Happy Thanksgiving & Hannakuh!

narciso79

did I hear correctly, the next conjunction of those two events for 79,000 years.

centralcal

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving and Hanukkah to all. I don't have to make anything and don't have to travel too far - not leaving for a couple of hours - so this truly is a stress free and blessed holiday for me!

Stephanie, so sorry about the nausea. Babara, sorry you're unable to eat much today! Maybe the both of you can have a mini-replay of Thanksgiving goodies a few days from now. I have done that before.

Happy Thanksgiving & Hannukah!!

I have been wondering if something would try to sneak through this week as happened last year and sure enough it is the new definitions of citizenship that were so controversial in Hong KOng. They so wanted to release in during a quiet period it is my 1st doc that has a 2014 copyright notice. Whatever. I am thankful that is successfully seized, read, and stashed.

I am also thankful I located the best place to order a turkey from and suggested inlaws bring that. Just as I suspected my family was in "what's for dinner" mode last night and I cheated and picked up pizzas Monday night. And nibbled on those leftovers while prepping side dishes the last 2 days.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Can someone report back on the creamed cheese mashed potatoes? Hoping to have the human eating machine for Christmas and that would be handy to know.

If the "Non-partisan" group doesn't find any success stories do they have to give the million dollar grant back?
Is there no control whatsoever over how much money the Obama regime can give to leftists?

Jeff Dobbs

I was trying to post that Carlson quote via Ace, Ext. Notice this...

Two statements explain the huge failure of Obamacare. One is by President Barack Obama, the other is about him.

The first was made in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the end of the 2008 primary campaign, when candidate Obama predicted that generations would look back and see his nomination as “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

Sure, everyone remembers that oceans part of that St. Paul speech (even if many think Obama said they would recede, which he didn't).

But when talking about Obamacare, there is another more relevant reference in that speech that Obama was certain we would look back on...

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick

Shoot. Something's gone wrong. What happened.....oh, wait. I know...

They told me that if I voted for John McCain, millions would have their health insurance policies cancelled. And they were right!

Miss Marple

One of the things I find most disturbing about all this is the continual, intentional use of religious and particularly messianic language used for Obama and his policies.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

Is there no control whatsoever over how much money the Obama regime can give to leftists?

No control. It's the looting of a nation. Our tax dollars fund the leftist ...all the "green" groups, Planned Parenthood, la Raza,..all of 'em.
Pigford, the "green" bankrupt companies like Solyndra, reimbursed "green" organizations when they sue,...
It never ends.
We need a Sherman's march through the leftist supply lines. Cut them off. Cut off right groups too for that matter.

I know I'm repetitive on this stuff but the people a narcissist surrounds himself with are Eric Hoffer's True Believer cubed.
It is literally a cult, with the N in the middle, functioning as a type of deity.
Unless you have closely encountered one of these bizarre little self-contained solar systems you can't begin to understand the fealty that is involved. The N literally builds an alternate universe that cohabits with this one and the intrusion of reality is more unwelcome than head lice at a haberdashery.
This cult has to interface with the real world of course and all of its energy is devoted to looking as normal as possible while doing so, but the interface is always on its terms and only bends to reality very grudgingly and only when absolutely necessary.

It is amazing how otherwise seemingly sensible people are drawn into the orbit of this black hole of surrealism and will very soon be impervious to reason, choosing instead to believe the most outlandish lies about people they have known their whole lives and rationalizing away any evidence that is contrary to the constructed "reality" they live in no matter if the whole rest of the world tells them it's true and it's in black and white with a certified stamp on it.
The rest of the world has been so demonized that any contrary evidence is written off as the machinations of sinister forces arrayed against the N because at its heart is this conceit "we're the only sane ones, the rest of the world is crazy".
In reality, every narcissist believes he is hopelessly damaged and worthless and separated from the rest of the world by the damage so they build the alternate reality to protect that craziness and hence the conceit. The omniscient, smartest-guy-in-the-room facade they project to the world is simply to protect this half formed person at their center and the world is apparently full to the brim with idiots just yearning to be drawn into this nutcake's world.

That Retail Action Project is a reminder what is coming in 2014 and accelerating now but you know what, we have pieced it together. In between cooking I am reading a 75 book that laid out what is now being sought. And why. And there's no dispute or the intention to give up prosperity and that will not play well.

http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/once-again-being-grateful-for-what-we-know-and-appreciating-why-it-matters/ went up yesterday. It is mostly last year's philosophical piece on why liberty matters and why control over widely held ideas is so necessary once social control is sought.

That's a story we will all need to be able to make in the coming months. We are not the ones with a toxic hope for the future.

Happy Thanksgiving and Hannukah, JOMers. I give you George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation from 1789:

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me ‘to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.’

“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, Who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of His providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

“And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.”

So, we see the real reason she was carved up, and served by CBS;

OL,
If you get what you pay for then my insight into narcissists should be pretty extensive since it cost me a few million.
I always just assumed my brother was just a foul tempered jerk at times. He wasn't a jerk all the time so it was hard to spot the pattern, especially since I'm so bad at it. And he also had a semi plausible explanation for what he was doing.

This was his world; people around him who he bullied into compliance and some external enemy who he needed to have some war with, of both the hot and cold varieties.

But once I decided to pick up my jacks and stop making him a living I became enemy numero uno.
A friend who is a therapist, and diagnosed him immediately after I told her his behavior, is the one who revealed the pattern to it all. And I started commenting on a board of people with relatives and spouses of Ns and the stories were all depressingly similar.
Once I understood him then everything he did became not only clear but generally predictable although they always seem to surprise at the audacity of the lies they'll tell.
The true revelation, and shock, though came as I watched my otherwise fairly sensible sisters and even my mom choose his psycho side of things.
I told them time and again what would happen and everything I said came to pass and nothing he said ever did and it made not the slightest dent in their perceptions of his trustworthiness and my supposed duplicity.
Even the total drubbing they took in the last trial where the judge publicly humiliated him when he started yapping his gibberish in court was sufficient to pierce the coccoon they live in.
The first of the year I'm finally filing suit, first to boot them from the non profit they have been abusing for ten years and used to sue us and then individually. I have no idea if even a $5 million dollar judgment would make a dent. It's not inconceivable there could be criminal prosecutions. Sadly, if they ended up broke and with a criminal record for following their Pied Piper of a brother I suspect they would still think he was right all along and the crazy world just screwed them.
Know any good deprogrammers?

Ignatz

So, we see the real reason she was carved up, and served by CBS;

I'm still not seeing where Davies isn't a reliable source. Everything he's being taken to task on was an effort to find out what was going on rather than sitting on his duff as ordered.

If Fat Boy wanted to be taken seriously as a candidate he'd be blasting this and every other thing related to this still unexamined scandal.

Old Lurker

Fascinating, Iggy.

My sister badgered my father into supporting her forever. When Dad died I got that job because I got to run the little company that owned our rental real estate in WV. The bitch drove me nuts, but for Mom's sake I just wrote the checks. When Mom died, my brother handled Mom's estate (he was her lawyer) and that brought out all of her evil hatred toward "all Lurker Men" but all that rolled off my brother's litigator back, not problem. So she focused her venom on me (sounding JUST like your brother). I put up with that for two years then notified my brother and sister that I had run Dad's company for 25 years, that I had written personal checks for $600,000 to support its losses which included payments to Mom and Sister (but not to my brother or me), but that come 12/31 of that year I intended to be done with all the drama. We sold some of the assets and I got back all but $150,000 of my loans which I then forgave so the company would be debt free. Then I told them both that I considered the fair value of the remaining assets to be $X for each of our thirds, and that I would pay them each $2X (twice the value of their thirds) if they both agreed to sell their shares to me within 30 days. However if both of them did not agree to sell, then I would not buy out the other, rather I would dispose of my third on my own. Basically I told them I either wanted it all with no other shareholders or none of it.

Sure enough, the bitch assumed if I were offering $2X, it was clearly worth much more than that so she refused.

After 30 days my brother said he would deal with her and he would buy my shares for the $2X I had offered him. Told him he could have the shares but not at a premium, and if he had to take her on, he could have my shares for $X/2.

I think the last conversation I had with her was her screaming at me about how could I have thrown her into a 50-50 deal with my brother and what a bad person that made me. I quietly suggested she check her math on that 50/50 thing and offered that she was about to learn what 1/3 of the shares of a corporation really entitled her to, particularly when the other 2/3 were owned by a litigator.

I understand her education has been brutal.

And my life has been peaceful ever since.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Moses Fletcher

We are enjoying the virtual family Thanksgiving at Iggy's house where OL and his sister are special guests and Iggy's brother shows up with the rolls:)

Today's Thanksgiving Dinner wine - a 2000 Vieux Chateau Certain (Pomerol).

Ignatz

--I understand her education has been brutal.--

Here's hoping for a brutal New Year out here on the West Coast as well, OL.

The really sad thing is I had split up from him business-wise in 1990 and we went through a mini drama then, but I just assumed he was an a-hole not a lunatic, so to make peace in the family and smooth any ruffled feathers I invited him back in, in 1992.
Ranks second in the mistakes I've made, below only my lack of insistence Mrs. Iggy do her mammograms in her mid and late forties.

Old Lurker

Iggy, I will grant you your mistake letting the brother back in. But never any second guessing regarding Mrs. Iggy. Stop that.

Old Lurker

Nice wine Moses! Thanks for having us over.

Ignatz

If my brother shows up JiB, I'll have to put the welcome mat over the Burmese Tiger trap I dug for just such an occasion. :)

OL,
I suggested she do them but she felt she had too much radiation from her days as a dental hygienist and so I let it drop. I should have insisted and didn't. It's not eating me up, but it has been a kind of background radiation, for want of a better term, for the last eight years.

Ultimately it was her decision and of course there's no guarantee they would have found it anyway, but the great irony is she absorbed 1,000 times, who knows maybe 10,000 times the radiation undergoing radiation therapy and various scans as she would have from a couple of mammograms.

My Thanksgiving request is every JOM gal be sure and do hers and understand that breast self exams are almost completely useless.
Not to indulge in too much Janet-like TMI, but I kept those breasts pretty busy and didn't feel the lump until it was about an inch in diameter. And her ob/gyn had given her a manual exam right around then and had missed it too and had in previous years when it was smaller but still palpable.

Old Lurker

Just finished our Thanksgiving dinner and I am please to report that the Certan was everything Robert Parker said of it - 98pts and worthy of HOF status.

I cooked a fresh turkey from Publix and glazed it with a basting syrup I made from the soak of dried prunes and apricots, a little honey, a little lemon and water. Let it simmer to thicken, added a fig-induced balsamic and whisked in a stick of butter. Glazed it every 15 minutes which produced the most crispy delicious skin and moist meat I have ever had. Thanks to Tyler Florence for the tip on the glaze. He uses figs but I wanted to use the dried prunes and apricots I already had.

Now, what to do with "de reste"? That is why I have a Belgian in the house. They do more with leftovers than the French do with fresh ingredients.:)

Moses Fletcher

BoE,

Certan is my BIL's family. His cousin has Le Pin. Every TG, Christmas, and Birthdays plus our Anniversary we break out the Certan. More than a little too robust for turkey but who cares about pairings with such a fine wine:)
