The difference Mark is that victory is likely to be the all time high point for Lehigh basketball. Duke has had so many more high points in its storied program and will likely have many more in the future.

Escorted by Peng Liyuan, the wife of President Xi Jinping, they visited the Forbidden City, and Friday stopped by a prestigious Beijing high school where first lady Obama rekindled the magic of PingPong diplomacy by volleying with a student and instructor.

“My husband plays. He thinks he’s better than he really is,” Mrs. Obama told a crowd of onlookers.

Do they ever not trash each other when they are apart?

Cecil Turner

I notice that when you google NCAA Basketball, the schedule that pops up with scores shows all upsets (or in the making) on the left hand side (Mercer/Stanford/Tenn over Duke/NM/Mass). Based on that extremely scientific observation, I'm going to have to pick EKU over Kansas and Cal Poly over Wichita State.

Hey, it could happen!

maryrose

That Duke /Mercer game was fabulous!
Mercer has not been to the dance since 1985. I love the underdog-Sorry Marko. Yes Duke has a history of doing this.
I wonder how long North Carolina will stay in?
All underdogs playing their hearts out. 4 overtime games thus far and a buzzer beater with Texas. As you can see I love March Madness. Didn't get to bed until 2:00 in the morning. Why do I feel like I am channeling H&R?

James D.

And authorizing the procedure for those charged with a felony strikes me as a reasonable threshhold.

Would you support a law mandating the destruction of the samples in the event that the charges were dropped, or the person acquitted?

centralcal

MM: Actually, until recently (well, last year sometime), Martosko was with Daily Caller (relying on my unreliable memory) before going to Daily Mail US.

One of the last remaining court battles over Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility has gone down in flames in a 7-2 decision by the Alabama Supreme Court to render “no opinion.”

However, the dissenting minority of Justice Tom Parker and Chief Justice Roy Moore concluded the case has serious constitutional significance, warranting an investigation of the qualifications of 2012 presidential candidates by Alabama’s secretary of state.

Moore wrote in his dissent that the circuit court should have granted the plaintiffs’ request to order the state secretary of state “to implement the natural-born-citizen requirement of the presidential-qualifications clause in future elections.”

Advantage, Danube.

Ok, I need help here. How does a team with a 13/19 record like Cal/Poly get to dance and Oregon State does not? SMU does not .

Cecil Turner

And once again: if a woman will do for 77 cents what a man will only do for a dollar, why would anyone hire a man?

"What about privacy? What about freedom?"

When you get yourself arrested for a felony, you forfeit a bit of both.

Is taking you picture an invasion of your privacy? No doubt. But it happens when you get arrested, and no one contends it shouldn't. Ditto fingerprints.

The "battle" of the First Ladies (snippets from a Telegraph UK story):

“Our First Lady is so graceful and elegant, leaving Michelle far behind,” said one critic. “We have won this time,” remarked another. “Ours is more refined and eye-catching,” said a third.

----

Both Mrs Obama and Mrs Peng steered well away from politics, and indeed barely spoke during their tour of the school, according to the reporters present.

----

“The US finds it hard to accept the Communism and nationalism of China, but can easily accept Chinese food, calligraphy and other culture,” said Shen Dingli, the head of the US Research Centre at Fudan university. “So after they have spent time together, eaten together and watched a show together, they will feel closer together and that may help the political process,” he said.

He added that the presence of the Obama girls and their grandmother would show the Chinese public that even America’s first family is “normal” and not “iron-fisted” as some Chinese believe.

Ah, diplomacy.

Raise your hand if you think Obama walks those dogs.

Waiting.....

I see we all agree.

jimmyk

"He thinks he’s better than he really is," Mrs. Obama told a crowd of onlookers.

The first true statement she has made since, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.” Though even more true out of context.

Threadkiller

Woks the dogs?

I see a show of hands.

Porchlight

MM, did she reply directly to you? Just asking because in the tweet she says "here" as if she is in China.

Don't you think it is weird?

MarkO

"inscrutable?" Well, my high school girlfriend was that.

"Get yourself arrested?" You have much more faith in the goodness of the "criminal justice system" than I have. It ain't quite so simple as that.

I side with that notorious liberal firebrand, Scalia, who wrote in dissent:

“The court has cast aside a bedrock rule of our Fourth Amendment law: that the government may not search its citizens for evidence of crime unless there is a reasonable cause to believe that such evidence will be found,” Scalia said from the bench.

In his dissent, Scalia wrote that the majority’s attempts to justify the use of DNA as an identification tool “taxes the credulity of the credulous.” He added, “Make no mistake about it: As an entirely predictable consequence of today’s decision, your DNA can be taken and entered into a national DNA database if you are ever arrested, rightly or wrongly, and for whatever reason.”

Other than this classless woman likes extravagant vacations on our dime and whines while doing so, which we already knew, this seems like a nothing burger.

Mooch however should keep her mama away from Barry if she in fact barks, as the story claims.

So West and Kardashian get dumped on by the Vogue readers, who no doubt would swoon if Michelle and Mom deigned to grace their covers. Or perhaps Michelle and Mom already have so deigned. Vogue is not at the top of my reading list.

Porchlight

And JPod/Poppin'Fresh wonder why people don't like Michelle.

Won't the WH permanent staff be just so thrilled to say goodbye to the Obamas just in time to say hello to the Clinton traveling circus? They will probably do anything they can to lose the election for Muffer.

Wonder if Poppin' Fresh has seen the Daily Mail dish on his favorite FL.

LOL, Porch. Must have been mental telepathy.

Porchlight

GMTA, Jim Rhoads. :)

Ignatz, sure, but it's not being billed as a vacation. It's being billed as "First Lady diplomacy" or some such.

But now at least we have a pretty good idea why the WH wanted reporters at a distance.

Captain Hate

How does a team with a 13/19 record like Cal/Poly get to dance and Oregon State does not? SMU does not .

I'm assuming Cal/Poly won their conference tournament and got an automatic bid. Oregon State, coached by Mooch's brother, was terrible all season. When they beat Maryland I was so depressed I went about two weeks of ignoring the Terps. SMU was probably the only controversial exclusion from the tournament and most people rationalized it by them playing an easy schedule.

centralcal

You know what is sad and pathetic? Jake Tapper's twitter feed and his show The Lead's twitter feed. For days now (weeks, possibly) a tweet every few seconds about da plane, da plane, da missing plane. And it is all repetitive, nothing new.

Jane

Mark,

For Janet, Walter if he's lurking and whoever else cheers for Virginia Tech, the Hokies picked up a good basketball coach in Buzz Williams from Marquette. Excellent snag imo.

Jim Eagle

MM,

I have been reading the Mail and Telegraph every day since my days in London. I use to read all the Brti papers because they are so comeptitive and so different in coverage and opinion. Heck I even remember when the Guardian was the Mancheseter Guardian.

The reporters and editors there as you probably know from the phone hacking kerffule are cuthroat and are always mining every source and doing real gumshoe work. But that said they get a lot wrong in trying to beat their competitors.

I love their enthusiasm but keep a bowl of salt nearby.

Thomas Collins

Cal Poly not only won the Big West tournament, but also has already beaten Texas Southern in a First Four game narrowing the field from 68-64. Thus, even if it loses today, Cal Poly will have won more NCAA men's basketball tournament games this year than Duke and Ohio State combined.

MarkO

No, Jane. Please repeat often.

You are loved back. Rock on.

China Daily sez:

When Mrs Obama, in an elegant color-blocked dress by Chinese-American designer Derek Lam, stepped out of the plane with her two teenage daughters Malia and Sasha and her mother Marian Robinson, dozens of reporters that had waited in the airport for hours incessantly clicked their camera shutters.

Though nobody from the delegation spoke to the media...The Twitter account Flotus, maintained by the White House first lady's office which stands for First Lady of The United States, quickly posted the arrival photo.

Jim Eagle

I could care less about Mrs. Obama and her kids.

She is an unrepentent anti-American leftist moocher on the taxpayer's dime. The fact she is so admired in polls should bother every person who values this country, its institutions and works hard to have 50% of their money taken away to support these Queens of entitlement.

About 175, Jack. On a few occasions. Wasn't paying really close attention to the speedometer, but could interpret the position closely enough on the dial.

Fastest I've ever been pulled over for by a cop is about 145. After I saw him and left off the gas, I was still doing 130 when I looked down to check. Trooper was far too nice and wrote me at 90...

Being 6'-4" has only been an impediment one time when shopping for fun cars, Ig. A few years ago, I went over to Atlanta where my dealer had found me a 365 GTB/4, aka Daytona, for purchase. It needed a little work, but I was willing to put the time and money into the project, as it was (and is) the ne plus ultra of vehicles for me.

After the walk-around, I hop in the driver's seat and am crushed. Literally and emotionally. Smallest car I've ever sat in. My left knee and leg couldn't even settle due to the door and firewall. It was so bad I didn't even take a test drive. Ugh.

On yesterday's topic of whether or not sexism has hosed women, in Australia their top female morning News Host has come out and shares Jane's attitude:

Working women must stop blaming men for their troubles, says Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr

Naturally she's taking incoming heat for her opinion:

Natalie Barr doesn't speak for all women

So you read the article by Natalie Barr yesterday where she asks working women to stop blaming men for their troubles and you want to tell her a few things. How she doesn’t have the first clue what feminism means (man bashing, really?). etc.

I consider myself a civil libertarian of the first water, but I don't get very exercised about my right not to have my DNA profile known. Why is it more inherently private than my blood type, ,my fingerprints or my retinal sca?. Or my facial likeness?

To denigrate the taking of DNA by saying "you don't have to worry if you haven't done anything wrong," while true, is a bit off the mark. That kind of statement is oftennmade in defense of, say, warrantless searches, but consider the difference: if a SWAT team wrongfully enters my house, I have very literally been invaded and quite likely terrified, along with my family. If my DNA is taken under erroneous pretenses, all that has been violated is some supposed right that no one knew I had until about thirty years ago.

Is it wrong to take a baby's footprint at birth?

MarkO-I share your misery but cannot bring myself to root for the heels. Right now I want every other favorite to lose. The bright side is that maybe (unlikely) Parker will stick around. After today's stinker his draft status may have slipped a few notches.

MarkO

Right or wrong to take DNA is not the question. Does it violate the 4th Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures?

The hospital takes the baby's footprint (except Obama's I suppose)to make certain the parents get the correct one or for identification on death. It is subject to Federal regulations that prohibit dissemination. Not so the gentle souls who break down your door while serving a warrant designated for the house next door. After they have wrongfully, but politely broken and entered, they can take your DNA. For what are they searching?

Please list the nefarious ways in which a baby's footprint might be used.

DNA use for legitimate police use can be had by application to a court and a warrant. What's wrong with that?

Captain Hate

K's successes in the past revolved around getting guys who bought into his program and stuck around for four years with a few one and dones tossed in. Now they're all one (or two) and dones. Rather than have a coherent offense they just crank up a lot of threes. None of this is K's fault other than going after blue chippers who won't stick around; in that regard he's hardly better than Calidago.
