Per this NY Times account, John Kerry's suggestion that Syria could spare tha world a lot of aggro by unilaterally turning over its chemical weapons (a proposal Kerry promptly and premptively poo-poohed as improbable) has picked up Russian support:
[Russian foreign minister] Lavrov appeared at a previously unscheduled briefing only hours after Mr. Kerry made his statement in London, seizing on it as a possible compromise.
“We don’t know whether Syria will agree with this, but if the establishment of international control over chemical weapons in the country will prevent attacks, then we will immediately begin work with Damascus,” Mr. Lavrov said at the Foreign Ministry. “And we call on the Syrian leadership to not only agree to setting the chemical weapons storage sites under international control, but also to their subsequent destruction.”
Mr. Moallem said later in a statement that his government welcomed the Russian proposal, Russia’s Interfax News Agency reported, in what appeared to be the first acknowledgment by the Syrian government that it even possesses chemical weapons. The Syrian government historically has neither confirmed nor denied possessing such weapons.
I don't think Kerry is outsmarting anyone (what's unbelievably small is his common sense), so this might just be an alternative way for Syria to run out the clock as they haggle over terms.
On the other hand, Russia might be looking for a face-saving way to bring Syria a bit closer to international norms, or at least to gracefully distance themselves from them.
And it certainly gives Obama a face-saving excuse to do nothing for a few weeks. Win-win-win!
NOBODY'S FOOL: The Times is all over the four-corner ploy:
Obama administration officials have discussed the idea of presenting Mr. Assad with an ultimatum. But officials are wary of giving the Syrian leader an opportunity to play for time, and carrying out inspections to make sure the Syrian government has not retained hidden stocks of poison gas as fighting rages appeared to be a near impossibility.
LIVE IMPROV WITH J KERRY: From CNN:
But as Russia and Syria later suggested that it could be done, the State Department later sought to clarify Kerry's comment as a "rhetorical argument."
One U.S. official called Kerry's remarks a "major goof," adding that America's top diplomat "clearly went off script."
"There is no one in the administration who is taking this Syria proposal seriously," the official said.
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE! Team Obama will study the Russian proposal, Harry Reid will delay the Senate vote, and the diplomats win. Stephen Hayes explains that Team Obama will insist that it was Obama's forceful resolve that led to this happy talkfest. Uh huh - the threat of an "unbelievably small" attack focused Syrian minds.
Groan. Will it be days, weeks or months before Obama and his press lackeys are telling the world that only Obama's calm patience and steely resolve held off the warmongering Republicans? I think "days".
Accidental genius. LOL Let bgates write the satire but I want TM doing the headlines.
NK,
You asked about National. I have never seen it in such beautiful condition. The weather was as spectacular as the course and play. The camera they had at 17 was on a telescopic lift and it was focused on the bay for those color shots.
The limited attendance too 5K only. No ropes to speak of, everyone just walked along with the contestants. We started on 1 watching the first few tee times then walked dow to 1 green and watched the next few try to drive it. Most either drove it or in the green-side bunkers. No layups on 1 or 2 since they are both drivable. Then we went up to The Alps (No. 3 and watched them play their second shots in and watch the leaving group hit their tee shots into No. 4 - The Redan. Very festive and knowledgeable crowd. I call it the "country club" set.
US team was just plain dominant on Sunday and only needed 4 points but took 7.
Here is the crowd around The Redan shot from The Alps.

Maybe the new White House strategy is to lose so much U.S. credibility through Obama and Kerry sounding like morons that Congress has no choice but to support bombing in order to get some of it back. Proposed White House sales pitch: “Vote yes and we’ll shut up.”
Dumb and Dumber indeed.

The reason why Putin is mopping the floor with Obummer is largely due to the fact that Assad got nothing but international condemnation for the gas. The Jihadis were not impressed, "they love death more than we love life", so giving up stockpiles does not cost him immediately, plus He'll undoubtable keep the prerequisite chems and production equipment so he can ramp back up if it's needed, plus he has Putin's handshake that Russia will do what's needed to snuff out the Jihadis. Assad has ridden Putin's coattails to a great result. The ChiComs, Mullahs, KSA Israelis and AQ have all watched it happen. Obummer has made the USA a mark.

Breitbart: "In what looks like an off-the-cuff blunder, Secretary of State John Kerry might have accidentally given Russian President Vladmir Putin the opportunity to muddy the international diplomatic waters and buy his friends in Syria some time.
Syria is already warming to the idea.
This complication could be a major blow to all of the Obama administration's prepared plans to punish Assad for using the weapons and to change the balance of power in the ongoing Syrian civil war. Public opposition to Obama's war is already surging. Weeks or months from now, after the torturous international diplomatic process that no one believes would end with Assad giving up the chemical weapons that keep him in power winds down, it is doubtful Congress or the American public would be ready to stomach a renewed push for war.
But now that Putin has suggested Syria say "yes" to an offer Kerry was sure no one would accept, the Associated Press is reporting that the State Department will take a "hard look" at Russia's proposal.
Just like Obama's unscripted "red line" comment that started this debacle, it looks as though another off-teleprompter administration blunder has shoved America's foreign policy into a corner. "

On the plus side, this keeps the Syrian crisis on the front burner simmering while the negotiations go one, and suck all the oxygen out of DC for any other legislative mischief.

officials are wary of giving the Syrian leader an opportunity to play for time
which is why the instant chemical weapons were used last year, Obama leapt into action in an off-the-cuff statement this past July which might kind of lead to a vote in Congress this month or later in the fall, after which there could be military action which, in turn, will indisputably not remove either the Syrian leader or the chemical weapons in the country.
and carrying out inspections to make sure the Syrian government has not retained hidden stocks of poison gas as fighting rages appeared to be a near impossibility
Obviously. "Hey, look at me, everybody! I carry a flip phone and I think inspections can eliminate hidden stores of WMDs, because I'm living in 2002!"

So, let me get this straight. Sun Tzu Obama doesn't like international inspections because Bashir could hide his chems. But Sun Tzu Obama has already acknowledged that the contemplated strikes won't take out the chems (especially since Bashir has had time to do a better job of hiding them than he has done). If the Teleprompter were running Syria policy, there would be more coherence.
Obama better hope the Russkies don't also push for international inspections of chems held by the "rebels" (or an investigation into how chems fell into the hands of the rebels).

I just heard the 911 tape - Shellie Zimmerman seems like a drama queen. She told the cops that George was trying to slam the garage door on her, when the dispatcher asked her if GZ was in the house she said no, he is in his truck. So not sure how that works.
She also said he punched her dad in the nose, and Dad has a "mark on his face", then she said he "acosted" her dad. Then he took her cell phone and smashed it and then "cut it with a pocket knife"? How does that work?
And she also says GZ has a "bodyguard" that the police were telling to get out of the way. He didn't witness the whole thing?
She flat out said she was scared George was going to shoot them, which I think is bullshit. Then at the end of the audio they start saying something about GZ having a woman with him?
Something smells in Florida again.

White House insists it may strike Syria without congressional approval

Now, on a strictly legal basis, under the constitution, I think they are correct. But impeachment is (as we were told over and over again with Clinton) a political, not a legal act. One simple charge of "waging acts of war against the will of the American people and the United States Congress" would suffice. The Senate might not convict, but I doubt the voting public would really hold it against the House for bringing the charges in these circumstances.

GZ is nt in detention and no charges will be filed. Again the left beclowns itself.
Per zero hedge now that syria has agreed to allow the russians to remove the chemical weapons Kerry says neener neener he didn't mean that and a Catholic nun says the video of the gassing is a fraud.

Good thing Zimmerman's FIL wasn't wearing a hoodie, otherwise a red nose could have been a gut shot.

jimmyk--right you are the race baiters and the kennedys are all fakes working together--Caroline just played arole in their make believe tribute to MLK Jr for example.
BTW I expect the NY Post is going to leak damaging bits day by day for as long as it can.

He said, “My understanding is that she never saw his firearm and that is what she is now telling us. So George Zimmerman is free to go and will not be arrested at this time.
I'm sure the DemSM will issue updates to the earlier story (that he was "brandishing a gun")
immediatelysoononce the false story has had sufficient time to become accepted as truth.Posted by: jimmyk | September 09, 2013 at 05:29 PM
[email protected]:26 right you are. BTW-- I admit a crass sense of anticipation to read what RFKJr told his diary about Andy Cuomo.

President Barack Obama's approval rating on foreign policy has hit the lowest mark of his presidency, a new CNN/ORC International poll shows. Only three in 10 approve of how Obama is handling the crisis in Syria, the poll indicates, and 63% disapprove.

I have zero interest in Zimmerman now. We won; it's over.

I though it was pretty well written for a Kennedy family member.
Thanks.

White House insists it may strike Syria without congressional approval
Don't forget October is just a month away, so they're near the point when they have to switch from explaining how Congress has to authorize a narrow pointless use of the military in order to preserve our nation's credibility, to explaining how Congress has to authorize expanded pointless spending in order to preserve our nation's credit rating.

Knowing going in that the Senate would not convict, I wonder whether the House would expend the time and energy needed to impeach.
But suppose he launches his strike without authorization, and a week later hundreds die from a release of Sarin gas in the NY subway system?

RFK diary-- Meh, not much there, we'll see what the NYP is holding back for later.

#37 Chelsea X - Am I a man of the people or what? Taking one for the team tonite. Her dad is one of my heroes but she on the other hand is more like that cow of a mother.
She was all over me like white on rice at the Americans for Chavez dinner. She jumped me the first time in the cloakroom and I was able to fend her off but when we sat down to dinner that was it. Thank Gaia the ball n chain was at another table.

He's still a weasel with oak leaf cluster, consider hoe he treated W, or even the guy
that tried to spring from jail, not to mention his fronting for Chavez, and what he did with the vaccine travesty, dial it up 300 degrees.

My thirst for info that exposes the Kennedys for what they are is unquenchable.
Are any excerpts published other than that one NYPost article?
