JimmyK-- don't know about that, look at Bill/Hill. they've been lying since they could speak-- longer, and they are heroes to the chattering classes-- venerated even.

lyle

Apologies if this has been posted. I just saw it this morning:

http://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2013/11/04/maybe-pain-will-teach-you-millenials-not-to-vote-for-your-own-serfdom-n1733722

Read it twice because it's just that delicious.

Annoying Old Guy
Then you become known as, for lack of a better term, a "liar,"

You mean like McAuliffe? As someone else wrote

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me for five years, I'm an Obama voter!

I've met far too many modern American leftists who will lie to themselves so they don't have to think the grifters that pass as leaders for them have lied. Like Fournier - I suspect he has actually convinced himself of the drivel he writes.

NK(tryin'2.0)

Leftism/Liberalism is a mental illnes. Guys like Fournier were all over the yellowcake SOTU stuff-- words that were factually true, but.. you know... not really really REALLY 'true' so GWB was a deceptive tyrant.Now.... Fournier is mentally ill, just like his other Lib cohorts.

Some Guy

The lightbringer is a lying sack of manure.

[pause]

I'm sorry I shouldn't have lashed out like.

I'd like to apologize to both sacks and manure because unlike O, they are each useful in many ways.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

At some point this is all going to implode on Obama. He will not agree to dismantle, fix or even discuss the problem. If he is true to form he will orchestrate a new diversion which if he has his way will give him more power.

We need to be ready.

NK(tryin'2.0)

New diversion?...hmm... burning Reichstag?
Too Aryan.

jimmyk

NK and AOG: They may venerate Bill and Hill and vote for McGoniff, but it's not because they believe the lies. It's because they think they will get them the goodies, whether by hook or crook. In fact the "liar" label is a plus, because it shows they are amoral, and therefore the more able to bring home the bacon.

rich@gmu

nationwide snap riots? OWS?

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

Everyone should read lyle's link, just for the "I told you so" of it.

NK(tryin'2.0)

SNAP riots and La Raza amnesty demos (same thing?) would be my guesses.

Tonto

Jerry DF is an outspoken fiscal conservative. He owns an East Hampton freebie (The Independent) that gives him a weekly editorial platform. When Obama was reelected, he wrote an editorial explaining why he was selling his restaurant -- essentially it's a mug's game to be a small businessman in an Obama administration.

I don't know how socially conservative he is, but he's a loud and prominent dissenting voice out here in bluer and bluer East Hampton.

lyle

You know these fascists are just dying to impose martial law. Too loony and far-fetched? Show me any evidence to the contrary with these criminals.

Tonto

Jerry DF is an outspoken fiscal conservative. He owns a weekly freebie, The Independent, that gives him a platform for his weekly column, which invariably champions right-of-center ideas/candidates.

When Obama was reelected he sold his restaurant, explaining in a heart-felt front page story that he had worked hard for every penny he ever made (his parents were immigrants and he is entirely self-made) and that under an Obama administration it was a mug's game to be a small businessman. He may not be a social conservative, but he's a welcome (and increasingly lone) voice out here in bluer and bluer East Hampton.

lyle

Everybody calm down. Rep. Jim Moran (F.,VA) cuts the Lightbringer some serious slack. Why can't you wingnutz do the same?

Representative Jim Moran (D., Va.) excused President Obama for going back on his guarantee that Americans could keep their health-care plans because “presidents engage in a little hyperbole.”

“We’re all human,” the congressman continued. The president, he said, was “rightfully excited” about the law when he made his promise.

So he was rightfully excited that he repeated it--verbatim--29 times? What's wrong with you knuckledragging proles?

Jack is Back!

Dot,

Jerry got mugged working for Carter. He has a weekly newspaper in the Hamptons called the Independent and his editorials are harsher than those of the Washington Times or NY Post. tonto and Harry Stein can attest to his conservative values.

Do you doubt Dr. K is a conservative now? After all he was a Mondale speech writer and friend of Bob Beckel. Times and events change people.

Porchlight

Anyone voting third party anywhere anytime is wasting his vote.

Agree. But it's especially egregious when it helps elect someone who explicitly opposes your views.

Jack is Back!

tonto,

Didn't see your post before I did mine. I really liked Della Famina. Sometimes if Jerry or Judy were there they would personally make sure you were being served and that your dining experience was exceptional. Reminded me a little of Herb McCarthy (my godfather) who welcomed every billionaire as if he was a hobo:)

daddy

OT.

Tonight my co-worker was an Annapolis grad (89) and we chatted about Dot's Grandad and the Academy and the Cat shot and the O'Club at Pensacola--(named after Dot's grandad). That got us off on tangents and I mentioned 2 of my ex-CO's who were POW's.

He then said that at Annapolis he had had a chance to meet Admiral Stockdale, but that what he really enjoyed was when a classmate invited him out to an annual ritual dinner of 2 former POW's, one of whom was his classmates father or uncle, I forget which. The POW was this guy, Richard G. Tangeman.

What my guy said was fascinating was that these 2 POW's (pilot and navigator) who had been shot down in 68', and spent 5 years together was this. He said the ritual dinner was that those 2 old friends had dinner every year on the anniversary of their shootdown, and that they always went out to a Vietnamese Restaurant together. That cracked me up. From my experience, the guy I knew best, was an old CO, Captain Nels Tanner.

I recall that as a nugget in my new squadron over in the PI, he and I and a 3rd squadron-mate were on a layover over in Thailand, and that during chow at a Thai restaurant I offered him some rice, and he said no, he was not interested in having any rice, he had had enough to last him a lifetime and he would not eat any more. And we could tell he meant it. What a fascinating man. Had great, great respect for him. Marvelous to hear how others cope with that experience.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

The Mayor of Toronto is saying how hard this getting caught smoking crack cocaine has been on him.

NK(tryin'2.0)

Daddy-- excuse my ignorance... what is 'the PI'

NK(tryin'2.0)

PS: Daddy-- please check with your co-worker if he knew a Lt. Andy Graziano at Canoe U. In 88-89 Andy taught seamanship and 'leadership' on the YP Boats.

Jack is Back!

daddy,

Have you ever read "Honor Bound: American POW's in Southeast Asia 1961-1973" by Stuart Rochester and Frederick Kiley? All your guys are in there. Every year I host a pre-Veteran's day cocktail party at my house and a few years back we had Charlie Stackhouse (McCain's room mate at the Hilton) and Mike Christain's widow as our guests.

I think you know Mike's story - he was the guy who sewed a small American flag into his prison garb - was found - got beat to hell - and went back into his cell and sewed it back on.

Those guys are special people and its the only reason I want McCain to go quietly and not by some kind of special force. We can never pay them enough for what they went through. If there are doubters out there, go get the book and read it. Horrifying but they prevailed.

daddy

NK,

PI = Philippine Islands.

Jack is Back!

daddy and even DoT will appreciate this.

At our annual Veterans's Muster we will honor a guy who is now 92 (still plays golf and bocce) who survived the bonzai attack at the battle of Attu and went on to win 2 Bronze stars in the Liberations of the Phillippines.

jimmyk

On whether the left actually believes the lies or plays along with them, a couple of weeks ago there was a story about an insider, I think in the Obama administration, who basically acknowledged that no one believed the rhetoric, it was all about the ends justifying the means. I commented here at the time how revealing it was. I just can't remember now any of the details. :(

Jack is Back!

jimmyk,

saw your comment on selling lies versus truth and agree with your comment. The only difference here is that you have a whole 'estate" helping selling it by not challenging the lie.

Sue

DoT,

Just thought you might like to know that the Navy remembered your grandfather this morning in a Facebook post. I get blasts from the Navy and the SEALs when there is anything going on. This'd ending, instead of news of a new sub we got this date in history featuring your Grandaddy.

Sue

This morning. I have no idea what autocorrect was trying to say.

Annoying Old Guy

jimmyk;

Yes, I agree the top of the hierarchy knows it's all a scam, but I think the bulk of the rank and file doublethink themselves in to belief.

daddy

NK,

I'll ask on Graziano. I suspect he would since my guy was on the Crew Team.

JiB,

Actually got a glimpse from overhead of Attu a few weeks back. It is almost always cloud covered, but about every 5 years I'm lucky enough to be overhead when there is a slight break in the weather and you can see some of the terrain, and if you've read the battle you can make out where the Jap's did their final suicide assault. Thanks for honoring that great man.

I vaguely recall how many of those initial troops sent up north for the Aleutian campaign had received training down near balmy San Diego and then were sent north with warm weather clothing instead of cold weather gear, and were grossly ill-prepared for cold weather ops. Must have been horrible.

Janet

I haven't been monitoring the election but my listserv has 3 emails begging people to go vote.
A light turnout in Northern VA should help Cuccinelli.

daddy,

The 17th Infantry Regiment assigned to the 7th Infantry Division came out of Washington State not California. So, I guess they were more prepared for rain than sun.

MarkO

I pose this question:

If Obama were to admit he had smoked crack a year ago or so, would anything change?

narciso

McCain is a weasel, none of the other POWs, not Risner, Denton, Stockdale, Day, behaves like this, every single time, he stabs the party in the back, and he gives the Dems the benefit of the doubt.

Porchlight

This'd ending, instead of news of a new sub we got this date in history featuring your Grandaddy.

Super cool to hear about DoT's legendary family. My great-uncle Bob Baldwin spent almost his entire Navy career in aviation (and lived in DoT's neck of the woods for awhile as well). He was my dad's hero growing up; my dad, cousin and son are all named after him.

LouP

If Obama were to admit he had smoked crack a year ago or so, would anything change?

The VA "Libertarians" would love him more...

MarkO

It would be unsurprising to any psychiatrist that McCain would shrink from confrontation and seek accommodation.

Porchlight

If Obama were to admit he had smoked crack a year ago or so, would anything change?

Probably not. If anything it would give him a "go on Oprah and get forgiven" opportunity to win back wandering LIVs.

And somehow it would be insinuated that a Tea Partier sold it to him.

A friend of mine that lives in rural VA said when he and his wife voted this morning it was very light. I think he said he was #308. He lives in a very conservative district. He is worried that conservative turnout is too low.

Jack is Back!

Just when you thought the entitlement generation couldn't expand any further:

But then I completely agree with :)

LouP

Somebody please help me with this logic problem...

Democrats consider it a loathsome burden on the poor and elderly to have a photo ID to vote.

But it's perfectly OK - not a loathsome burdern at all - to require them to have a computer to sign up for the ACA?

jimmyk on iPhone

LouP, that's a perfect example of a lie no one believes.

Thanks for telling me about that, Sue.

Today, Christie did not make nice with the Tea Party. I guess he doesn't need the votes.

Regarding those Millenials, I wonder how many who sign up will not be making the payments. Credit cards maxed out and checks might bounce.

I also think Steph's comment the other night that the debt of health care payments will affect the ability to get a mortgage.

Let alone the disaster the Christmas season will be for the economy.

narciso

So according to the Fox exit poll, the voters oppose Obamacare, 50/48, in Virginia, and they see the Tea Party as responsible for the Shutdown, 49/43, 'stuck on stupid, is the most charitable explanation, for the latter.

I also think Steph's comment the other night that the debt of health care payments will affect the ability to get a mortgage.

Mortgages, cars, any optional purchase at all. Taxes will have to skyrocket to pay for it. Jobs will be lost.

Deval Patrick has had at least 6 tax increases since he greatly expanded Romneycare to add all sorts of new free services. He's sneaking more automatic taxes in at this point.

This was an interesting email showing some headlines in 2009 when McAuliffe lost the Dem. primary -

This is what Terry McAuliffe read in the newspaper following his stunning collapse in in his 2009 bid to become Governor of Virginia:

Didn't know it had been reported earlier CC. Of course it's barely noonish where I live and I just saw it, having been out of the house most of the morning. the story of the fake bottle disturbed me. Saw an interesting documentary on how the Chinese are destroying the wine market now. I have seen this at close hand. Rich businessmen swigging $400/bottle Bordeaux's. And they are applying the same counterfeiting skills they use on Vuitton purses and copywatches.

I would bet that the fake Bordeaux's and other high end wines that seem to be the most counterfeited in this country are coming from some very sophisticated European and American sources.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

Stephanie,

How did it go?

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

Too early to call in VA. McCAuliffe has a slight lead. Cucinelli is winning in married men and women. On non-married women 75% support McCauliffe. 65% of people who say abortion is #1 issue support McCauliffe.

Wow. Charlie Trotter? I met him a few times when I used to have to go to Chicago regularly. When I saw him on TV last year I didn't recognize him, the Charlie I knew was thin, dark haired and clean shaven, while the guy on TV was chubby, greying with scruffy beard. Didn't realize how long it had been seen I'd last seen him in person.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

Capn' Democrats rely on the issue of "abortion" to win elections. Abortion has not been at risk since Roe - back in the '70's, but women have been raised to believe that is the only issue that counts. The more a candidate is worried, the louder he will yell about your right to kill your baby.

Emily's list gives out kazillions to those candidates.

Back in 2001 a friend of mine ran for congress in an election that happened on 9-11. She was a a very liberal democrat, who came out as a lesbian, mid term in the state senate. (I think she was trying to hide it from her parents until then. I had no idea) At any rate, 6 weeks before the election I asked her why she wasn't running and she said it was because she couldn't win.

A week later she announced. I asked what changed and she said "Emily's List" gave her a million dollars.

She was unrecognizable in that campaign. She had always been a great campaigner but now all she could talk about was abortion.

She lost to Steven Lynch who is pro-life and the most conservative democrat we (MA) have in Congress. He didn't win because he was pro-life but because he had been a union guy.

@matt - The Chinese have been skyrocketing Bordeaux prices for decades. It's outrageous. Of course, the upper end US wines have been swept up in the market, as well. I've been on the Harlan list for many years and have watched their prices curve up steadily.

Some of the counterfeiting is legendary. And yes, a lot of it starts in Europe. Magnums of a top vintage at market when the chateau, Le Pin for example, didn't even produce the format in a few of those years.
