Radley Balko has more on the absurd case of Shaneen Allen, a Pennsylvania mom facing three years in a Jersey jail for bringing her Pennsylvania-legal handgun into the Garden State.
But just to elevate the old blood pressure let's hear from Bryan Miller of Heeding God's Call, who apparently thinks that God wants this 27 year old mother of two in prison:
Recent reporting in the Courier-Post and elsewhere has made much of the plight of a South Philadelphia woman, Shaneen Allen, reportedly charged in New Jersey with transporting and concealing a handgun loaded with armor-piercing bullets — three transgressions of long-standing state law.
Heeding God’s Call, the faith-based and grass-roots movement to prevent gun violence headquartered in Philadelphia and operating in New Jersey and other states, applauds the fact of the coverage, if not all of its tone.
The good news is that, by working to promote attention to this case, pro-gun zealots, such as Allen’s lawyer, have inadvertently done an important public education service, as the case’s notoriety may make it less likely Pennsylvanians holding permits to carry concealed and loaded handguns in public will bring them across Delaware River bridges, thereby making themselves and New Jersey safer from gun violence.
Yeah, it's those rampaging moms I worry about when I hit the mean streets of Jersey. And far be it from me to suggest that this guy has no idea what he is talking about, but... every other report I have seen (e.g., here) describes her bullets as "hollow point". Although I would consider myself a very casual observer of the gun scene, (as family members will attest, and they know who they are), I am highly confident that "armor piercing" is essentially the opposite of "hollow point".
Maybe the next time Bryan hears from God he can clear that up.
Here's something I read a few years back that may help with understanding the police mindset about robbers. It's possibly NSFW for language and for the fact that it's posted on a gun discussion board:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1285487_Street_robberies_and_you___The_Basics.html
While the post there is specifically about armed robbery, the size difference between Brown and the clerk apparent in the surveillance video makes me wonder how much of a difference there really is between armed robbery and this particular strong-arm robbery.

So the video show MB entering/leaving the scene of the robbery with 2 compadres, one presumably Dorian Johnson. IBT quoted Johnson extensively yesterday:
..............................................
"It was around 1:40, two o'clock [no, it wasn't]. We were walking down the street, empty street. We were just walking down, minding our business. We're both headed home, and the officer's approaching us, and as he pulled up on the side of us, he didn't say 'freeze,' 'halt,' or nothing like we were committing a crime. He said, 'Get the f--- on the sidewalk!' I told the officer we were not but a minute away from the destination,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the officer then opened his car door, grabbed Brown’s neck and attempted to pull him through the window of the police car. He added that Brown “never once attempted to grab for the officer's weapon."
"The second time he says, 'I'll shoot,' a second later the gun went off and he let go. That's how we were able to run at the same time," Johnson said. He said he ran behind a car while the officer fired at them, shooting Brown in the back [oops].
Johnson continued, "[Brown’s] hands immediately went into the air and he turned around to the officer. My friend started to tell the officer that he was unarmed and that he could stop shooting. Before he could get his second sentence out, the officer fired several more shots into his head and chest area. He fell dramatically into the fatal position. I did not hear once he yell 'freeze,' 'stop' or 'halt.' It was just horrible to watch."
.............................................
Sorry for the long quotes, but isn't Johnson's manner of speaking/word choice very unexpected?

--Ig, my understanding was hollow points for urban environments to reduce ricochets. Or do FMJ with fragmenting bullets do that?--
Henry,
Given the proper angle any bullet will ricochet, even off of water.
Ricochets are somewhat reduced with hollow points but the main purpose is what FTL stated in that they expend their energy in the target
more so than FMJ.
For that reason they are banned by the Hague convention for use in warfare which we never signed but do abide by. The use of expanding bullets is authorized for anti terrorist shooting.
Handgun bullets travel at such reduced speeds and are so blunt compared to center fire rifles the chances of them passing through a wall or two and doing much harm is pretty low, even for FMJ. It can and does happen but how many times have we read of someone getting a 45 or 38 slug through a wall or two? Usually it's some drive by with a rifle out the window of a car or through a window of a home.
Fragmentation type rounds like the Glasers he linked are quite effective and I do use them in my 9MMKurtz but they're pretty darned expensive. You don't practice with em. They have a thin copper full metal jacket with buckshot type pellets in them to deliver maximum knockdown but little penetration. If you shoot somebody with one they may be getting back up after the initial shock.

His description of the cop rolling up to stop, frisk, question guys who matched the description of a just completed robbery suspects sounds about right. The kids trying to avoid detention and frisking (that would discover the robbery loot-- cigars and get their asses arrested) also sounds right... why did the cop shoot? TBD

I'm not yet sure what Officer Wilson's reputation should be. I don't know (maybe someone can tell me) how many shots were fired, how many struck Brown and where, how Wilson's injuries were incurred, when and where they were inflicted relative to the shooting, and much more.

Rick B,
Thanks for the upbeat link to Joe Miller saying he will support whoever wins the Republican Senate Primary in Alaska. I was worried about him going rogue.
The AP reports that at last night's debate Miller finally promised to support the Republican nominee in order to defeat Democratic senator Mark Begich:
But near the end of a televised debate Thursday night, the last debate before the primary, Miller said he believed he will win and would do everything he could to see that incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Begich is defeated come November.
"But if one of you two guys, I've never said this before, I'll support you guys. I will," he said. "We've got to get rid of Begich. There's no question about it."
Good job, Joe Miller.

I haven't seen any photos showing where the cardinals cap ended up. If they struggled in the car, the cap is probably there, no? If it's in the passenger side floorboard, it's probable it landed there as Brown lunged for the officer through the open car door v his squeezing his fat torso through an opened window that the cop supposedly extended his Mr Fantastic arms through to pull him into the car which due to Brown's size would deposit the cap in the driver's floorboards or on the street.

ISIS hates blondes. 'ISIS want to impregnate Yazidi women and smash our blond bloodline': Fears grow for the 300 women kidnapped from Sinjar

But in a furious bid to convert all non-Muslims, ISIS jihadists have vowed to impregnate the hostages.
'The Kurds and Yazidis are originally Aryans. But because the Yazidis are such a closed community they have retained a fairer complexion, blonder hair and bluer eyes. They don't marry non-Yazidis.

Posted by: Stephanie tortoise not the hare | August 15, 2014 at 03:32 PM
It depends, NK. If Wilson was unaware and Fat Dead-Perp thought the cop was on to him and bum rushed the surprised officer, I think it lends credibility to the story that a tussle led to a shooting.

"The announcement was met with immediate disbelief and anger by community members who insisted Brown wasn't the man seen in a security camera video of the robbery."
Responding to a question a few minutes back the Police Chief said that they had found some of the merchandise stolen from the store on the dead guy.
I suppose they will say it was planted on him.
Posted by: daddy | August 15, 2014 at 03:36 PM
"Not aware of the robbery report? well, that's not good for Officer Wilson."
Maybe, but the robbery still explains the aggressive response of Mr Brown and companion. Someone on his way from visiting sick people to go see grandma doesn't struggle with a cop.
Posted by: jimmyk on iPhone | August 15, 2014 at 03:37 PM
TK-- I understand and agree that's a possibility. I would add, the kids would have assumed they were being stopped as suspects in the robbery, and that gave them motive to resist, and to bum rush the cop, and his lack of knowledge of the robbery would explain his surprise. But the lack of knowledge of the robbery complicates Wilson's stop or detention of the kids. They weren't suspects, he was 'moving them along' out of traffic? at what time in the night? his lack of knowledge makes things more sketchy IMO.

That sounds sensible, TK.
If Fat Dead and his buddy did the crime and roughed up the clerk, then they were probably thinking that Apu from the Quicky Mart had or would have called the cops. Thus their state of mind would have been a bit different than just 2 innocent guys walking down the street when a cop car pulls up and starts talking to them.

Just bits and pieces:
The Police Chief said that the cop did not know about the robbery but was in the vicinity and that an ambulance was nearby because of some Medical Emergency. I could not tell from the Police Chief if the cop was in the vicinity as a result of that Medical Emergency, so don't know if he was trying to keep the street clear as a consequence of the Ambulance.
The Police Chief said that the cop questioned the guys because they were walking down the middle of the street.
As usual, a lot of things we don't know at such an early stage.

"Governor of Iowa announced: Iowa will not take any illegal children. Yesterday Obama overruled him and sent him 124 teens 13-19, landed the plane in Des Moines. Airport manager called the office of the Governor - Bransted, he drove to the airport and chartered a United plane from Chicago. Within 8 hours all the teens were loaded on, got food and drink. The plane left Iowa 8 o'clock Des Moines. Next stop was Honduras. Plane was unloaded. 4 social workers from Iowa made sure they got to the terminal, told the Honduras officials, here are your teens, they have no papers, you let them come illegally to America. Iowa refuses to take them. Iowa has its own laws. No minors who are not with adults. Iowa has not heard one thing from Washington. "

It was just reported on Fox News by Pentagon reporter Jennifer Griffin, that 90 Yazidi men have been executed by ISIS in a village vicinity of Mt. Sinjar. The women and children have been carted off, surely to be sold in Syria as that seems the modus operandi. Hey Barack Hussein Obama, way to go fella, now we once again see that your so called "breaking of the siege" at Mt. Sinjar was more of your lies and propaganda -- and this time more people had to unfortunately die as ISIS made their point in mocking you. You Sir, Mr. President are a piece of work and as I previously stated, an inhumane coward. Enjoy your vacation, dance the night away, play more golf but just know that you are an abject failure and just like Bill Clinton enabled the Taliban and al-Qaida to rise -- so it goes on your watch. Friend of the cop just called into the Dana Loesch show with what the cop has said about it to him/her/xher:
“He pulled up ahead of them. And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery. And, they gave a description. And, he’s looking at them and they got something in their hands and it looks like it could be what, you know those cigars or whatever. So he goes in reverse back to them. Tries to get out of his car. They slam his door shut violently. I think he said Michael did. And, then he opened the car again. He tried to get out. He stands up.
And then Michael just bum-rushes him and shoves him back into his car. Punches him in the face and them Darren grabs for his gun. Michael grabbed for the gun. At one point he got the gun entirely turned against his hip. And he shoves it away. And the gun goes off.
Well, then Michael takes off and gets to be about 35 feet away. And, Darren’s first protocol is to pursue. So, he stands up and yells, “Freeze!” Michael and his friend turn around. And Michael taunts him… And then all the sudden he just started bumrushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting. And, he just kept coming. And, so he really thinks he was on something.”

I believe a felon is generally one who has been convicted of a crime.
But if that's the case how can you have such a thing as a fleeing felon rule? You can only shoot fleeing people who have been convicted of a felony in a court of law?

"And then all the sudden he just started bumrushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting. And, he just kept coming. And, so he really thinks he was on something.”
Just as suspected. Toxicology reports will be interesting.

Dana Leech went full coward off of a doctored video of Bundy.
Her call screener probably shares her instincts when it comes to a scam.

Seems relevant and suspicious that the friend thought to claim that the cop never said "halt" or "freeze." Did he have legal advice?

DoT, if the Gateway version is correct, this was a fleeing felon case.

what is the 'fleeing felon rule'?

Trayvon got him some blunts. Michael got (stole) him some blunts. Clearly if we had some kinda blunt redistribution scheme, a lot of these needless killings of sweet little boys would stop.

Of course, the admission by the lawyer means that Crump's star witness is now hopelessly discredited.

I didn't realize I could shoot a fleeing felon, even as a bystander. Cool!

Over at Gateway Pundit:
“Josie,” a friend of Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson, called into The Dana Loesch Radio Show today. Josie gave Officer Wilson’s side of the story.
Here’s the transcript:

Sorry, should have caught up first.

Very nice... what do the applicable Mo statutes and judicial application of same provide with regard to police use of deadly force?

I initially thought Brown was fleeing. But if the friend of Wilson is legit and correct, Brown was initially leaving the scene, then turned around and charged Wilson.
