Captain Hate

Since everybody else is weighing in on this dust up, the most bothersome thing to me is that both enjoyed their one real world encounter and that DoT said, iirc, that nothing would change the friendship that emerged from it. Well something obviously did and I wish both would put it aside and remember what's really important.

centralcal

Good Morning! Merry Christmas Day to all my JOM friends.

Not gonna take any sides in the male wars, but I will say that I hold DoT (who I first met here as Other Tom) and Iggy (known to me once as Barney Frank) in the highest regard and have much affection for them both.

God rest ye, merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay...

So, try to put the past year aside dear fellows, with tidings of comfort and joy.

Happy and healthy Christmas to all here at JOM. And many thanks to our host and the rest of the family Maguire.

BTW the town in which the Maguires reside had a delightful dusting of snow Christmas Eve at about 900 PM.

Well, its bright, sunny, and nippy here on Florida's First Coast.

Though I try to stay out of it, I second what ext, CH, and cc say. Or maybe that should be "fourth," not second. I wish the two could have a beer summit and agree to disagree and not make it personal, but I don't let it get in the way of my enjoyment of this place, or even of my regard for each separately, though I've only had the pleasure of meeting DoT.

Merry Christmas! Snow outside, wood burning in the fireplace here.

Egypt declares Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group

CAIRO – Egypt's military-backed interim government on Wednesday declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, criminalizing all its activities, its financing and even membership to the group from which the country's ousted president hails.

The announcement is a dramatic escalation of the fight between the government and group, which has waged near-daily protests since the July 3 popularly backed military coup that toppled President Mohammed Morsi.

Here is a bit from a Soylent post on Dec. 24,2010 -

"Finally, being away from all of the hustle and bustle and things that go along with Christmas has sort of channeled all of my attention into the meaning behind the holiday. Just like I'm here in a cruddy place, away from my family, to do a nasty and thankless, but necessary job, I'm just a shadow of Someone who did the same thing for me, starting from the day He was born. I'm going to spend more time trying to live up to the gift I've been given."

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking
How we need to hear from God
You've been promised, we've been waiting

Welcome Holy Child
Welcome Holy Child

Hope that you don't mind our manger
How I wish we would have known
But long-awaited Holy Stranger
Make Yourself at home
Please make Yourself at home
Bring Your peace into our violence
Bid our hungry souls be filled
Word now breaking Heaven's silence

Welcome to our world
Welcome to our world

Fragile finger sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born
Unto us is born
So wrap our injured flesh around You
Breathe our air and walk our sod
Rob our sin and make us holy

Perfect Son of God
Perfect Son of God
Welcome to our world

Heard the best words the mom of a 20-something male can hear on Christmas AM--"I needed a new polo shirt." And he meant it.

The flares rest hardware had as stocking stuffers were a big hit too. If like me you have kids who sometimes drive alone, that might be a good place to hit tomorrow.

sbw-Red likes Pol Roger because she knows it was Winston's favorite.

I don't recall your doing that, nor do I recall ever using the term. If I did, I retract it here and now.

A while back there were a series of extremely vulgar posts directed at you and your late wife. I made what I thought was the suggestion that if you ignored them they would soon go away. You understood me to be referring to trolls in general, and that set you off. I regret the misunderstanding.

If you're referring to our agreement, IIRC that was brought about by my and others responding to WeeDavey, hence the principal terms of the agreement being I wouldn't respond to DubDave and you wouldn't respond to Dana.

The agreement had nothing to do with Anne. Anne is so disturbed it's almost unfair to call him a troll anymore than the Luciferian and why I usually ignore him. Occasionally I like to try and pierce his corporate veil of sock puppets to see if reality can be induced to intrude via my invitation for a visit, but apparently it's a hopeless cause.

I hope to give up hopeless causes going forward. :)

Hey! Don't these sailors understand 'personal responsibility'?

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-12-21/us-sailors-assisting-fukushima-clean-crippled-cancer

Back in December 2012, we wrote that it was only a matter of time before Japan's criminal lying about the radioactive exposure in the aftermath of the Fukushima catastrophe caught up with it, as well as with countless numbers of people who would soon succumb to radiation induced cancers and other diseases. What we found surprising back then, before the full scale of the Fukushima catastrophe become clear and before even Tepco admitted that the situation is completely out of control, is that those holding Japan accountable were not its own citizens but eight US sailors who have then filed a suit against semi-nationalized energy operator TEPCO - the company which repeatedly ignored internal warnings about the ability of the Fukushima NPP to withstand an earthquake/tsunami - seeking $110 million in damages.

Hi Dana, you left out a few bits...

The plaintiffs don't blame the U.S. Navy, which they believe acted in good faith, Bonner said. It was the plant's operators who sat on the meltdown information during the crucial hours following the March 11, 2011 disaster, he said.

“TEPCO pursued a policy which caused rescuers, including the plaintiffs, to rush into an unsafe area which was too close to the [Fukushima nuclear power plant] that had been damaged,” Bonner charged in an April filing now being updated to add more plaintiffs. “Relying upon the misrepresentation regarding health and safety made by TEPCO, upon information and belief, the U.S. Navy was lulled into a false sense of security.

Mine was a 16-year-old Lagavalin Single Malt, which I recommend highly.

Speaking of great Single Malt Scotches, if you are a female between 25 and 40, can speak Japanese and sing Scottish tunes, have I got an opportunity for you!

For first time, NHK seeks Caucasian actress to star in morning drama

It will be the first time the broadcaster will have a non-Japanese play the female lead in the legendary 15-minute time slot that starts at 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday, NHK spokeswoman Kaori Fujieda said in Osaka.

The upcoming series will be titled “Massan,” and will be about a Scottish woman who married a Japanese trying to start a whiskey distillery during the Taisho Era early in the 20th century.

Off to try out my new pants for a quick spin around the block!

The drama will be based on the life of Masataka Taketsuru, the pioneering whiskey maker from Hiroshima Prefecture who strove to make the first Japanese whiskey at what is now Suntory Holdings Ltd. in Kyoto and later founded what is now Nikka Whisky Distilling Co.

The son of a sake brewer, Taketsuru went to Scotland in 1918 to study the art of how to make whiskey. There he met the love of his life, Jessie Roberta Cowan, known as Rita, who accompanied him back to Japan and provided him with vital support in his endeavors, according to his biography on the Nikka Whisky website.

I'll drink to that!
