Yesterday's news today - Obama misunderestimated the likely employment around the Keystone pipeline. Here are the WaPo and Politifact:
Obama said the Keystone XL pipeline might produce about 2,000 jobs during construction, based on the most reliable estimates. The White House provided no supporting evidence and the administration’s own State Department predicted that while the pipeline would produce few permanent jobs, the construction process itself would create nearly twice as many jobs as the president said.
We rate the statement False.
Big deal. He lies all the time. Is this supposed to be newsworthy? ;-)

From my professional experience a line like Keystone will provide about 4 to 5 thousand direct manual (craft) jobs thru its construction schedule and over 400 non-manual in the field. The you have all the indirect jobs which are substantial. Unlike a power plant or refinery the economic impact will leave a much longer and expansive footprint. Lots of community's will benefit.

Those are just temporary jobs. It's not at all the same as lifetime employment at Solyndra or the security of having a public teaching position in Chicago. Yeah the story of the business acumen of the NYT keeps growing as we peel the onion back. Its not $1.1 B as reported above, but approx. $1.5 B as noted above. Apparently Pinch could not resist popping off in the press about what a coup he had pulled off at the time of acquisition too. Tee HEE.
The Red Sox owner apparently valued the real estate involved in the acquisition at $70 MM according to a couple sources, so he got the papers for free, which about what they are likely worth.
Posted by: GMax | August 05, 2013 at 12:17 PM
GMAX-- the papers were worth $0...... SO LONG AS Pinch ate the $100M+ pension obligations. Which Pinch agreed to as he knows full well they'll get washed away in a Chap 11 filing. The music will stop for the Dancing Chips soon...very soon... very soon indeed.

If ZIRP continues, the $100M+ could become $200M+ rather quickly. Should Henry decide to shut down the Globe quickly (the correct business decision), the NYT would be obliged to book the entire liability, quickening the pace towards the oncoming BK from a trot to a gallop.

Obummer is not close with the House of saud... quite the contrary he supports the MB who want to do the ful Mussolini on the saudi Royals.
And obviously, the POTUS for 8 years prior to 9/11 was FAR, FAR more responsible for the nightmare-- no response to AQ East Africa bombings, or the Cole, or the 93 WTC bombing and allowing AQ to grow unchecked in AfPak, tying the hands of the FBI-CIA inside the USA. All of those led to 9/11, not the POTUS stuck with the result.
