NY Times columnist Gail Collins derails my train of thought by leading with my personal fave among the great misquotes of screen and stage:
Alas, poor J.D. Winteregg. We knew him ... um, actually not very well at all.
Alas, poor Ms. Collins - she doesn't know her Shakespeare, either, although she is familiar with the common misquote. Of course the line is "Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio".
The rest of the column seems to be bashing some Tea Partier who just lost a primary to John Boehner, or wacky viral videos, or something. It's possible she has a point, but what are the odds? And who wants to risk eyeburn by reading on to find out? Not I!
'it was a tale of sound of fury, signifying nothing, told by an idiot

Well, my fave remains "Wherefore art thou Romeo?" . . . which isn't really even a misquote.
I wish I'd known privilege covered the article; but for those who are tempted, no, there really isn't a point hidden away at the end.

Dems won't call Muslim terrorists "terrorists". But they have no problem calling TEA Partiers "terrorists".
Could it be any clearer whose side they're on?

Not too sure about this privilege thing . . . If it won't get me into Princeton, or out of reading the NY Times, what good is it?

I pass my days peacefully without reading Gail Collins.
To paraphrase Satchel Paige who gave the following advice to young ballplayers, "The social ramble ain't restful"--reading Gail Collins (or any other part of the bilge in the New York Times) ain't restful. In Paul Krugman's case, it's not only not restful, it's revolting.

I agree with Jane. TomM has gone all Shakespearean on Gail Collins' incredibly white, arrogant, cellulte puckered, ass.
Bravo Zulu Tom.

"You think I come here for the golf tips?"
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas.
A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking.
So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? "Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga."
So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness."
So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Gowdy should just throw the question right back at Tapper! Why doesn't the MFM care as much about Benghazi as the Iraq intel?
Posted by: Janet - the districts lie fallow, while the Capitol gorges itself | May 08, 2014 at 12:39 PM
Is this the Jake Tapper that people like Maybee insist is somebody "we can work with"? I've worked with a lot of a-holes, if that's what she meant...
Btw, I'm not clicking on any Carlos Slim links but how did the title of David Foster Wallace's humongous book get in the post title?
Posted by: Captain Hate | May 08, 2014 at 12:57 PM
Janet - I just tweeted your question to The Anchoress (who linked Mediaite) and Jake Tapper.
Posted by: centralcal | May 08, 2014 at 01:11 PM
I would ask Tapper how many hearings, leaks, and general investigations he wants for Iraq intelligence, since it seems to me we had a boatload.
Perhaps he should go ask British Intelligence or German Intelligence, which had the same information.
Gowdy wasn't even in Congress then. How in the heck is this relevant to anything?
I would ask Tapper myself but unfortunately he blocked me about 3 years ago for criticizing him.
Posted by: Miss Marple | May 08, 2014 at 01:20 PM
I stopped following Tapper after he reverted to form. Even reporters should be curious. He's not.
Posted by: MarkO | May 08, 2014 at 01:33 PM
Tapper falling back into Prog JuiceBox line, IMO, shows how serious Benghazi is to the Progs/HildaBeast. They will all stall and mock continuously, the Benghazi truth is the enemy to these characters.
Posted by: NK(withnewsoftware) | May 08, 2014 at 01:37 PM
I was more struck by the uncharacteristically weak response from Gowdy. I hope he's ready the next time the question comes up.
