Big deal. He lies all the time. Is this supposed to be newsworthy? ;-)

sbwaters

No news here. News is something we need to know to plan a better future, but we already knew this.

It is, however, news to libs and progs.

narciso

In Blind squirrel news, barro fils, dings Krugman, it happens as often as Halley's comet.

Regardless of the exact number, it pales in comparison to the 5 million green jobs Obama created.

Meanwhile the WSJ has an article highlighting several new LNG pipelines in Canada to send energy to Asia.

NK

The Left has a problem with Arithmatic and numbers in general-- Look at the NYT-- bought the Boston Globe Company for $1.1B sold it for $70MILLION. Oh and did we mention the operating losses during ownership which no doubt were bigger than a net $70M. Remember that the next time the NYT talks 'economics.'

From my professional experience a line like Keystone will provide about 4 to 5 thousand direct manual (craft) jobs thru its construction schedule and over 400 non-manual in the field. The you have all the indirect jobs which are substantial. Unlike a power plant or refinery the economic impact will leave a much longer and expansive footprint. Lots of community's will benefit.

Extraneus

DEA going NSA?

The undated documents show that federal agents are trained to “recreate” the investigative trail to effectively cover up where the information originated, a practice that some experts say violates a defendant’s Constitutional right to a fair trial.
This whole privacy issue is ripe for a libertarian conservative. Lots of younger voters would be interested in the issue.
Thomas Collins

Obama probably meant he could only justify 2000 new bureaucrats to monitor Keystone. One the other hand, he could justify tens of thousands of new bureaucrats to get a new Cabinet level Department of Windmills, Solar Panels, Bicycles and Reusable Toilet Paper For Gaia up and going.

Every expense is justifiable unless it is in the Department of Defense and then it must be gutted in the name of the sequester.

Bananas?-- Do they dig up Howard Cosell to reprise his cameo?

TransCanada Corp. announced a $12B proposed pipeline to be built between Alberta and St. John,NB. Irving Oil then announced it will build a $300M marine terminal in St. John. If for nothing else you have to give Wiener some credit for persistence .
He's watched conservatives refrain from hiding their warts since decorating them is so much fun, and doubling down on the stupid is seen as smart.

He's oblivious to the concept of shame.

NK

..just like our JOM trolls.

jimmyk

"Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a *leader* who believed in creating jobs?"

Nitpicking, but I'd like the GOP to steer away from the "creating jobs" mentality in favor shrinking government and getting out of the way of private sector job creation.

Account Deleted

Marlene,

Those are just temporary jobs. It's not at all the same as lifetime employment at Solyndra or the security of having a public teaching position in Chicago. The President is only interested in real jobs, offering the lifetime security of pay and benefits which can only be found by working in a large metropolitan area such as Detroit.

The best part? The Times is still stuck with $110M in pension liabilities. Also fun is the story that 3 parties claim to have outbid John Henry for the white elephant, but you have to be a Globe subscriber in order to read it.

"Bellevue"

NK, do you really want to subject the fine denizens of Bellevue to Weiner? That might push them over the edge.

Annoying Old Guy

NK, Dave;

It gets better. The deal also included some properties that the NY Times paid another $300M for, so the initial price was $1.4B, turned in to a $40M loss. Smart economics.

"In fact, the sale also includes The Worcester Telegram & Gazette, for which the Times paid an additional $295 million 14 years ago"

NK

ThomasC-- fair point. ISOLATE THE WEINER!!

NK

AOG/DAVE--

it gets better better better!!!! (i.e. worse worse worse for the Sulberger Pref. Shareholders) -- the losses were huge --$1.4B all in?-- AND the stuff was purchased originally in 1993 in one of those phony baloney 90s 'stock purchases'. OH BABY-- Pinch is edging closer to bankrupting the family!!

NK

ThomasC/Dave-- what's Hohn Henry's politics? sane, or just another Billionaire Brahman Lefty?

James D.

Here's a question to which we all know the answer, but I'll ask anyway.

Since Zero is lying about this, and even his press lapdogs admit he's lying, and his supporters know he's lying...

Why doesn't Boehner, or McConnell, or even Rand Paul or Ted Cruz, call him out directly? I mean, get to a microphone and say "The President is a goddamn liar."

If nothing else, saying it so directly might shock a few people, wouldn't it?

NK

Pinch's Losses-- make that $1.5B (including the Legacy Pension obligations), PLUS the OPERATING LOSSES the past 20 years!!

Thomas Collins

Extraneus, I think I doubled on your 09:32 link. Just didn't check far enough back. IMO, it's a good link.

GMax

Yeah the story of the business acumen of the NYT keeps growing as we peel the onion back. Its not $1.1 B as reported above, but approx. $1.5 B as noted above. Apparently Pinch could not resist popping off in the press about what a coup he had pulled off at the time of acquisition too. Tee HEE.

The Red Sox owner apparently valued the real estate involved in the acquisition at $70 MM according to a couple sources, so he got the papers for free, which about what they are likely worth.

NK

GMAX-- the papers were worth $0...... SO LONG AS Pinch ate the $100M+ pension obligations. Which Pinch agreed to as he knows full well they'll get washed away in a Chap 11 filing. The music will stop for the Dancing Chips soon...very soon... very soon indeed.

matt

So which movie is Weiner channeling? Bananas? The In Laws? Moon over Parador?

And what do the Israelis and other more sensible intelligence services say about the possible AQ attack? Our human intel is worthless these days, so we listen to traffic and have to decode and translate and interpret.

Oh yeah.....The White House burned the British agent inside AQAP....all the while witch hunting throughout the CIA and DoD.

And from the media and experts.....crickets....

Sue

Doesn't closing our embassies signal a win for AQ?

NK

Matt@12:21 fantastic post, three great central/south american political spoofs-- Moon Over Parador!! that had completely left my consciousness, Dreyfuss was useless of course, but Raul julia was sublime... I miss Raul J;

Sue@12:23: Yes, it is...a big one.

Extraneus

They're on the run, Sue.

Bailey

"Doesn't closing our embassies signal a win for AQ?"

Yes. Leaving the embassy open in Benghazi; also a win for AQ.

NK

Yes AQ is racking up big wins in Benghazi, and now in closing embassies. ALL AQ WINS.
(PLUS Obummer forcing Egypt to include MB in the government.)

Common element? Obummer is a F#%^KING incompetent Muppet and Anti-American shill for the worldwide Caliphate!!

Account Deleted

"SO LONG AS Pinch ate the $100M+ pension obligations."

If ZIRP continues, the $100M+ could become $200M+ rather quickly. Should Henry decide to shut down the Globe quickly (the correct business decision), the NYT would be obliged to book the entire liability, quickening the pace towards the oncoming BK from a trot to a gallop.

The prognosis for a bad case of progressive rot remains terminal.

Bailey

" Obummer is a F#%^KING incompetent Muppet and Anti-American shill for the worldwide Caliphate!!"

Whoa. Imagine your pique if he'd been POTUS on 9/11.

I don't think the bonding is as intimate with the Saud as GWB, but they are Muslims, however I think Obama is Shia, so they can't be close.

GMax

The prognosis for a bad case of progressive rot remains terminal.

Rick, you are so cruel. A bunch inumerate prog trolls just had their whole week ruined. They thought there were still plenty of checks in the checkbook, they follow the Keith Ellison philosophy to the letter, "There is still plenty of money, its just not in the government." DOH

NK

Obummer is not close with the House of saud... quite the contrary he supports the MB who want to do the ful Mussolini on the saudi Royals.

And obviously, the POTUS for 8 years prior to 9/11 was FAR, FAR more responsible for the nightmare-- no response to AQ East Africa bombings, or the Cole, or the 93 WTC bombing and allowing AQ to grow unchecked in AfPak, tying the hands of the FBI-CIA inside the USA. All of those led to 9/11, not the POTUS stuck with the result.

GMax

At least Zero's policy of "no conditions" on talks with the Iranians has has been fruitful! LOL

NK

RickB-- IMO those pensions will never be paid-- they get Chap. 11ed when Pinch files. The Journos will have a real live Les Mis at 8th avenue and 41st street, they'll be singing .... "One more day to kill the Pinch.... one more day to burn it down..." I'll bring a lawn chair an adult beverages and watch.

Wahab, Shia, Takfiri Salafist, Sufi or what?

GMax

NK

The MB and Obummer are not primarily religiously dogmatic, they are about political power. MB wants Islamist worldwide Manifest Destiny (except in China-- too many Chinese, Serbia-- manaical serbs and russia-- too many nukes and Vlad would use them)
Obummer wants Ammerica to fail and no longer be a world power-- so MB and Obummer's goals overlap, even though Obummer has no religious convictions.... other than in Obummer.

matt

One of the very strange twists in the Egyptian narrative now is the sheer lunacy and hatred of the United States, and especially Obama. All sorts of wild accusations of US intervention and support of the MB.

Many Egyptians are fixated on the US as the source of their problems. Great job, Mr. President! Another victory for reset!

NK

Matt-- the Egyptian people have it right... Obummer is in league with the MB... in Egypt and world-wide

Account Deleted

NK,

I don't find "The New York Times Newspaper Guild" (which appears in the 10K) to be covered by the PBGC. The NYT shows a pension and benefit liability of over $900 million and ZIRP puts them in the position of catching knives falling from a great height.

The press Jacobins need to get their Committee of Public Safety formed and schedule an appointment with Mr. Sulzberger at the earliest opportunity if they wish to maintain access to the more flavorful bits of the corpse of the New York Times.

Dave (in MA)

The MLB suspensions are out. One token Italian-American among all the White Hispanics.

Thomas Collins

Matt, my only hope for US/Egyptian relations is that military to military relations are still good. Sun Tzu Obama has accomplished the trifecta of angering the Egyptian military, those Egyptians with secular leanings, and the Muslim Brotherhood. Add al-Sisi to the world leaders who can't believe what a doofus is currently POTUS.

Mandy Rice Davies

@1:01 The Thuggee: viciously strangled victims with anything handy from power cords to spaghetti. I said they were vicious, not smart.

NK

RickB-- oh.... IMO... ALL NYT pensioners get the sharp end of the Kabob Knife, the Globe, and the NYT guilds -- all of them. You don't think Uncle Carlos 'invested' in the NYT with any intention of ever paying penny one of those pensions?

jimmyk

A ploy to back out of some lib-moderated debates without doing so on principle?

The RNC threat only pertains to primary debates. That seems like Cleavon Little's threat in "Blazing Saddles." The real problem is the debates between the D and R nominees. It would be nice if the RNC made a statement right now cataloging the sins of past "moderators," most notably Crowley, and staked out a position now of demanding veto power over any moderator.
