Robin, not the 3rd Mrs. Paul Krugman

Snowing here right now, after the 5th snow/frigid temp/school cancelled day of the year.

Stephanie VIP shhhhh its fight club

Take this job and shovel it.

I'm slacking my way to success.

Miss Marple

5 1/2 inches yesterday. Weather did not tell us we would get nearly that much.

More snow tonight. They say 1-2 inches, but I am figuring they will be wrong about that, too.

henry

Sunny, not a cloud in the sky, and a balmy 0. Sky dragon will save us from all the shoveling in 3-400 years.

Miss Marple

Local news has a coyote warning because they are hungry and have been moving into subdivisions looking for food. (Central Indiana)

There is a warning up at my dog groomer's with a picture of a coyote and the admonition not to leave pets outside unattended. I already have to worry about the hawk who has his eyes on my daughter's small dog and who often can be found lurking at the top of a tree on my fence line.

The coyotes are hungry and looking for food. I feel like I am in some sort of apocalyptic movie.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

Yeah, MM. My neighborhood listserv has discussions about wonderful coyote & fox sightings. Aren't they beautiful! There's a fox family in my backyard...sooo cute!

Then the next day I'll see a post about a missing cat.
These same people pass out &/or threaten to sue if they see any dog crap. I guess the fox family must use a toilet or something.

Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself

""The court is compelled to conclude that Virginia's Marriage Laws unconstitutionally deny Virginia's gay and lesbian citizens the fundamental freedom to choose to marry. Government interests in perpetuating traditions, shielding state matters from federal interference, and favoring one model of parenting over others must yield to this country's cherished protections that ensure the exercise of the private choices of the individual citizen regarding love and family," Wright Allen wrote."

then this story -

http://www.frontpagemag.com/2014/dgreenfield/muslim-arrested-in-australia-after-trying-to-apply-for-spousal-benefits-for-12-year-old-wife/

Explain to me how THAT isn't going to happen here & why that guy shouldn't be allowed to marry whoever he "loves".

Miss Marple

Janet,, in my area coyotes and other wildlife follow creeks which cut through subdivisions and commercial areas. Those creeks usually have brush and trees on the banks so they can sneak by without anyone spotting them.

That's how the coyotes move from area to area. My sister actually saw one in her backyard (unfenced) running along the fence line of her neighbors' chain link, trying to get IN because their terrier was outside.

Normally they will stay away from humans, but there is now concern for kindergarteners waiting for the bus.

The people in Carmel who have tracks in their backyard don't think it's cute. The woman said "If I had wanted to live in the country with wild animals we would have moved there."

More signs we live in a Mirror Universe, she was one of the prosecutors, in Eastern District, which explains how cases like Moussaoui got fusterclucked, pardon my French.

narciso, Did it get CF'd, or was it sabotaged?

narciso

probably the latter, but seeing how Braven of the Journal, so breathlessly relates the efforts of Couch the Gitmo prosecutor who was fooled by every single one of those he was

Jim Eagle

USA 2 - Russia 1. PP goal.

Miss Marple

Is that a final score?

Jim Eagle

No, 10 minutes to go in 3rd period.

henry

US 2- Russia 1 in the third

narciso

Now 2-2 with 6 to go.

We found a coyote cub's carcass tangled up in our electric net fence we use to move the sheep around. My sheep come in to the barn every night because of it.

clarice

Ah, thanks. The WaPo has a delightful article about her on the front page, never mentioning she's an idiot with worthless paper credentials.

Jim Eagle

Wow, net was off its morrings. No goal. Not high stick.

Jim Eagle

With 1:32 to go USA goes on power play.

Miss Marple

WHAT? MSNBC went away from the hockey game?

Jim Eagle

Going to OT.

narciso

I think one needs to be struck with the hockey stick, many times, for that result o make sense, first mixing up the two, then missing
the point of the declaration, that government is not to meddle,

Old Lurker

I read the WaPo A1 profile far enough to see she has no creds and was appointed by Obama. Stopped reading at that point.

No soup for you, honestly:

OTOH Holder (Columbia) and Obama (Harvard) have creds from top law schools and have no greater understanding of or appreciation for the Constitution and rule of law.

AA is going to be our ruination if it isn't stopped.

Jim Eagle

He is toxic enough that he could qualify for Superfund money:

"The rejection of a key Democratic Party ally occurred despite President Barack Obama’s personal support for the unionization drive. Tennessee Republicans “are more concerned about German shareholders than American workers,” Obama said shortly before American workers shot down the unionization bid, according to the Detroit Free Press."

Do we add this to the Chicago Olympic bid?

Threadkiller

Obama is working of the ECL version of the Constitution.

I heard coyotes last evening on my property - unusual for this late in the winter. It's ok though. I own the night :)

Went skiing with my wife in 18" of east coast pow pow yesterday. First time in 14 yrs for us sans kids. Oh the possibilities, A sea of possibilities!

We think a coyote took cat #2 a couple of weeks ago. They are now protected. Animal control does nothing and they take 1-2 pets/week in our neighborhood.

Nothing a .223 won't solve, but that would be trouble.

rally is that so;

“We all have to agree with the law in America, whether we like it or not,” the judge said, according to the Virginian-Pilot. “Your beliefs, if they clash with American laws, are going to get you in trouble.”

--“Your beliefs, if they clash with American laws, are going to get you in trouble.”--

Except for unaccountable judges who can make the law into whatever their personal prejudice might be.

When the judges make the law agree with them rather than the Constitution or the people and the society they wish to live in, it should get them into trouble, of the lamp post and rope variety.

Threadkiller

USA WINS!

sbwaters

Oshie is impressive!

Jim Eagle

USA wins on P. J. Oshie's extra in the 8th. They only used him for the shoot out after the first 3. 5 shots and only one save on him. Fun game.

Threadkiller

"This game was tremendously tremendous" says the announcer.

A moment before the final shot he exclaimed "they don't teach that at hockey school!"

Captain Hate

The animal control dimwits around here are worse than useless. They really don't like it when I point out they're public servants and I'm the public.

I think that's tough but fair,

"tremendously tremendous"?

Not going to give him the human dictionary award.

I was just on the federal website that pushes curricula resources and the featured resource at that moment was 17 dates from Soviet History. It starts with the Bolshevik revolution in 1917.

I have seen no similar interest pushing dates from US history.

Clarice-another problem with AA is that it frequently seems to embitter the recipients. Too many recognize why they got in and that they simply cannot intellectually compete and it seems to further radicalize for wholesale transformation. Mediocre intellects never make anyone feel less capable.

When female attorneys were fairly rare, especially in the kind of corporate work I did, you would occasionally run into mediocre men who really resented bright women and they just oozed malevolent looks.

In law school there were no minorities on law review because that level of LSAT and grades at a Tier 1 state school sent minorities to the Ivy Leagues. I agree with Sowell, you get a mismatch everywhere with AA.

Ignatz

It was on CNBC.

Ignatz

--"This game was tremendously tremendous" says the announcer.--

Reminds me of Sam Posey's excited comment during a long ago Indy 500 when a large crash engulfed a good portion of the field on the first lap;

"....the enormensity of it all!"

It ought to be a word, and if you don't think too closely seems like it might even be one, but sadly is just the unfortunate melding of two.

Belmont Club this week pretty much calls the shot here:

Welcome to Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela, a country with the fifth largest oil reserves in the world and absolutely broke. It’s a remarkable achievement for Chavismo. A just-wow moment. Socialism is useless at everything except for smashing things in record time. There it excels. It’s hard to imagine that as late as the 1980s Venezuela had the highest standard of living in Latin America. But then in 1960 Detroit was the richest city in the world in per capita income. Now it’s well … Detroit.

Just like the poison pill of Lake Placid in 1980, the US hockey win could be Brock's downfall. It reminds Americans that they like to win.

Of course, since they HID the game on various obscure outlets, I don't know if it will have the same impact.

Your dear friend Laurie Mylroie said the following. Do you agree with what she said?

"Bin Laden and Saddam are working together; they're both in it together. But between Iraqi intelligence and Al Qaeda, the far more important party is Iraqi intelligence. Bin Laden also worked with Sudanese intelligence. That came out in the trial for the 1998 embassy bombing. Bin Laden works with the Taliban. He's not as important as we think. He does not work independently of a state, of a government. But because we have not seen the links, or perhaps not wanted to see the links between Osama bin Laden and various governments, we ourselves have attributed to him capabilities that he alone does not possess."

The FAA just decided to ban all Personal Electronic Devices (including Kindle's) from the cockpit. Since I'm pretty much the only guy I know who still totes around a bag-full of Library books, I think this will become the new most widely ignored rule in Aviation.

From the ruling itself which I read yesterday:

(At the hearing) pilots noted that for decades pilots have stayed mentally engaged and active during long flights with newspapers, magazines, books and crosswords. These crewmembers noted that these cruise activities enable flightcrew members to address boredom and fatigue. Additionally these commenters noted that now newspapers, magazines, books, and crosswords are replaced by E-readers and tablets...

The FAA responded:

The FAA notes that activities that promote mental engagement during operations at cruise altitude have a benefit of keeping a pilot engaged and alert. However as discussed in the NPRM there is a difference in the potential for certain activities to negatively impact a pilots situational awareness. The NPRM cited a study that noted that the high fidelity attributes of certain displays could be a causal factor that amplified the liklihood of display induced attentional tunnelling of pilots...

So no Kindles allowed.

The only thing more ludicrous than banning Kindles in cruise flight is being stupid enough to think that this will actually cause people to quit using Kindles in cruise flight.

Morons.
