On the future of the ObamaCare debate:
Our guess is that the debate over whether the debate over ObamaCare is over will be over on Nov. 5.
Can't argue with that.

JPOD is almost laughing at JFingK in this piece:
Kerry said something striking on Tuesday night: “I’m not going to get into the who, why, what, when, where, how of why we’re where we are today.”
Note he used the word “why” twice in this sentence, which is a dead giveaway that it’s the thing he really doesn’t want to get into. That’s because the answer is simple, and entirely devastating to his cause: The Palestinians don’t want a deal.
This is almost impossible for him and others like him to understand — in the same way that they find Vladimir Putin’s territorial grab in Crimea impossible to understand.
Kerry said with disbelief that Putin was acting like a 19th century man in a 21st century world, without grasping that Putin is trying to readjust the 21st century world to accommodate his 19th century vision of an expanding nationalist Russia.
Similarly, Kerry can’t grasp why Palestinian leaders would be utterly uninterested in making a deal with Israel that would give them a sovereign state. But it’s been clear for nearly 15 years that they have no interest in the burdens of statehood. They prefer outright war or cold war, and the continued immiseration and statelessness of the Palestinian people.
They don’t want to bear the responsibility for the conditions under which Palestinians live and the necessity of designing a conventional relationship between Palestine and its democratic neighbor on tedious but necessary issues like the use of water, natural resources, air space and maintaining border security.
That is why the new option of establishing a virtual Palestine — a state that exists only in the corridors of international institutions but not on the ground — is so alluring to them. It provides all the trappings of statehood and none of the obligations. It is the state granted by the Wizard of Oz, the equivalent of the diploma handed to the Scarecrow to provide him with external evidence of the brain he lacks.
There’s your “why.” Answers to the other questions Kerry refused to address — the who, what, when, where, and how of this disaster Kerry has visited upon himself — await a political satirist of the highest order.

Gibbs predicts employer mandate will be killed
http://www.benefitspro.com/2014/04/02/gibbs-predicts-employer-mandate-will-be-killed
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— A former longtime advisor to President Barack Obama predicted Wednesday that the employer mandate — a key piece of Obamacare — will not survive.
So, will Obamacare's popularity go up or down when people have a mandate, but "corporations" don't?

My problem is that their are two Obamacares. There is the original fantasy Obamacare. That one was going to save the average family $2400 a year in premiums, lower the cost of all health care, improve the economy, reduce the budget, and have us all farting rainbows.
The other Obamacare is the one we got. That one will cost the treasury over $2 trillion and INCREASE premiums by more than $2400 for the average family, reduce the quality of healthcare while simultaneously reducing availability.
I agree that we should stop debating the original fantasy Obamacare. That has about as much merit as debating the fantasy "spontaneous" attack on our diplomats in Libya.

MaxB-- why should we ever let the LIVs forget the lies that the Dems sold in 2009-2010? They promised unicorn farts and all we got was the farts. $2T of new debt to pay for churning individuals from their own chosen plan to ObummerCare by kicking 5.5M off of their plan by banning it, add 1-2M previously uninsured with subsidies, add 1M 23-26yo to the parents plans becasue the kids can't get jobs, add 2-3M to medical welfare (medicaid) and soon tens of millions will be kicked off group employer plans when the mandate kicks in (why do you think Bobby Gibbs says the employer mandate must go!-- it kills HildaBeast) all the while everyone else's premiums go up. We should never ever let the voters forget what Obummercare has done to them.

Nov. 5 is the date the first political casualty reports for the 404Care Progressive Plague will be issued but it just marks the end of the beginning. He knows Obummer is trying to run them out of the Party.

Rick,
I think this is a trial balloon for how the progs will take removing the Employer Mandate. They know that if they go through with implementation, the cancelation letters will make last fall look like a picnic. But the progs are wedded to the employer mandate and making companies "do the right thing." They put themselves in this box, now they are seeing if they can talk their way out of it.

Ranger/RickB-- for me Gibbs/employer repeal is a symptom Dem war between the Obummer Progs and old white Lib Clintonistas for control of the Party. The Clintonistas are desperate to delay/suspend/kill the employer andate because it kills HildaBeast in'16.

Of course both the Clintonista and the hardcore Progs are both enemies of freedom, both economic and political. But they are simultaneously competitors with each other. Personally I hope the Third World oriented Progs win the Dem Party; then we'll have clear choices between a conservative party and Prog Party. Look what that clarity has done in France.

Posted by: Danube on iPad | April 03, 2014 at 12:48 PM
What good does removing the employer mandate do? If all health plans must meet the ACA minimums, price increases will cause massive numbers of employers to drop their plans. Without grandfathering all employer plans at pre-ACA coverages DOOM is assured. The impact of ACA on premiums makes coverage unaffordable for the employers -- cancelling a mandate to penalize them for dropping insurance makes it more likely they will drop insurance. If this sets anything up for Hillary! it is a second bite at single payer (because the evil corporations put profits over health care).
Posted by: henry | April 03, 2014 at 12:50 PM
hence the HellRaiser reference, of course they had to delay the mandate, Atkinson's short piece did much better then Milbank's blather on the subject,
Posted by: narciso | April 03, 2014 at 12:52 PM
Henry-- my guess is that what Gibb/Clintonistas want to do (pre-2016) is revoke the mandate and grandather all employer plans to minimize the effect on employer premiums and employers dumping insurance altogether. They hope they squeak by in '16, wait for the Repubs to screw up and lose the House/Senate again, then they vote in SP. That's just to guess though, I have a hard time thinking up evil Dem plans.
Posted by: NK(withnewsoftware) | April 03, 2014 at 12:56 PM
Well in practice, it doesn't work that way, the grandfathered plans become more expensive,
because that was the way was designed,

That's cuz busting up the lifeboats to feed the boiler to run the pumps which aren't keeping up with the water flooding in indicates a certain lack of forethought. They don’t want to bear the responsibility for the conditions under which Palestinians live and the necessity of designing a conventional relationship between Palestine and its democratic neighbor
I think the bigger factor is that they don't want to recognize Israel, and therefore don't want established borders (other than borders that obliterate Israel, of course). Their goal is one state, not two.

Hey don't look at me, i don't make up these Dem plans. I agree that suspending the employer mandate and grandfathered plans will not 'work' because I doubt the insurers will offer grandfathered plans, and many employers are sick of Obummercare and will bail on medical coverage anyway. But of course the Dems don't care about whether it 'works' just the votes in '14 and '16. This is just part of the 'fix it' meme. I continue to believe ObummerCare was a poisoned chalice for the Dems.
