Iran gives Christians 80 lashes for communion wine

Four Iranian Christians were reportedly sentenced to 80 lashes for drinking wine for communion, a shocking punishment meted out even as a new United Nations report blasted the Islamic republic for its systematic persecution of non-Muslims.

The four men were sentenced Oct. 6 after being arrested in a house church last December and charged with consuming alcohol in violation of the theocracy's strict laws, according to Christian Solidarity Worldwide. They were among several Christians punished for their faith in a nation where converting from Islam to Christianity can bring the death penalty. According to a new October UN report by Ahmed Shaheed, UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, such persecution is common, despite new President Hasan Rouhani's pledge to be a moderate.

Any individual can give any number of other individuals $13,000 tax free. Hannity is giving $13,000 to the lady and $13,000 to one of her kids so she will indeed get $26,000 tax free which is better than working a year for $25,000 taxable. Hannity could have skipped the kid step if Mrs. Hannity had matched Sean's $13,000 gift directly to the lady.

Either way she paysno tax but Sean gets no deduction.

The phrase "creating a servant's heart" is a very big phrase for college administrator, especially the Pres or Chancellor, to insist they are trying to foster in students.

I was horrified the first time I heard and it's been frequent reading since. Must be a big part of AAC&U conferences.

Yes, let's take out a 2nd mortgage or have a lifetime of debt to gain a servant's heart.

I have always thought I served people well by figuring things out. Years ago when the company I was GC of was being bought out I recognized a problem in the doc on how it would treat the typical employee if they were let go soon after the merger so I asked them to honor our severance policy for the 1st 6 months. They agreed and were later horrified to discover their legal dept had bound them to something other than their everybody gets 2 weeks and that's it.

Lots of us have done a great job serving other people by being good at what we do and hearing some administrator who has lived at taxpayer expense all their life diminish the private sector irks me. It's fundamental ignorance behind all the fancy degrees.

narciso

Well there's a particular public figure, rse, who saw her vocation in those terms,

Yea, but the one referred to by ext with the servant's heart was Sarah Palin, not exactly a holder of a fancy degree... although,

I still say that a breaking ball pitcher - curve, sinker, slider - has a big advantage in colder temperatures like tonight. Thinner air -easier to bend the ball.

Batters don't - they have to feel the bat and the shoulder and arms are cold as well as the wrists. I never could hit a curve ball in cold air - but then that was back in the 60's when it was really cold unlike now when Montreal is the new Miami Beach.

Sometimes no matter how partisan someone is, you forget how dumb they are too. So Juan says "the customer changed his order and the contractor failed to deliver. Sounds like the contractor's fault to me!"

Really. I saw it with my own eyes.

Limbaugh (or his call screener) were idiots for putting that on the radio and Limbaugh should have put the cabash on it instead of acting all cutesy and saying, "Oh, I would NEVER suggest such a thing."

I don't follow your point of view, Miss M, about why it is Limbaugh's job to discourage the caller's suggestion. If implemented, it would be a modest throw-the-tea-in-the-harbor response from our citizenry, a very small action against the administration's "fundamental transformation" of American life and values. 4. I don't like to give the dems ANY excuse other than their own incompetence and deceit. I do not want them to act like we are the cause of the site failure, nor do I want to allow them to portray themselves as victims.

This administration has nary a qualm about destroying the medical care of a nation and making our very bodies the property of the government's beneficence. If we wait for an opportunity to resist that demands secrecy and stealth, we're going to wait a long, long time. R.I.P, A(nuther) Bub.

Miss Marple

Jack is Back,

Neither of your choices. Most of the time they are great for allowing people to call in and vent. I like Hannity for his relentless optimism and Limbaugh for his speaking up for our side.

But sometimes Limbaugh has a tin ear for how things will sound to the general public, which was why I got upset about that episode today. It reminded me of when he stepped into the Sandra Fluke controversy and gave the dems an opening in the stupid "war on women."

I understand that most people don't see things the way I do. I have several relatives who are democrats or moderate Republicans, so I get the backlash from them when stuff like this happens, and I just wish he had not said that today.

Charles Cooke has pointed out how several people (dems) in Congress are already accusing the right of sabotaging the site.
I sincerely hope I am wrong and that the whole thing passes without comment.

Old Lurker

Rick, the round table discussed it tonight as if it was said at the hearing.

Miss Marple (and (A)B), about that caller, Rush goes on to say after the call ended:

Folks, serious reaction to the last caller. The last caller thought that it would be great to do Operation Chaos II and for me to tell you to go to HealthCare.gov, just slam it. Phone number, just slam it. Folks, it's not necessary. The first point to make is it isn't necessary. The thing isn't working. But that's not the primary point. There are already people on Twitter who are blaming the Tea Party for doing this anyway. There's an entire Twitter universe of people, "The Tea Party's responsible for this. They're just sabotaging. They're just flooding HealthCare.gov and the phone number."

But here's the real thing that I think is going on out there, and I mentioned this at the top of the show in the very harried opening monologue. There is, for the regime, a blessing in this website being a mess and inaccessible. And you know what it is? People can't see the prices. I'm not so sure that some of this isn't by design. Remember, this thing is designed to fail. It is designed to implode. What is it that, if it were designed to work, that Obamacare needs? It needs healthy, relatively well paid young people flooding that website and buying insurance. And the premiums for those people, they don't get a deal. They're not being subsidized. They're the people paying the freight.

(A) nuther Bub

I don't really want to argue, Miss Marple -- you're an excellent commenter and I enjoy reading your views. I understand your point but contend only that it's not Limbaugh's job to lecture a caller (yes, I know they are screened and chosen)on the wrongness of his suggestion for a very minor civil disobedience.* As Jane (one of my heroines)keeps reminding us "Get off the couch and do something!"

*if it is that. Wouldn't you think that site would have been developed to handle Rush listeners who tried to access it at the same time as many thousands of others?

Is the International anger at the Administration for bugging Merkel's phone getting much press back in the States?

I ask because it is being shown nonstop on the international channels over here. It is constantly running on the BBC, and I have seen it on CCTV, Aussie News, Channel News Asia etc. I am also really enjoying how they very specifically continue to show Jay Carney refusing to answer the question honestly about did you bug Merkel's phone? They constantly run the clip of his Clintonian answer: (We are not bugging Merkels phone and will not bug her phone in the future) and then they use that as exhibit A in showing that the Administration is lying and did indeed bug her phone. Then they get reactions of officials angry at Carney's non-responsive response.

It is a pleasure to see the International media refusing to buy Carney's line of crap and not giving up, exactly the opposite of what most of our American reporters always do. I doubt it will give our White House pool reporters a backbone, but it might, because our White House pool reporters come off looking like weak, complicit stooges in comparison, sitting there letting Carney get away with it. Hopefully they will shamed by their International betters into demanding answers from this White House.

I really do think that the International view of Obama has morphed from that 2008 Peace Prize adulation fever into now knowing that the sunuvabitch is a sneaky, stupid, and naive untrustworthy bastard.
