Ezra Klein dashes away from dumb by reprising arguments he unsuccessfully made four years ago:
Obamacare’s employer mandate shouldn’t be delayed. It should be repealed.
However, his colleague Sarah Kliff has brain lock in assessing the politics of the delay:
Others dismissed concerns that employers would drop health coverage without the law’s mandate. The vast majority of large businesses already provide insurance to their workers, without any federal requirements to do so.
Groan. For decades there has been a huge tax incentive for employers to offer health coverage - the cost of health insurance is deductible to the employer as a compensation expense but is not taxable to the employee as income.
Other than for so-called "Cadillac plans" that will still be true under ObamaCare. However, ObamaCare introduces a powerful cross-current - employers can drop their coverage, pay a small-ish fine and let their employees fend for themselves on the new, government-subsidized exchanges, or they can shoulder the expense of health insurance as they have in the past. Folks who run the numbers conclude that the fines are low enough and the subsidies for low-income employees high enough that many firms, and their employees, can achieve a win-win by dropping the company health plan and shifting part of the cost to the government.
Ms. Kliff's notion that a tax-subsidized strategy will still be followed after the tax subsidies are drastically changed does not mesh with contemporary economic thought.
they should have offered college credit for this seminar, however they would have to spot the cliffnotes to the folks at CNN and HLN

Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper reported that arrest warrants had been issued for 300 Brotherhood members, and the security forces were preparing to clear a pro-Mursi rally near Cairo University.
The state news agency MENA reported that the police were continuing its efforts to arrest "a number of members of the Muslim Brotherhood who are accused of inciting violence and disturbing general security and peace."

Notice how the MFM has conveniently * overlooked * the fact that St. Trayvon's birth mother, Sybrina Fulton, divorced Mr. Martin when Trayvon was a toddler.
St. Trayvon was actually raised from three years of age by his stepmother.

He's got to be careful. Trayvon also was under school suspension for stealing (I think) which is the only reason he was at that location and we've fund out recently that he had quite a record which was covered up by the police.
But it cuts both ways. You have to be very careful when you cross examine a grieving mother. However if she hasn't been around him in a decade it would seem odd to be able to identify his scream.
MOM is great at cross exam. If anyone can do it, he can.

I would be unsurprised by a de minimus cross by O'Mara of Ms Trademark followed by calling Mrs. Zimmerman (mother) to open the defense. It would be excellent theater and allow the jury the weekend to weigh the testimony.
O'Mara could wrap the defense up in 2-3 days next week (after the Kleagle denies the motion for a directed verdict). There may be a procedural problem in calling Mrs. Zimmerman if the primary defense is self defense but I'd sure like to see her testify right after Ms Trademark.

I assume the defense can call GZ's mom as a character witness if they want to, but that could open some troublesome doors.
Ditto with Trayvon's mom. If she says anything like "he would never throw the first punch," then it's wide open. But if all she says is "that's my baby screaming," that could be some powerful stuff.
Posted by: Danube on iPad | July 03, 2013 at 09:07 PM
Jane - You're absolutely right, MOM has a delicate task ahead on Monday. It is always hard to examine a victim's family member, especially a grieving mother.
Adding to that, MOM has to try to finesse-in the statement Tracy Martin made to police - that the voice on the 911 call crying for help was NOT his son's voice.
(Sorry for the delayed post. Typhus-pad was busy eating earlier attempts to reply)

Given the trial so far, Trayvon's mom might take the stand and say she's just not certain.
The jury already anticipates, from prior testimony, that she will ID the call. If that is all she does, I would stand and say, "No questions."
I suspect, however, she will make up something more.

Yes, the Muslim Brotherhead Government was terrible;
Yes, it was incapable of governing;
Yes it was in essence a failed State;
and Yes, Morsi was Izlamicizing the Government by appointing his cronies to positions of power...
My questions, since I haven't followed this as much as you guys and I hate CNN so I don't watch it much---were we getting such honest reports of how bad Morsi's MB Govt was previous to him getting canned tonight, or was most of this not previously reported by our domestic MSM Networks, and now only stated truthfully since he is gone and they have to explain why he is booted out of power?

Why isn't this surprising:
Officials of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said a gathering of its supporters near a mosque in a Cairo suburb was fired on for several minutes early on Thursday.
About an hour later, Reuters correspondents found the site calm.
It would appear that the Army's plan is to isolate and then ignore the Brotherhood boys. That way, when violence does break out, they can blame it on the Brotherhood.
