ABC News: New Obamacare Headache: Is Your Enrollment Real?

For those who thought they enrolled in a plan through the federal exchange since October, the Obama administration now advises that individuals contact their insurance company to verify coverage and if none exists, to start all over again.

“Consumers should absolutely call their selected plan, confirm that they have paid their first month’s premium and that coverage would be available to them, beginning January 1st,” said Julie Bataille, communications director for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS.

Um, Julie, unless they have had direct contact with their insurance company already, there is no way they can possibly have paid their first month’s premium. The payment system on Healthcare.FAIL isn't built yet.

Incidentally, why isn't it CMMS?

This brings us to today. Late Monday night, the president announced that he and other Democrats would be mounting a daily campaign to attract users to the ACA website which, after nearly a month of triage, NBC News’ Chuck Todd charitably described as “workable.” But it is not workable. A story gracing the front page of the Washington Post on Tuesday detailed how the backend of the site continues to be plagued by serious errors, including the fact that up to one third of users who believe they have applied for private insurance will discover in January that they have not.

Again, no matter. The crisis that these errors will create in January is January’s problem. Today’s crisis, one of internal cohesion within the Democratic Party, is more acute. The left demands that caution be abandoned in favor of a hollow display of force.

These panic-inspired offensive operations against ACA opponents are not designed to achieve any strategic objective. They are politically inspired and are aimed at achieving a political goal. Each has had the temporary effect of increasing Democratic unity, but the president cannot overcome the static conditions of the terrain on which they are fighting. The underlying problems associated with the ACA are fracturing the Democratic Party. So long as the ACA remains unreformed, the Democrats are in a losing position.

Imagine the time on the line when you have to actually use Obamacare. We are regularly on the phone regarding coverage issues for family members, and fighting with Obamacare providers is going to dwarf the issues of the PPO and HMO systems now in place.

I may actually watch Matthews interview the president. I have never seen a man hump the leg of another man like a chihuahua in heat before.

As to drones, the FAA has not yet weighed in, and I think will be very dour about the idea of hundreds of thousands of drones flitting about the country. Weight/balance/fuel load issues will abound and the liability for a literally dropped shipment will be huge.

Though hospitals’ nonprofit status allows them to reap tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in tax benefits, California Pacific Medical Center’s main campuses spent 1.27 percent of their more than $1.1 billion in net patient revenues in 2011 on free care for indigent or uninsured patients, lower than the state average of 2.07 percent, according to statistics compiled by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The far smaller St. Luke’s branch spent 5.32 percent that year.

I thought indigent and uninsured care was bankrupting hospitals which was why we needed to get them coverage????

Miss Marple

Danube,

I am not to armed insurrection yet, but I am certainly into hiding out and avoiding any contact with the government.

I just escaped having to deal with this by going onto Medicare this fall. I bought the most extensive supplement I could find, reasoning that if doctors saw that the Medicare payment would be supplemented by my insurance policy, they might actually accept me as a patient.

My sister (who voted for Obama) is disgusted by this entire snafu. She is on Cobra from a previous employer and has a history of cancer. Her Cobra has gone up to $450 just for her. She was thinking she would go onto the Healthcare.gov site to see if she could get something cheaper.

I told her not to do it, but to call an insurance broker, as she would possibly be put in Medicaid (she is currently unemployed) or her information might be stolen.

That got her even more upset. I was sympathetic and helpful, hoping she will FINALLY realize that the people on my side are not the villains.

FWIW, we are complying with the new Chinese requirements to operate in their newly claimed ADIZ. I heard American and Delta and some other US carriers were doing so, but I positively know that we are complying with the Chinese mandates to pre-file the required info in our flight plans, in order to operate in the newly created ADIZ.

I can understand why commercial companies are doing it, as China is a huge customer for them, and in the short term it costs these companies nothing and is quite easy to comply with, but it is a bummer to me because I sit here in Japan, where this Chinese power grab is the news of the day, and non-compliance is the stance of the Japanese. That our commercial companies are giving tacit approval to China's power grab by complying must be distressing to the Japanese, but at least the crack Foreign policy team of Joe Biden and Caroline Kennedy are over here to go thru the motions of pretending to stand firm with their allies.

What you say is true. However, that destructive doing is being done by people who CAN manage and realize that no one is watching.

Holder is the perfect AG for Obama. He takes his cues from the "talking" and then runs with it, without an order ever having been given. Same with the IRS operation. They just KNEW what Obama wanted, and went ahead and did it.

We have an administration of talking only, while the different cabinet departments operate based on their feelingsof what they thnk would please Obama.

How would it be a risk? Those people know anything they do in the service of Obama would not be prosecuted.

Also, Obama doesn't have the faintest idea how anything works. He probably said something on the order of "Who will rid me of this troublesome priest?" and his minions ran with it.

Now, receiving reports on progress after they initiated the persecutions, that I can believe. They probably ran to theWhite House with their reports hoping for a promotion or bonus, knowing he would be well pleased with their initiatives.

I am currently reading a book called "Monument Men" about the people in the Army who recovered so much of the art the Nazis looted.

It's very instructive reading the letters from Rosenberg (the head looter) to Hitler and Goering. You could almost substitute lois Lerner for Rosenberg and the tone would be about the same. "Look what I did, mein Fuhrer! I hope you will be pleased with he extra gifts we confiscated!"

I guess this explains why we are complying with the Chinese ADIZ that I mentioned in my comment above at 03:55.

Afraid of China, State Dept Undermines Two Centuries of U.S. Doctrine---(Trust John Kerry's State Department to walk into a Chinese-made trap)

---...the harm the State Department caused on Friday when it advised U.S. carriers to comply with Beijing’s demands for its new zone.

---The State Department, when it advised American carriers to respect the zone, stated that its position “does not indicate U.S. government acceptance of China’s requirements for operating in the newly declared ADIZ.”

---but the Chinese have used the compliance of American carriers to bolster the legitimacy of its zone: “The submission of flight plans to the competent Chinese authorities by airlines of relevant countries including the US shows their constructive attitude and cooperative will in upholding aviation order and security in the airspace above the East China Sea together with China,”

Short version---Beijing to Obama--"Thanks for legitimizing our power grab and throwing your Japanese allies under the bus."

Best Foreign Policy ever.

Jane

Marlene,

Did the surgery go well?

Miss Marple

Porchlight,

You have a point. I still maintain it wasn't Obama, because they carefully insulate him from anything for which he should take blame. Probably Jarrett, who seems to operate behind the scenes on almost everything.

The lie about "you can keep your plan, etc." has been the one thing they couldn't blame on someone else. And we see how disastrous that has been for his popularity.

Everything else he has done (or failed to do) has been covered up by layers of underlings, mixed messages, hazy lines of authority, and the public's confusion of how things are supposed to work.

Marlene

Similarly every generation of mankind has to relive the idiocies of the past; in this case the thirties, appeasing totalitarians and trying disastrous statist solutions to some temporary blip in markets.

Would we be worse or better off governed by a party of three toed sloths?

So I turn on CNN here in the Hotel within the last minute. They discuss Biden visiting Beijing and mention the Chinese ADIZ problem overshadowing his visit, but naturally CNN fails to mention that the State Department told US carriers to comply with the Chinese ADIZ requirements, so a viewer would have no knowledge of that piece of the problem.

Instead they simply tell us that Biden is in Beijing and that a problem of some sort exists concerning something called a Chinese ADIZ. They tell us that Biden has so far said nothing about this Chinese ADIZ thing at all, and you viewers don't need to know anything more about the Chinese ADIZ problem than that because it might make Biden, Kerry and Obama look incompetent if we told you something about the Chinese ADIZ situation.

OT (or not, since it does relate to health care), I've got a research question for the next book.

This one is for the JOM medical contingent, but if anyone else knows, please jump in. THe question is, if someone is brought into the hospital unconscious (say, a car accident victim, or whatever) and they require immediate, emergency surgery...

Are they given anesthesia, even though they're already unconscious? This may be a really dumb question, but I really don't know and I want to try and get the scene as right as I can.

(I know there are other issues regarding consent, etc., but I'm not worried about that at the moment - just the practical issue of preparing an unconscious patient for an emergency procedure)...

Thanks!
