Jack is Back!

CH,

Regarding Grayson: He took advantage of the redistricting. The 9th used to be very strong R district over on the west coast of FL. Now its basically Osceola County which is close to 50% hispanic and most of those are Puerto Rican. They go D. Thats about it.

Probably pretty safe unless you can get a strong Puerto Rican R to run against him.

Porchlight

Porch-- Obummer will never ever agree to delay the MediCaid and subsidy payments.

Exactly. And he isn't going to agree to Republican-backed legislation to delay the individual mandate either.

So the bill is entirely tactical; I'm fine with that. It doesn't remove one gram of ownership of the disaster from the millstone around Obama's neck. It merely reminds the public of the location of the millstone.

Employer insurance already knows about spouse's coverage. Otherwise person covered under two employers with 80-20 could get 160% of bills covered.

rse, I have finished. "Credentialed to Destroy" is a fine book, well written and worth reading.

It is a heavy slog through the first six chapters but necessary to lay the foundations to understand chapters seven and eight.

A casual reader could read the last two chapters to get the crux and then return to the previous chapters to master the jargon and the evidence.

I will order more for my Board of Education.

More importantly, I will probably challenge both educators and politicians to bring themselves up to speed if they plan on funding the hangman's noose for my children.

Exactly, Mark; this was always a problem Romney had which sending people out to shill for him was never going to ameliorate, namely the fear that he would replace 404Care with RomneyCare which, when he was out of office, could be perverted into redistribution scheme the commiecrats wanted. Just got in from running errands and see Gov.Lepage made it to memeorandum.Mike Tipping is a member of Maine People's Alliance. The well meaning do-gooders go door to door in the summer and proselytize liberal ideas. Hubby has engaged with these do-gooders often, especially when we lived in northern Maine. I don't think he actually made one of them cry. Ha. Lepage was kicked out to the curb by his abusive father when he was 11 years old. He has no use for an able bodied person sitting on his butt, collecting benefits. He speaks his mind and if the moonbats don't like it,tough.

Frau Sarkasmus

MarkO - shhhhh! only when no one is looking.

I think Romney could well have attacked Obama's (C)ACA by pointing out often and loudly what he had proposed to MA and what the Democrats had done to it before it was approved and especially what happened afterwards. Requirements were chucked and the neo-commies had their way with it. Instead, he treated the disastrous outcome as his.

Biggest problem?: Romney could not tell winning political lies.

Danube on iPad

I agree lwith Tammy B: on this one, the media is powerless to control the narrative.

As I recall, when O delayed the employer mandate, his flunkies went through the motions of citing some sort of authority for him to do it. I think it was pretty weak, but there was no one with any incentive to sue to enforce the law. This time, I think the insurers would have that incentive - they need those young-and-healthies signing up on a pace sufficient to fund the old-and-sickies.

Just think: in the next three months we may bear witness to one of the greatest political pratfalls in American history.

Rubio should shut up. The last thing the GOP needs to do is to become a partner in this horror. Let the Dems try to "fix" it, and make the pay a steep price for it.

MarkO

"Biggest problem?: Romney could not tell winning political lies."

Enough boy scouts. No wonder we're pining for Nixon.

MarkO

"Let the Dems try to "fix" it, and make the pay a steep price for it."

I'm for not fixing it. McCain? McConnell? Cruz? What price is steep enough? Anything but repeal is DOOM and we all know that.

One of my errands was at the town office,to pay property taxes and drop off a donation for a family in town who lost everything in a house fore yesterday. The town clerk was on the phone with the Red Cross when I went in.I listened to her side of the conversation, hey the office is small. She told the Red Cross that the school(three children in the family) had been overwhelmed with donations. She advised the Red Cross to ask for cash or gift cards, because there is no storage for the clothing, blankets and furniture being donated. After the call we chatted and she's been taking calls all day. I thought,it didn't take a community organizer to rally the people in town around this family.I believe this happens all over the country, neighbor helping neighbor. That is why we have to be optimistic.

Rubio should shut up. The last thing the GOP needs to do is to become a partner in this horror. Let the Dems try to "fix" it, and make the pay a steep price for it.

I agree, but I don't think that's what this bill will do.

The purpose of this bill is to remind people that the Republicans wanted to save people from the disaster by any means necessary. They tried repeal - impossible at this time; defund - turned out to be impossible; lastly delay. Senate/WH rejected delay, which forced the shutdown.

Now we try again for delay once more before Obama, as is increasingly looking likely, will have to delay it himself and look like an incompetent fool who is just playing political games to save his butt.

The bill will fail, but its success is not necessary and is not the goal.

Lastly, it inoculates the Repubs from what would be the eventual Dem line of attack: "we want to delay the mandate because we really care about all of you unlike those mean Republicans."

Frau Sarkasmus

What's so terrible that Scott Walker did not graduate from a college? That means he did not cheat or have someone else take tests for him. He has no records "lost" (Obama) or locked up (Adlai Stevenson).

Just read and bookmarked this link:

Matt Walsh: The Definitive Guide To How Obamacare Is Destroying American Lives

Walsh solicited input from readers as to how Obamacare was affecting them, and compiled a list from the hundreds of responses he received.

Great to have handy when someone tells you that Obamacare is going great so far and not hurting anyone.

I would only quibble with his title: it is not yet definitive. Sadly, the definitive guide cannot be compiled until (God forbid) we see the legislation in full operative action. Then this list is going to look like a church picnic in comparison.

SCOTT WALKER IS MY FIRST CHOICE FOR THE MINUTE. I THINK THE COUNTRY'S DYING FOR SOMEONE WITHOUT AN IVY LEAGUE COLLEGE DEGREE AT THIS POINT. (Sorry about the caps..sticky key.)

CH, who's the "crotch ferret"? I love that expression/

Landru

This is all a big joke. The tax credits are refundable credits, just like the EIC. This means a family of 4 in CT making about 100k a year who gets insurance on the subsidized exchange will not be paying any federal income tax at all after both the regular child credits and the insurance tax credits are factored in. And yet people claim this won't explode the deficit? I repeat: A family of 4 making 100k a year will not pay any federal income tax at all.

Captain Hate on the iPhone

I'm 100% on board with DoT's strategy of having Rubio STFU on fixing 404Care.

NK, to your BLS of 20 Million Un/Under employed and your BLS of 5 Million "disabled", I add the BLS of 90 Million >16 year old who simply are not even looking for a job.

Taken altogether and taking out the double counts, less than half the population is carrying the other half.

Why is it that that round split keeps popping up any time you look at macro numbers?

Landru

Ignatz:
"--The one thing I agree with Cruz about and disagree with DoT, is once the subsidies start it's basically GAME OVER. Once that family of 4 making 100K is dumped into an exchange by their employers (which may be a completely rational economic act by small and medium businesses) they will NEVER vote to give up their subsidy-- that's the lesson of history.--"

Exactly. I just posted a comment on this. What is really changing here with the exchanges? The prices offered are about the same as you can get now on the ind market. The difference with that family of 4 in CT is that they will now be paying NO federal income taxes at all after the tax credits. None. 100k a year and no income taxes. It's unreal.

Reality Check

Well then, Captain Hate, you're 100% on board with grasping at thin air, 'cause Danube doesn't have a strategy and Marco Rubio simply advised select Democrats in his tactful, congenial, good ol' Southern boy way that they've dug themselves into such a deep hole already that they ought to stop digging.

Threadkiller

We all know there is one thing regarding Obama that isn't a 9 layer digital phony.

NK(tryin'2.0)

Yes that is the firm of Ignatz, Landru and NK who came to that same conclusion. The subsidies are the problem with DoT's 'let it burn' approach. Once those subsidies start, revoking them will be as bad as Medicare/Soc Sec reform, that's the lesson of history. The other nasty effect of the subsidies is that they corode the effect of income taxes-- they take millions of young families i.e. 'persuadable' voters out of the income tax liability--this is important for Dems, because the fewer people paying income taxes, the easier it is to raise taxes for the rest of us. Dems lost national power for 30 years because of 'bracket creep' in the late 70s. This is a way to reduce their risk of pushing for tax hikes.

Porchlight

Porch, the problem is that proposing or even passing Rep bills in one house have zero impact on the public perception.

Okay, but if that's the case, what's the harm?

I would really like to see it put to a vote in the Senate. Seems like that's more likely now than it was a couple of weeks ago.

Allahpundit, fwiw:

Delay the mandate for months and you’re all but guaranteeing that healthy uninsured people won’t sign up soon, which means insurers won’t have the new revenue they were banking on to cover sick people’s preexisting conditions. Voila — you’ve created the conditions for an industry death spiral. Democrats know it too, just like they also know that they’re not getting anything like single-payer through Congress so long as there’s a Republican majority in the House. So they have no choice but to oppose Rubio’s bill and defeat it in the Senate, even though doing so will make for terrible politics.

There are lots and lots and lots of things the public doesn’t understand about ObamaCare, but one thing everyone understands is that it’s unfair to punish people for not doing something the government’s made it all but impossible for them to do. Rubio’s bill essentially forces Democrats to argue that it is fair somehow in the name of keeping the mandate in effect. Would they rather do that or would they rather delay the entire law to make sure the death spiral doesn’t happen?

Old Lurker

However, if the 34 states get an injunction to stop the feds paying out subsidies in their states, and making ACA moot in those states. Watch companies start running away from the 16 (or 20 in O's mind) O'care states and moving operations to one of the 34.
