--If he weren't 6'5" he'd be driving a zambone at a rink somewhere.-

I can think of several thousand well compensated guys who, were they not their present stature, would be sweeping up debris at basketball arenas, football stadia and baseball parks around the country.

daddy

I see from this story posted at The Hill, that 13 House Democrats offer bill demanding government study on Internet hate speech

Thirteen House Democrats have proposed legislation that would require the government to study hate speech on the Internet, mobile phones and television and radio.

Wonder why they didn't decide to study Hate speech in the Music Industry or in the Movies? I would have thought that if you wanted to examine "Hate Speech" that was exceptionally influential and persuasive in this country you'd focus on Rap music and some of the gratuitously bloody flicks out of Hollywood that glorify Hate Speech and violence. Wasn't the entire Mid-East and Benghazi all supposed to have been inflamed into a murderous 'Hate filled' rage just because of some stupid anti-Muhammed video?

These 13 weasels have less balls than Tipper Gore.

Extraneus

You know, that "We came, we saw, he died" accompanied by cackling was one of the most disgraceful things I ever heard a person in government say

Old Lurker,

Graduate schools, particularly business, are a different breed.

Undergraduates are more naive, and their parents are either from the time when a degree guaranteed employment or know nothing about college and believe the counselors.

The information is available but very hard for youngsters to find. And department chairs are very adept at luring youngsters into their majors so they can increase the size of the department.

Nope, they should have to provide the information right there when they sign up. And they also should limit what can be borrowed for living expenses, so that the taxpayers are not funding trips to Cancun.

rse

By the way, graduate business schools have now been thoroughly targeted to make changing graduates' perspectives on the need for socialism the dominant message. That is next on my list to write about. Probably Sunday but I have had the research for about 10 days now. It is a global push. Canada, Australia too.

So that ROI will be diminishing too with graduates conflicted on whether it is now to be the vehemence of the advocacy of dirigisme that gets the sinecures that remain. Nmae schools, no-name. All targeted.

Seminaries seem mainly to produce atheists these days, so why shouldn't business schools turn out graduates who don't believe in business?

Daily Beast:

President Obama is “chronically incapable” of military strategy and falls far short of his predecessor George W. Bush, according to one of Britain’s most senior military advisors.

Sir Hew Strachan, an advisor to the Chief of the Defense Staff, told The Daily Beast that the United States and Britain were guilty of total strategic failure in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Obama’s attempts to intervene on behalf of the Syrian rebels “has left them in a far worse position than they were before.”

The extraordinary critique by a leading advisor to the United States’ closest military ally comes days after Obama was undermined by the former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who questioned the President’s foreign policy decisions and claimed he was deeply suspicious of the military.

Why anyone expected anything different is beyond me. The nation has done this to itself.

Old Lurker

I agree, MM.

It always comes down to spending somebody else's money and the carelessness that ensues.

"Back in the day" a family that needed money for college for a kid went down to their bank and asked for a loan. That forced a frank discussion between the banker and the breadwinner, and it upped the sense of responsibility on the part of the borrower.

Of course, "back in the day", the hungry in the community would go see the pastor who would prevail on the community to provide what the pastor thought appropriate, and often got some community service in return. More than one little old lady got yard work done through that system.

Back in that same old day, the principals and teachers of the school up the street knew for whom they worked.

Yesterday I linked the story about Bernie Sanders and a Dem Congressman pushing House/Senate colleagues to sign a letter urging the MSM to start pushing AGW Climate Change in their reporting.

Today WUWT links to a brand new National study where the pollsters are bummed that Americans aren't buying into AGW Climate Change hysteria like they want: Yale: Global warming on the out with Americans

“Our findings show that the public’s understanding of global warming’s reality, causes, and risks has not improved and has, in at least one important respect, gone in the wrong direction over the past year,” said researcher Ed Maibach, PhD, of George Mason University. “Better public communication about global warming is needed now more than ever.”

They never quit.

Miss Marple

daddy, To clarify. I saw her PAINTING, not her in person.

When Gore ran in 2000, I was watching the "Meet Al Gore" movie on C-SPAN's gavel-to-gavel coverage, and Gore was taking the camera crew through his rather tacky home in Tennessee. In the hall, right on the wall where children and grandchildren and guests could see it, was an oil self-portrait Tipper did WHILE PREGNANT and it was a full-frontal NUDE!

Gore mae a point of showing it, despite Tipper's protest. I decided right then they were both nuts, with him being an abusive husband. Who would put that up where everyone could see it, and then insist it be shown on national TV?

So I am not surprised she finally got the gumption to dump him. It probably took her years of therapy.

jimmyk

The scam in colleges and universities to get those student loan dollars in their hands is infuriating, and I really wish there would be a serious congressional investigation.

Wouldn't a simple solution (aside from the preferred one of getting rid of the loan program entirely) be to make the university cosign for the loan? That might get them to steer students away from Comparative Lit or Gender Studies majors.

Old Lurker

"serious congressional investigation"

The extraordinary critique by a leading advisor to the United States’ closest military ally comes days after Obama was undermined by the former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who questioned the President’s foreign policy decisions and claimed he was deeply suspicious of the military.

Coincidentally, Israel's Defense Minister had this to say a few days ago:

Israel's Defense Minister, Moshe "Boogy" Ya'alon, is facing criticism from the opposition after slamming U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported earlier on Tuesday that the outspoken Ya'alon had said that Kerry, who recently completed his tenth trip to the region in less than a year on the job, "turned up here determined and acting out of misplaced obsession and messianic fervor" for a peace deal.

Ya'alon added: "In reality, there have been no negotiations between us and the Palestinians for all these months --but rather between us and the Americans. The only thing that can 'save us' is for John Kerry to win a Nobel Prize and leave us in peace." Breitbart News offered a similar analysis last week, noting: "The real negotiations are not those between Israel and the Palestinians, but between Israel and the Obama administration."

In addition, Ya'alon was candid in his views of Kerry's plan for Israel's security in a peace agreement, saying that it was "not worth the paper it's written on....It contains no peace and no security." Israel's chief negotiator, Tzipi Livni, accused Ya'alon of harming relations with the U.S., but other politicians came to his defense. "The State of Israel can't sacrifice its security and it can't outsource the state's security to censors," one said.

Cecil Turner

I suspect tbt is someone upset at C's role in the trashing of West. I'm not happy about it either, but doubt the depths of conspiracy suggested here. I think it was deadline pressure and a favor for a friend.

I've given up trying to figure out who tbt is (and actually, the anduril connection is disturbingly compelling) . . . but I think the "trashing of West" thing deserves a response. And at the risk of annoying you (again) . . .

I am no expert at communist history or cold war spy vs. spy stuff. And I know very little about agent 19 and the penetration by commies (except that it did in fact happen). But I do know a bit about military history, and WWII in particular.

Any interpretation of the facts that requires one to believe the Red Army was a "hollow force" as it rolled through Berlin is wrong. That's simply not a credible reading. Ditto for any military analysis of the "second front" that favors Anzio over Normandy as an invasion point. Yes, some folks may have said something favorable to that view, but they were wrong. This is probably the most analyzed set of campaigns in history, and those issues aren't in any real doubt.

Now, I don't claim to be able to evaluate the bulk of the Radosh/West imbroglio, and I don't think either did themselves any favors. But my reading of Clarice's article was about the dangers of revisionism, with which I agree. And on the narrow points I have a clue about, West is revisionist. YMMV.

Miss Marple,

I'm sure the Millenials will realize over time that they've been robbed by tenured thieves. After all, they are the ones they've been waiting for. The 35-40% of the cohort bright enough to count aren't going to be hurt any more than they will have any difficulty finding employment.

I would prefer the victims to retain a high degree of animus towards tenured thieves every day they wear their serf's collar. It will be better for all over the long term.

Also agree West was wrong on some points, which happens to everyone. However her refusal to acknowledge and dispense with them did more to obscure her larger and largely correct point about communist influence in the USA than anything Radosh or Horowitz said.

JIB, I consider that a form of paranoia. People who major in those areas already feel persecuted and go looking for explanations for everything in their pet cause.

It's akin to some conspiracy theorists. Back in the Clinton era some people got carried away and came up with the idea that the AMtrak Repair yard in Beech Grove (suburban Indy) was being set up as a concentration camp. It had scary barbed wire and everything!

MM-my rule on connecting dots is you only connect dots among known events. You use the theories on what could be the connection to locate a participant who has declared intentions in writing or video. Then you write about it if it is pertinent and especially if declaree has the power to make his or her wishes so.

Then there is never a theory about a conspiracy. You are describing a proclaimed coordinated effort that frequently meets all the criteria for collusion. Which is fair game for discussion without being accused of where any foil hats.

If his daughter thought that SHE would have to pay back the cost of her education and at market rates of interest, the SHE would think twice too.

Alas the parents are probably assuming the government will provide for them until they die and so they are not sacrificing for the kid's education. And the kid, having no clue where money comes from, assumes they can work for Teach for America and that will erase their debt. Whatever "debt" is.
