rich,

Berkeley no longer is paying for telephones, so maybe that part of it has changed.

Can you imagine working somewhere where you have to pay for the telephone on behalf of your employer?

MarkO

Do we have to make Dana cry again?

I saw the emaciated, cadaverous visage of Carville. The very definition of ophidian.

Abadman

I would hope Cialis, it is more expensive, and on your dime

DrJ

George Rathmann (man he rest in peace) assured me that Cialis has much less visual color distortion than Viagra.

I've no idea, as I've not used any of these sorts of meds. No need.

rich@gmu

everyone must be watching the Sugar Bowl.

Rob Crawford
This may vary from campus to campus. My experience is that this is a separate profit center, and they seek to maximize the profit from a captive audience with no alternatives (before cell phones at least).

Yeah... I STR that when I was in the dorms, the phone costs were reasonable. I moved off-campus, and the local telecom charged for local calls. Any place beyond, say, half a mile, was a charge call.

DrJ

rich, i am too. 'Bama down by seven. Where's Beasts?

YIKES!!! The pisser puss isn't even worth yelling at.

The blog owner asked us to vote for something or other recently. Maybe he should return the favor by deleting or modifying, in a mocking manner, some of the insane gibberish that litters up his site. Although I criticize ace from time to time about individual issues, he has the pride of ownership to keep his blog free of garbage that might reflect poorly on him.

rich@gmu

No. It would be bad. However, I have a vague memory that I had to pay for some non business call when I worked at UF. Forget what it was about though-something like $15.

Beasts of England

Ugh.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Just Damn.

Come on TIDE. ROLL!!!

rich@gmu

it was because I picked them for the win.

come on...even as at batting average it would stink.

rich@gmu

31-17 at half. Sorry Beasts.

narciso

Well Dana is a thick, wretched fool, who has mocked the deaths of two of our company, who pretended his son was dead, he's recycling that avatar, political differences of opinions are one thing, but common courtesy is something else again,

rich@gmu

CH-

I can see why he'd not want to get into it though. that sort of monitoring is time consuming, then you'd have s*hitheads come in at all hours to vandalize the place. pretty sure this thing doesn't make that kinds of sweet cash that it could be a full time plus job (plus all the content!).

and it is fun to kick around the featherpasser of pisser...

Captain Hate

I have confidence in Big Game Bob Stoops to blow this lead. It's not a lock to happen but history is on that side.

Btw, elsewhere I've seen some comments about all the empty seats in these BCS non championship games. Maybe having these games after New Years Day is as dumb as some of us originally thought.

Calling Medicaid "coverage" probably comes as a bitter surprise to a lot of people in that group who were previously happy with what they had.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Capt the the BoD games were average 60% empty. The big name bowl games have been 15% or less empty. The BCS games have been 95-100% full.

The NFL can't sell out playoff games in Green Bay!!! And Christmas sales were a bust.

The ACC never travels well, but the SEC usually does. No one traveled well this year.

The ticket prices are too damn high for one thing

Janet

That Josh Marshall has it right. Why stop at 10 million? The Dems should say 100 or 200 million Americans are now covered.
Lie Big...& Lie Often. It becomes accepted & nobody checks.

Hell, say 600 million Americans are now covered! Why not? Most people don't know the population of the USA. The Dems should just repeat that over & over.

Gmax

No one traveled well this year.

Au Contraire the Green in the Rose Bowl was more than half to my eye, and its a long trek from East Lansing to Pasadena. Place was full too, and scalpers were getting premiums over face...

If they hadn't lost to Notre Dame, they'd be playing in the last BCS game.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Ok the rose bowl was full, but the chickfila was 20% empty with Duke 4 hours away not even snapping up those tix for their first bowl game in how many years??. The out back, gator and fiesta looked to have lots of empties. I know lots of dawg fans that didn't bother and that could be a day trip from Atlanta or a 2 hour leisure trip for lots of dawg fans.

JIB

Driving back from the Cape listening to the Bama game. Shocking.

From Daytona to my exit is 26 miles and the half had 3:09 to go. I made it home (an extra 4 miles) before the half ended. That's right the last 3:09 took about 25 minurtes in real time to finish.

Regarding orientation of dogs to the earth magnetic field for pooping assistance, I have noticed that they seem to be very particular as to where they do their business. On the beach its always north or south since that is the direction it runs. Another thing these beagles do is dig at the carpet and walk around in circles before they lay down. Wknder if that is the same issue?

daddy, was it Roissy-de-France where you stayed the other night and found the puppie out of the ruins?

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Who wants to deal with the tsa, or high gas prices, or redic tix prices, or redic stadium food/beer prices when the comfy couch, the kitchen fridge and the pause button are in a heated, no rudeass stasi present home is so much easier. Plus you can have your friends over for a pajama party (that's what we call the guests who over imbibe -that's pretty much all of them - stay the night).

>>>The paper says the Western debt burden is now so big that rich states will need same tonic of debt haircuts, higher inflation and financial repression - defined as an “opaque tax on savers” - as used in countless IMF rescues for emerging markets.

“The magnitude of the overall debt problem facing advanced economies today is difficult to overstate. The current central government debt in advanced economies is approaching a two-century high-water mark,” they said.<<<

Welp, in defense of the Dawg fan base, a lot of unemployment benefits have expired. Probably outside of F$U and maybe Klempsun, I can't think of many ACC fan bases that "travel well", a phrase that bothers me for some reason. The Crim fans have rocked the warchant in opposing stadiums for years; I can recall hearing it plainly when Bowden shellshocked Meechigan in their 100k+ Big House many years ago.

touchdown...party on Beasts!

BB Key

Steph, Atlanta is more than 4 hours from NJ .
As we say down here in NC.

University of New Jersey at Durham

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

WTF I just received a winter weather advisory for our county til 7 am Friday. YUCK, y'all need to keep that sh!t up north.

Rob Crawford

"financial repression"

WTF does that mean?

How about the eaters just get cut off?

JIB

The Pachyderm better hope this game doesn't come down to a FG.
He doesn't do that thing so well. Either at Auburn or in N'Olens tonight.

Lots of stupid, undisciplined mistakes by The Pachyderm tonight. Not a sign of a Sabin coached team. Wonder if Nick was spending more time planning how to spend his new contract then coaching.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

It is if you drive like I do, bbkey. :)

Rob Crawford
YUCK, y'all need to keep that sh!t up north.

No, nature needs better timing. I headed back to work after a couple weeks off -- into an effing snow storm!

And the forecast for Sunday night is... MORE SNOW!!!

It wouldn't be that bad, if people around here didn't assume any snow on the ground turns the roads into skating rinks.

Captain Hate

I don't think I've discussed this with Beasts but the Tide against Auburn looked like the worst prepared Saban team in recent memory.

rich@gmu

Janet-

lets go saganesque...it is trillions and trillions who have coverage.

stubbed toe, heart attack, promiscious...ocare has a plan for you!

Captain Hate

I trust I'm not the only one that hopes the Stupor Bowl in NJ gets completely slattered with snow and very low temperatures.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Now THAT'S the Tide rolling rolling rolling. Knock those doggies back to Oklahoma.

JIB

BTW, I agree about ticket prices and travel costs keeping the big bowls empty. In Miami, I looked at Orange Bowl tickets in case we had to go down to pick up Frederick. Upper level at Sun Life, corner of the end zone were $256 a piece. Miami Beach and Downtown Miami hotels are at high occupancy for the first time since 2007 and very expensive. The beach ones are charging 3 times their normal out of season rates. In the last 5 years you could get the same rate in the winter months as the summer.

Our hotel in Key Biscayne wanted close to 4 times what we had paid in October during our last visit. You couple these costs with airfare, food, entertainment and you have a "Wakkie Nu Nu".

Look at SunLife Stadium tomorrow to see if the Ahians were able to afford such luxury of a few days out of the snow in Miami. The Clemson crowd only has a 10 hour drive down but not the majority of the Buckeye fans.

rich@gmu

Rob-

don't see that happening anytime soon:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_repression

"any of the measures that governments employ to channel funds to themselves, that, in a deregulated market, would go elsewhere."

one example would be taking 401K savings and replacing it with a savings bond. others in the article taking capital from pension funds and insurance companies and returning government debt.

narciso

How exactly will the IMF pull this off, we see how
el Caracazo, in Venezuela, the Zhirinovsky turn out, and eventually Evo Morales were responses to shock therapy,

Captain Hate

JiB, the Dorkeye fans have been bowl starved after the Sweater Vest adventures so they've probably been chomping at the bit.

Big Game Bob might be blowing a lead? I'll have to see if I can find my shocked face...

rich@gmu

nsrciso-

it was a study commissioned by the IMF authored by Rogoff and Reinhart (of This Time is Different fame). Haven't read the paper myself, but it seems to be in line with their thinking in TTID (and with various other economists around the world).

narciso

Scratch that. I can see them doing stupid things like that and more, since our debt burden has gone transwarp, and our GDP pearshaped,

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

When we did the Orange bowl a few years ago, we got the upper corner nosebleeds at Landshark ( what it was called then) and we stayed in a Hampton Suites just off 95. The only reason we added the pregame tailgate party was I won enough at the Hard rock the night before to get them. The 3 day trip was still almost $1800 on the cheap.

JIB

CH,

Well if they come and want to avoid the sticker shock, then they are probably going to stay in Dania, Hollywood or Ft. Lauderdale (which are actually closef to SunLife than the beaches or downtown Miami.

Also, by coming down for the game, how will they be able to afford ObamaCare?

narciso

I hope they remembered to carry the one, this time, we can't take another gloatfest by the nutrooters, as a self inflicted wound,

JIB

A. J. McCarron's pro stock could take a big hit tonight.

All those senior commitments to Alabama showcased earlier in the All-America game better include a number of offensive lineman who can pass protect.

Captain Hate

Have they upgraded the Orange Bowl stadium recently? In recent years it's looked like as much of a dump as RFK.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

The Falcon's will probably draft the entire TIDE oline then JIB. Lol

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

One person has Oklahoma in the pickem - pagar.

JIB

CH,

The play the Orange Bowl in SunLife Stadium not the old Orange Bowl in Miami. Its were the Dolphins play an is located in Miami Gardens.

Its a pro Football stadium with a club level, corporate boxes etc. I don't think its in the same category as old RFK. Not a dump.

The old Orange Bowl, near little Havana was torn down 2008 and that is where the Marlins baseball park is now located.

Captain Hate

Ok, thanks JiB; I was thinking of the old one. Where does the U play?

narciso

Yes, that's the one, where they hired Guillen, the Castro and Chavez admirer, as manager, epic fail,

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

That Marlins baseball park sure is a money spinner. Average attendance of what 2,800?

Mccarron takes too long to get rid of the ball.

Captain Hate

Saban is making all those Texas fans who want him to take over for Mack Brown feel better by showing he clearly can't cut it in the Big 12.

JIB

The U plays at SunLife.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Ouch burn capt. That was cruel.

Captain Hate

Yes, Ozzie was a great fit down there ::maximumeyeroll::

Rob Crawford

So "financial repression" is just a fancy way of saying "theft".

narciso

'You mean Satan' well I'm not going Cpl Hudson, yet, but 14 points, seems a bit of a reach,

JIB

They can't run for 14 pts. with 8 left. So, what do you think the Sooners are thinking for a defense. Game over from my perch.

JIB

Spoke too soon? Forget about that kid Henry. 6'4" 240lbs and fast.

Captain Hate

That Marlins baseball park sure is a money spinner. Average attendance of what 2,800?

When the Indians lost to them in 97, one of their dipshit fans held a banner up saying "It's Our Turn". After seeing that, I felt safe in saying I don't have any aneurisms poised to cut loose due to a maximum blood pressure spike.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Lol my hubs was screaming at them to put Henry back in and poof... 7 points erased.

narciso

then they disbanded the team about a week later, look desperation makes you do strange things,

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

OT OT OT !!!!

Time for a turnover...

Captain Hate

then they disbanded the team about a week later, look desperation makes you do strange things,

Actually that worked really well for them, tearing it down and then rebuilding to win it again in seven years.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

The Rays are my Fl team of choice.

Where's that vaunted TIDE defense? Damn

Captain Hate

narc, I finally watched all the "additional features" on the POI second season DVD, which included the producers doing a voice over for the last episode of the season. It was pretty interesting hearing them saying that they included stuff in that, such as Harold's 180 on the "irrelevents", since the first episode. Also they got the idea of Finch embedding the virus in a virus from Stuxnet.

narciso

Ok, explain the first part, as for the Marlin, it appeared a bit of letdown, after the victory,

narciso

How much could have been involved;

Joan

I saw a documentary on emergency room use at a hospital in California. The waiting areas were packed from dawn to midnight. Complaints were fevers, earaches, nausea, general malaise, in other words, just ordinary complaints, except for, as I remember, a shooting and a knife attack. There were several alcoholics, who'd fallen off the wagon, back for help. There were no real emergencies, except for the bad one I mentioned.

People, who didn't have insurance, have gotten used to having all complaints being treated at emergency rooms. It probably won't change. The emergency room doctors were caring and considerate, even when presented with seeming chaos.

It's been shocking to me to see how, over the years, a hospital emergency room has turned into an old-time-doctor-style waiting room.

And, right now, there is 2:37 left in the Sugar Bowl. Even if OU loses, I think they've played a great game. Boomer Sooner. :)

JIB

Saban should be chewing out his defense and not the officials.

Now that is desparation - as if they are going to change their minds.

Captain Hate

Ok, explain the first part,

If I'm responding to what I think you're asking, Harold had been adamantly opposed initially to helping the "irrelevents"; that it was his partner Ingram's idea and he set up the library; and it was Ingram's death that gave Finch the raison d'etre to set the machine into motion helping them.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

Oh shit. Wow. Just wow. Mccarron has been exposed tonight.

JIB

Good night all. We just saw a "slattering". In case some one still doesn't know what one looks like.

If I am FSU, I am very confident going into Monday's game. The SEC can be had (at least this year).

Joan

Boomer Sooner.

Captain Hate

Congrats to Big Game Bob. God knows I rag on him but evidently Trevor Knight was the guy to take over from the Belldozer in a game like this. It's like that choking dog Landry Jones is just a vague memory.

Stephanie looking forward to the BCS games

I wouldn't want to be Sabans dog tonight.

Captain Hate

I agree, JiB; this is the Semenholes' year.

Captain Hate

Good night; these games take too long. Condolences Beasts; those national championship trophies should provide some degree of comfort though.

Beasts of England

Ugh.

jimmyk

Late to the party as usual, but I think a big reason people on Medicaid use the ER is because of the long waits to get an appointment with a doctor. If your kid has an earache or possibly strep you don't want to wait two weeks for a doctor's appointment to get a prescription for an antibiotic. This of course will only get worse with 404Care putting millions more into Medicaid with no thought about where the doctors will come from.

Ignatz

--Ugh.--

As a reformed fanatical Raiders fan I know the feeling well, Beasts.
In fact it's what weaned me off of caring about sports. Maybe it's only me but three Super Bowl wins wasn't worth the "ugh" of 15 or 20 other devastating losses.

Beasts of England

Crappy way to end the season. Gotta hand it to Stoops and the Sooners. Their QB is for real and their receivers made some fabulous catches. Very surprised we gave up that many points, hurry up or no hurry up. With plenty of talent and two of the better defensive minds in college ball (Saban and Kirby Smart) that just shouldn't happen.

Beasts of England

@Capt. Hate: We were horribly prepared for the Iron Bowl. Flat for so much of the first half. Wish I had the answer, although they're not paying me $7M a year to do so. ;)

After the first drive tonight, I thought we were looking for some redemption. As it turned out, it was Sugar Bowl / Utah redux.

Minnesota Vikings: We released Chris Kluwe for football reasons

MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Minnesota punter Chris Kluwe says his special-teams coordinator made anti-gay comments while Kluwe was with the Vikings.

Kluwe wrote a scathing first-person account on an Internet website on Thursday. In it, he alleges that coach Mike Priefer made several anti-gay comments in objection to Kluwe's outspoken support of a gay marriage amendment in Minnesota.

Kluwe also says former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier and current general manager Rick Spielman encouraged him to tone down his rhetoric in an effort to reduce distractions to the team. At the same time, Kluwe said, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf expressed support for Kluwe's championing of gay rights.

OK. That's his story. Now for the Phil Robertson, Christian angle, right? Wrong. Just a bunch of wimp quotes about how discrimination of any sort isn't and won't be tolerated, etc. And this:

Kluwe was due to make $1.45 million, which was more than the salary cap-strapped Vikings wanted to spend on a punter. So they drafted Jeff Locke in the fifth round and parted ways with Kluwe, bringing to an end his colorful and outspoken stay in Minnesota.
And that's the real story, right? Wrong.
"If there's one thing I hope to achieve from sharing this story," Kluwe wrote, "it's to make sure that Mike Priefer never holds a coaching position again in the NFL, and ideally never coaches at any level."
That's the real story. More gay bullying.
