Danube of Thought

Wahoo!

Frau Luegen haben kurze Beine

"Lie early and often"

Neo

Do we really need a Albert Camus poseur as POTUS ?

NK(tryin'2.0)

TomM-- Thanks for reminding us there is probably still asbestos in Altgeld Gardens. I had completely forgotten the Annenberg Challenge though-- who says that FAILED? I am confident that Obummer and Ayers delivered quite a large amount of swag to cronies in Chi Town Political Mob, Inc. (Southside chapter). So from your white-privilged POV you see failure, whereas Ayers-Obummer saw great success with Annenberg$$$.

Old Lurker

YAY. Where does 1420 place the last thread, Hit?

NK(tryin'2.0)

BTW-- TomM's link to the 2007 article about Altgeld.. .the Kellman Alinskyist who hired Obummer described him as articulate and passionate... but nevers says anything about smart or effective.

MarkO

Tom, Tom. Why would we believe anything they said about this? It's just a plant to insinuate the notion that Obama gave specific and forceful directions that others failed to follow.

Believe nothing.

Trust no one over 30. (Wait. Wrong slogan, but it still sounds good.)

Captain Hate on the iPhone

So when the website was an utter failure Gaylord Focker hit the fundraising trail; and we're supposed to think he wasn't disengaged?

Porchlight
During regular staff meetings to monitor progress, he invariably turned attention to the website. If it doesn't work, Obama said, "nothing else matters." In one meeting, he told senior advisers that implementing ACA was the most important job of his presidency. "We've got to do it right," Obama said.

Dude, that is quality leadership right there.

I am surprised he didn't tell them they were going to have to give 110% in the second half.

MarkO

Porch,

Many of them would actually think they could give 110%.

NK(tryin'2.0)

"We've got to do it right," Obama said.

The man knows how to create an eyeroll moment, doesn't he?

Old Lurker

110%

That's their proposed tax rate on the Rich, right?

bgates

He's not that at all, Neo. He's a fool playing at being President by aping the behavior of the President character in Aaron Sorkin productions. A Josiah Bartlett manque. In that little Fournier excerpt you can almost see the stage directions for the Working Hard Montage:

Late night, a small office in the White House. A group of joyful, earnest, wonkish-yet-attractive (but not implausibly so) junior aides toast their victory; their laughter is cut short as the stern figure of The President appears in the doorway
PRESIDENT: Enjoy tonight - but the hard work of implementing this thing begins in the morning. And that job is ours.

A circle of bleary-eyed senior staff members set down the voluminous notes from the last agenda item in another marathon strategy session and slouch back in their chairs. Only the President, keeping all notes in his head, is still alert and focused.

PRESIDENT: OK, what about the website?
[staff groan at the thought of adding to the innumerable hours of review of every technical and policy detail of yet another major project to satisfy their technocrat supergenius boss; he cuts short the anticipated complaint]
Folks, if we don't get this right, nothing else matters.

He's done everything Michael Douglas in The American President or Martin Sheen in The West Wing did to demonstrate leadership, except to inhabit a universe whose author was primarily concerned with making the President character into a success.

centralcal

Friday is over so soon? Where did the time go?

"Regular staff meetings" I find it hard to believe Obama even attends many of those. It's probably ValJar who attends/presides over.

Captain Hate on the iPhone

Are we supposed to believe that in these numerous status update meetings that Stanley Ann's needy bastard conducted that there was no pushback on the impossibility of making the rollout date? That smells like a burning slaughterhouse from a time zone's remove.

NK(tryin'2.0)

Speaking of 'Real Men'-- this Ron Fournier is certainly not. In 5 years of Obummerism, we've had what? 6,428 examples of his abject failure and incompetence (getting re-elected? please... the Legacy Media and a couple of hundred 20something white and asian IT dweebs did all the heavy lifting for that-- as usual Obummer just showed up with a nice crease in his trousers) Yet Fournier continues with the Obumer's 'people let him down.' Oy gevalt.

centralcal

Brilliant, bgates, yet again!

Account Deleted

"Even so, the president needs to do some soul-searching."

Alas, there are no do overs with the debbil. He kept his side of the bargain and he's going to hold President 404LIAR to precise terms and conditions. BOzo's soul is going to remain with the bad hands people.

Fournier's revelation concerning the probable outcome of the Thelma and Louise launch of Obamacare is really rather pathetic. Obama demonstrated his hands on ability with Fast and Furious, Benghazi, Arab Spring and the IRS. Was Fournier on vacation or just doing a series of self-colonoscopies?

NK(tryin'2.0)

The POTUS as commanding managerial genius, played much better on SNL in '87 or so, in reference to Reagan. The gag ends with Reagan taking a phone call and barking orders to Kohl in German, after his staff had passed out from exhaustion as a result of the grueling meeting.

Some Guy

"Even so, the president needs to do some soul-searching."

Wouldn't that be like OJ 'searching for the real killer'?

centralcal

O/T (par for the course, for me).

Last night watching Megyn on FNC, I was stunned at how awful Judge Napolitano looks. It was really hard to look at him. He used to be quite a bit stockier and now - oh my.

Has he been on some weight loss program, or battling an illness, or something? Anybody know?

Old Lurker

I have this dream where Rick collaborates with JK Rowling on her next book so that her characters might have more "color". What a team that would be.

clarice

And who told Fournier even this bit of likely drivel? The WH honor guard--they obviously think this establishes O's managerial skills.

Jeff Dobbs

OL:
YAY. Where does 1420 place the last thread, Hit?

Still fourth place. Several dozen short of third.

NK(tryin'2.0)

Clarice-- it is risible that the Obummer flaks thought those BS Obummer management stories would actually make Obummer look 'good'. Most people spend more time doing shopping lists and walking their dogs than Obummer claims to have done persoanally implementing ObummerCare.

Jeff Dobbs

bgates:
He's a fool playing at being President by aping the behavior of the President character in Aaron Sorkin productions. A Josiah Bartlett manque. In that little Fournier excerpt you can almost see the stage directions for the Working Hard Montage:

Wait until the bedroom scene. Don't worry, it's not that.

[Barack and Michelle] sitting on a sofa in the WH residence, her in a designer dress with her Jimmy Choos kicked off in the corner, him with his WH brewed honey ale, reading the 10 letters for the day and saying, 'Michelle, it just isn't right, what people are going through.' 'Why, what do you mean Barack?' 'We have to fix it. I am tired, but I can't rest until this is fixed!'

Fournier today:

"What Obama told supporters Monday is what he should have told the public all along. 'So we wrote into the Affordable Care Act, you're grandfathered in on that plan. But if the insurance company changes it, then what we're saying is they've got to change it to a higher standard. They've got to make it better, they've got to improve the quality of the plan they are selling,' Obama said at an Organizing for Action event. 'That's part of the promise that we made too. That's why we went out of our way to make sure that the law allowed for grandfathering.'

"'If we had allowed these old plans to be downgraded, or sold to new enrollees once the law had already passed, then we would have broken an even more important promise -- making sure Americans gain access to health care that doesn't leave them one illness away from financial ruin,' Obama said Monday. 'The bottom line is that we are making the insurance market better for everybody and that's the right thing to do.'

"Watch the video of Obama reinventing history with the 'what-we-said-was' construction. Notice how he is looking at notes. Remarkably, this was not an off-the-cuff remark; it was written, reviewed and approved by senior White House officials, then recited by the president. An orchestrated deceit."

He's not just lying about what he said. He's lying about policies being un-grandfathered because the insurance companies "downgrading" them. The very purpose of the law and the subsequent regulations was to force individuals into the exchanges.

I can think of no presidential lie that has so directly affected so many Americans so adversely.

We don't know that he missed a thing, that anything was kept from him or that anyone failed to tell him the job wasn't getting done right.

Also from Fournier's NJ piece regarding Zero's lie:

On history's scale of deception, this one leaves a light footprint. Worse lies have been told by worse presidents, leading to more severe consequences, and you could argue that withholding a caveat is more a sin of omission

Poor Ron can't even work himself up too much outrage over his teen idol especially because, well you know, BOOOOOSH. See, it's just a "sin of omission," guys. Not nearly as bad as Republican lies. It's not like people with cancer will die because they can't keep their doc or anything like that.

That's why we went out of our way to make sure that the law allowed for grandfathering

It's remarkable how much lying he packed in to that one sentence.

That's why refers back to his contention (which is itself a lie) that if the insurance company changes it, then what we're saying is they've got to change it to a higher standard. But that's incoherent - he's saying the reason why grandfathering was added to the law was to have conditions under which grandfathering could be lost? Makes no sense.

we went out of our way

No, you lying sack of crap, the pretense of grandfathering was not out of your way, the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to keep health insurance plans they were satisfied with was very much in your way.

to make sure that the law allowed for grandfathering

The polar opposite of the truth. You went out of your way, through thousands of pages of HHS regulations, to un-grandfather the insurance plans of millions of people.
