On Fox News there was a 'crawl' tonight saying that Twitter was blocking tweets that linked to a pro-Phil Robertson website. Did anyone hear about this? It seems outrageous, even if it's within Twitter's rights to do it.
Even if it's "within their rights", the quickest way to kill a communications channel is to select who can use it. I despise Twitter, so won't mourn its passing.

Dang it, I had to put the heat back on tonight. Last night I had the windows open. Lows in the 30s. Pshaw! I think it's supposed to be clear with low humidity, so that last batch of divinity is going in the kitchenaid in the morning.

The biggest setback the last few Christmases has been weather amenable to making it.

Good to see from the story and the comments that Alaskan citizens are angry with the decision, such as:
But it's ok to build more wind turbines that kill eagles and that's acceptable...
For background on how bad we're getting screwed, Ed Markey called for denying this deal back in March which angered even Senator Begich, so this is what I posted back then.
Amazing that a swap of 60,000 acres for a 1 lane gravel road thru 206 acres is somehow a bad deal for the Enviro's.
Just for perspective, according to Wiki, Central Park in New York City is 843 Acres total, so the Moose, Caribou, and Grizzly's would have received a bit of pristine protected property roughly 80 times the size of Central Park, or (again according to WIKI) would have received an area between 3 to 4 times the size of Manhattan Island."
So that "26 mile gravel road/land swap deal for 60,000 acres for wilderness", that Rep Markey thinks is a bad idea, is also a bad idea according to Bruce Babbitt.]
That’s the message that was conveyed to a group of soldiers at Camp Shelby by an equal opportunity officer from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, according to a soldier who attended a recent briefing.
That''ll be tied in to the children's Christmas Cards to the troops being disallowed because they said "Merry Christmas" on them.
The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) is a U.S. Department of Defense joint services school located at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, offering both resident and off-site courses in areas including equal opportunity, intercultural communication, and religious, racial, gender, and ethnic diversity and pluralism to civilian and military personnel working with the American armed forces.
...
DEOMI was established in 1971 as the Defense Race Relations Institute (DRRI) based on lessons learned from the Civil Rights movement.[1] Set against a national policy of inequality and segregation, and problems both in the civilian world and the military linked to racial tension and hostility, military leaders understood that working together across racial lines was not only the right thing to do but also a necessary element in terms of military readiness.
Consequently, an inter-service task force was convened to study "causes and possible cures of...disorders within the military." Chaired by Air Force Major General Lucius Theus, the task force resulted in Department of Defense Directive 1322.11, establishing the Race Relations Education Board, and led to the 1971 establishment of the DRRI at Patrick AFB, Florida, under the leadership of the first director, Col. Edward F. Krise, USA.[2] In July 1979 the name was changed to the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, to reflect the growing array of issues included in DEOMI courses, including sexual harassment, sexism, extremism, religious accommodation, and anti-Semitism.[1] More than 20,000 reserve and active duty military members and civilian employees of the American armed forces have graduated from DEOMI since its creation.[1]
The history of race relations in the U.S. military has sometimes been described in phases, beginning with Phase I, Executive Order #9981 issued by President Harry S. Truman, integrating the Armed Forces of the United States. Phase II, programs of education, were initiated to deal with the situation of "racial unrest." The establishment of the DRRI began this new phase in the history of race relations—and later, diversity training in its many forms.[3]

Speaking of RINOS, as the various radical groups send holiday greetings and requests for donations from supporters like me (hah) they are bragging about what they have pushed in the last year. One turned up this Global Summit on Financial Dignity with the theme that the poor will save capitalism. http://summit.operationhope.org/events/global-financial-dignity-summit/
There is Tim Pawlenty is one of the primary speakers.
"A person could probably do the same thing with Gorilla Glue"
So right-wing Christians are allowed to express their homophobic/racist views but nobody, nobody in the united States of America is allowed to respond to those views???
Gee,that's not really freedom of speech as envisioned by our founding fathers and enshrined in the Constitution.
It's like Seth Myers brilliant SNL observation "This week we learned you can judge a book by it's cover". Southern people just aren't as intelligent as the rest of America. This isn't a stereotype, it''s a fact. They're racist, homophobic, sexist uncultured, unsophisticated, backwoods rubes. It's not their fault, it's just their way.We should accept them and move on.
I have a link on my blog to ecodistricts and how they are to work. I put it up this morning as they originated in Portland, Oregon.
DC, Boston, Seattle, ATL, and San Fran are all pushing now. More likely in 2014. You might want to take a look a be on the lookout for your area becoming one without people recognizing what is involved with vision.
Off to the mall as Red has protested about how raggedy some of my jeans looked. Had dinner with a friend who is a stylist last night and she told me where to go find jeans for those of us who have left our GV swan insignia days long behind.
GV=Gloria Vanderbilt. rse, please try a pair of "Not Your Mom's Jeans" and give a report. :) The price tag has always stunned me,are they worth the price?
Christmas miracle,we didn't lose power 10 miles west of Bangor,or at the cabin, where hubby went this morning to check out the ice situation.
That's what might have led to the drinking, followed by the shrieks of "How dare you!" upon re-reading Steyn's jokes in the privacy of his darkened study for the third or forth time.
I don't know why, I figured that would be a little too touchy to ask the publisher. Maybe Christmas has something to do with it. They fired John Derbyshire - which I thought was dumb, but I really can't figure out who Steorts is having never heard of him before.
I'm thinking "big tent" - I would rather have him in ours supporting limited government policies and principals, than push him out because he is too passive and advocates a, shall we say, wimpy style.
Or does he actually advocate a nanny state/ ever bigger government and more Fed regulations picking crony winners and zillions of losers? I missed that if he did.
Same here. I'm going with he's a solid editor 90-95% of the time staying in the back office, and occasionally he writes a post somewhere. He's not setting policy or issuing endorsements for NR.
I did read somewhere he is fluent in Chinese, for whatever that is worth :)
"He's not setting policy or issuing endorsements for NR."
But he is employed by them and wrote (posted) on their letterhead, and that makes him more accountable to the basic mission and values of his employer than a simple guest writer or blogger would be. But for his employment, this would not have been news, and his employer would not be balancing incoming fire.
I learned this lesson a very hard way decades ago when we got sued when an employee got in a fight on our property while wearing our uniform, but on his day off while not on the clock for us. We lost.
Or does he actually advocate a nanny state/ ever bigger government and more Fed regulations picking crony winners and zillions of losers?
I don't know about that, but his column on Zimmerman that Narciso linked was pretty atrocious. I believe he's pro gay marriage for what it's worth. He writes quite a lot on the Corner:
Southern people just aren't as intelligent as the rest of America. This isn't a stereotype, it''s a fact. They're racist, homophobic, sexist uncultured, unsophisticated, backwoods rubes. It's not their fault, it's just their way.
I don't think he should be fired for expressing his ridiculous opinions. He certainly got himself (or at least his name) noticed and regular NRO readers will be on the lookout for any other writings from Mr. Steorts.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mark Steyn didn't politely request a different editor.
--more accountable to the basic mission and values of his employer than a simple guest writer or blogger would be. But for his employment, this would not have been news, and his employer would not be balancing incoming fire.--
I think the outpouring of posts from various NR writers, taking various tacks to substantiate support for Steyn, has been an unmitigated win for Steyn, NR, and conservatism. I also think Steorts has been held to account just fine.
If I were conspiracy minded, I would wonder how long they worked to set this up... it's set fire to more NR writers' prose than anything I've seen since ... well, I can't think of the last time they were so inspired and aggressive on a single issue.
--So right-wing Christians are allowed to express their homophobic/racist views but nobody, nobody in the united States of America is allowed to respond to those views???--
Aren't you the dipshit who praised freedom of speech and then proposed banning speech such as Phil Robertson's in the same dumbass comment a few days ago?
But southerners are the dorks. Right.
--Southern people just aren't as intelligent as the rest of America.--
Hate to tell you this knucklehead but there are millions upon millions of people born and raised in every state of the union who agree with what Phil Robertson said and we tend to have lots more kids than you self indulgent, panhandling bums.
Dumbass Phil has a masters degree. What's dumbassDave got besides a tin cup and a "won't work for food" sign?
"Southern people just aren't as intelligent as the rest of America. This isn't a stereotype, it''s a fact. They're racist, homophobic, sexist uncultured, unsophisticated, backwoods rubes. It's not their fault, it's just their way."
Says the fool who regularly posts his anal rape fantasies on the internet.
Go easy on dublindave, Ig. He's already told us that he trolls the interstate truck stops for extra cash sometimes, so it's not surprising that he'd be a little sensitive to Robertson's comments, especially about how women have more to offer.
"Be nice to Dudu - the era of Messiah-Obama is over. He's gotta be very depressed"
On the contrary- there were some very positive economic numbers released today showing that the economy is picking up steam. Cobble that with the feds recent action and it looks like we'll be reaching 6% unemployment rate right before the 2014 mid-terms.
This President will go down in history as the Democratic President who saved the United States economy and the previous goon will go down as the Republican President who destroyed it. This is reality.
Anyway, back in Homo-redneck-christian,republican-gate news....now we hear that Sarah "I can see Russia from my house" Palin, never actually read the article she so staunchly defended.
Bwahahahaahahahahahah!!!!! Christ on a pogo stick are u f'king kidding me???
Merry Christmas to all my friends at JOM. Stay safe and warm and remember that 'Jameson's' are the only whiskey distillers in the world who distill their whiskey 3 times-so stay away from that American crap this Chistmas.
Yeah but dudu, none of the good news has a thing to do with the golfer in chief. You know that. And you also know he will also be forever known as the worse president in history.
Frau, very cute!

Momma just walked back to the laundry room and discovered that my youngest daughter had left the soldering iron plugged in after working on some homemade electrical Christmas gift. So Momma is on the warpath now using some choice lingo, and me I'm shutting up and nodding along with her ("Uh huh, uh huh"), but secretly I'm proud as punch that my youngest daughter regularly uses a soldering iron:)

The daughter turned a love for fashioning jewelry into a side line and she gets lots of repeat orders from loyal customers. She uses Swarovsky almost exclusively and started with just earrings and now does earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She also does an occasional craft show or farmer's market locally and can net $400 in about 8 hours.
She also does a brisk business at the country club in tennis and golf themed jewelry. Some of the ladies have multiple identical items with the only variation being color to match their tennis/golf outfit du jour.

Alaska once again gets screwed by the Fed's:
The ADN reports that Obama's New Interior Secretary Sally Jewell on Monday rejected a proposed land swap with the state of Alaska to build a road through a remote Alaska national wildlife refuge that shelters millions of migratory waterfowl.
["In 2009, Congress approved a one-lane gravel road through just 206 acres of the 315,000-acre refuge in exchange for Alaska adding 60,000 (acres) of protected land." (Not yet accomplished 4 years later because Fish and Wildlife claimed the road would hurt vital habitat for grizzly bears, caribou, salmon, shorebirds and waterfowl).

And now it's a bad idea to Sally Jewel.

Which link is it, rse? I did the Ctrl F thing for ecodistricts but can't find it.

http://www.sustainableatlanta.org/pdf/ecodistricts_framework.pdf is it. I keep doing Christmas stuff and taking a break, but there it is.
Off to the mall as Red has protested about how raggedy some of my jeans looked. Had dinner with a friend who is a stylist last night and she told me where to go find jeans for those of us who have left our GV swan insignia days long behind.

"GV swan insignia"
Huh???
Posted by: Old Lurker | December 24, 2013 at 09:50 AM
Thanks, rse.

Steorts was not fired. (Just heard from the publisher)
Posted by: Jane | December 24, 2013 at 09:53 AM
Why not? Opportunity missed.
Posted by: Old Lurker | December 24, 2013 at 09:55 AM
I don't think Steorts should be fired, and I'm glad he was not.

Ha,I meant "Not Your Daughter's Jeans." We know who wears mom jeans.

I don't think he should be fired, either. But he should make a New Years resolution to stop drinking before posting to the NRO website.

I suspect it's more that he needs testosterone supplements.
Posted by: jimmyk | December 24, 2013 at 10:34 AM
That's what might have led to the drinking, followed by the shrieks of "How dare you!" upon re-reading Steyn's jokes in the privacy of his darkened study for the third or forth time.
Posted by: Extraneus | December 24, 2013 at 10:39 AM
I don't know why, I figured that would be a little too touchy to ask the publisher. Maybe Christmas has something to do with it. They fired John Derbyshire - which I thought was dumb, but I really can't figure out who Steorts is having never heard of him before.
Posted by: Jane | December 24, 2013 at 10:39 AM
I'm thinking "big tent" - I would rather have him in ours supporting limited government policies and principals, than push him out because he is too passive and advocates a, shall we say, wimpy style.
Or does he actually advocate a nanny state/ ever bigger government and more Fed regulations picking crony winners and zillions of losers? I missed that if he did.

--I really can't figure out who Steorts is--
Same here. I'm going with he's a solid editor 90-95% of the time staying in the back office, and occasionally he writes a post somewhere. He's not setting policy or issuing endorsements for NR.
I did read somewhere he is fluent in Chinese, for whatever that is worth :)
Posted by: AliceH | December 24, 2013 at 10:48 AM
"He's not setting policy or issuing endorsements for NR."
But he is employed by them and wrote (posted) on their letterhead, and that makes him more accountable to the basic mission and values of his employer than a simple guest writer or blogger would be. But for his employment, this would not have been news, and his employer would not be balancing incoming fire.
I learned this lesson a very hard way decades ago when we got sued when an employee got in a fight on our property while wearing our uniform, but on his day off while not on the clock for us. We lost.

I don't know about that, but his column on Zimmerman that Narciso linked was pretty atrocious. I believe he's pro gay marriage for what it's worth. He writes quite a lot on the Corner:

But I'm not in favor of firing him either.

Capri Cafaro is a mobbed up scrunt from Youngstown who is a younger version of Pelosi. I doubt that she even knew what was in the bill.
