"Conviction, too?"

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I think there are many, many Senate Dems who would be outraged, and they're not big fans of this guy anyway.

"Would people take up arms if they found a way to shut down Fox News?"

I doubt it (whom would they shoot?), but it will never come to that. First, they couldn't find such a way; second, it would all be enjoined within hours.

First, they couldn't find such a way; second, it would all be enjoined within hours.

They'd just argue it's part of a conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws, and commercial speech to boot, and shop for a judge who'll give them what they want.

I'm impressed by your faith in the legal profession, though.

RC,

I don't think it's paranoia and the millions of Americans who have armed themselves post BOzo's election don't either. If a herd of Traytables want to go out and win their very own Darwin Award, it's quite OK with me. I just believe it's mostly illusion to satisfy the 13%ers. We should know in a month or so.

Funny and timely story from tonight: went to a birthday bash for a friend in a local band with a few hundred folks in attendance and guess who was there? Haha. The girl from the car insult / comment. Of course, she can running up to me and was just carrying on. I absolutely laughed to myself.

She was with an older, very attractive woman. Her mother! After she introduces us, the Mom says: 'Oh, you're Paul!' So, me being me, I proceeded to ignore the daughter and pay an obvious and obscene amount of attention to the Mom. Hehe. Got drinks for her and everything - but not for the daughter.

And the friend who suggested the text message was watching and loving the whole episode. After I left, the friend sent me a text that said 'U know UR my hero! God I luv U!' Hehe.

Captain Hate

as for the Lerner layup, aren't there incident reports when you have a system crash,

Of course; the nomenclature might differ in companies but a problem ticket is created which is prioritized by how disruptive the incident is to the application working properly. People would be assigned to resolve it and what they do, successful or otherwise, is documented continually so that you have a trail of what happened and who did what.

MarkO

Baksheesh.

I've seen two things on old TV shows this week that are, honestly, terrifying.

The first was Burt Reynolds choking the life out of Star Trek's Scotty on "Gunsmoke".

The second was Mark Hamill singing and dancing on "The Muppet Show".

Amazing timing, BoE! I wonder if your thoughts about her conjured up her appearance at the party :)

Beasts of England

She's a big fan of the band (Snake Doctors) as am I, BR, so I was not at all surprised that she was there. Was a little surprised that her mother was there, but the group attracts an older crowd, as they've been around for about 20 years...

No, it's a local store owned by some very influential Gwinnettians. It was a big deal when it opened in Grayson last year. First month it did over a million in sales and hasn't dropped off yet.

Guess I'm drinking rum this weekend.

They do a really good Cruzon Rum drink at the club that's served in 20 oz buckets with about 6 different flavored rums and a little pineapple and orange juice so, I guess I'll call the bartender and get the recipe. The ladies call em Fuckit Buckets. Don't know what Cruzon calls em but they are tasty, highly addictive and will put you on your ass in a heartbeat.

If you can't make a margarita in this weather, it's the next best thing. Particularly after working in the yard all day.

Being an American or Briton now means nothing more than having a passport with those words printed on the front. Like your computer Browser western societies have no inherent sense of state. There is no thing-in-itself. Data is injected from somewhere and the browser re-renders itself and morphs into something else. In that world being an American is no more different than being anyone else...

Jack is Back! (But in Typhus Hell)

Buon Giorno!p

At our hotel in Rome as decided to forgo our friend of a friend's apartment - too small and 3 floors up without lift. We have an apartment just across the small street Via Arcione near the Barberini Metro Station and Trevi Fountain. Pretty quaint and with a 2 bed unit with kitchen and 2 bathroom we are in like Flynn.

Rome is buzzing. The American kids are out of school and family's are all over the place along with lots of Asians, mostly Korean and Chinese. The lines at the Vatican Museum as we drove in from Citivecchia were very long and crowded.

After lunch we are off for a quick walk over to the Spanish Steps and shopping on Via Condotti.

Tonight Rome will be electric as Italy plays Costa Rica.

Ciao!

Can we count the Chamber of Commerce as Top Men?

I got an email from them promoting their Brett Favre ad for Thad Cochran.

This is . . . well, let's just say they veered very close to Susan Rice territory.

Good grief(™ rich).

Dear Friend,

There are only 138 days until the November elections and the U.S. Chamber is active in key races, more aggressively and earlier than ever before on behalf of candidates who have the ability to win and the courage to govern.

One of those key races is in the Mississippi Senate runoff, where the Chamber is all in for proven, conservative champion Senator Thad Cochran. Thad has dedicated his life to fighting for Mississippi families and jobs, and has served with honor and dignity. His reelection is critical to ensuring we expand our pro-business majority in the U.S. Senate and fire Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.

This week, the U.S. Chamber launched its second ad in support of Thad, with the latest featuring NFL football legend and Mississippi native Brett Favre.

Or maybe the Chamber is cutting an ad with Bowe Bergdahl to endorse Cochran next?

More from Wreckard today:

Perhaps the only way forward is to go farther than the left has dreamed; to go right past the death of nationality into the birth of the individual. Maybe the future will belong to affinity groups. One of the most interesting responses to Obamacare has been the rise of affinity-based health care groups. ... Tucker is part of a small but growing group of Americans whose opposition to the Affordable Care Act is spurring them to seek out alternatives, choosing once-fringe methods to pay for their medical care in an effort to skirt the many requirements the law imposes on the private health insurance market. ... The result is a burgeoning business among brokers, clinics and insurers that are advertising themselves as a way to avoid the sweeping federal program. The options range from Christian co-ops such as Tucker’s to membership-based primary-care clinics to insurance policies that cover specific diseases, such as cancer.

It’s detractors call it “junk coverage”, but one wonders if that isn’t the future. Perhaps it is the collapsing state which has become junk itself. For when you are left without tribe, when the family is denigrated and country becomes equivalent to bigotry, what are you left with but yourself and your friends? President whoever becomes a distant voice on the radio and soon, you switch it off. The last thing a man loses is not his party affiliation but his name.

I couldn't agree more. Another powerful "affinity group" is Christian homeschoolers who barter services and support each other in many ways beyond teaching.

How to royally piss off a federal judge lesson 1, by the John Doe DAs.

In a scorching critique, U.S. District Court Judge Rudolph Randa verbally hammers the prosecutors in a politically charged John Doe investigation for seeking “refuge in the Court of Public Opinion, having lost in this Court of law.”

Randa in his ruling Thursday said their position is “at odds with their duty as prosecutors, which is to see that in any John Doe proceeding the rights of the innocent accused are protected in pursuit of a criminal investigation.”

Yes DAs, this is the guy who will assign damages -- kiss your banks accounts, pensions, assets, and law licenses goodbye!

Clinton Donor Bans Free Beacon From University of Arkansas Archives

A Hillary Clinton donor who serves as dean of the University of Arkansas libraries has banned the Washington Free Beacon from the school’s special collections archives, after the news outlet published revealing stories about Hillary Clinton based on documents available at the university library.

The ban came days after the Free Beacon ran a story about Clinton’s 1975 defense of a child rapist that drew from audio recordings available at the University of Arkansas library’s special collections archives.

Rape victim claims Hillary Clinton smeared her, lied in court documents

The victim’s allegation that Clinton smeared her following her rape is based on a May 1975 court affidavit written by Clinton on behalf of Thomas Alfred Taylor, one of the two alleged attackers, whom Clinton was appointed to defend.

“I have been informed that the complainant is emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing,” Clinton, then named Hillary D. Rodham, wrote in the affidavit. “I have also been informed that she has in the past made false accusations about persons, claiming they had attacked her body. Also that she exhibits an unusual stubbornness and temper when she does not get her way.”

Clinton also wrote that a child psychologist told her that children in early adolescence “tend to exaggerate or romanticize sexual experiences,” especially when they come from “disorganized families, such as the complainant.”

The victim vigorously denied Clinton’s accusations and said there has never been any explanation of what Clinton was referring to in that affidavit. She claims she never accused anyone of attacking her before her rape.

“I’ve never said that about anyone. I don’t know why she said that. I have never made false allegations. I know she was lying,” she said. “I definitely didn’t see older men. I don’t know why Hillary put that in there and it makes me plumb mad.”

Bad Free Beacon!

IRS commissioner: You know, e-mail isn’t necessarily an “official record”

In discussing document retention at the IRS, it is important to point out that our email system is not being used as an electronic record keeping system. Furthermore, it should be remembered that not all emails on IRS servers or backup tapes qualify as an “official record,” which is defined (in 44 U.S.C. 3301) as any documentary material made or received by an agency under federal law or in connection with the transaction of public business and appropriate for preservation. Accordingly, our agency’s email system is not designed to preserve email. Rather, email that qualifies as “records” are printed and retained in compliance with relevant records control schedules. Individual employees are responsible for ensuring that any email in their possession that qualifies as a “record” is retained in accordance with the requirements in the Internal Revenue Manual and Document 12990 (Record Control Schedules).

not all emails on IRS servers or backup tapes qualify as an “official record”
Posted by: Extraneus | June 20, 2014 at 09:34 AM

This is, in fact, true and not just an attempt at spin. The rules and regs covering Official Documents is not based on the media or application, but on subject and content. It's very very hard to be able to tell at a generic level for a person outside a given organization, whether an email would fall under strict document retention rules or not.

It's also hard for those INSIDE an org to tell. That's why most orgs have tiered retention policies that apply the strictest protocols to "everything is official" to certain departments and department heads, and lesser, item-specific retention protocols to other departments and lower level staff.

Pretty sure Lerner ought to be classed in the "everything is official" protocol... but I could be pursuaded otherwise if they'd only stop running away yelling "squirrel ate my homework" and spell out what protocols they actually were required to have in place for HER.
