I was just reading about the absurd amount of money Mark Steyn has been forced to spend to call a fraud a fraud, and I'd like to propose the following sweeping legal reform:

In no civil matter shall the plaintiff spend more than 10x the legal expenses of the defendant, or vice versa.

If Mann announces he's willing to spend $500,000 to muzzle Steyn et al, NRO is constrained to spend at most $5M. If Steyn responds that he sees no point in blowing more than two grand, Mann has to squeeze his case into $20,000.

Under this system, deep pockets can still empty themselves into their lawyers (so to speak) suing each other; if Apple wants to spend a billion dollars attacking Google, Google can spend ten billion defending itself. But if Apple wants to crush something that looks now like Google did in 1998, it can't use its $1000/hour guys unless it expects things to get wrapped up inside of a week.

I don't think people in general mind that Fortune 500 types have giant houses and travel and live almost as well as the Obamas, but the sense that the super-rich and big corporations are above the law because they can afford to spend so much more on the law is widespread and poisonous.

First thing we do, discount all the lawyers.

Read this short biography of the very communistic and very dead Pete Seeger and you will find only that "As a member of the Communist Party in the 1940s, Seeger's skepticism of those in power carried through his career."

Hmm, said skepticism didn't seem to include slightly powerful people like Stalin and Molotov whose pact with Hitler he defended with an album demanding FDR stay out of the war, which was then withdrawn immediately upon the break between Stalin and Hitler.

Imagine the career, not to mention the obituaries, of this creep had he been, oh say an actual Nazi, rather than merely a person who supported Hitler on orders from his Stalinist bosses.

Dr. Milton Wolf, the radiologist challenging Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), told The Hill on Monday that while Obama’s a “nice guy,” he believes he’s “the worst president in our time, if not our history.”

Wolf says his mother realized after reading a newspaper article in 2008 about a great uncle who served in World War II, Charlie Payne, in which a “senator from Illinois” is mentioned, that Payne and Obama are related.

“You can’t choose your family, but what you can do is to rise up and stop your family from destroying America, and I think Barack Obama is destroying America,” the GOP Senate hopeful said in an interview. “I think his policies are an absolute disaster and I think they’re a betrayal not only of our Constitution but a betrayal of the American idea itself.”
