Beasts of England

Prayers again, Stephanie!

Jeff Dobbs

Update: for those waiting on an email "with further instructions", we are putting the finishing touches on it. Gotta make sure we dot all our ducks and get all our t's in a row. We can't afford an Obamacare-like rollout. Thanks for your patience. But even more for being ridiculously awesome.

Frau Mitleid

More of the same incoming, Stephanie. Feel the group hug and be the group hug.

Captain Hate on the iPhone

That's an interesting story, Jane; I'm not sure what to make of it but it sounds like it was a poisonous issue for your friend.

Did anybody hear Debbie Fatass-Schootz read the word "misled" from a script and pronounced it "my-zeld" with the emphasis on the first syllable.

I'm not sure what to make of it but it sounds like it was a poisonous issue for your friend.

I never thought of it that way. To me, she lost her natural, extremely effective campaign style because she had to spend all her time on an issue that didn't exist to please her donors - which I guess means you nailed it.

Jack is Back!

Good luck Stephanie. Our prayers are with you. Hang in there. Too many holes to play.

Since healthcare is your right
No, no, I won’t take that away from you

With 507 of 2,541 precincts reporting @KenCuccinelli has a 53-40% lead over @TerryMcAuliffe http://www.wdbj7.com/news/election/results/ … @VAGOV #VAVOTES

AliceH

Hey, now. I've no love for DWS, but I don't see ridicule being warranted on that one.

One of the smartest people I've ever known pronounced "misled" as "mizzled" until he was in his 20's. It's a lesser occurring case of mispronounced words (like epitome and catastrophe) by people who read a lot at a young age.

Think about it: you just learned about -ed for actions that happened... you see "misled"... OBVIOUSLY that is past tense of a new verb misl. Right?

Extraneus

Why is Drudge showing Cuccinelli leading 51-42?

Jack is Back!

Issues that mattered most to #VAGov voters? The economy (45%), health care (27%), abortion (20%). Per exit poll

Danube on iPad

Steph, you're a treasure, and I'm with you heart and soul.

Ace says it is called for McAuliffe with 12% of the precincts in, based on bellwether precincts. But the much more complete numbers at Drudge have mr wondering.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

My fear is regardless of the numbers they will steal it.

BB Key

Switching around to see who is in the tank and MSNBC, has called the race for Lt. Gov with candidates at 50%-50% for the Dem , who has 11,999 less total votes than Cuch....can some on ebetter at math explain

BB Key

narciso

'what can I tell you,' it's the war on Math.

cathyf

Early results are always misleading because, a) poll workers in republican precincts are more competent at tallying and reporting results, and b) the dems hold back until they know how many they need to steal.

We gotta learn how to hold back. Or, even better, misreport a giant dem win like that county in WI, and then correct it with the real results after the dems turn theirs in. (Who knows, the WI misreport may have even been an honest mistake. But it sure turned out brilliantly!)

(A) nuther Bub

All depends on which precincts have not reported yet. Is anything in from Richmond?

If that stalking horse libertarian ruined it for Cuccinelli it will be horrible. I'd almost rather he lost it by a wide margin -- if he has to lose -- than to be defeated by fewer votes than went to Sarvis.

narciso

How is an 8 point lead, 'too close to call' I know it's only a small sample, but shirley.

BB Key

All I care about is they call for Cuch before POI

peter

Dems always keep some votes in their pockets until the end.

sbwaters

Stephanie, good luck with the hydrocodone, but if it doesn't stop the pain or has side effects, ask for something else. Some painkillers work better than others.

Sue

A tweet from someone in Cuccinelli's war room says they are going to lose by 5. Northern VA is going to give Mc the win.

Sue

Stephanie,

Hydrocodone is what they gave me. Hopefully they help you.

Trevor Saccucci

If Cuccinelli pulls this off tonight I'll gladly consider changing my tune from "speed the plow and clear the barricades" to "crusade and crucify". People like Obama and McAuliffe bother me at a deep level; they propagate big lies with an ease and authority that would've marveled Goebbels - yes, I said it - and I'd be delighted to see them actively run off the public stage by their conservative opposition. As for Ace's projection, at the end of the night he may well end up being correct, but he defaults to Eeyoreism in these matters as a reflex action. I can believe that Obama"s Big Lie is beating McAuliffe like a rented mule even in blueshifting Virginia.

I just hope it's close enough that the recent tightening will be clearly seen as a message about Obamacare. Obamacare is the most important issue concerning the citizens' relationship with their government that has been presented in my lifetime. If the citizens can't draw the line here, it's Game Over.

BB Key

Went to Va Board of Elections w/ 56% of precincts Cuch only up by 4% , they have the map function disabled, the fake L is hurting Cuch big time

Trevor Saccucci

If, on the other hand, Cuccinelli loses, I'll just consider it more evidence in suport of the proposition that the political momentum of American Statism made manifest in the PBFP and the FSA will detonate the Debt Bomb State and choke off OPM, probably sooner rather than later.

BB Key

Cuch now down to a 2% lead , fake L has over 100 K votws

Sue

Looks like the Libertarian candidate is going to hand McAulliffe the win. There was a report today that an Obama bundler helped him.

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

It's truly amazing how close it is. McCaulliff was supposed to win by 20 points. It's not over yet - and the only think the narrowing can be blamed on is Obama and Obamacare.

BB Key

it is now close enough for the the Dems to steal

Miss Marple

I don't suppose Cuccinelli was smart enough to hold out some votes from the mountains.

I would laugh myself silly if he did that.

Sue

Dave,

Twitter folks are saying N VA just now coming in.

narciso

That's plus McAuliffe, is a slimy facehugger,

Trevor Saccucci

If a third-party candidate (and just who the "third-party candidate" is depends on which of the three candidates you start your count from) does derail an election for an R or D candidate, the people I ultimately hold accountable (and not in a good way) are the voters and the candidates themselves. In the VA gubernatorial election, I weight that heavily toward the voters; all things considered in that race, if they don't want a statist Governor there they really should know better than to vote for the Libertarian (possibly a LINO) over Cuccinelli.

Porchlight

GOP not getting behind Cuccinelli makes me want to spit. Ridiculous. How do you win when your own party cuts you off at the knees?

Gmax

up 24K votes with 95% vote in? I told you exit polls are notoriously skewed towards liberals. Even if McAwful pulls it out with a lean at the tape, the exit polls were unadulterated carp...

Jane-Rebel Alliance1

Brett Baier says whether Cucinelli wins for not the message is clear and overwhelming that democrats are in huge trouble.

dublindave

I just crunched some numbers,McCaullife is about to blow past Cooch and win by between 3 and 6%. I'm never wrong so you can take this prediction to the bank.

So I guess anal and Oral sex will still be legal in Virginia tommorow. Would I be too brash in suggesting a collective sigh among our female conservative commentators(and a few guys too you know who i'm talking about)

henry

Is this going to recount theater?

Porchlight

I would agree with Baier. McAuliffe is running well behind Obama just about everywhere and in many places by double digits.

Obenshain, the GOP candidate for AG has 70K more votes than Cuccinelli. Sarvis is drawing off some support but Cuccinelli is also paying an ego price. I have no idea how the two might be segregated but Obenshain's 52% should cause a run on Immodium by Dem Senate incumbents.

Doubtful about that. I think some would have crossed over to make a difference, but most would have stayed home or voted Dem based on the "oh GOP creepy socialist" campaign Sarvis ran. Surprised that Cuccinelli is running this well. Maybe Ocare is having a affect.

Not a doubt in my mind, rich. I had a strong hope for tonight and it didn't come true but it came a lot more true than I thought it would.

If that makes sense.

Three more weeks and it would have been a Cuccinelli win, I think.

Threadkiller

WTF?

Janet

What a disgrace to have Terry McAuliffe as Governor of Virginia.

Threadkiller

Allow me to join in those prayers, Stephanie.

Previously I had been praying for a retelling of your wardrobe malfunction story.

;-)

Frau Lotte Lenya

The Dems will use any and all means to win. We've seen this movie before. It was a miracle that GWB actually won two times. I realize there are many here in Cleoville and other blue hells who dispute those facts.

Miss Marple

Frau Lotte Lenya,

I always thought their anger at Bush was because they underestimated his charisma and popularity, and didn't cheat enough to overcome his real landslide wins.

I would still be very happy if Cuccinelli held back some votes. This should be SOP for the GOP going forward.

dublindave

McAuliffe better lay on a nice spread for Bill Clinton whenever he visits Virginia. Booze, teen girls, the best of food......i'd go so far as to say that Virginia is now Bubba's personal mancave.

My 3-6% margin predictor is still on course.

narciso

Prayers for you, Stephanie.

'You ask for Miracles' Theo,' I give you the RNC which ladled the funds like Oliver Twist's gruel.

Porchlight

I would still be very happy if Cuccinelli held back some votes. This should be SOP for the GOP going forward.

I don't think he has any control of that unless you mean coordinating with certain friendly districts. Not sure that is kosher.

Rand Paul's PAC just called me. If I wasn't on the way to bed I would have picked up and given them some money.

narciso

Well if Cucinelli had won, the cleanup bill on 'Morning Joke' would have been prohibitive, all those heads exploding

Miss Marple

Porchlight, the democrats do it. In every urban area in every state where they need to manufacture votes, plus they do it in the Indian reservations.

I see no reason why the counting in certain areas has to be done so quickly. Let the counters sit down to a nice, catered meal first. And then let them count the votes 3 times, "just to be sure", before reporting.

I no longer care about rules as much as stopping the dems.

Army of Davids

Cuccinelli keeping it close in VA is all about ObamaCare

McAuliffe raised $34 million vs $19 Cuccinelli

McAuliffe had double digit poll leads 2 weeks ago.

Expect Senate Democrats to continue to run away from ObamaCare and there will be more proposals to delay the individual mandate (from Senate Democrats)

Might be best for Republicans to sit back and let Democrats fight among themselves on this...ObamaCare is becoming toxic politically for them.

Bela1

Driving home I heard Cuccinelli was in the lead by a wide enough margin. Yes! I thought. By the time I got home, VA called it for the scumbag???! Are you freaking kidding me? I thought.

WTH happened? I'd fight that rat bastard tooth and nail.

Stephanie, hang in there and know we're all thinking of you and hope things will turn out better. Like many here, I'll continue to pray that they will. Wish that I could be there to help you out. You're one of my JOM favs, so big hugs to you!

Army of Davids

Porchlight

I am trying to get this in my head. They look at polls and then decide to sit on money like it is dragon treasure and not help?

We've talked about it before but the political landscape is always changing. What looks like an unviable candidate two years out can often become viable toward election time. Pat Toomey is the perfect example. When the party withholds funds and other support early on, it might seem like a smart bet at the time, but it turns out to be the wrong one later.

Plus sometimes they are just damned spiteful if their guy doesn't win the primary. That's the worst of all.

This is one way I respect the Dems. They are all in for their candidate, start to finish. There are exceptions like a Lieberman but they prove the rule.

(A) nuther Bub

Then what good is the RNC?

I don't know what the truth is but I just heard Guy Benson discussing this race and he said the RNC was generous with Cuccinelli. Benson discussed individual conservatives like me who gave lip service to wanting a win, but donated not one red sou. I felt guilty because I'm one of those, although I often give to individual candidates from outside my state. I guess I felt too, that he hadn't a chance. Shame on me. Anyway, my thanks and respect to anyone at JOM who sent Cooch a donation.

rich@gmu

Not sure holding out Fairfax City for the margin of frad is ok either.
