JIB

TM's getting all these threads up and out of the way in anticipation of a skiiing vacation.

BTW, its official David Shaw will be the new Redskins coach.

How do I know?

Because he is denying it.

Isn't that the way it always works?

MarkO

Good. A new a better way to spell "eagerly."

NK(withnewsoftware)

JiB-- Deadskins could do a lot worse than Shaw IMO ... wait.. they did, Shanahan was an absolute debacle.

Ski Trip-- according to my wife-- remember her?, she went off skiing with her bros and sisses and left me to move my daughter into her Bronx apartment New Year's Day and assemble the Ikea gear-- Stowe was delightful through sunday (no Toll House lift though) but it rained sunday night, and froze this am, no skiing today. -12F tonight. That's your Vermont ski report.

JIB

Florida ski report: Great but you need a boat.

Old Lurker

We are more interested in your Ikea assembly report NK. If it goes well, we are sending you down to help with Clarice's mother's stuff.

matt

SoCal ski report; 78 and balmy

henry

WI ski report; 7, lots of snow, trails open, snowmobile parking at most taverns.

>>>Shanahan was an absolute debacle.<<<

Norv Turner (1999-2000)
Terry Robiskie (2000)
Marty Schottenheimer (2001)
Steve Spurrier (2002-2003)
Joe Gibbs (2004-2007)
Jim Zorn (2008-2009)
Mike Shanahan (2010-2013)

maybe Snyder should consider selling the team...

NK(withnewsoftware)

OL-- I can state without fear of contradiction that L'Affaire Ikea, "Mission the Bronx.... This Time it's Personal" will not "go well". There will be swearing and tool throwing.. then I'll ask my daughter to calm down.

On a lighter note, she tells me today that she's lined up her 'ex boyfriend' to help move stuff into the apartment when she and her roomies go there tomorrow afternoon. It's like a cat and trapped mouse. Just pathetic... as it should be.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Deadskins List-- Wow. Honestly, Marty S may have been the least worst. Jeez.

rich@gmu

I'd give you a hand NK if I were close, just for the entertainment value. My prayers.

peter

If TM goes on a trip, we should have a thread reserved as a backup .
one about exercise?

rich@gmu

Gibbs couldn't turn it around. You know 3 Super Bowls.

Snyder would make a healthy profit selling them.

Captain Hate

Since 1992 the Redskins have made the post season four times. Shanahan had one of those so he's not nearly the disaster that Spurrier, Schottenheimer and Zorn were, just to name three.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Shanahan-- but the expectations were very different. Even I was shocked that Shanahan turned out to be a John Elway Golden Arm empty suit. What a disappointment he was.

pagar

Redskins!

"Washington grocery-store chain to ban red-skinned potatoes to avoid offending overly-sensitive, white Liberals"

NK(withnewsoftware)

Exercise and healthy eating... that thread will stoke everyone up for the new year. Call the thread "CrossFit or Zumba? JOMers Want to Know"

rich@gmu

how does the zumba instructor look?

Captain Hate

Shanahan deserves a lot of blame for this season but the Skins are far from a solid team and a lot of it has been caused by Snyder's meddling with the team in the past. Also, taking a cap hit for deals which were made when the collective bargaining contract expired, all of which were reported to the league office and approved, set them back from building the team with free agents in the past off season.

Old Lurker

New Year? Mrs. OL is already calling January "Detox Month"...I don't like the sound of that at all.

JIB

rich,

Who'd he sell them to? GCI? Patton, Boggs? GE? NBC?

JIB

CH,

Yeah, I have to give Mike credit for mentioning the salary cap fiasco in his departing presser. That is a damn hard limitation in the NFL to build a team, especially the free agent market. More Goodnell ball. Probably an extra bathroom in the Maine mansion as a result.

NK(withnewsoftware)

JiB-- Comcast cronies, wait that is NBC.

OL-- I thought I had problems. She'll have to pry your cold dead hands of your liquor cabinet doors. HEH!!

narciso,

You have American football confused with British soccer.

Captain Hate

JiB, Goodell never gets off the hook for that penalty for violating a non-existent salary cap. If Snyder had done them in secret, I'd be inclined to cut the commish a lot of slack; but when I found out all of them had been approved by pudgy Roger's in-house drones, it was WTF territory. Terrible excuse for a commissioner.

Danube on iPad

I detest Shanahan, but if Snyder welshes on his contract I hope he'll sue and get punitive damages. If you want a good look at what it's like dealing with Snyder, read Brian Billick's "Next Man Up."

Sue

Great idea! Jerry sells the Cowboys and buys the Redskins. Who's with me?

rich@gmu

and speaking of Exercise and healthy eating seems that Maria Kang (hot facebook mom) has a calander and a nonprofit and other interests...too bad she isn't a zumba instructor.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Tech = ACC, No?

rich@gmu

you can keep Jerry. How about Joe Gibbs? Larry Ellison? George Soros?

Extraneus

I detest Shanahan

I'm not proud to say this, since I hardly even know who he is, but if there's one person in the world whose face I'd like to punch just from looking at him, it's Mike Shanahan.

They should pay him to put his face on this guy.

rich@gmu

yes. Tech-> ACC. Ole Miss->SEC.

Sue

I DON'T WANT JERRY. . . oh, sorry, didn't mean to yell.

Leader of trapped team insists polar ice is melting

The leader of a scientific expedition whose ship remains stranded in Antarctic ice says the team, which set out to prove climate change, is "stuck in our own experiment."

But Chris Turney, a professor of climate change at Australia’s University of New South Wales, said it was “silly” to suggest he and 73 others aboard the MV Akademic Shokalskiy were trapped in ice they’d sought to prove had melted. He remained adamant that sea ice is melting, even as the boat remained trapped in frozen seas.

holy shit already

"He remained adamant that sea ice is melting, even as the boat remained trapped in frozen seas."

Yeah, because the presence of ice leads to Scotch on the rocks.

And radiation from Fuke just keeps our veggies bacteria-free.

rich@gmu

I wish...maybe wheel over and ask for some fitness tips, you know with the new year and all...see if she has a hot sister.

rich@gmu

Sorry Sue. 3 straight seasons...3 straight game losing interceptions. ouch. (but at least you'd had something to cheer for, the skins went 0-8 down the stretch, benched their best player, and their #2 draft pick is off to the Rams. Maybe Snyder can enlist himself as coach and install Krusty the Clown as GM).

NYT editor defiant on Benghazi report amid lawmaker criticism

"For anyone wondering why it's so important to Republicans that Al Qaeda orchestrated the attack -- or how the Obama administration described the attack in its immediate aftermath -- the answer is simple. The Republicans hope to tarnish Democratic candidates by making it seem as though Mr. Obama doesn't take Al Qaeda seriously," he wrote. "They also want to throw mud at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who they fear will run for president in 2016."

Rosenthal also described as "hilarious" the suggestion that the article was meant to give Clinton a boost in 2016. "Since I will have more to say about which candidate we will endorse in 2016 than any other editor at the Times, let me be clear: We have not chosen Mrs. Clinton. We haven't chosen anyone. I can also state definitively that there was no editorial/newsroom conspiracy of any kind, because I knew nothing about the Benghazi investigation article until I read it in the paper on Sunday," he wrote.

Heh.

A hint that all might not be well in two of the Workers' Paradises:

"'Over the last 12 months some 3,000 Cubans, mostly doctors, have arrived in the United States after deserting one of the Venezuelan government´s social programs they staff. This accounts for a 60% increase as compared with 2012. In 2012 there were about 5,000 refugee Cuban doctors and nurses in the United States coming from all over the world. Through December 1, 2013 this figure had surged to 8,000, 98% of them came from Venezuela."

Venezuela is spiraling out of control. Maduro never had it is losing whatever remained of a functional economy and government.

What is interesting about the NYT blowback is that they are so incredibly sensitive to the criticism. It must have really hit a nerve.

The body of reporting well establishes the timelines and links, and the fact that one of the masterminds is still walking around Benghazi speaks volumes about an administration that is both woefully incompetent and evil by nature.

JIB

MarkO,

MSNBC finds it amusing that there are any black grandchildren after Gosnell. Pretty pathetic.

The list of coaches for the 'Skins is not the problem. It is the fault of the owner who doesn't really know how to hire the right person. He has had coaches who have succeeded in other places.

But if the boss doesn't really know what he wants, or if what he wants is to meddle, then it doesn't matter who he hires.

What is interesting about the NYT blowback is that they are so incredibly sensitive to the criticism. It must have really hit a nerve.

They've chosen to repeat a lie which every previous person advancing it was ridiculed into shutting up about it by how foolish it made them look. Why Carlo's compromised chimps thought they had a wellspring of credibility to justify repeating this garbage is anybody's guess; but they obviously figured incorrectly.
