Radley Balko has more on the absurd case of Shaneen Allen, a Pennsylvania mom facing three years in a Jersey jail for bringing her Pennsylvania-legal handgun into the Garden State.
But just to elevate the old blood pressure let's hear from Bryan Miller of Heeding God's Call, who apparently thinks that God wants this 27 year old mother of two in prison:
Recent reporting in the Courier-Post and elsewhere has made much of the plight of a South Philadelphia woman, Shaneen Allen, reportedly charged in New Jersey with transporting and concealing a handgun loaded with armor-piercing bullets — three transgressions of long-standing state law.
Heeding God’s Call, the faith-based and grass-roots movement to prevent gun violence headquartered in Philadelphia and operating in New Jersey and other states, applauds the fact of the coverage, if not all of its tone.
The good news is that, by working to promote attention to this case, pro-gun zealots, such as Allen’s lawyer, have inadvertently done an important public education service, as the case’s notoriety may make it less likely Pennsylvanians holding permits to carry concealed and loaded handguns in public will bring them across Delaware River bridges, thereby making themselves and New Jersey safer from gun violence.
Yeah, it's those rampaging moms I worry about when I hit the mean streets of Jersey. And far be it from me to suggest that this guy has no idea what he is talking about, but... every other report I have seen (e.g., here) describes her bullets as "hollow point". Although I would consider myself a very casual observer of the gun scene, (as family members will attest, and they know who they are), I am highly confident that "armor piercing" is essentially the opposite of "hollow point".
Maybe the next time Bryan hears from God he can clear that up.
Interesting events over in the Ukraine people.

Unless that brainless twit wants to kill cops, she doesn't have any legitimate reason to use armor piercing ammunition in a pistol. Hollow points in a pistol are practical only at close range. The higher costs of both of which exceed theit values.

"Armor piercing" undoubtedly merely means full metal jacket.
I didn't see what type of handgun she had but it is very common and in my opinion advisable to use full metal jacket rounds in semi autos because they are less prone to jam.
I use full metal jacket exclusively in my 45s.
And of course many criminals are in possession of body armor and round nosed FMJ pistol ammo is not particularly armor piercing in any event, so the idea that these are "cop killer bullets" is, how should I put it, retarded and ignorant.
I do use hollow points in my 9MMKurtz because it is a relatively weaker round.
Moreover for the effective range of self defense handguns, hollow points are perfectly satisfactory and if they disable an attacker who otherwise might kill or maim you their cost is quite cheap. Hollow points are fine in a revolver.

When the CMS director asked the WH & HHS to delete email, she meant to first Delete it, then go into the Deleted Items folder and permanently delete it from there.
Why is this even allowed in the taxpayers' email systems?
I predict that this will no longer be an option on gov't email systems if a Republican administration is sworn in after 2016, and that new procedures will be in place for permanent backups.

There is a picture of the suspect shot dead in the street. How did he get there from the police car? What did he do in the street to warrant being shot?
Well, if the allegations are true, he assaulted the officer in the car and tried to get his gun. Then got out and tried to run away. That typically gets you shot under the laws of many if not most states.
Hannity had Brown's family's lawyer on yesterday. I think it's the same guy who represented Trayvon's folks. He was asked if the picture changes if it was true (as was rumored even before today's news) that there was a struggle for the gun in the car. He said yes, it did.
And he was pretty nice and agreed with a lot of Hannity's points. Not argumentative at all.
And Obama was so sullen in his press conference about it. Not all on fire like the left wanted him to be.
It's....almost like they knew ahead of time that the facts, once released, were not going to support the narrative.

Given the language in the complaint filed in California where the feds intervened this summer on behalf of ELL, this gets back to my point that these interlopers from central america may not have legal citizenship but they are to have special economic privileges from the get-go. Plus the feds do not want anyone to be able to effectively challenge those who do vote.

NK,
It's more likely BOzo will call for an emergency supplemental for the Department of Education (call it the Dreaming Gordito Act). He isn't disclosing where the gorditos are being shipped so he can use the money as needed for the Dem GOTV effort in November. If the nasty GOP House won't fund Dreaming Gorditos, he'll use the refusal to whip Hispanics. He will also use the "emergency" as justification for illegally diverting DoE money to hire Hispanics as "helpers". They will 'help' by being given precinct lists and whips.

Posted by: Porchlight | August 15, 2014 at 01:38 PM
henry,
Hollow point bullets are used in handguns to increase handguns' stopping power. The hollow point bullet is designed to mushroom on impact thereby increasing the size of the wound channel in the target and dumping more (if not all) of the bullet's energy into the target than would be dumped if the bullet simply passed through the target.
There is an enormous can of worms containing months or years of discussion on several tangents about hollow points, but I stick by my limited description
As for the fragmenting bullets you mentioned, those were designed and marketed as "safer" with respect to over penetration and ricochets:

One thing to consider with the whole Ferguson thing is that, although there are a lot of facts we don't know (or, at least, that haven't been reported), and a lot of blame cast when it shouldn't have been, and the officer's reputation is probably forever tarnished...
I'd say that, aside from racial tensions and the MSM's always-irresponsible behavior, government and law enforcement at every level, Federal, state and local, have done SO much over time to squander public goodwill and destroy trust in them, that it's not unreasonable for the public to prematurely blame the police and not wait for the facts.
The disregard in which lawmakers hold the citizenry is displayed pretty much every day. Laws are passed that don't make sense, and which are applied unevenly, and which NEVER seem to apply to those in power. Police overstep the bounds of law and Constitution.
Is it any wonder that people don't trust any of them, even when the facts ARE on their side?

I don't think it's fair to conflate the actions of local law enforcement with the actions of local, state and Federal government.
How a smallish community handled the atypical escalation of riots, looting and national media attention (not to mention the specter of US DOJ attention) is a completely separate issue from the facts of the case that sparked the outrage.
It is ALWAYS prudent to wait until the facts of the case come out. ALWAYS. Duke, Trayvon, the list goes on and on. We should know better.

Let me get this straight, all black teams in the 30s is a sign of historic racism. All black teams now is a sign of historic what? Racial harmony?
Would an all white team now also be a sign of historic racial harmony?
Who would even notice this sh*t if the modern day Jim Crows didn't point it out?

The rest of the story will come out with the postmortem tox screen. I suspect Angel Michael was fueled with crack or meth and it may have affected his judgement just a tad.

Ignatz-- the ChiTown LL team is a big deal because it is a rare big city team, and almost unprecedented a big city team made up entirely of kids from black neighbs. These particular kids come from a league heavily subsidized by NY Met Curtis Granderson, who is a super guy. Personally I hope they win the thing, and more importantly, behave well, win or lose. MLB/ESPN are desperate to get AA kids back into baseball after they began dropping out starting 30 years ago. Baseball needs them... and that's a good thing IMO.
