The latest Gallup poll shows 58% favor marijuana legalization, suggestring it is getting safe for Obama to evolve on that issue as well.
Oh, I say that, but the most likely path is the one we are on - states quasi-legalize marijuana and the Feds ignore it. Eventually, if we really want to tax and regulate marijuana some formal movement at the Federal level will probably be necessary, if only to provide clarity at the state level.
now you are talking about something Obama can handle--choom

OK. Greenspan's argument seems to be:
The GSEs--Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--purchased and held lots of subprime mortgages--raw, securitized, and then derivativized.
Bank equity cushions were too low.
????
Financial crisis and depression!
This seems to me to be not the thinking of the Gnomes of Zurich, but rather the Gnomes of South Park. Let's run through the chain of causation here:
Countrywide finds some sub-prime borrowers and lends to them.
Countrywide securitizes and derivativizes its loans and sells them on the open market.
Fannie Mae comes along and buys them and holds them in its portfolio.
Because Fannie Mae has now taken this subprime mortgage risk off of the private sector's books, spreads on subprime vis-a-vis conforming drop.
Because spreads drop subprime becomes worth more.
Countrywide thus sees additional profit opportunities from making more subprime loans.
It makes them, and so there are more subprime loans and more risk in the market.
So when the crash comes in 2008, banks' inadequate equity cushions cannot handle the risk.
That is the argument, right?
But… But… But… Supply curves slope up, and demand curves slope down.
Here is the market for subprime relative to conforming before Fannie Mae entered the market:"

Some people's psychs need troping and for those that do the meds are better than the alternative.
And there are a great many areas where curatives do not exist and won't for some time, if ever. In those cases masking pain or slowing disease are very great goods, not poisons.

Henry Waxman says that the blame for the failure of the Obamacare rollout is due to:
1) Obama
2) Sibelius
3) The Private Sector
Waxman Claims Private Sector Responsible for Obamacare Glitches
KIRSTEN WELKER: Congressman, just very quickly, yes or no, should Secretary Sebelius keep her job?
HENRY WAXMAN: Absolutely. There’s no reason for her not to continue on as secretary. She’s done a terrific job. I have a great deal of confidence in her. She doesn’t know about all technicalities. That was contracted out to the private sector, the private sector with all the money they got couldn’t get it. If anybody’s head should roll, it should be the contractors who didn’t live up to their contractual responsibilities.
Waxman failed to mention that HHS selected CGI Federal to produce healthcare.gov and is fully responsible for ensuring the competency of their contractors.

sbw-
Your link took me back to a previous thread. I will look at it but standards are not self executing. You have what is mandated by accreditors or a principal or the curricula or the online digital programs that are to "teach" such relationships.
Then if someone says "what about phonics?" you have the standard to quote even if it lacks the capability to get teachers to rebel against the system that worries that phonetic reading ignites individualism and an independent logical mind.
What I have explained will not hit everywhere at the same time but it is what undergirds what is going on and what is sought and why. My hope is that by explaining it I can give both parents and teachers and taxpayers some leverage to say "Is this really your intention?"
Or "Do you really think an ed degree, especially after what I have explained, is a credential that deserves deference while it plans societies and economies?"

Frau I have not, but my guess is that the Pebble Mine project is dead as a doornail. What with the Media, the Lawsuits, Hollywood, Senator Cantwell from Washington State, The Obama Administration, and the EPA already stepping in to say that they don't believe the Project is safe before any project plans have even been submitted, I think there is almost zero chance of the Project going through. Just last month one of the Big Companies pushing for the Project bailed out:
Just three weeks after mining giant Anglo American abruptly announced it was pulling out of the proposed Pebble gold and copper mine, the Pebble Partnership said it is laying off numerous staff members and suspending contracts.
Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd., a Canadian exploration firm that is seeking to develop Pebble as its first project, will be left as the sole company in the Pebble Partnership, spokesman Mike Heatwole said Monday.
Of Pebble's 70 or so direct employees, an untold number were let go last week...
The Left's continual campaign to make Alaska a terribly expensive and unfriendly environment for any business wishing to engage in new drilling or mining projects has been very successful.

Unsurprisingly, Obama exhibits all the defense mechanisms common to the narcissistic personality disorder in his political life: denial, devaluation, projection and rationalization.
Leading from behind is essential for the unstable person who is currently President. He cannot accept criticism or blame. It shames him.
"Because of a propensity to internalize failure, the narcissist's emotional response to failure is to feel shame, as opposed to guilt felt by people without the disorder. So in order to avoid shame, which the narcissist feels must be avoided at all costs, he externalizes blame for negative events."
We are being governed by a very sick man.

Jim Geraghty at NRO with a very interesting and revealing story demonstrating almost all of the supposed new Barrycare enrollees on fed and state exchanges are not new people buying private insurance but new people being enrolled in expanded Medicaid; IOW a vast new burden on the system with no commensurate premiums.

sbw-I adore the language in that attached "appendix" to your link but as you now know it contravenes the entire philosophy of reading if you want to avoid producing what Dewey called a Sharpy.
I know CK and Hirsch believe that is what the standards are to do. I have had an ongoing discussion with them for several years that the implementing docs will not bring this to the classroom. It has always been my belief that keeping them on board was important for PR purposes. CK has been interspersed into the Expeditionary Learning project oriented curriculum which I think is a bad fit. I think EL prevails.
This is in many ways an overwhelming story for me to have walked into. For everything I cited and what I told I held plenty in reserve. As I have said I told what I thought was necessary but not everything I know on any of those topics.
Many people will come at this where one or two aspects of the story interest them most. They will get what they need and can later pick up the rest as it interests them. My goal was that never again from any direction would anyone wonder why.
And to have some hope of stopping the attached toxic political and economic visions of the future.
