The Crimea has a special place in Russian history. Per David Brooks, Putin has a much grander vision but right now, Putin seems to be offering Obama an off-ramp (rather than the other way around): accept the revised status quo, dial back the bloviating, and move on.
Sufficient unto the day are the snacks thereof for the Russian bear. By way of comparison, Hitler expanded Germany in patient steps over several years, remilitarizing the Rhineland in 1936, annexing Austria in the spring of 1938, and picking up the Sudetenland that fall.
If Putin really wants to bite off the eastern Ukraine, he need not hurry - Obama is unlikely to be a less lame duck in six months or a year. So Putin can let the world recalibrate to the new status quo and then impose a new recalibration when it suits his vision or political needs. Rome wasn't built in a day and the Ukraine won't be re-integrated in Greater Russia in a week. But it is hard to see why Putin would stop now, forever.
TROUBLING: Hillary Clinton Compares Russia Moves To Nazi Aggression. I'm on the same wavelength as Hillary?
GUTLESS: Perhaps fearing a Godwin's Law disqualification, Hillary backs off the Hitler talk. But wait a second! Comparing a tin-pot tyrant like Assad to Hitler has obvious flaws. But with Putin we are talking about the leader of a former superpower contemplating its former greatness and seeking a rematch. Why is the comparison to post-WWI Germany out of bounds there?
If clarice doesn't know all members of the Neocon Bund, the NYT is the paper of record.

Apparently there's a back story of one of the Dems stabbing Dingy Harry and JEF in the back. They needed the landrieu/hagan/Udaul/Warner votes to confirm the cop-hater with SloJoe's vote. All of those Dems need black votes in their elections, they were in a tough spot. Will Obummer make them vote for the cop-hater TWICE if they turn the back stabber? This is just too good.

With a daughter being married this summer and a niece and nephew sending their stories of an ocean side summer vacation, surprisingly, the encroachment of the state came to mind.
The progs want to destroy everything that is good. Whether it's the beauty of marital commitment, the innocence and self-direction of children day dreaming or playing on a beach, the rational use of resources for individual betterment, they want to destroy everything. It's mind, soul and body arson.
Many of you have been fighting the arsonists for sometime. Thank goodness for you and for this site. It's been a mind saver and inspiration. So, my Lenten commitment will be to discern the way I can join in the battle.
Fortunately, my/our parish is blessed with three extraordinary priests. They aren't gay AND they aren't Jesuits. Good, men of God who have awakened their flock just like the JOM band has done for the regulars and lurkers.
So thank you, Easter and Passover blessings to all of you.

Posted by: Old Lurker | March 05, 2014 at 03:52 PM
I get it. What you actually meant to say in the first was that all Jesuits are gay, but not all priests are gay. Because your wording could be interpreted to suggest that all priests are gay.
I just wonder how you are an expert at the sexual lives of priests?
Then again, I shouldn't wonder, after all you are such a marvelous expert, in so many things.
Maybe it is that new software that you use.

Posted by: Jeff Dobbs | March 05, 2014 at 03:55 PM
Tennant Bagley, the founder of Division, came from a prominent naval family, one member's ship sunk during the Spanish American war, at least one Admiral in the bunch,
It was founded somewhere around 1972, when he was station chief in Brussels

I only know what I know. And what I know I learned researching before sending my kids to Jesuit institutions for their educations. The 3 institutions are fabulous educational institutions for young people. The Jesuits in these institions are committed and disciplined educators, and moral exemplars. especially the ones at the all boys prep school my son went to. The fact that many have homosexual orientation doesn't prevent their good works, why should it? Denying the existence of homosexuality is as bigoted as false stereotypes, isn't it?

Sorry to be persistent, but lots of docs don't take Medicare/Medicaid, so if a bunch of them said "F*** off, this isn't what I went to med school for," what does the government do? Or are private insurers just falling into line like lemmings, or they have no choice?

She found coherence, not to say competence in Lurch's world salad, she excuses the one who carried out the 'reset' debacle;
Hillary Clinton had to prove, for personal and political reasons, that she could get along inside, play well with the other children, and be loyal to something besides the Clinton project. That was her agenda. For her, to get along was to go along as foreign policy came out of the White House. Kerry at the end of his career has no such imperatives. He only has to demonstrate that he is what he takes himself to be, a serious man looking to his nation’s interests. Anyway, you get a sense as you watch him that when the youngs in the White House call to give him talking points he doesn’t jump and say yes.

Friedman at the NYT has the answer for dealing with Russia;
"It requires going after the twin pillars of his regime: oil and gas. Just as the oil glut of the 1980s, partly engineered by the Saudis, brought down global oil prices to a level that helped collapse Soviet Communism, we could do the same today to Putinism by putting the right long-term policies in place. That is by investing in the facilities to liquefy and export our natural gas bounty (provided it is extracted at the highest environmental standards) and making Europe, which gets 30 percent of its gas from Russia, more dependent on us instead."
Yes, I am with you, but then;
"I’d also raise our gasoline tax, put in place a carbon tax and a national renewable energy portfolio standard — all of which would also help lower the global oil price (and make us stronger, with cleaner air, less oil dependence and more innovation)."
So close...

I've mentioned we wouldn't have net BOzocare damage numbers until the BlueGovIns fascists had to file their 10-Ks. I missed the WellPoint filing on Feb 20 but it certainly confirms my suspicions. WellPoint is the largest individual health care insurer, holding 17% of the market. They had 1.855 million lives covered by policies in force at the end of 2012, 1.755 million at the end of 2013, after round one of 404Care. That's a 5.4% drop and it would mean a total drop of 600K, if applied nationally.
There is a possibility WellPoint missed its price points and just lost share but I wouldn't call it a strong possibility.
The President's announcement today, allowing existing policies to remain in force for two more years, should be read in the context of the previous cancellations having resulted in fewer people in total having medical coverage as well as it being a butt cover for 60th vote Progressive Fascist incumbents who just won't stop sobbing.
