I think that what we are seeing right now will make single-payer a tougher sell. In any event it won't come about as long as the GOP holds the house.

The whole spectacle is quite fascinating.

AliceH

I give up.

I'm off to kill box elder bugs with ecologically suspect Delta Dust. Then I'll curl up on the couch in the only warm room of the house to read Kevin Williamson's "The End Is Near And It's Going To Be Awesome"

Dave (in MA)

Neo, missed it by this much. If only they'd used their powers for Niceness instead of Evil.

Stephanie

Sure it will.. The democrats will suggest single payer as a stop gap measure with promises that that will give the private market place a chance to recalibrate to pick up those insurers they lost and the republicans will go for it.

Another pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today scheme like amnesty and fences...

Which of the attorneys here are volunteering to get Michael Skakel the justice he deserves?

I usually tell students that if they want an exam regraded, they should know it might come back with a lower grade. It would be nice if that could happen with Skakel. New trial? Sure, but this time we'll go for the death penalty. Or, since CT abolished the death penalty, life without parole.

--I think that what we are seeing right now will make single-payer a tougher sell.--

I agree with that too.
Commie tactics work when they use some temporary crisis from a weakness in free markets to argue for permanent state power.

I think it was a miscalculation to think that instead, this time, they would create the crisis by first eliminate what passed for a free market and then still think they could place the blame for the crisis on freedom when they're standing there with the ax in their hand and the cherry tree on the ground.

The Left started out trying to get single payer in 2009, when the Dems had a super majority, but they couldn't even get enough of their own congress critters on board to pass it. If the GOP votes for it now they really will be dead, and as stupid as they are, I don't think they're so stupid that they don't realize that.

The Dodgers hammered Wainwright in LA... helped them win the round and get to the WS? Well, no. One game is less than 4.

I was kind of worried that would happen. I hope Hannity can find her a new job.

Needless to say this just reveals the malignancy of Ear Leader and the toadies he surrounds himself with, but Hannity should try to do something to help her out since the firing stems from talking to that pea brain.

Well unfortunately NK no one is impeaching. There have been grounds to do so for 4 years. I can't imagine what would motivate the house to do that. And the senate surely won't go along. So apparently that's not what impeachment is for.

Miss Marple

Captain Hate, I agree Hannity the Pea brain is obligated to get her anothr job. We should not treat people like cannon fodder, so I expect to hear from him post haste, even if he just cuts her a check for 3 year's worth of work, which he could well afford to do.

And speaking of pea brains, Rush Limbaugh entertained a caller who suggested that all of Limbaugh's listeners should log onto the Obamacare web site or call the phone number, crashing the system.

Limbaugh (or his call screener) were idiots for putting that on the radio and Limbaugh should have put the cabash on it instead of acting all cutesy and saying, "Oh, I would NEVER suggest such a thing."

I bet by 6PM the dems will be blaming the problems on GOP sabotage, using that call as evidence.

I have often said that some of the guys who are supposed to be our allies are often acting in a counter-productive manner. This is a perfect example.

jimmyk

I hope Hannity can find her a new job.

He's giving her a year's salary, and I suspect in Utah there will be some people who won't hold it against her. Of course if the circumstances were different, like Shirley Sherrod, for example, she'd be a folk hero on the left.

Old Lurker

MM, I give you less than one for two on those characterizations.

And Hannity has sent her a year's salary tax free and is finding her a new job. He did not need any "he shoulds" to get there, so calm down.

Jack is Back!

The lady that Hannity talked to is in Panama City, Florida. She is looking for jobs in food service. Trained bartender. He has special website page at www.jobs.hannity.com. FWIW

jimmyk

So Hillary says the future "doesn't include yelling," and Barry says it "must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." Pretty soon the only speech that will be allowed is "Allahu Akhbar" (said without yelling, of course).

Jack is Back!

That may not be correct URL.

Miss Marple

Old Lurker, excellent and the only question I have is why Hannity didn't realize it would cost her her job.

Call centers are monitored and he broadcast it on TV, so it would be fairly easy for them to track down who the operator was.

Well, I hope she finds a job right away and banks the money Hannity sent her, which was good of him. Maybe next time they will figure out a way to hide the operator's identity.

rse

She should head over to Rosemary.

That story would play well for customers at the new copper bar at the new Inn.

Old Lurker

:-) MM. He's the one you were almost right about, pea size-wise. The other one is smarter than you give him credit for if you can get past the showmanship and packaging. And his political instincts are the best in the biz.

Both of them are patriots through and through.

More on Erling Davis.

NK(tryin'2.0)

jimmyK-- Hillary saying the future doesn't include yelling is her fat ass'd fascist way of saying Shut Up.

Some Guy

OK, I don't get it. Why does Hannity "owe" her anything?

1. He didn't fire her
2. She is (was) a government employee or subcontractor, and broadcasting anything she says is a public service and consistent with one of those pesky amendment thingys.

Aren't the real questions and therefore who "owes" her, who fired her? On what grounds?

NK(tryin'2.0)

I know it's Politico, but this has McConnell and Boehner quotes, sounds accurate to me: http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=8CBC5B5D-7470-4CC8-AD3C-868C42C76803

Porchlight

The lady that Hannity talked to is in Panama City, Florida.

Ah, I think I get it now. He's made multiple calls over the last few days. The most recent one was yesterday. I did hear him talking to a woman in Utah, but that was on Monday or Tuesday, I think.

jimmyk

It's true, SG, that the focus of public ire should be on the the fascists who fired her and not on Hannity. Employees don't generally have free speech regarding their jobs, and they are usually employed at will, but this should be a black mark for the administration.

Porchlight

I guess he doesn't technically owe her anything, Some Guy, but it's a nice thing to do to help her out. She could have stuck to her script to protect herself (although who knows if that would have succeeded), but she didn't, and I'm glad she didn't, so I'm also glad he's helping her get re-hired.

She's a victim of this POS law too, because apparently telling the truth about it gets you fired.

Some Guy

Employees don't generally have free speech regarding their jobs, and they are usually employed at will

Can employees be compelled to lie?

Oh how I wish government employment was at will. To dream!

So did anyone else know the squid's new motto was "Progress is everyone's business."

Not a play on words or anything. Just because it was sponsoring the TED talk by someone who thought mayors should be the go to political level. Barber is where I first learned about Harry Boyte and the sense of democracy Ayers had in mind.

Some Guy

Porchlight, totally agree that it's the nice and right thing to do.

Captain Hate on the iPhone

He owes her nothing per se but his putting her on the radio, which she agreed to, certainly was the underlying reason for her being out of work. The clowns who fired her are the villains here but kudos to Hannity for taking the high road.

Porchlight

And Hannity has sent her a year's salary tax free

Hell no, it won't be tax free. The IRS will make sure of that.

Jack is Back!

What do want to bet she was never told to not speak to reporters or media but only to talk to legitimate (sic) inquiries? In Florida, I believe you can be fired without cause or warning. No room for Gloria Allred here, thank God.

Ignatz

Thanks for the link to this bit of comedy gold at Poltico, NK:

Republicans should drop this fruitless fight and instead focus on keeping overall government spending levels low.

Where's Laff Trac when we need him?

NK(tryin'2.0)

Well it's all relative Ig. The Dem 'budget' for FY '14 budget based on the 'baseline' established by the last budget passed and signed FY '10 has discretionary spending at $1.055TRILLION or so, so the sequester level is almost $90B (8%) less. The other $2.6TRILLION spending is Soc Sec, MediCare, Medicaid, SNAP, farm subsidies and interest on the Debt-- that's where the real spendig is-- now if we cut that 8%, we'd be talking real money.

Sue

When he says tax free I would guess he is going to pay her taxes for her.

Thanks Sue. I should have figured that out!

Benghazi suspects not on State Department's 'Rewards for Justice' list

The State Department's "Rewards for Justice" program -- which offers multimillion-dollar payouts for tips leading to wanted terrorists -- does not include suspects in the Benghazi terror attack.

The State Department has not offered an explanation as to why those individuals are not on the list. Pressed by Fox News and The Associated Press on Thursday, spokeswoman Marie Harf suggested the important thing was that the Obama administration is resolved to find those suspects.

"This is nothing at all to do with politics. We've made crystal clear that we want to find these people and bring them to justice," Harf said. "Whether we pay a couple million dollars isn't the point -- the point is we believe it's a priority ... and whether they are on a website or not doesn't change that."

She cited "classified deliberations" on who should be included in saying she could not answer whether the suspects were even considered for the list.

maryrose

Hannity has class. This administration and Barry do not. Any disagreeing voice must be silenced ala Hillary's comment. If you recall she was the one screaming and yelling"What difference at this point does it make"? And she was yelling loudly. I guess the future and her hopes to be president aren't for her.

narciso

carlos slim's scratchpad had some interesting pieces, one Stay Puff is not that popular in New Jersey, now that he served his purpose, two, prices in the Federal exchanges, are on balance higher than those in the state.

Extraneus
The decision to include an alleged terrorist in the program is made by the State Department after consulting with the FBI, CIA, Justice Department and National Security Council staff.

The rewards run between $500,000 and $25 million -- the latter reward is for the leader of Al Qaeda in Pakistan.

As one example, tips about American Adam Gadahn, a propagandist and mouthpiece for Al Qaeda in Pakistan who is not accused of directly murdering Americans, can be worth up to $5 million.

Yet there is no reward for information leading to those who murdered Ambassador Chris Stevens, Foreign Service officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty -- which is shocking to a former State Department official who used to run the Rewards for Justice program.

"We should be using every tool in our toolkit to go after the perpetrators of the crime and the Rewards for Justice is a program that's specifically set up for this purpose," Fred Burton said. "And the fact that we haven't had a reward for better than a year now, to me just makes little sense."

maryrose

Maybe "de minimis" was too strong. Best as I can tell, Hannity would owe about 20% of the amount over $14,000, or about $2400. What a screwy system.

maryrose

EXT:
we can't find these terrorists because they will spill the beans about the gun-running scheme that Chris Stevens was trying to stop.
