COLORADO SPRINGS — Two Colorado Democrats who provided crucial support for a slate of tough new gun-control laws were voted out of office on Tuesday in a recall vote widely seen as a test of popular support for gun restrictions after mass shootings in a Colorado movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.
The election, which came five months after the United States Senate defeated several gun restrictions, handed another loss to gun-control supporters. It also gave moderate lawmakers across the country a warning about the political risks of voting for tougher gun laws.
Money talked, then walked:
While both sides campaigned vigorously, knocking on doors, holding rallies and driving voters to the polls, gun-control advocates far outspent their opponents. A range of philanthropists, liberal political groups, unions and activists raised a total of $3 million to defend Mr. Morse and Ms. Giron. Mr. Bloomberg personally gave $350,000.
It was not enough to help Mr. Morse overcome the conservative outrage that erupted this winter as Colorado’s Democratic-controlled statehouse passed several gun laws over near-unanimous opposition from Republicans and Second Amendment advocates.
Controversial Syria Researcher (O'Bagy) Fired Over Doctorate Claim
A young researcher whose opinions on Syria were cited by both Senator McCain and Secretary of State John Kerry in congressional testimony last week has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for allegedly faking her academic credentials.

The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University. ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately.
O’Bagy wrote in an email this Wednesday morning: “I was just fired from ISW and I’m no longer legally allowed to discuss my employment with them or affiliate it any way.”
“Elizabeth is one of the best experts on Syria and her field work inside Syria along with her extensive networks on the ground makes her one of few people that can help inform policy makers on the reality on the ground,” said Mouaz Moustafa, the executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force.

Its a bigger deal that Giron got tossed than Morse, because from the voter registration totals it clear that a pretty large chunk of Democrat registered voters flushed her. If that keeps happening, Democrats will wish they never met gun grabbers like Bloomberg...

DaveinMa-- Obummer sez 'save the little syrian children', but kill the USA babies as they exit the birth canal and throw their carcasses to the hospital floor. Obummer certainly has 'flexible' moral values.

I'm wondering if LIV is an apt acronym for most Dem voters.
These chunkheads seem to comprise two camps, between which the LIVs fall;
1. NIVs; no information voters and;
2. MIVs; mis-information voters.
The first ones don't actually know a damn thing about politics or the real world at all because they only read US magazine and watch Bravo and E! Whatever politician makes those channels gets their vote.
The second ones know quite a bit but it's all via state captured media and so is almost universally false.
I'm not sure which group is the largest, but the fact any of them have the franchise is sufficient for a MarkO "DOOM!"
I propose Federal voting rights be limited to those individuals who can demonstrate their status as net taxpayers.
This would set up the Federal government as a corporation responsive only to its owners (stockholders) who have made the investment necessary to fund it and denying voting rights to the consumers of federal services, just as consumers have no corporate voting rights.
States of course would be free to experiment however they pleased.

GMax, I grew up in Pueblo and the fact that Giron lost means she didn't even turn out the dead Democrat vote. I also heard lots of reports of voter intimidation, but it wasn't by Republicans.

[email protected]:53 - I agree Giron results were more significant, but I can't quite articulate why.
In 2010, Giron won 22,834(59%) of 41,648 total votes. The GOP candidate received 18,814 (45%) of the votes.
Yesterday, 19,355 (56%) of 34,566 people voted YES (to recall) -- that is more than the total who voted GOP in a regular election.
Fully 83% of the regular election voters showed up to vote in this special Recall election. That seems huge to me.

It happens to be the fortieth anniversary of one of the greatest blows to dictatorship ever. Celebrate with a gift to your favorite Marxist...and then sit back and watch the steam come out of his ears.
'The 1970 accession of Salvador Allende to the presidency of Chile is a good test case of what happens when a country turns its economy over to the government. Painful Birth provides us with a thought-provoking account of this dramatic plunge into socialism, and also of the country’s subsequent escape from it. Dr. Edwards’ concise, readable study provides an excellent background for today’s debates about the desirable scope of government.'

Now I think of Nate Silver as a very partisan democrat statistican, who spins polls all the time for Democrats and he works for the NYT. But apparently there are a few bridges too far for even him.
Background is the PPP(D), another hyper partisan Democrat pollster had a poll that showed Giron in trouble. So he buried it. That should tell you all you need to know about Public Policy Polling but good for Silver for calling this spade a spade...
VERY bad and unscientific practice for @ppppolls to suppress a polling result they didn't believe/didn't like. http://t.co/tOp5PhUbnf

I spent the first half of the day working for the United Way's Day of Caring (96 degrees) weeding gardens and rebuilding a fence at Rotary park.
Some of you may remember that 3 or 4 years ago a fellow Rotarian told me the tea party is racist - while knowing I had started our local tea party. He apologized about a year later, but even then it took me a while to get over it.
And any rate while we were working, he told me that he was starting to like Rand Paul. He said he had no idea what was wrong with him, but Paul was starting to make sense to him. I told him, who could blame him, given how much he's been lied to by Obama. He agreed.
I told him that Rand Paul was a constitutionalist and a tea partier. He said he knew that.
What a great day.

Debby Ding Dong Wasserman Shultz says that these results are a clear indicator of "voter suppression".
Jeez I just thought that a bunch of voters turned out to "suppress" these two fools and throw them out of office.
But then Debby's mileage does vary.

As long as Melinda keeps identifying info to a minimum, then there will always be plausible deniability as to who authored a comment. (One of the many reasons that this software sucks is that it does not guarantee the identity of any commenter anyway)
Simplest way is for some trusted person that Melinda exchanges emails with to post for Melinda. If you are that person, use your own name for your posts, and choose a different name for Melinda's posts.Posted by: 666_cathyf_says_typepad_sucks_333 | September 11, 2013 at 03:01 PM
It’s one thing for a deliberately polarizing legislator like Morse to lose a close race in a swing district. It’s quite another for Giron to lose by 12 points in a district that is 47% Democratic and 23% Republican. One reason is that in blue collar districts like Pueblo, there are plenty of Democrats who cling to their Second Amendment rights. As the Denver Post noted, 20% of the voters who signed the Giron recall petitions were Democrats.”

Just saw this at Ace. Don't believe I have heard it before.
"As a little window into how Washington DC works, this Daily Caller story notes that the United States government pays the "task force" which employs Ms. O'Bagy to... lobby the United States government."
