Eyepatch

The veneer of support has worn thin. Polishing too often does that.

Is that guy still employed at the EPA? I would guess he is.

We are ruled by sociopaths. And a solid core of at least 40% of the population is perfectly happy, both to be ruled, and to have sociopaths for their rulers.

Human nature truly depresses me sometimes.

Same poll:

With large gender gaps, Colorado voters approve 45 - 41 percent of the job Sen. Mark Udall is doing, but are divided 42 - 42 percent on whether he deserves reelection this year. Women approve 51 - 32 percent and say 48 - 31 percent he deserves reelection. Men disapprove 49 - 40 percent and say 52 - 36 percent he does not deserve reelection.

Looking at the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Colorado, Sen. Udall gets 45 percent to 42 percent for Republican District Attorney Ken Buck. In other possible matchups:

Udall gets 43 percent to 41 percent for State Sen. Randy Baumgardner;
Udall edges State Sen. Owen Hill 44 - 39 percent;
Udall has 43 percent to State Rep. Amy Stephens with 41 percent;
Udall tops businessman Jaime McMillan 45 - 38 percent.

Sandy above has a good comment on the lousiness of the Post Office, but I'll use that Post Office point to show how Senator Mark Begich uses it to win votes for re-election:

Begich: Postal Service agrees to roll back rate hike for rural Alaska

The U.S. Postal Service has agreed to reverse a rate increase for Alaskans who live off the road system and are shipping large packages, according to U.S. Sen. Mark Begich, who said he met on Thursday with the U.S. postmaster general to argue for the rollback.

“Alaskans should see relief from soaring postal costs by next week,” said Begich.

See how that works? Thank you Mark Begich! You've certainly got the vote of Alaskans in the Interior with lousy Postal Service.

BTW, did Lisa or Don Young also talk to the Postmaster General?

Shut up. we're trying to get Begich re-elected here, so we're not interested in mentioning that.

Begich also said he added an amendment freezing rates at last year’s level while the Postal Regulatory Commission studies whether the Postal Service has a monopoly on package shipments in rural areas.

Another successful Begich amendment blocked language that would have barred firearms from post office parking lots.

Point is, you walk away from that story being spouted all over the news and TV airwaves up here and you think, wow, Mark Begich did all that for us. What a great Senator for Alaska.

Keystone will be passed so Obama can get credit for something in his second term. He fought it the whole way but he,like Clinton and welfare reform will say it was all his idea. In desperation he will do it beause on March 31st the whole country will know what a big bomb Obamacare is and want to blame the dems.
Trade agrrements won't pass because reid says so and Preezy always gives in to the psycho from Nevada. He will say "I wanted to do it but the unions and reid wouldn't let me.

I'm still not sure on immigration and since the GOP is going to cave on the debt limit they could sneak something in as a stop gap. I'm also doubtful that the administration will go along with Keystone at this point unless than can arrange it in such a way it can be cut to pieces with enviro lawsuits (similar to Alaska or Yucca Mtn. or nuclear power).

too bad we can't rotate our political class through Miss Marple's food bank to show them what their policies are really doing to people.

daddy

Miss Marple,

Sorry for the sad tales of Indy and glad you and your Church do so much for hopefully deserving and grateful folks.

You have such a beautiful clean downtown, but on almost every street-corner there are always people begging for money. I do not give them money as I cannot tell if they are honest in their poverty or doing it as a working gig, and there is such a strong sense as if they are trying to make me feel guilty. (I especially noticed that same strong guilt trip angle at our old hotel years back just across from the big Mormon Temple in downtown Salt Lake City).

In Indy I recall about 6 years back buying an extra burger and fries and a drink about 2 AM at the Steak and Shake, and trying to give it to the guy who was outside the joint and had been earlier trying to panhandle money, and when I gave it to him he didn't want it and used an expletive at me, so no more.

Reminds me how for probably 15 years I would meet the same guy on Telegraph in berkeley outside my favorite Used book stores, always standing at the same place, always relatively clean, spoke well, and eventually we knew each other well enough we'd shoot the breeze and he'd chuckle and tell me that this was just what he felt like doing for a living.

So all that said, I'm sorry about your town's poverty but I donate and give pretty much only to the Salvation Army and that's about it. I much prefer to give a decent tip to the midnight staff working inside the Steak and Shake than to the ungrateful panhandlers hanging around outside.

hummm. I'll dig around later. In re: your problem and not sure how helpful my suggestions would be...

advertise for a "robotics tinkerer" or "tinker gnome" (joking on this one] in Mohave, Midland, and Cape Canaveral. another option might be to look at the engineering program at Wisconsin and set up a meeting with the undergrad or grad education coordinator and limit the solicitation to those who have classroom and lab experience at the 400 or higher level and gpa (when we built our team at UF we were able to narrow the field by sending out the posting to those who made a B or higher in microprocessors, still had over 50 responses and scheduled 18 interviews).

miss Marple

Daddy,

Those panhandlers downtown are career beggars, many of whom go home to comfy abodes. The mayor has been trying to get a panhandling law enacted ibut the dems on the city council (majority) and the professional poverty people have prevented it.

The Salvation Army is great, and they run several food pantries here and many all across the nation. They are very skilled in weeding out the con artists from the truly needy. Plus I love them for how nice they were to my dad during WWII. They were the only charity he would donate to.

NK(withnewsoftware)

Daddy-- speaking of Clinton, 15 years ago Drudge started the great Monica Meme, after Newsweek(?) spiked the story. I read all of the NY Post reportage and was delighted that Clinton had put his thing in the wrong place. I discussed the emerging details with a friend, who at the time was the HR lawyer for a major corporation. I showed him the NY Post story on the train and asked him if he thought any of it was true. he immediately said ALL OF IT. he's a sober and careful lawyer so I asked how could he be so certain. He said it was the BJ's, with 'this kind of guy' it's always BJ's a power thing. I asked what is this 'kind of guy?'. He answered, senior management.. or corporate pilots. He was always defending harassment suits brought against the company because of the pilots ;)

On the dog walk I am going to try to figure out what is the big difference between NBC's adulation of Putin and the MSM's adulation of Obama?

Why are many media watchers upset about the first but not about the second?

And I am also wondering if the MSM will think that the just expelled from Russia American Reporter (Suttee?), who lived in Russia and was critical of Putin, if his expulsion was intentional. If Elizabeth Englebrecht being visited by the IRS 6 times and the FBI twice and the EPA and Osha and Homeland Security and the ATF was all just coincidence, why jump to the conclusion that a reporter critical of Putin and getting booted out of Russia just before Sochi started was anything other than a coinkydink as well?

Rich,

Momma thinks she would love it, since her brother is some big shot Lefty Lawyer in DC, but my guess is that after having spent a little time in that insane traffic pattern of idiocy she would come to miss the great open spaces out here of "leave us alone-ville."

She was in Begich's wife's coffee shop just after Begich was elected to the Senate (he was still mayor), and Begich was standing in the corner and somebody asked his wife about when was the Mayor gonna' do something about the streets, and Begich's wife pointed to Mark and said "Ask him", and Bubba (Momma) piped in, "Why ask him, he doesn't care. It ain't his problem anymore."

She said he burst out laughing.

Hell, maybe Momma should run for Senate:)

Toyota is close to a deal to pay more than $1 billion to end a U.S. criminal probe of how it disclosed drivers' complaints of unintended acceleration, according to people familiar with the matter.

A settlement could come despite a lack of evidence to date that the cars suffered from a mechanical or electronic defect. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration never found flaws in the electronic throttle-control or control software of the cars in question and determined operator error or floor mats trapping accelerator pedals were involved in most accidents.

Toyota has consistently disputed claims by plaintiffs' attorneys that its vehicles are defective, saying misplaced floor mats trapped the accelerator pedal in some cases. It hasn't admitted wrongdoing in any of the law suits brought against the company involving unintended acceleration.

We may as well have Shakedown Jackson as Attorney General.

Who gets the 1 billion from Toyota?

Issa?

Sirius??

From a long time ago:

Issa is a perfect tie in to this thread. In 2004 he co-sponsored a bill to change the presidential requirements to allow any citizen, who has lived in this country for 35 years, to be eligible for POTUS. It failed. This was an attempt to make Arnold a contender.

What they will find on Issa will come from his relentless pursuit of Toyota in the wake of the driver error crashes. He had a financial tie to a company that was in direct competition with Audiovox.

Audiovox won a bid that Issa's company, after it's purchase of Sirius, was in the running for.Directed Electronics (Sirius' parent company) lost 90 million in one year.

Toyota was the largest purchaser of Audiovox satellite and electronic equipment and Issa had a personal interest in a competitor. This will be a problem if they pursue Issa enough.
