5 1/2 inches yesterday. Weather did not tell us we would get nearly that much.
More snow tonight. They say 1-2 inches, but I am figuring they will be wrong about that, too.

Local news has a coyote warning because they are hungry and have been moving into subdivisions looking for food. (Central Indiana)
There is a warning up at my dog groomer's with a picture of a coyote and the admonition not to leave pets outside unattended. I already have to worry about the hawk who has his eyes on my daughter's small dog and who often can be found lurking at the top of a tree on my fence line.
The coyotes are hungry and looking for food. I feel like I am in some sort of apocalyptic movie.

Yeah, MM. My neighborhood listserv has discussions about wonderful coyote & fox sightings. Aren't they beautiful! There's a fox family in my backyard...sooo cute!
Then the next day I'll see a post about a missing cat.
These same people pass out &/or threaten to sue if they see any dog crap. I guess the fox family must use a toilet or something.

""The court is compelled to conclude that Virginia's Marriage Laws unconstitutionally deny Virginia's gay and lesbian citizens the fundamental freedom to choose to marry. Government interests in perpetuating traditions, shielding state matters from federal interference, and favoring one model of parenting over others must yield to this country's cherished protections that ensure the exercise of the private choices of the individual citizen regarding love and family," Wright Allen wrote."

Janet,, in my area coyotes and other wildlife follow creeks which cut through subdivisions and commercial areas. Those creeks usually have brush and trees on the banks so they can sneak by without anyone spotting them.
That's how the coyotes move from area to area. My sister actually saw one in her backyard (unfenced) running along the fence line of her neighbors' chain link, trying to get IN because their terrier was outside.
Normally they will stay away from humans, but there is now concern for kindergarteners waiting for the bus.
The people in Carmel who have tracks in their backyard don't think it's cute. The woman said "If I had wanted to live in the country with wild animals we would have moved there."

When the judges make the law agree with them rather than the Constitution or the people and the society they wish to live in, it should get them into trouble, of the lamp post and rope variety.

I have seen no similar interest pushing dates from US history.
Clarice-another problem with AA is that it frequently seems to embitter the recipients. Too many recognize why they got in and that they simply cannot intellectually compete and it seems to further radicalize for wholesale transformation. Mediocre intellects never make anyone feel less capable.
When female attorneys were fairly rare, especially in the kind of corporate work I did, you would occasionally run into mediocre men who really resented bright women and they just oozed malevolent looks.
In law school there were no minorities on law review because that level of LSAT and grades at a Tier 1 state school sent minorities to the Ivy Leagues. I agree with Sowell, you get a mismatch everywhere with AA.

Welcome to Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela, a country with the fifth largest oil reserves in the world and absolutely broke. It’s a remarkable achievement for Chavismo. A just-wow moment. Socialism is useless at everything except for smashing things in record time. There it excels. It’s hard to imagine that as late as the 1980s Venezuela had the highest standard of living in Latin America. But then in 1960 Detroit was the richest city in the world in per capita income. Now it’s well … Detroit.

Your dear friend Laurie Mylroie said the following. Do you agree with what she said?
"Bin Laden and Saddam are working together; they're both in it together. But between Iraqi intelligence and Al Qaeda, the far more important party is Iraqi intelligence. Bin Laden also worked with Sudanese intelligence. That came out in the trial for the 1998 embassy bombing. Bin Laden works with the Taliban. He's not as important as we think. He does not work independently of a state, of a government. But because we have not seen the links, or perhaps not wanted to see the links between Osama bin Laden and various governments, we ourselves have attributed to him capabilities that he alone does not possess."

The FAA just decided to ban all Personal Electronic Devices (including Kindle's) from the cockpit. Since I'm pretty much the only guy I know who still totes around a bag-full of Library books, I think this will become the new most widely ignored rule in Aviation.
From the ruling itself which I read yesterday:
(At the hearing) pilots noted that for decades pilots have stayed mentally engaged and active during long flights with newspapers, magazines, books and crosswords. These crewmembers noted that these cruise activities enable flightcrew members to address boredom and fatigue. Additionally these commenters noted that now newspapers, magazines, books, and crosswords are replaced by E-readers and tablets...
The FAA responded:
The FAA notes that activities that promote mental engagement during operations at cruise altitude have a benefit of keeping a pilot engaged and alert. However as discussed in the NPRM there is a difference in the potential for certain activities to negatively impact a pilots situational awareness. The NPRM cited a study that noted that the high fidelity attributes of certain displays could be a causal factor that amplified the liklihood of display induced attentional tunnelling of pilots...
So no Kindles allowed.
The only thing more ludicrous than banning Kindles in cruise flight is being stupid enough to think that this will actually cause people to quit using Kindles in cruise flight.
Morons.
