Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or a citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

I admit that I am no expert on the rules of semicolon usage but the way I read this it would appear that "I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion" refers to EVERYTHING written before it.

The Oath is a contract. Susan Sarandon entered this contract with no intention to fulfil the obligations set forth within the contract, as demonstrated by the attack performed in Boston.

Shouldn't we be asking if he was actually a citizen to begin with?

A false pretense should not get a real reward. Send him to GITMO.

RSE,

I was just thinking of you as I read the NYT financials. When the Ochs-Sulzberger oligarchs try and dispose of the reeking and partially dismembered corpse of the ZombieTimes I wouldn't want to be the attorney charged with due diligence in the matter. Valuation of the NYT pension liability tail would challenge the competence of the best Magic 8 Ball money could buy.

maryrose

I don't think there will be a special healthcare deal for congreepeople and their aides. This is too much of an affront to states that refuse it. The Supreme Court would need to get involved because it then becomes an equal under the law issue. It's a loser for repubs. Hopefully they will realize this in time and make dems pay for suggesting it. Boy I bet Sibelius regrets taking this flunky post and taking all the heat for the disaster that is Obamacare. What plan did the House repubs pull because of criticism?

Old Lurker

Maryrose, even if it does not happen, the mere fact (if it is) that Boehner would even discuss it is frightening to me.

MarkO

Boehner put out a tweet suggesting he was not in favor of the exception.

He might have been drunk.

Captain Hate

Does anybody here even bother defending Boehner any more?

Old Lurker

"...not in favor" is not the same as running to the microphone to rat the rats out as suggested above.

It is also the sort of phrasing that suggests it might be a card in play.

(Any way to post twitter formatted tweets here?)

Captain Hate

Boehner has had the tool available in the Continuing Resolutions of defunding Bammycare and he did it once, right after the 2010 midterm elections that put him in the Speaker's office. Those tweets don't mean a damn thing in comparison.

rse

narciso-no it doesn't work which is why we have to talk about it now. I get the AM Brookings alerts and a few days ago it was announcing ATL's plan in a Daley/Katz editorial in the local paper. I believe it is why Hall had and has so much leverage and the airport is a great asset. But they are forgetting what Regional Equity means. The prospering south must redistribute to the blue hells. This can only be a short term boost. But the no-nothing damage is permanent. And you can bet China and Korea and Singapore are not really subjecting their first class minds to not knowing anything. It's like the Climate Science scholarships hitting the best math and science students now in the uS to choose this area to specialize in and there need be no student loans.

Rick-pensions due diligence? Yikes. I did due diligence one time on a company and came back and explained to the partners why I thought they needed to not be a client. Turns out I had been set up to see if I picked up on and corroborated what the partner in charge was surmising.

I think Boehner recognizes that inside the Beltway there are mostly variations of the rationales for the OPM trough addiction.

Happy birthday Mark!

(A) nuther Bub

Shouldn't we be asking if he was actually a citizen to begin with?

I've been wondering about that for a week, TK, though I have not seen/heard even one pundit raise it as an issue during any discussion of Bro#2's rights as an American citizen. He was naturalized just 6 months prior to his terroristic spree. Why is the USA compelled to respect his status when he so obviously falsified his oath?

NK

My only beef with Boehner right now is THE BIG ONE-- Immigration. The ObummerCare stuff is baked into the cake, nothing will change until the Dems are going to have to come to Repubs to ask for changes-- that's the story with all entitlements, until there is a Repub POTUS.

Captain Hate

Yes I'm old fashioned that way (and probably others) OL.

HB Mark. What would be a good birthday gift? Brodhead resigning?

Neo

THE alleged involvement of two ethnic Chechen brothers in the deadly attack at the Boston Marathon last week should prompt Americans to reflect on whether we do an adequate job assimilating immigrants who arrive in the United States as children or teenagers.

... so, what happened to embracing diversity ?

It’s really hard to read these culturally bipolar intellectuals.

LUN

MarkO

"Brodhead resigning?"

Captain Hate

IOW it's our fault. Dear God I hate these idiots.

Rick Ballard

Why would Boehner want to dump the poisoned chalice prior to the Dems draining the last drop? It's fun to mock acting and staging of each scene in the DC Farce but some evaluation of outcomes should be considered from time to time.

How is sequestration working out for BOzo? How is the Gun Grabber Act doing this week? What's the worst bill passed by the House since the election?

NK

RickB-- that's a fair assessment of Boehner-- look he's not a bright guy but shockingly he's kept his December 2010 promise to 'not let anymore bad things happen.' One BIG reservation-- the noises he's made about Immigration and the Hastert rule. Will he stab us in the back on the BIG ONE?

Old Lurker

Not that I am complaining about the sequester, but like all of my very important neighbors I do appreciate that flights into/out of Dulles and Reagan are "somehow" not impacted at all.

Now if they would just restart that direct flight to Nantucket (seasonal) from Reagan, I can pal around with all the special media stars...

Ignatz

Happy Birthday, Mark.

Old Lurker

It does worry me too, NK, because the old DC calculus is always to trade things. One can fight for small things all day long but caving on immigration is a "bet the company" mistake (in this case "Bet the Country"). But with Fox seemingly in the tank for it too, I do not have a good feeling about the outcome.

That earlier book about the Chicago Tribune's Paris bureau, reminded me of this;

--Useless to speculate about the rationale of the fever swamps . . . --

To a point, but it would determine whether there might be some act so egregious by the Islamists that we could count on these morons to finally defend their country and civilization or if their self loathing is so pronounced that the greater the terror the more they can be counted on to ignore and excuse it or treat it as isolated incoherent incidents.
The difference tells us whether we're living with a bunch from the FDR wing of leftism which at least will defend the country at some point or a pack of creeps from the Alger Hiss wing of the party.

NK

OK-- I would have been shocked if GWB dissed Mochelle.

GWB classy and patriotic?... no surprise there. Good man... good Christian... IMO, he needs to pick an important Civic cause and show up Obummer's Leftism and incompetence.

Jim Miller

(A) nuther Bub - Here's a detail on one of our favorite NPR journalists: Dina Temple-Raston is the author of a book on the Lackawanna Six. So you would think she would be alert to the possibility that the bombings might be the work of a home-grown Islamists.

I haven't gotten around to writing my post about that, but I will, maybe even today.

(The list of her other books at Amazon suggests to me that she is an ACLU or SPLC activist who decided she could be most effective as a journalist, or perhaps a "journalist")

Cecil Turner

. . . whether there might be some act so egregious by the Islamists that we could count on these morons to finally defend their country . . .

No. And most especially not if there were some way to spin enemy propaganda against the true enemy: the GOP.

And this is nice. BOSTON SUSPECTS' FATHER SAYS HE'S RETURNING TO US :

"I am going there to see my son and bury my older one," he said. "I have no bad thoughts, I'm not planning any bombings, I don't want to do anything, I'm not offended by anyone. I want to know the truth, what happened. I want to work it out."
Very heartwarming. I see why he'd want to do it . . . not so clear on why we'd cooperate, unless we wanted to grill him. Also in the story is some gratuitous pontificating by Putin, along with pretending the Russians are blameless over Chechnya. I wish I could say he was entirely wrong on the pontificating part.

NK

Ignatz-- interesting point about the Dems' internal tension about security. I see the Dem split right now a little differently-- I agree there is an FDR wing (state socialism, Singlepayer, crony-state capitalism), that's still run by the Clintons-Schumer and Emanuel-Media, but I don't think there is an Alger Hiss (internationalist-commie) wing any longer-- instead there is a Huey Newton wing-- the racialist grievance/poverty industry wing-- led by Obummer himself. That's the wing that would give the Jihadis whatever they want-- but the FDR types see that as bad for business.

Danube of Thought

He then listed Hil, Barbara, and Laura.

What about the effervescent Rosalynn? Expresso unius est exclusio alterius, as they say in my neighborhood gin mill.

It very well could be the vendor of their firewall. For example, "BlueCoat" blocked the project/code control site github.com for a while -- which came as a shock to the IT department at work. Suddenly developers who were using the projects hosted at that site could no longer get to them.

Captain Hate

During The Daily Rundown, host Chuck Todd introduced a segment on the former president with a spew of Bush “gaffes." He then mocked, "I miss this part of Bush because Obama never does this stuff."

There is some "stuff" the JEF did that GWB didn't: Ridicule F Chuck at a presser in Israel. Stay classy, F Chuck.

Special treatment of Congresscritters and staff for Obamacare and pensions, huh? Federalist Papers #57, by Madison and Hamilton, says [my bold]:

If it be asked, what is to restrain the House of Representatives from making legal discriminations in favor of themselves and a particular class of the society? I answer: the genius of the whole system; the nature of just and constitutional laws; and above all, the vigilant and manly spirit which actuates the people of America, a spirit which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it. If this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate any thing but liberty.
