to me.
Posted by: matt | February 02, 2013 at 11:45 AM
Janet, that may not be accurate... the caption "Obama shoots clay targets" does not actually claim he was shooting "skeet". As we know "skeet" is a specific shooting sport, clay targets are just that -- no particular shooting sport is required (and as noted above the clay target may be stationary in O's picture). If they gave his score (Zero most likely if he shot a round of skeet), it would be better disinformation.

It is worth noting Barry is shooting a Browning Citori, a gun manufactured in Japan. There are several American shotgun manufacturers including special guns just for trap.
Doesn't he care about American workers?

Btw I want it noted that I've stopped calling Va Tech the Chokies as a peace offering to get Walter back; it's good for the duration of Black History Month or when I decide to use it for a cheap laugh. I really miss seeing that red-haired dollbaby Paige Greenberg; her presence justified Seth's continued employment.

Also noteworthy is Barry's form is absolutely awful.
His left elbow is way too low and he's back on his aft leg's heel.
He might have shot at a "skeet" once or twice but I doubt he ever actually hit one.

What I think this empty threat does is that it will probably incite a rash of Photoshop-type image modifications - for example, showing all the people and things that he really wants to shoot. Since there isn't a lot of scenery to the left of the end of the muzzle, I think that I would just cut out Obama, his gun, and maybe the smoke, and then overlay that image as desired. Then, you can have him shooting pretty much anything he wants - Boehner, the Republican Party, Sarah Palin, old people, dogs (for dinner), etc. Should be fun.
Which merits the reply from Rob: My only quibble is that being a government facility is really irrelevant. Now, if the photo was, indeed, taken by a government employee, then there is no copyright in the picture, whatsoever - the one big exception to automatic copyright since the U.S. joined Berne better than two decades ago. But, if there were, Photoshop-like modification of the photo of the President released during a gun debate would almost assuredly be Fair Use. And, no, the President, nor his family, have much in the way of a right to publicity. For one thing, he is the ultimate public figure, and therefore any picture of him is, almost by definition, newsworthy. And, where is their loss? Can't really be expecting to sell pictures of themselves, at least not until he leaves office.Posted by: Bruce | February 02, 2013 at 01:28 PM
We are to believe that Obama was shooting skeet on his birthday and not golfing?
So, I went over to the Daily Mail and they remind us he was campaigning in Chicago on the day before his birthday. He also took staffers out for burgers before a huge party at the white house.

President Obama turned 50 on August 4, 2012. How do you think he celebrated?
a) Attended lavish party in Chicago the day before
b) Ate burgers and fries before lavish birthday party at the White House.
c) Went Skeet shooting at at Camp David, Md., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012

If he was shooting skeet he was woefully out of shooting posture. I use to shoot skeet when I lived in Southern Maryland back in the 70's. And beside gun safety the first thing you are taught is proper standing stance.
Here is a short video of how to set up for skeet.
At the 1:30 mark he shows how it should be for a lefty but its all the same regardless of which side. BTW, I wonder if Obama even knows if he is right or left eye dominant. Just because you throw and/or write lefty doesn't mean that your left eye is dominant. Sort of important in shooting.

I know the critiques of Obama's stance/gun placement/aim etc. are mostly as reaction to his braggadocio, but it's making me even more self-conscious and anxious about my up-coming first-time at the gun range. And frankly, I didn't think I could be more anxious than I already was.

Alice,
Not being a nut you can acknowledge your beginner status and you will probably have a flock of kindly, helpful people around giving you useful pointers.
Barry, being a nut, has to pretend to be an expert at everything, even the things he fakes, and so people flock around him to ridicule the phony.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkywatzky | February 02, 2013 at 03:04 PM
What I want to know is his break count from all the shooting. Did he actully play Skeet or just did one station and a few shells? If he played Skeet and used 25 shells how did he fare at each station and especially station 8:)
He most likely shot 4 or 5 shells and missed all targets, gave up blaming the wind or the gun itself and went back inside for a cheesburger.

Hey Bruce, following up on the discussion you started yesterday, I believe there is a huge factor that was not specifically brought out in the insightful comments about the murder rates and the sub-cultures.
About 3 1/2 years ago someone here offered a link to a shrink website that had a world changing (for me) paper on psychopathy. The gist of it was that historically about one percent of the general population are psychopaths. Like other abnormals, their share of the pie was naturally restricted by society. Unfortunately, thanks to LBJ, the welfare state did precisely the anti-eugenic thing and rewarded psychopaths to breed exponentially until we apparently now have more like five percent extant.
In case I'm too narciso-like in my comment, the punchline is that the naturally occurring studly black psychos spread their seed around the inner city thanks to welfare queens being rewarded for many fatherless kids until that became the norm.
Now, statistically that happens to correlate well with the black community, but I believe that is just an artifact of the social circumstance that propagated it. Furthermore, I believe there has been a lot written (Thomas Sowell?) that argues that the black community was quite normal and middle class in their behavior after the War and only began to deteriorate with the help of LBJ.

marlene,
There is a great kayak rental place at the Palm Coast Marina. Lots of wonderful wetland canals off the ICW up by Bing's Landing off of A1A in The Hammock, just north of where you are staying. Lot of people go fishing in their kayaks.
JAX airport is closer than Orlando by 20 minutes. Say 1 hour 15 minutes using the East loop of 295 or State Road 9 in Jacksonville.
You'll love the area. Farmers Market every Friday and Saturday in Flagler Beach on the square. Terrific seafood resturaunts and a new one at the Flagler Pier. Our A1A drive is one the finest scenic ocean drives anywhere. Lot of great fishmongers in the area to take advantage of for your own cooking. Plus the beaches in Beverly and Flagler are sand not coquina and the surf is world class. There is always a gang of local surfers out there to entertain.
Look forward to seeing you down here on the First Coast.

African or European what? The Giraffe:) of the mouse:)?
Actually it was an amazing answer - none. The giraffe and the mouse like all mammals have the same number of neck bones - 7 (I believe that was the number the Veternarian hosting the show used).
Giraffe is my favorite of all the animals in the wild kingdom. Great book out there called Zarafa about the one Mohammed, the Emperor of the Ottoman Empire gave to Charles X or France as a gift. After traversing the Med, the French paraded it from Marseille to Paris. Fun read.

Flagler County code is leashes and poop bags. If you do that you can walk them anywhere. In fact, down A1A (south) is High Tides where you can sit outside with the dogs and have some great chow - right on the beach. Valet parking only because of the lack of property to do your own. Fun joint.
BTW, lots of "down easters" down here:)

What if it's just correct risk/reward analysis such as was used by Vikings in planning their summer cruises to visit the monasteries of England throughout the 9th century? Consider the prog plantations as operating under Danelaw (or Salic Law) with very rational sums applied to weregild transactions.
The savagery in the prog plantations is clearing them of productive blacks as effectively as Viking savagery cleared the productive Mercians from southeastern England.

If only THIS photo made it on all the MFM news programs...
photographic proof that Obama himself claimed to be born in Kenya.
(*I don't think he was, but I think he lied to sound more exotic...like phony Cherokee Warren)

--Only pro-gun advocates would use the image of a Negro wielding an armed weapon to bolster their case for less gun restrictions.--
Two corrections.
1. We are using it to ridicule the dumbass shooting the gun just as we used Duke's ride in the tank to ridicule him.
2. We very much want law abiding citizens of all colors to own and enjoy as many firearms as they please.
Only a true, twisted, little racist assumes a picture of a black guy shooting a shotgun is somehow threatening and an argument for gun control.
Physician, shoot thyself.

Barry Dunham just wasn't going to get him anywhere. Soetoro might have given him a better change.
'Brandishing it, lord love a duck. they are thoroughly useless. Like John Kerry meeting with Mottaki his opposite number.
