He'd gain less votes then Guiliani, because the former was a real hawk, against enemies, besides his prosecutorial and managerial experience,

NK(withnewsoftware)

IMO Christie would get equivalent votes as Rudy G, but the same result, not a factor in the primaries.

dublindave

It's great watching Republicans melt down over Christie inadvertently killing an old lady and destroying his Presidential ambitions, heh heh heh......I think 'Benghazi' has gone from being a dreamed up scandal to a safe happy place to hide in times of stress and insecurity.....Benghazi,Benghazi,Benghazi....

It's a closet for some, under the bed for others, but it is a safe place to hide from the real world.

Benghazi is the new Birtherism.

Speaking of 2016-- I saw some comments over the weekend by 77yo Bruce Dern. Who knows with celebrities but he had very kind things to say about why 'flyover country' is the best part of America. The Midwest is the new black.

NK(withnewsoftware)

@12:45-- the shark is detonated by a thermonuclear device. The Soros trained dweebs have been ordered to mock Benghazi 24/7, Soros knows the Benghazi Lies doom his pantsuit puppet HildaBeast.

narciso

I don't figure he was stupid enough to be directly involved, but aides get a certain notion of what's acceptable and what not,

then again we had a local mayor who was on the take from people he thought were lobbyists, was using the police towing authority, as his personal motorcade, and had no fewer then three family members on the city council

Extraneus

Why did Cory Booker get a special election held in October rather than have to wait until November to be on the same ticket as Christie's gubernatorial opponent, or until 2014 to run against a Republican incumbent appointed by Christie to fill out the entire remainder of Lautenberg's term?

F* Christie.

I guess you could use the imaginary scandal of Benghazi against Hillary Clinton, like you did against President Obama

It's a powerful political tool.

DD should be crying not cheering because Christie as the Republican candidate guarantees the base stays home on voting day just like it did with Romney. Same goes for any other other RINO candidate.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Bad source: Mitt didn't make Benghazi an issue out of caution because he didn't know enough facts by October 2012 to aggressively attack Obummer.

Now that we know that Hildabeast lied out of her fatass in front of the Flag Draped Coffins, and now that we have the honored dead's mother is ready to shoot 30 second promos of how HildaBeast failed to give her son the resources he needed to protect the consulate, and then lied about that failure, and now that we know that Obummer will kill hundreds of US military in Afghanistan with no intent of allowing them to win victory-- the political equivalent of murder, Soros knows that it will kill HildaBeast. That's why he pays trolls a couple of bucks a comment to call Benghazi 'Birtherism.'

matt

I may not agree with Christie, but I respect him. Being a politician sucks. Most people hate you regardless of party. Christie is in one of the most liberal states in the country as a Republican. He has done an outstanding job.

He is by no means a social conservative, but we could do a hell of a lot worse. Bob Dole anyone? John McCain? I love GWB personally but a lot of his policies sucked. At least Christie is honest about who he is.

Christie has made his deals with the devil because he had to for the greater good of New Jersey.

We are going to need every ally possible to remedy the complete botch that Obama has created. The federal bureaucracy is now openly at war with fiscal restraint and anything that smells of conservatism, or for that matter the American people.

Two lanes were closed for 4 days in a puerile hissy fit and now a man's career is destroyed. And conservatives are laughing? Really?

Obama has destroyed more of this country's assets than any one of his predecessors. I don't care if the candidate wears a pink tutu if they are a decent person and have strong values and can help right this sinking ship.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

I agree, JoJo. I can't stand Christie & will not vote for him if he is the Republican candidate.
...but I enjoy comparing how the MFM treat Christie vs. Obama (or any Dem.)

Extraneus

I agree with Matt at 1:04, particularly the penultimate graph.

JoJo

I hope to hell the next Republican president does better than BOzo.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Booker wins by a bigger margin in November, and Christie by a somewhat smaller margin. That accomplishes what exactly?

JoJo

Booker to the Senate was for the greater good of Christie.

It saves money, for the greater good of New Jersey, for one thing. And the timing of the election was all in his hands. He could have appointed a successor to Lautenberg that served until the 2014 election. Why didn't he?

Because Chris Christie.

narciso

Extraneus

Booker might have lost in November, besides. Except possibly for the fact that Christie refused to campaign with Lonegan.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Saves money? fair point--
but I don't think 11/14 was an option under NJ election law. It was either 11/13 regular election or a special election. Have to check.

Here is a fun little quiz to determine how conservative v. liberal you are (caveat it is by Time).

So my results were: 68% conservative

My answers deemed to be liberal were that I preferred the Met to Times Square, I was okay with fusion cuisine, I used a "modern" browser (Firefox - lol!) and I liked documentaries over action movies.

That's it! Those answers made me 32% liberal.

What a hoot.

Extraneus

And let's not forget the Dem chikanery that led to Lautenberg's election, after the Torch self-torched. It would have been payback for that seat to go to a Republican.

Not so good for Christie, though. Too partisan.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Christie's priority was Christie winning big in November. I doubt even Christie would deny that. But with the benefit of hindsight, the odd Oct Special election date, made turnout so low, the Senate Election % were far closer than any poll.

narciso

A little perspective;

now he has abet by inaction or cooperation, many administration schemes, maybe he will get a clue.

Extraneus

.

DrJ

CC, I'm 42% liberal by that quiz, which I think is rather silly. Liberals use modern browsers and conservatives don't? In what universe?

Beasts of England

40% liberal. What's wrong with the Met?

DrJ

No idea, beasts. I think the quiz is more a reflection of Time's strange view of what a conservative or a liberal is.

henry

Dumb quiz, puts me at 46% liberal. Obeying authority seems to be the do what the government says prog / fascist line, not a freedom related thing at all (King George did not want the tea dumped into Boston Harbor). I don't think the authors ever met a conservative.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

Remember when Obama gave a long press conference & Q&A session about -

JoJo

Janet, the Democrats will destroy any Republican they can at first opportunity. That's why its stupid to play nice with them and hug their presidential candidates during heated presidential campaigns.

Here's an awful screen grab of Christie coming in to his presser. He has lost weight.

Christie

matt

Booker will likely implode. There are some nasty things coming out now and he's another freakin incompetent with close ties to the administration.

I was at a local meeting last night, just a small group of us, and two people, one of them very Democrat, mentioned that their health insurance had risen so high they had to drop it. The dem said he had ongoing medical issues. This same scenario is playing out across the country in millions of homes.

How do you think voters are going to react this Fall? Scandal after scandal and now Obamacare, the greatest of them all.

I think by next year Obama is going to be down in the bunker with the Rat and Michelle if she's still around as the heavy artillery hits all around him.

His own people are whispering about the complete incompetence and his inability to govern. Gates just dropped a MOAB. This isn't going to go away.

Shit has gotten real, as they say on the street.

The Republicans have to wire it tight and not let people like Angle and O'Donnell or Akin become the focus of the attack dogs. Christie, whether you like him or not, is exactly the kind of campaigner we will need.

This is the last stand for America I believe, and I have had to hold my nose a number of times over the years and will do so again if he can stop the rot.

Sandy Thurzdaze

You think kids should question authority
You use a modern browser
You prefer the Met to Times Square

35% liberal because of those (above) "liberal qualities"

Win The Future !

matt

well I'm 58% conservative according to them.

The arrogance in appropriating an appreciation of the arts and culture to the Left is pretty apparent.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Matt-- I wouldn't support Christie in primaries because while he would fight against HildaBeast, the substance of his campaign would be too much 'me tooism' but better. How does a Repub man beat a Dem woman with that? (OK-- and old fat ugly Dem woman) I think the Rupubs need to nominate an attractive clear conservative governor, with a track record of success, and with a female running mate, who has an edge to take on the Feministas. Neither one is Christie-- I do think he would be a great Atty Gen going after the corrupt public unions.

jorad

Most of you blogging from workstations? Just curious.

If our side doesn't get one of the 3 networks and a major paper soon, we're extinct.

Thomas Collins

Here are my results:

Liberal

•You have a messy desk
•You think it's okay for your partner to look at porn alone

Conservative
•You like dogs more than cats
•You prefer action movies to documentaries
•You think kids should respect authority
•You think self-control trumps self-expression
•You're not wild about fusion cuisine
•You think the government should treat the lives of its citizens as much more valuable than those of other countries
•You use Internet Explorer
•You think the world benefits from nations and borders
•You prefer Times Square to the Met
•You're proud of your country's history

Thomas Collins

Some of the questions are really silly. For example, a country the citizens of which have trouble with self-control will not be able to protect self-expression.

bgates

Christie, whether you like him or not, is exactly the kind of campaigner we will need.

The kind whose greatest strength (assertiveness) can be painted as a weakness (belligerence) which has now been crystallized in a scandal.

I don't care if the candidate wears a pink tutu if he is a decent person and has strong values and can help right this sinking ship.

Interfering with traffic to cause minor harm to the residents of a locality which generally favored a political opponent* tells me more about his decency than his wardrobe. Maybe you'd care to explain why for you it's the other way around.

*Wordy, but just saying "hurt Democrat voters" hides the fact that even if it's an 80/20 town, he's still hurting some of his own supporters.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

If our side doesn't get one of the 3 networks and a major paper soon, we're extinct.

I agree. We need a Spanish language channel too.

NK(withnewsoftware)

What evidence is there that Christie ordered the Port Authority dweebs to move the cones for 4 days?

Thomas Collins

Some of the descriptions are also silly. For example, the fact that I don't give a second class rat's petudie about some new trendy fusion eatery opening up doesn't necessarily mean I'm not wild about fusion cuisine. When I want fusion, I'll figure out a place to try, trendy or not, new or not.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

at Instapundit - TAXPROF: The IRS Scandal, Day 245.

Maybe all rightly so...but it's happenin' quick. No "DAY 245" for Christie.

Sure. Now will you condemn Lois Lerner?

wish in one hand

boricuafudd

My two cents on this matter. As scandals go, this ranks very low in my opinion.

Unless things have drastically changed, the PA is the culprit here, as they will do as they want. As I remember it, governors on both sides and cities have butt heads with the PA for the longest. Bottom line is that the PA will do as they want, regardless of what the governors of NY or NJ tell them.

The PA have made much worse decisions to the howls of the people in NY and NJ without this much scrutiny. If this was done at the behest of some in Christie's staff, and they got caught, they will pay with their jobs. It still is a minor issue that has been blown out of proportion because of politics that have nothing to do with the actual inconvenience or damage that was done.

I do hope a Conservative gets elected but the fact remains that right now too many people view Conservatives as the Devil. It will take time to heal and fix that perception, though Obama has helped tremendously. The left fears Christie much more than any other candidate and it is trying its best to knock him down.

While he is not my ideal candidate by no means, he can be elected as he has demonstrated a willingness to work with the other side. Something that many aspire in their candidates. He may not be able to heal the wounds but he could stop the bleeding, combined with a legislature pulling him in the right direction, we may get back on track to saving the nation.

We need to stop thinking on short-term and look to the long game. It took many years to get where we are, it will not change overnight or in just one election. We need to remember that and act accordingly.

boricuafudd

Sorry for the long post.

Thus far I've seen no evidence that he did so.

NK(withnewsoftware)

DoT-- so far neither the Mayor of Ft Lee or even that cow DiBuono claims that Christie did so. The worst allegation out of the cow is that Christie's 'paramiltary' operation 'knows' what he wants and does it. I am gobsmacked that anyone would assume that fact, with no evidence whatever. Without knowing the facts, I'd put money down that Christie never 'told' or 'authorized' anyone to do this, becuase it was ridiculously stupid. the Wildstein guy took the 5th today, make of that what you will.

Q: I'm wondering what your staff said to you about why they lied to you. Why would they do that? What was their explanation? And what about Mr. Samson? What role did he play in this?

GOV. CHRISTIE: I have — I have not had any conversation with Bridget Kelly since the email came out. And so she was not given the opportunity to explain to me why she lied because it was so obvious that she had. And I'm, quite frankly, not interested in the explanation at the moment.

NK(withnewsoftware)

For instance-- did Obummer ever tell Lois Lerner to screw over conservative applicants? No way, no how. But if IRS Commish Schulman, tells Lois Lerner that based on the SCOTUS Citizens United decision, carefully reviewing tax exempt applications before 2012 is a point of agency emphasis.... she knows what to do, and Schulman knows exactly what she'll do.

That was deliberate plausible deniability for Obummer for a deliberate political purpose. Compare and contrast 2 Lane closings-- for 4 days? Why would that be deliberate?

Christie shoulda said he was shutting down traffic to convert the bridge to high speed rail. Bam - $5B grant from the feds.

Christie shoulda said he was shutting down traffic to have Date Night in New York with his wife.

Christie shoulda said "don't think of it as the government keeping you stuck in traffic, think of it as the government making you shelter in place in your car".

Christie shoulda said he didn't want people to cross the river since he heard health insurance doesn't cover anything out of state anymore.

Christie shoulda said a car driving across a bridge is a metaphor for PIV and it has to stop.

Christie shoulda said people need to get used to doing without the bridge since global warming's gonna flood it in a week or two anyway.

Christie shoulda said he didn't think anybody would be out driving because who can afford $3.50 gas?

Extraneus

Because they're more petty and vindictive, and less ideological, although not necessarily (we've seen no evidence!) reflecting the inclinations of their boss?

bgates

The worst allegation out of the cow is that Christie's [office] 'knows' what he wants and does it. I am gobsmacked that anyone would assume that fact, with no evidence whatever.

If true, it would mean that Christie's staff are some kind of autonomous beings instead of the wind-up toys that other politicians have been using.

MarkO

There is almost something criminal in the way the media does not acknowledge that the claims they are making against Christie are fully on display in the Obama administration. David Gregory is a prime example.

There is simply no pretense to objectivity anymore.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Goal posts are moving. The fools did stuff Christie wanted without being told or authorized. That is the loser barbara buono accusation. If that's what the fools did, the facts show that the fools guessed wrong, because when the story came out, they lied to Christie's chief of staff about what they knew and did.

This is a pattern that has happened before when subordinates lie to serious political bosses. Rudy G slammed subordinates for petty corruption in his mayoral admin, and GWB did it over Intel leaks. It seems to have happened here. No eveidence Christie 'told'r 'authorized' and I highly doubt there ever will be.

MarkO

"did Obummer ever tell Lois Lerner to screw over conservative applicants? No way, no how."

Not so fast, my friend. Prior to the other day would anyone have believed Hillary and Obama would have admitted to anyone that their opposition to the surge was only political?

He believes himself to be invulnerable and, like Nixon, beyond the law.

It's on the record, baby huey

He denies he's a bully while starting a sentence in his apology with a belligerent, "What you need to understand is . . ."

Bullies thrive on intimidation and fear. It's rather unlikely his staff has any autonomy.

They wouldn't dare.

Miss Marple

Off topic, but Geraldo was on commenting on this (because he lives in New Jersey and that is his sole area of expertise on this) BUT he has grown a FULL BEARD!

And a mighty scruffy one it is, particularly when paired with his Clyde Crashcup mustache.

Did a memo go out promoting beards or something?

NK(withnewsoftware)

MarkO-- 2 things. Hillary admitting to being political doesn't cop to a crime. It cops to being a politician--embarassing and hurts election chances when it comes out, but it's not prosecutable. Telling Lois Weiss to violate taxpayer rights IS a crime, and she knows it's a crime if it comes out that way. And committing a crime puts her fat pension at risk, so she might not do it. So that is handled, very differently, and Axelrod wouldn't ever let Obummer handle that... he's really too stupid to handle that. It was done another very different way.
