>>>The WaPo appears to think this is a good thing. As near as I can tell, so does the Democratic party.<<<

and apparently they were field testing these ideas out before the cbo released its report. convenient they could find someone to fill the role so quickly.

...and 50K in student loans is (assuming a 4.5% rate) is about 516/mth for 10 years and $318 for 15 years...for someone at $20/hr that would be between 16%-21% of monthly net.

clarice

A nation of poets--following their dreams. Seems like just yesterday the left was pooh poohing the Bush recovery as filled with hamburger flipping jobs/ Now funemployent is great. Who follows these people, amnesiacs?

miss Marple

Danube, been watching this for several weeks.

In my opinion he has a fixation on Clarice and originally came here to attack her.

When she ignored him, he decided he would try to make us mistrustful of her, perhaps driving her from this enjoyable site.

When THAT didn't work, he has decided to show us how stupid we are by not turning on Clarice. Hence the questions as posed by someone who has all of the information while we dimwits I do not understand what he has proved with geometric logic.

I don't have any other ideas. I am not a psychiatrist, but I'd do think I recognize obsession.

Captain Hate

They've got the attention span and cognitive ability of gnats, clarice.

clarice

Ah, obsession..How many 72 y.o. women can inspire such passion as this?

of course narciso sniffed it out faster...FamiliesUSA a 501c4 outfit (pretty sure they've never run afoul of the IRS)

Clarice

Why are you not explaining what the "Plame hoax" is to your friend Jane?

She asked you.

Beasts of England

Small fires become big fires sometimes. But, I'm really waiting for you to tell me. Please. I can handle the truth.

rich@gmu

i'm kinda slow and it's kinda late but i have yet to figure out what he is yammering on about. cyberspace is big he'll eventually find a home.

But it did not become a big fire. Are you having trouble handling that truth?

miss Marple

I fear the longer the winter drags on the worse Wreckovery Summer VI is going to be. People are spending more than budgeted on keeping warm, and they are not shopping. Companies will have spent more on energy this winter and will not have extra cash, especially with Obamacare looming.

More snow tonight. Ugh.

There's some positive aspects to the report but the Tenured Thieves Guild is sure peddling a load of crap about positive income outcomes.

narciso

ACLU, GLAD, the National Council of Churches, they are thick as thieves as BP and Goldman,

Captain Hate

Yes Miss Marple, we've reached the point of winter where everybody is sick of it; by March even though it could drag on we'll get some breaks. I've also reached the point where I'll go outside in shirtsleeves briefly in single digit temperatures as long as the wind isn't blowing.

And it's snowing lightly here.

Rob Crawford
Rick, they didn't run Mrs. Ceaucescu as a candidate.

You sure about that? I think you'll find they won every accolade possible, every election they stood for, and every contest they entered.

miss Marple

Rob, will check. I don't think she had an official position. I could be wrong.

Rob Crawford
Rob, will check. I don't think she had an official position. I could be wrong.

She had anything she wanted, up until the end.

Beasts of England

Nice comparative deflection, dude. Just tell me what happened. You'll save lots of precious erotemes and electrons.

Truthbetold

I told you what did not happen, and you can't wrap your tiny mind around it.

narciso

There are some similarities;

After the Communists took power, Ceaușescu worked as a secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was an unimportant figure until her husband became general secretary of the party. Starting in July 1972, Elena Ceaușescu was given various offices at senior levels in the Romanian Communist Party. In June 1973 she became a member of the Politburo of the Romanian Communist Party, becoming the second most important and influential person after Ceauşescu himself. She was deeply involved in party administration alongside her husband, and was one of the few spouses of a Communist Party boss to become a power in her own right.

It appears the exposure of Tbt is now complete. I declare tomorrow, which begins in 15 minutes, a Tbt free day, which should continue from now until forever. I 'm sure Hit can keep a running total of how many times he asks the same question. Eventually he will simply fade away.

Doesn't having respect for the dignity of a group mean not using them as political pawns? Shouldn't the members of said group be offended by that?

Danube on iPad

Mrs. Ceaucescu had a protracted and intimate relationship with the Danube of Thought. Details to be dribbled out for maximum salacious and lubricious effect.

Provided I get the right offers...

Truthbetold

Hurry up Jane, get that head of yours back in the sand.

Beasts of England

So you just can't tell me what happened? By your own words, you've eliminated one scenario. Fine. Just tell me what happened. In the mean time, I'll drop some blotter and let my tiny little mind expand...

Agreed, Jane. I'll give up in about ten minutes.

Captain Hate

Didn't Elena Ceaușescu receive a number of Romanian scientific or medical awards even though she was as scientifically illiterate as ManBearPig?

narciso

Despite leaving grammar school at the age
There were some questions, about how genuine those awards are;

Ceaușescu graduated from the University of Bucharest with a PhD in polymer chemistry and top in a class of 100 women with the honor of summa cum laude. Her thesis has 162 pages, 32 tables, 40 figures and 440 references and describes the invention of a very valuable artificial material.[10] Critics consider it unlikely that a textile worker — especially one whose formal schooling ended at 14 — would have been able to write a thesis in chemistry.[11] After the Revolution of 1989, several scientists have claimed that Elena had forced them to write papers in her name.[1] Claims have also arisen that the university gave her the honour of the doctorate solely because of her political position.

even engineers have entry level positions.

I think part of it is the "hacker" and "start up" culture that is leaking into the program at school. I think it was Hazlitt's book that mentioned one of the consequences of inflation is a "get rich quick" mentality...maybe something to look into when I have sometime.

You know, once the Plame thing was under investigation, I seem to remember that Bush couldn't discuss it with any of the principals, and that Colin Powell knew that armpit age was the source but they didn't tell Bush. Who would have thought that Powell would have been such a snake. And now, we see what a snake he is.

daddy

Veni Vedi Wiki.

This morning my youngest was in a Citywide High School competition for Latin 3. She had to recite 2 poems in Latin (Kickeronian inflexion).

The 2 poems were Catullus's "The Death Of Lesbia's Sparrow", and Horace's "In Praise of the Manly Life".

She has been walking around the house the last few days reciting out loud lines of the poems and I don't think I've enjoyed anything lately more than seeing her suddenly pausing in the kitchen or wherever, struggling to recall some bit of Latin verse, then blabbin' it out loud and rockin' on.

I don't know Latin, but I do hope she is not the last of my family lineage to know Latin. She loves it and digs the Romans.

Any of you guys have kids or grandkids wandering thru the house spouting Catullus?

daddy

Armpit age is, of course, Armitage.

Miss M,

I was laughing, thinking that was as funny a moniker as I'd ever heard for the weasel.

Gus

My brother got to know Powell a bit, or at least was around him quite a bit, while he was with Dr Rice. My brother isn't political at all, and is a former USAF Officer. He didn't like Powell at all.

I tried to bribe the Beastettes into taking Latin, daddy, but to no avail. I think they feared me showing up at their school in a toga to help with the conjugations.

Hey Beasts, you should have your HOFNER avatar for the 50th anniversary of The Beatles and Ed Sullivan. Or a Rickenbacher.

i've been gnawing on this since it is sunday morning and i don't much else to do.

Beasts of England

miss Marple

Night all.

Gus

Beasts, I LLLLLLLLLLLLOVE the BEATLES. As a child in Scotland, the Beatles were my earliest recollections. I play many many Beatles songs in my 2 bands, and in my Acoustic work.

daddy

It was cool Narciso in that on the way home in the car I had her do bits of the Latin first, then translate. That was great for me.

I have read a lot of Catullus in the past in translation, so I knew about Catullus's manic relationship with Lesbia. I mentioned to my youngest how a College friend in Grad School in Classics had just been dumped by a girlfriend and at the same time was having to translate Catullus, and it was all these horrible heart rending poems expressing his agony and hatred of Lesbia---poor guy. My youngest was aware of bits of that Catullus-Lesbia love affair breakdown, so she thought my College story was interesting and funny.

Then she said she'd had enough of Latin and she went thru my latin Jazz CD's and put on one of her favorite cuts' George Duke-Cravo E Canela
cranked it to the max, and we zipped down the road past the mountains on home.

She and I love riding around up here listening to loud upbeat tunes that we have no idea what the words mean.

daddy

if you take the ratio of a Fibonacci number to its predecessor, you will get a number that is either higher or lower than the golden ratio. But if it is higher, then the ratio of the next two will be lower

Nutty Question.

Since Pythagoras was also intent on analyzing musical notes as mathematics: 3rds, 5ths, 7ths (octaves) etc, for the music guys here:

Would it be possible to create a Musical Fibonacci sequence? Is there such a thing or is it even possible?

narciso

As hard as I try, can't be cynical enough.

Beasts of England

Ticket to Ride is awesome, Gus! I used to have a '66 Rickenbacker 330-12 in MapleGlo. Very first song I played on it. Once I got the darned thing tuned, that is...

My brother and I recorded a CD of four Beatles songs for our parents as a present many years ago. Back in the USSR, Hide Your Love Away, Norwegian Wood, and Golden Slumbers. Maybe I'll find a way to link it online one day. It was pretty good.

Gus

Narciso, I can be cynical. But I often find myself giving the benefit of the doubt to jerks because I don't see evil in them. Evil is as evil does. A stupid LION eats you children, just as an evil LION does.

daddy

Looks like a Musical Fibonacci Sequence has been asked before, but from the comments, not to everyone's satisfaction.

Fibonacci sequence in music

Gus

Weird music thought here Daddy. I was watching old Beatles black and white videos a couple days ago, and I realized that the VOICE cannot really make a chord, nor a minor or minor 7th etc note. But John, Paul and George all had 2 instruments in use nearly all the time. Specifically Paul more than any other. Paul had the Bass and his Voice. John and George just slightly less often. Paul sang so so many of the higher harmonies and a lot of lead. But the combination of the voices, the 2 guitars and the bass, created 6 different instruments. That makes for so many more combinations and variations of notes and minors etc. And they were all virtually self taught. A MINOR can only exist as a part of a chord.

daddy

Cool stuff, Gus.

Off with the dogs and to pick up relatives at the Airport. Cheers.

Threadkiller

You are correct, Jimmy.

Let me ask you this, if the banks did not defraud Freddie, Fannie, FHA and the VA with uninsurable products would there have been mass loans for stupid homeowners to eventually default on?

Ignatz

Has TBT figured out which part of the 130 page report on the collapse of WTC 7 is about the collapse of WTC 7 yet?
If he has has he read it?
Has he read the documentation of fires first breaking out on at least ten floors around 10:30 AM between floors 7 through 30 and burning out of control for hours on floors 7-14?

His inability to acknowledge a dopey eff up like denying the report is what it is seems kinda telling. Even somebody as stupid as me figgered it out, which has serious implications for his candlepower, I would think.
