http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/17/us/ferguson-mo-complex-racial-history-runs-deep-most-tensions-have-to-do-police-force.html?_r=0

The NYT providing the maoist self criticism going back all the way to 1949 to catalogue the horrors inflicted on St. Michael by white privilege.

Ignatz

If you agree with world class hypocrite Tom Steyer on the Skydragon fairy tale you are "super-sophisticated" and obviously "think about politics and policy more than five minutes a month".
The other 99.5% of us short sighted creeps just don't have time to think about anything except what impacts us immediately.
He didn't say if that is the same group which bitterly clings to religion and guns but I'd say it's a safe assumption.

I guess the one percenters are the doom of us all but the .5% group is our salvation.
I'd like to Occupy his groin with my boot.

Jane

It made my youngest brother even more conservative than me.

Glad to hear it wasn't all bad.

Jane

Accd to Kimberly Stossel, Steyer's attempt to earn $50m in bribes for the anti-fracking crowd isn't working so well. Apparently during midterms, the anti-fracking crowd is shrinking.

rich@gmu

more from the NYT article (it needs a really righteous fisking though)...

>>>Mr. Moore heard anger welling and listened to a shout of: “We’re tired of the racist police department.”<<<

Mr. Moore is described as a hospital worker (and man I'd hate to show up at his hospital if I were in a car wreck) ... but I suspect that he is an SEIU enforcer.

>>>Although experience and statistics suggest that Ferguson’s police force disproportionately targets blacks, it is not as imbalanced as in some neighboring departments in St. Louis County.<<<

fun with numbers ... interesting since 2/3's of the town is black is every driver stopped black.

glasater

The only thing Rick Perry line item vetoed was the monies to go to the public integrity section of the drunken D DA's budget.

Dem Gov. Nixon's presser Talk about insufferable. He's "working hard to get justice" with enormous help from "General" Holder. He's thrilled that 40 more FBI agents arrived today to conduct interviews. Pastors have been given witness cards to distribute to everyone who wants one. At the end of the presser, one of the two Dem MO U.S. Reps/CBC members (not Clay) took the podium and reassured the unhappy crowd that, though there's zero chance of justice through the normal channels given the racists in SL County, "General" Holder is ready to bring the kind of "justice" the unruly crowd is demanding.

Thats terrible.

The fact that she hasn't taken workman's comp for her terrible hip disability shows that she is a real humanitarian who is not interested in being a leech on society and is instead a public servant totally devoted

Ignatz

Heh, Alice.
The left views blacks as laboratory creatures to study in their natural habitats; sprawling rural farms with large mansions at their center that the lefty's family owned for generations and ghettos the left kindly build for any that escape to the inner cities.

Should blacks escape either of those natural reserves a lefty's first instinct of course is to flea and so they assume everyone elses is too. So when poor and middle class whites try to escape the crime, drugs and social pathologies their hopeless socialist ghettos produce they project their own fastidious racial peculiarities onto people just trying to escape the whirlwind they sow for others who actually live where they won't.

The indictment stemmed from a complaint by Texans for Public Justice, a liberal-leaning public watchdog group, which charged that Perry’s veto threat to force the resignation of a public official constituted an abuse of power. The grand jury indicted Perry on felony counts of abuse of official capacity, which carries five to 99 years in prison, and coercion of a public servant, punishable by two to ten years.

JiB, That gets me thinking about what we are and are not building any more.

I don't think it's simply golf courses. Name the last Airport, Nuclear Power Plant, Coal Fired Power Plant, Major HighWay, Major Port, Major Rail Road, Major Dam, Major Canal, etc. built in the country.

About the only thing I'm aware of that we are still consistently building, are facilities for the Federal Govt, Presidential Libraries, and Sports Arena's for the Pro Football, Baseball, and Basketball Teams, regardless of whether the Taxpayers vote against the damn things or not.

I'm sure I'm missing some items, such as the Big Dig in Boston (at billions in cost overruns) and the incompetent refurbishment of the Oakland Bay Bridge (at hundreds of millions in cost overruns.)

What have we built lately of consequence?

>>>So it's one of Soros' groups that's behind going after Rick Perry?<<<

I'd also add that the tin ear of Travis County DAs office can't be understated. I'm not a Texas resident so I don't understand the ins-and-outs and Porch can provide more color, but that office has not only county but state wide functions and since they are Dems, going after Reps is a sport for them. At the time of Lehmberg's arrest, she was working on some Public Integrity cases against various Rep officeholders. Perry used his line item veto to attempt to force her out but not to shut down the whole division (and he would have restored the funding if she had left).

Unsurprisingly no one could talk any sense into her and she stayed on, they lost a lot of funding and had to layoff some staff (but not her) as a result.

Interesting word, "demanding."

For example, here's how it's used in describing angry Ferguson citizens:

--Nixon and Johnson spoke at a church in Ferguson, where they were interrupted repeatedly by people demanding justice and objecting to the curfew.--

And here it is being used by Bloomberg and other Media outlets on 1 August 2014: President Barack Obama demanded the unconditional release of an Israeli soldier seized by Hamas

Here's Obama's actual "demanding" words:

"If they (HAMAS) are serious about trying to resolve this situation, that soldier needs to be unconditionally released as soon as possible."

I'd love to know what words came out of the mouths of the people in Ferguson interrupting Nixon and Johnson, so we could compare examples of their version of "demanding" speech and Obama's version of "demanding" speech.

Beldar had several comments at Patterico and I concur with him; the result of this overplayed, corrupt hand will be a stronger Rick Perry.

Miss Marple

The clearers of the hoarder's house across the court asked me to come over and identify liquor bottles in the house's wet bar (which fortunately had been sealed off from the 20 cats). They are Amish so were at a loss.

So I went over and identified stuff to be thrown away. Sloe gin, raspberry schnapps, creme de cacao, creme de menthe, peach schnapps, etc. A regular liquor history of the 60's and 70's. Filled a trash can on wheels with bottles.

Then I took my second shower. The first was when I went over to tell them that all of the silver was silver plate and not of any value.

There were 20 cats in that house. 15 have been caught and relocated to a farm south of here. The rest got loose and will probably show up on my back porch.

daddy

Thanks Narciso for the Beldar steers.

He has multiple comments at that Paterico post L.A. Times: Rick Perry Indicted for . . . Abusing His Power and Shutting Down Ethics Investigations??.

Scroll down to comment 69, but here's 2 that I think are of consequence:

69) There’s such a thing as overplaying one’s hand.

This seems likely to turn into a very brutal power struggle between the Travis County D.A. and not just the Texas Governor, but the Texas Legislature.

And this prosecution is so very much over-the-top, so wildly abusive, so obviously craven and corrupt and partisan, that even some yellow-dog Democrats left in the Texas Legislature may desert their party’s radicals on this.

But even if the Dems can maintain party discipline on this, they’re going to take a severe drubbing in public opinion. The people who’ve watched the drunken power-mad disgrace of a Travis County D.A. on video are not going to be persuaded to ignore that by some feverish argument that a state governor is committing a crime by exercising fiscal responsibility.

It’s a pretty far stretch to imagine Rick Perry as Obi-Wan Kenobe. Yet I’m pretty sure I hear Rick drawling to himself, “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can imagine.” Standing up to this corruption may actually be the best way for Perry to rescue his reputation within and outside Texas after his aborted 2012 run.

Beldar (fa637a) — 8/16/2014 @ 4:06 pm

71) My friend nk (8/16/2014 @ 12:27 pm) asks, perhaps rhetorically and perhaps not: “Can he [i.e., the Texas governor] condition his veto or non-veto on having a personal request fulfilled?”

Yes, certainly! The Texas constitution no more imposes a “good cause” requirement for the Texas governor’s vetoes than the U.S. Constitution imposes a “good cause” requirement for the President’s vetoes of acts of Congress. The Texas governor can veto something for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all. That discretion is intrinsic to his veto power, and anyone holding that office wields that power.

That he can, though, doesn’t mean he should. And whether he should’ve — or shouldn’t’ve — is for voters to determine, not the Travis County D.A. nor even a jury of twelve Travis County citizens good and true (assuming such can be found in Travis County, on which subject I’m unpersuaded). Voters normally can do that directly at the ballot box, by refusing to reelect said official (or in Perry’s case, refusing to support him for a new, national office). Or the people can do that indirectly, acting through their elected representatives in the Texas Legislature, who can impeach the governor if they find appropriate grounds as specified in the Texas constitution. But the legislators’ decision can be, and surely would be, political itself. And the impeachment decision is not itself subject to any “good cause” second-guessing (except by voters who are deciding whether to return them (or their fellow partisans) to office).

Right now if there were a public referendum in Texas in which voters were asked to choose whether to impeach Rick Perry or give him a medal for defunding this power-mad clown of a D.A., I’m quite sure they’d choose a medal, and probably by a far bigger margin than that by which Perry last won re-election.

Beldar (fa637a) — 8/16/2014 @ 4:19 pm

rich@gmu,

According to the NYT articles quoted earlier, the DOJ was already involved with "community affairs" in Ferguson.

Which answered 2 questions I had, why were they involved so quickly and why the tape and other information was suppressed.

It appears to me that the DOJ's involvement to help tamp down things actually help create the mess by telling the Police not to release important information that might have allowed some cooler heads to prevail.

It would have also prevented the family to portray things differently.
