miss Marple

On Jeopardy tonight, the category was "Chicago the Beautiful" and all of the answers were read by Michelle Obama.

I really think we need to read up son the Perons.

justified

"Structural Engineers will tell you the same thing!"

Too bad they're all conspiracy outliers who cut themselves out of that sea-llke herd of lemmings called mainstream engineers.

We can only trust the muddle when it comes to these sensitive subjects.

sbwaters

TBT? Haven't seen her in weeks. I recommend others consider how sweet that is.

narciso

Oh crikey, miss marple.

speaking of the Perons you reminded me of one of their successor's retainers, a Mr, Capitanich, another one of Cristina's cabal, who in order to obscure the govt's failure of an economic policy, is attacking individual bueinesses as if they had anything to do with it,

Truthbetold

The number of architects and engineers who separated from the lemmings is large.

I think it is time to try an inform JM and perhaps Typepad that we are experiencing harassment on a regular basis. It is both insulting and pointless.

If the little turd dared identify itself it would beg a visit from the local police.

I'm blaming it on the Trilateralists myself. Are they the ones with the black helicopters? Or is it another conspiracy? It's so hard to keep up these days.Maybe the Kochs were involved.

clarice

As far as I am able to mine the depths of insane minds, it appears TBT believes the Plame hoax was started by Bush, Perle and Wolfoitz to distract from drawing attention to the real perps behind 9/11 who could not possibly be jihadis and somehow I--who pasted together the best thoughts of the JOM hive mine into a coherent narrative was a key player in pulling the wool over people's eyes.

I love it..

justified

"The number of architects and engineers who separated from the lemmings is large."

I'm sure it is large, but as a comparative group?

miss Marple

Narciso,

Note the same strategy is being tried here. It's the banks' fault. It's the insurance companies. Big Oil! Big Pharma! Doctors are cutting peoples' feet off! On and on.

Nothing is ever the fault of government. Never.

This is what bothers me the most about TBT and his ilk. The sheer supremacist view of theirs that will refuse to believe that "desert goatheraders" could actually be smart enough to commit 9/11. Even if they could it be all a plot by some Jewish cabal or rich bankers and the government. This type of bigotry blinds them for so many things.

They don't ask if fire can't melt steel, why do they have all steel beams covered with some fireproof agent. Or if the Iraq War was for Iraqui oil why are we getting less of it now that pre-war. Or why is the Iraqui government paying billions to remove both Yellow Cake or Chemical weapons that we "were not there".

miss Marple

Hey, as long as we are asking questions, where did Plame and her husband get the money for that fancy house detailed in Vanity Fair, the one with granite countertops and Persian rugs and antiques, which renovation they had just completed?

All on 2 government worker salaries, along with an expensive Rollex watch for hubby and a couple of expensive cars, as well as private school and private lessons for their children.

All detailed in the article to show how tasteful they were.

Exactly, narciso. It is astounding to me that not one reporter thought to question their lifestyle.

Since TBT has inserted him/her self on JOM, by my count, s/he has engaged no one, and ridiculed everyone here with ad hominem bullshit. S/he has not propounded one hypothesis that we could test, but rather has made snide comments about those of us who, over a long period of time, have established their bonafides by making substantive arguments on a wide variety of thorny issues.

There is nothing to see here. Move along TBT.

Architects recgnize that a very pleasing ratio of one dimension to another - say, the length of a room to its width - occurs when the ratio of the length to the width is the same as the ratio of (legth plus width) to length. This is called the "golden ratio." Its numerical value is 1.6183.

Now get this: if you take the ratio of a Fibonacci number to its predecessor, you will get a number that is either higher or lower than the golden ratio. But if it is higher, then the ratio of the next two will be lower, and so on. And as the numbers get larger, the ratios approach closer and closer to - you guessed it.

I have pondered why this is so, and have concluded that you can't get there from where I start.

Beasts of England

boricuafudd

TBT,

Sorry, I have a life so I just read your question. The answer is no, it depends on the particular alloy and the properties desired.

Maybe this will help, you;

Addendum (8/26/2011): I answered this question many years ago and it has been referenced in many different web sites and reports. There has been one misrepresentation that has come from that. Many sites refer to the difference in the melting point of steel and the burning temperature of jet fuel as proof that the World Trade Center could not have fallen from the aircraft fires. What those authors fail to note is that while steel melts at around 1,370°C (2500°F) it begins to lose its strength at a much lower temperature. The steel structure of the World Trade Center would not have to melt in order for the buildings to lose their structural integrity. Steel can be soft at 538°C (1,000°F) well below the burning temperature of jet fuel.

DrJ

Beasts,

Unbotanium? Nah, adminstratium:

The heaviest element known to science was recently discovered by investigators at a major U.S. research university. The element, tentatively named administratium, has no protons or electrons and thus has an atomic number of 0. However, it does have one neutron, 125 assistant neutrons, 75 vice neutrons and 111 assistant vice neutrons, which gives it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by a force that involves the continuous exchange of meson-like particles called morons. Since it has no electrons, administratium is inert. However, it can be detected chemically as it impedes every reaction it comes in contact with. According to the discoverers, a minute amount of administratium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would have normally occurred in less than a second.

Administratium has a normal half-life of approximately three years, at which time it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which assistant neutrons, vice neutrons and assistant vice neutrons exchange places. Some studies have shown that the atomic mass actually increases after each reorganization.

Research at other laboratories indicates that administratium occurs naturally in the atmosphere. It tends to concentrate at certain points such as government agencies, large corporations, and universities. It can usually be found in the newest, best appointed, and best maintained buildings.

Scientists point out that administratium is known to be toxic at any level of concentration and can easily destroy any productive reaction where it is allowed to accumulate. Attempts are being made to determine how administratium can be controlled to prevent irreversible damage, but results to date are not promising.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) last week released its final report on the Sept. 11, 2001, collapse of the 47-story World Trade Center building 7 (WTC 7) in New York City. The final report is strengthened by clarifications and supplemental text suggested by organizations and individuals worldwide in response to the draft WTC 7 report, released for public comment on Aug. 21, but the revisions did not alter the investigation team’s major findings and recommendations, which include identification of fire as the primary cause for the building’s failure.
