Dave (in MA)

I don't think that's how it happens, Rick.

Stephanie

It appears that Ace, as only he can, will weigh in on the DD controversy tomorrow, when it is old news...

narciso,

Well at least two threads have been jacked on the subject, any deal with Patty Murray, heck do I even need to go further,

Ignatz

Ba da bing again, Dave.
You're on a roll.

Stephanie

I'm the weirdo, I guess, as I generally read Ace's front page and only go to the comments if it's a subject I want to see slattered in that AOS HQ approved way.

And just what the hell did I do to deserve ads for Cammo Onesies in the side bar???? ACK.

Account Deleted

Dave,

I sure wish I hadn't taken a drink of water while reading that.

Stephanie

Irony of ironies:

The top bar ad at Ace's is a screamer that says "your opinion matters" take a free survey. Should I take it as Phil Robertson? ;)

Captain Hate

The ewok has shown some growth on not getting hornswoggled by Top Men and Malor produced a post that Glenn Beck quoted approvingly. This is truly uncharted territory.

narciso,

That's true, Steph, but the Horde is interested in this subject, 'crossing the streams' mass hysteria next.

Captain Hate

I really think the ewok's posts have improved since they started having the podcasts.

narciso,

Which thread was it, Captain.

Beasts of England

Damn you Thai pad!

A&E needs the Duck Commanders more than the Duck Commanders need A&E. Don't worry, the Robertson's enterprises probably net more than A&E in toto.

Beasts of England

Just finished a great meal with my favorite customer who is in town. Saw the latest additions to his racing stable, including a badass Lola. He had photos and videos of him driving it around the incredible Circuit of the Americas out there in Porch-land. As the co-founder of Space-X, he can afford such indulgences. And to pay some car-whore consultant a very good rate. ;)

narciso,

Cool, Beasts,

jimmyk

Media jumping to biased goes way back: Around the JFK anniversary I watched CBS's coverage of the assassination on Youtube. There were at least a half dozen remarks about "right wingers" and "far right groups" and the like. Never any speculation that it could have been a commie, despite the Bay of Pigs and all the tension with Cuba and the Soviets. And it wasn't just Walter Cronkite. I'm sure if there was a Tea Party back then it would have been blamed.

narciso,

Surely and the Soviets knew this, and planned this dezinformatya accordingly,

Ignatz

Just exactly when did big ol' buck tooth nekkid arses become standard fair on regular old cable and satellite channels?

I'm flippin through the nightly vast wasteland and stop at TLFC, The Learning Frickin Channel at a show called Buying Naked. Some old derelict who thank goodness remains fully clothed takes her birthday suited clients to look for homes in clothing optional neighborhoods. There's no full frontal stuff but full dorsal shots are quite routine. When they caught some dude stretching before his run that was all she wrote for me, but I can imagine many a young runt is sneaking the show past his unsuspecting parents.

Ignatz

Didn't you know that the John Birch society had taken over the CCCP when Oswald visited jimmyk?
When he was arrested they found him wearing a Gadsden flag bandana he'd picked up in a Tea Party shop on Red Square.

Ignatz

--Saw the latest additions to his racing stable, including a badass Lola.--

Did he meet her in a club down in old Soho?

Stephanie

many a young rut is sneaking the show past his unsuspecting parents.

FTFY...

Irony of ironies would be DD buying A&E from WTFOTTW.

Beasts of England

I should have asked him that, Ig! lol

Stephanie

Just channel flipping after Megyn was back to where I started watching earlier and

Know what's on A&E right now? Guess who is featured prominently in this particular show?

Let's see what they do with the DD marathon that the viewers voted for their favorite shows to be showcased that is on tomorrow at 8.

BTW all you NR cruisers, there's a DD cruise this summer, but it's all sold out.

Gus

Jimmy, don't be foolish. JFK was killed because of that anti-Mohammad video. And WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT VIDEO!!

jimmyk

Didn't you know that the John Birch society had taken over the CCCP

Well, I figured that's why that Tea Partier Jack Ruby had to silence Oswald before he dropped the phony commie pretense and revealed his friendship with Goldwater and Buckley.

Ignatz

Last comment for the night is a question;
Is Target's Christmas ad budget this year a finite number?

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

I am continually amazed that people are amazed a conservative Christian believes homosexuality is a sin.

Exactly, Sue.
This is part of the problem - http://newsbusters.org/blogs/ken-shepherd/2013/12/18/video-journalist-panel-admits-obvious-media-lean-left-exist-their-echo

More than one panelist opined that it's not just that journalists tend to be liberal on policy questions but that they live and work in environments which are socially liberal. "I live in northwest Washington, none of my neighbors are evangelical Christians [and] I don't know a lot of people in my kid's preschool who are pro-life," New York Times writer Mark Leibovich noted. Fellow Washington, D.C.-based journalist Jake Tapper picked up on that thread:

"A certain type of person becomes a reporter, and generally speaking... the kind of person who is a reporter in Washington, D.C., or New York City has never worked a minimum-wage job outside of high-school... has never experienced poverty, is not an evangelical Christian, like much of the country is.

There are a lot of experiences that the kinds of people who are reporters, editors, producers, etc., in Washington, D.C., and New York City have not had."

You're right Alice H, we need to keep up the voting, Number 8 seems to be picking up some votes, we need to stay ahead of them.

Janet: A nice tie-in to your comment above quoting the DC journalists: Take This Town and Shove It.

Written by Sam Youngman, who left DC/NY journalism to return home to Kentucky and work for a local newspaper. The scales seem to be falling from his eyes.

A small sample of Real World vs. This Town:

At least once a week, I hear conventional wisdom from D.C. or New York upended by words directly from the mouths of a Kentucky voter. Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes’s campaign is described as strong nationally, but it looks like a hot mess up close. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), often mocked by cable news, is cheered and encouraged to run for president at small restaurants in impoverished mountain towns throughout Eastern Kentucky
.

Yikes - I had completely forgotten - just voted too!

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

a bit of a comment from FB - "...The crazy thing is, I never would have even known about the magazine article. And, I'm sure there are thousands and thousands of others that would never have known about it either. What was it? GQ.....Who reads that?
Probably not the people who watch Duck Dynasty!!"

Captain Hate

A certain type of person becomes a reporter, and generally speaking... the kind of person who is a reporter in Washington, D.C., or New York City has never worked a minimum-wage job outside of high-school... has never experienced poverty, is not an evangelical Christian, like much of the country is.

You would think that at least a few of the members of the profession who take inordinate pride in thinking of themselves as incredible smarty pants would look at that and see a problem. Except for sbw I haven't seen any evidence of that.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Thanks for the link AliceH, I've voted so often I am seeing repeat anti-spam number combos.

NK(withnewsoftware)

CaptH-- as Glenn Reynolds says, those journos don't see it as a problem, they see it.....

Miss Marple

Captain Hate,

I used to talk to Rick Klein all the time about this. I reminded from time to timehim that his family was going to suffer with the national debt, that national security affects all of us, that he needed to get outside the Beltway and talk to people.

He is always very polite and does answer, but it is impossible for him to understand that the world he is in is isolated.

centralcal

Captain, NK - you might enjoy Sam Youngman's article. Another excerpt from the opening paragraphs:

If you write about American politics for a living, stop right there. Get back to work, and don’t read another damn word.

Sign out of Twitter, say “thanks but no thanks” to a dayside cable hit, get off your ass, go outside and listen to folks beyond the same 200 know-it-alls in Washington and New York who share your affinity for snark, views on Game of Thrones and predictions for next year’s Senate race in a state only a handful of you have ever set foot in.

The 140-character slap-fight you’re in the middle of with another reporter who has never worked for minimum wage is eating up time that I’m begging you to use trying to win back credibility with a country that desperately needs us to spend more time listening and less time talking.

You might have to look it up, but find humility. A quick glance at the poll numbers for how much Americans trust their media or a two-minute conversation with a voter should do the trick. Remember why you do this for a living.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

This is interesting too - http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/tgc/2013/12/18/duck-dynasty-star-fired-over-remarks-on-homosexuality/

"Why It Matters: Earlier this week state Senate Democrats in New Jersey pulled from consideration a bill that would write gay marriage, already legal in New Jersey by court order, into the law books. The reason: the bill contained religious exemptions. Loretta Weinberg, the Senate Majority Leader, said she pulled the bill after pressure from an LGBTQ legal group, Lambda Legal.

"They don't want any kind of religious exemption, so out of respect for that, I will (pull the bill)," Weinberg said. "There's a disparate group of people and it's hard to follow what they want, so I'm following Lambda Legal."

The decision by New Jersey Democrats and A&E are similar. When pressured by LGBTQ groups, organizations and politicians will choose to silence Christians who oppose the normalization of homosexual behavior."

Extraneus

I think they're particularly incensed at the DD guy because he described what they actually do, and that's obviously a no-no. You can't celebrate anuses.

Marlene

The Duck Dynasty marathon is still on A&E's schedule tonight. What are they going to do? Spend all day editing Phil from each episode? We've watched a few episodes and I think my favorite is the episode when the granddaughters ask their grandfather to make their playhouse into a duck blind. Very cute.

Miss Marple

Janet,

This highlights my objection to gay marriage laws. It isn't that I particularly care what they do, it's that I am positive that as soon as it passes they will attempt to force the Catholic Church to have gay marriage masses.

This is about forcing the church to bow to the will of the state. Gay marriage is just the vehicle.

MM,the isn't the baker who refused to make a gay marriage wedding cake in big legal trouble?
We have a family member who came out as gay a few years ago. This person was apolitical to the point of being a LIV. The partner is vocal about discrimination, rights, equality, blah, blah. We know these people well enough that we can agree to disagree. In fact,we told them that they are the ones with all the rights,so don't complain.

...and Extraneus's point @ 8:22 is good. That old Zombie post showing some of the street fairs & parades in SF was really something. Very sad. They weren't people celebrating sexual freedom....they were sad images of sexual addictions & depravity. The users & the used.
If the lifestyle is so wonderful...where are those pictures on the nightly "news"?

Reporters not only need to get out & see & experience the American culture they are trying to destroy....but they need to get out & see & experience the real lifestyles & cultures they are promoting. They have no idea.

I wish we would jump on this Podesta "Jonestown Cult" comment with the vehemence that the Left does when it attacks the Palin's or the Megyn Kelly's or the Ted Cruzes etc.

Any Repub who said something so noxious would be continually damned, demonized and shunned, yet when I read Boehner's Office's comments as reported in The Hill, all I get is this bit of non-specifics: “For those who’ve forgotten, a Democratic member of Congress was murdered in Jonestown and a current one, Rep. Jackie Speier, was shot five times during the same incident,” Buck said. “If this is the attitude of the new White House, it’s hard to see how the president gets anything done again,” he continued.

This angers me.

Our pushback comments should be personalized at Podesta and it ought to be out of Boehner's mouth, and very specifically damning John Podesta as the creep that he is for saying this despicable stuff, and we should honestly tar him with his own words as Martin Bashier was ultimately tarred with his own words. We should legitimately attack Podesta specifically so that he is as stench-laden as Bashir, and is therefore a person the Left is driven to want to distance themselves from.

Instead what I am seeing from Boehner's Office is that we are playing softball once again, by saying non-descript comments such as “For those who’ve forgotten", and “If this is the attitude of the new White House," etc.

There is a time for such innocuous, vanilla statements, but this ain't it.

The lack of our side in being specific and damning Podesta personally for his comments, allows him to get away with an offhand pseudo-apology "my snark got in front of my judgment", and he is therefore able to rejoice in having accomplished his task of putting the meme of "Conservatives as Jonestown Cult members" out there in the public's mind, and he remains enabled to act effectively in his new position as Team Obama's hatchet man going forward.

I am glad to see there is pushback such as this: Rep. Scalise Calls for Obama to Fire Podesta 'Immediately' for 'Jonestown' Comparison, but that ought to be coming out of the mouth of Boehner instead of out of the mouth of some back bencher.

My 2 cents.

Governor Jindal weighs in!

BATON ROUGE – Governor Bobby Jindal issued a statement this morning following the news of Phil Robertson being suspended by A&E from the show Duck Dynasty.

Governor Jindal said, “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended "

From daddy's 9:03 quoting the pathetic Boehner office response to Podesta's vicious slander, this is the worst statement of the lot:

“If this is the attitude of the new White House, it’s hard to see how the president gets anything done again,” he continued.

That's been the attitude of the White House since before Obama was elected the first time! And it hasn't changed one bit in five freaking years! Do Boehner & co. not actually pay attention to the MSM at all?

"Bitter clingers."

"Hostage takers."

"Suicide bombers."

"A gun to the head."

"Their fever will break."

"I won."

and on and on and on and freaking ON!

Speaker Boehner, the White House has utter contempt for you - and for the voters who put you and your House majority into office, and it has had for five years! Grow the f**k up and start facing reality, and punching back! Or step down and let someone else, who will do those things, take your place.

But he won't, because he has nearly as much contempt for the voters who put him in office as Obama & co. do.

Gallup: "Seventy-two percent of Americans say big government is a greater threat to the U.S. in the future than is big business or big labor, a record high in the nearly 50-year history of this question. The prior high for big government was 65% in 1999 and 2000. Big government has always topped big business and big labor, including in the initial asking in 1965, but just 35% named it at that time."

It is way beyond time to start demanding the left answer some tough, pointed questions about their belief system.
If marriage can be redefined...then why can't it be redefined to include polygamy or marriage to animals or marriage to kids?
Make them answer.

Where do they get their standards for right & wrong?
Make them answer.

Exactly when is it unlawful to kill a baby?
Make them answer.

What is the "correct" global climate & who decided that was the "correct" one?
Make them answer.

They get away with emotional "nice" sounding fluff...& never have to explain their foundational beliefs. Choice!, Embrace Love!, Save the Earth!

A person might disagree with Bible believing Christians, pro-lifers, or AGW skeptics....but at least you can know where they are coming from & their foundational beliefs.

narciso's link @ 9:15 is pretty angry-making, too. Karl Rove can just STFU as far as I'm concerned.

The NSA’s ability to track terrorist activity will require more than a successful appeal of Judge Leon’s decision to survive. The public needs to be reminded how vital—and constitutional—these efforts are to protecting America from terrorist attacks. That hasn’t happened much recently.<.i>

Well, maybe if all these programs actually DID prevent terrorist attacks, there might be some value to it.

But when the Tsarnev brothers do everything but hang a flashing neon sign on their house reading "Terror Attack in Progress - Do Not Disturb!" and our so-called defenders do nothing, or when Nidal Hasan spends a year posting on ILoveJihad dot com and the FBI intercepts emails where he's asking Al Qaeda advisors about the practicalities of money-laundering, and how many innocents it's acceptable to kill in a suicide bombing, and, again, do nothing...

Well, us citizens who quaintly believe in the 4th Amendment might wonder whether the NSA (and other government agencies) really ought to be able to monitor and store all of our electronic communications, forever.

As I said, Rove can just STFU.

Sorry, I guess I'm in a ranty mood this morning.

If A&E can "suspend" Phil Robertson doesn't that mean there is a legal contract between the family and the network or production company? It would be interesting to know if free speech is a limitation in the contract or whether the Robertson's can break it.

There are probably plenty of cable channels out there that would die to have an audience of 9+ million plus the commerical spin-offs.
