Everyone Should Be Able to Afford Higher Education

Forget all that other stuff, wars and terrorism and humanitarian disasters and potential deadly pandemics. Obama's keeping his eye on the ball. The little white dimpled ball.

from h&r link at 10:24

In today’s economy, some higher education continues to be the surest ticket to the middle class

I reject this assertion, particularly as to short term returns.

Per a PEW poll in Jan this year, in 2008 53% of people identified themselves as middle class. In 2014, that fell to 44% - down 9 points.

Upper class also declined, going from 21% to 15%.

Those identifying themselves as lower class (i.e. near-poor or worse), rose from 25% to 40%.

All that despite (h/t FB) those terrific program successes of the Obama Administration in increasing $ and decreasing loan pymts spent on getting "more people access to higher education".

I listened to that interview Dot, and my favorite part was about how all those WH insiders are just itching to publish their books about what really goes on at the WH.

Scarborough predicts Obama won't recover from it for 30 years. I doubt he will ever recover.

Finally, something to look forward to.

narciso

No, he doesn't, the point of fundamental transformation, is that the institutions no
longer serve their original purpose, hence it doesn't matter that health care no longer works, it's just you are dependent on the state for the remnant that remains. America, in Obama's view, is a misbegotten creation, an
evil empire that has exploited it's people, and trashed the planet. He is everything you went across the world, to fight half a century ago,

I don't know about that long term recovery Jane... wasn't Billy Bob able to overcome his blatant contempt of court charges? Was he able to steer clear of discussing that stain on Monica's dress after lying to the American people? Did he successfully excuse his extra-marital escapades by describing the meaning of "is"? It didn't take 30 years for Billy to recover, despite losing his law license, and shaming his wife, daughter, the legal profession, and presidency. I likely won't live another 30 years, but I think Obama will prevail... long before I die...regardless of his terrible misdeeds, miscalculations, and maladministrative pure acts of treason.

I awoke to Hillary's chit chat in DC this morning...I think it was held at Georgetown U...she was looking pretty grandmotherly and was discussing how she signed every single book she wrote with "Hillary" rather than "Hillary Rodham Clinton". She said she sat one night in a comfortable chair and turned on some classic movies. It was pretty relaxing said the witch who excused her nasty allegations about a far-right wing conspiracy against her husband on just politics during an election season a few years later. I hate that witch. I highly recommend everyone read Barbara Olson's two books with the one Peggy Noonan write in-between. It's great summer reading, if you're at the beach, people come up to you and ask what she is all about. Even then, women still hope to vote for her as the first female president. In other news....Kim Kardashian wants to lose 20 lbs. Teargas & looters return to Ferguson, MO following the "murder" of a young man and Obama has the most gorgeous smile in the midst of global turmoil.

Anyhow...I hope everyone is enjoying this fine weekend. Waterfront Festival up here in Gloucester. F.U.N., but I'm off in search of a new humble abode.
Wish me luck!

Reposting my reply to henry from the other thread.

Yes henry.

Students are no longer supposed to benefit from having financially successful, well-educated parents. That's only possible if those parents refuse to recognize what is going on. Otherwise you simply fix outside of school.

Missouri has been on this aggressive ed 'reform' kick for a long time. The shift to Colorado though meant that the aggressive model transferred to a high growth state with a large suburban population. Always Ground Zero for where the shift away from the Axemaker Mind had to occur.

On the higher education for all thing, guess who has done all the cited research on this point? A Georgetown 'economist' by the name of Anthony Carnevale.

Would anyone like to venture a guess as to the name of the author of those new workplace manuals published in 1990 that I wrote about today?

I have long noticed that the support for Carnevale's 'research' that the Gates F supports so richly is little more than "because I previously said so and it was published or I was interviewed."

One of the manuals contains the kind of bio on him I had looked for but never been able to find. He was an 'economist' for AFSCME before doing the 'study' that led to the manuals. He has a BA in intellectual and cultural history from Colby, a Masters in "social science and public admin" from Syracuse, and a PhD from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse.

Apparently the whole basis for referring to himself as an economist is his long time desire for the public sector to control the economy.

jimmy-should that be the basis for deferring to someone's economic opinions?

No wonder his cv was so hidden. He also wanted all readers of those manuals to know he was the "co-author of the principal affidavit in the Rodriguez case." That was the one arguing that education was a basic right under the Constitution.

SCOTUS disagreed in 1973 and the state litigation began arguing that it was a denial of rights to rely on local property tax funding. The loss of the Rodriguez case is still something the Left desperately wants overturned.

Rick B

"Who do we call when the people hired to do a job refuse to do it?"

Smith & Wesson. Colt. Remington. Winchester. Savage. Beretta. Glock.

They're much more trustworthy for those who realize they only own what they are willing to protect.

Centralcal on iPad

Have a wonderful vacation, peter!

rse

Obviously everything starting with higher ed was not replying to henry.

I just want to add the three women and Breyer are ready to overturn Rodriguez. They also understand that locks in the means of creating the needed History- makers through massive cultural change mandated constitutionally at the federal level. Bo wants that 5th vote desperately.

henry

So Carnevale is to economics as Obama is to constitutional law and Warren is to Native American. I'd notice a pattern, but that may be too axe makery.

Remember when I posted the brief filed with the UN conference on whether the lack of equity in the US can be deemed a race-based violation of a 93 treaty?

Obama’s just not that smart© Almost anything beyond reading a teleprompter is too difficult for him.

Perry's indictment seems to be based on the theory that political speech, governed by the First Amendment, may be criminalized if it causes a Texas officeholder discomfort. When that happens, it's criminal coercion.

I predict early dismissal or a Federal Court ruling on the Constitutional issues.

Thanks, rse. Rebrund Jasson was in Birmingham this week prattling on about economic justice and other leftist fairy tales. People with an IQ of 68 shouldn't discuss economics or justice. I will dance in the streets when that jackass dies. The sooner the better.

The video explains why MB was likely rattled at Ofc. Wilson's arrival soon after the robbery, anticipating arrest before Wilson said a word. What's incendiary is letting "the gentle giant" lie continue to inflame the public.

Miss Marple

OT Hoarder across the court from me has finally been foreclosed upon. They have multiple dumpsters and a forklift to remove stuff from the garage, and the 20 cats have already been taken to a shelter.

Very sad case.

There's a Walmart Supercenter 1.9 miles north on the same road as the Quick Trip which was exhausted by economic justice seekers the other evening. If the quest for wide screens and Nikes economic justice continues this evening, are the economic justice seekers smart enough to head north or will the thought of having to carry a wide screen 1.9 miles deter them in their quest for economic equality?

Porchlight

The Lehmberg arrest got lots of attention here in Austin and even most Dems thought she should resign, even if only to minimize their embarrassment. This indictment is truly from hunger.

Perry is very good at turning these things to his advantage. One reason TX Dems hate him so much is that they think he’s stupid yet they can’t seem to outsmart him. He’s their Bre’r Rabbit.

Danube on iPad

"I predict early dismissal"

As I recall, the Austin judiciary is highly politicized. It could be a long hard slog.

Porchlight

Yes, DoT, very politicized. But the final outcome of the DeLay case plus the fact that even Axelrod seems to find the indictment sketchy might spook them a bit.

James D.

Again I ask, why are there no big R names who can easily communicate the truth behind the leftist nonsense on higher ed costs?

"Look. If you owned a business, like a car dealership, and the government was giving guaranteed $10,000 loans to anybody with a driver's license, regardless of their credit rating or anything else, what would you do? You'd raise your prices, because you know that every single customer who comes in the door has a guaranteed extra $10,000 to spend on your product. That's what the government has done with college loans, and the colleges did the same thing you'd do. They raised their prices. They're not idiots. The government offered them free money, and they took it. Except it's not really free money - it's YOUR tax dollars, and it's debts that YOUR children will have to pay back to China. It doesn't take a degree from Harvard to understand any of it."

There. Even the average LIV ought to be able to understand that.

Porchlight

MM, my husband's elderly aunt, a dear woman, has had that issue over the years and I know how painful it can be. I am very sentimental and a bit of a packrat myself.

Jeff Dobbs

Deb:
This road is a shortcut between two busy business-district highways.

If you zoom out of street view to the map - Canfield turns into Windward, which dead ends into Glen Owen.

If you turn off of Flourissant onto Canfield, you end up in a neighborhood with little means to access another major road.

I think Wehner doesn't want to accept that a person is in the Whitehouse accomplishing his goal of knocking the USA down to an equitable size.

Wehner says that this is the worst time for Obama to be disengaged because it only worsens the situation.

Has anyone found any thing of substance that would suggest Obama wants things to be better?

He better get with the program and see evil for what it really is.

Rick B

OL,

I don't believe that would pencil out. It would probably raise liability rates higher than the additional liability premium currently charged for locating economic justice distribution centers near concentrations of economic justice seekers. Plugging economic justice seekers in the act might provide some personal satisfaction but settlement of the damage claims arising from sending Angel Mikes to their just reward would probably be more expensive than just passing on the increased premiums to the community housing economic justice seekers in the form of higher prices.

Carol Herman

Hands up. Don't shoot. BUT LOOT!

I guess the local cops showed the media what the "First Amendment" looks like when they don't show up.

Weeks from now (if it's like the aftermath of the Rodney King riots), little old ladies will complain there are no stores where they can buy milk and food.

So they go by bus, about 3 miles, to reach a supermarket. Then, they wait for a bus to take them home. When they get off the bus "teenagers" approach and steal their groceries.

Race relations didn't get impproved by the rioting. If anything, far fewer store keepers will want to open stores in those neighborhoods.

boatbuilder

JamesD at 12:26. That is an excellent analogy and clearly illustrates the problem. However, if any Republican candidate said that (especially Romney) it would be spun as "Romney says capitalists will exploit any benefit the federal government offers to raise prices; says he would do it too."

Wonderful:

"The saga of University of California, Santa Barbara feminist studies professor Mireille Miller-Young has taken yet another bizarro twist after her defenders urged a judge to excuse the criminal allegations against her because of the “cultural legacy of slavery.” Miller-Young pleaded no contest last month to misdemeanor counts of battery, theft and vandalism after she rallied up a small gaggle of female vigilantes and attacked abortion protesters Thrin Short, 16, and Joan Short, 21. The radical feminist armada forcibly stole a graphic anti-abortion sign from the two protesters."

I find Lehmberg emblematic of all progressive feminists and sincerely hope the video establishing her Democrat bon fides receives the widest distribution possible. There has to be additional footage of her endorsing Red Witch or Red Squaw as well. She's not the type to find silence golden.

Saleforce’s CEO Benioff bundled $500,000 for President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign and donated $300,000 to Democratic candidates, party organs, and interest groups, according to data compiled by CQ Moneyline.

The mostly annual "hit hits San Franciso" event* is to the salesforce.com conference. The conference is a big deal - drawing somewhere close to 50,000 attendees each year. One thing that occured to me watching the video of the DA in Texas is when she goes on about how they've just ruined her political career, how the newspaper tomorrow will report that she's been arrested for DWI, etc.

Does anyone here think that the woman ever, once, gave the slightest thought that the people she made a career of prosecuting were in precisely the same position she was in, felt just as helpless and humiliated and persecuted as she did?

Does anyone think that the experience gave her the slightest measure of humility, or empathy, or anything else resembling a positive human emotion?

I don't.

AG My People is correct about the video. Who can watch Angel Mike strong arm and throttle a shopkeeper and not associate him and his behavior with Obama/Holder's treatment of the American people and our Constitution?

Did Angel Mike display a greater contempt for the law than the Attorney General or Chief Magistrate? Is the level of sycophancy displayed by the MFM wrt Angel Mike different in substance to that which they display towards the President?

It's very inflammatory.
