Ignatz

And they have a problem with men and married women.
Perhaps that explains their desire to make every social pathology a subsidized public policy goal and all unattached third worlders into citizens.

Thomas Collins

My hope is that progism can develop a Rainbow Coalition of people who see through progism's talking points. A diverse group of Bitter Clingers is the goal!

daddy

It doesn't feel like a genuine and complete new post today at JOM unless this gal's mugshot is in the thread, so without further ado:

There, now it's complete, and we can now get back to calling the President an inconsiderate turd.

Jane

Did you really have to post that 3 times, Daddy?

I wish Fox would say - hey the president is 40 minutes late, we are going on to other things.

I'm guessing she's about 5 foot 3, 221 pounds.

John Sexton: Timeline Shows that Border Surge Began Shortly After Obama's "Prosecutorial Discretion" Amnesty

We've all had this intuition -- but it takes a careful researcher and writer to prove it is more than a mere intuition, but an actual fact.

Note that Sexton points out a common rhetorical error, that the uptick began after Obama's announcement of DACA. That's not quite true; it intensified after that, but began before it.

It began, in fact, with Obama's first, less ambitious announcement of executive amnesty, his proclamation that he would order Justice to employ "prosecutorial discretion" and not deport anyone except those who were guilty of serious crimes (apart from immigration violations).

Thomas Collins

What is His Oneness supposed to discuss today?

daddy

Jane,

I think it's like that scene in Annie Hall where Woody says he has to kiss Annie right of the bat on the first date, otherwise they'll have awkward conversation and trouble digesting their food and all the rest, so they do the kiss up front, get all that angst out of the way, and he says "Good, now we can digest."

If I didn't post her pic, half of you would be worried when I would post it, and the other half would be worried that I wouldn't.

Now we can digest:)

NKLoggin'IN?

Obummer late to his Africa presser?..... RACIST!

Jane

Well unless TM posts another thread.

NKLoggin'IN?

"Now we can digest:)"

NOoooo.... because I vomitted up what I ate... for the past 6 weeks.

Thomas Collins

Oh, His Oneness is discussing the Africa summit. Perhaps he will announce that Joe Biden is visiting the nation.

henry

Daddy, you keep posting that pic and I may never be able to digest again!

BTW, I didn't know Bigfoot was a school teacher.

Thomas Collins

Here's some help for your digestion, NK.

daddy

On the plus ...

If Matt Yglesius had his way, our President right now would be grossly late to everyone on the planet, but as it is he's only late across the 4 or 5 time zones of FOX viewers that want the SOB horsewhipped, so his inexcusable tardiness is only insulting 330 million people across the globe, not 7 Billion.

daddy

NOoooo.... because I vomitted up what I ate... for the past 6 weeks.

I am simply trying to help out JimmyK evacuate his bowels for his colonoscopy tomorrow, and I would have thought that fellow JOMer's would be patting me on the back for my efforts in helping a buddy get the dry heaves, instead of hammering me:(

Jane

Did you guys see this:

another journolist group - this one 10,000 strong.

Miss Marple

I would like to point out that at 5:03 I had a knock on the door and discovered a shipment had not been picked up by the mail carrier.

So I drove to the post office (7 miles away), dropped off the package and found out why (substitute loser mail carrier) and drove home in RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC and he still isn't ON!

I see Brett is getting snarkier about this.

Beasts of England

221 is a conservative estimate...

Thomas Collins

And speaking of digestion, I recall that on a prior thread, there was some discussion about a decent colonoscopy prep song. This may be as good a bet as any.

For the racist gardeners out there...

According to an academic, the sedate Radio 4 panel show is riddled with "racial meanings" disguised as horticultural advice. ...

But Dr Ben Pitcher, a senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Westminster, claimed the programme's regular discussions on soil purity and non-native species promoted nationalist and fascist beliefs....

Speaking on another Radio 4 programme, Thinking Allowed, the academic said: "Gardeners' Question Time is not the most controversial show on Radio 4, and yet it is layered with, saturated with, racial meanings....

...

Dr Pitcher said the "crisis in white identity in multicultural Britain" meant people felt unable to express their views for fear of being called racist, so expressed their racial identity in other ways, such as talking about gardening.

It's true that this crucial service will be eliminated by (C)ACA.

Doubt he has any pussy willows in his garden.

Good choice, Dave (in MA). No need to dig and delve deeply for colonoscopy music now that we have a Frank Zappa piece from the bowels of the Internet!

Obama. Most Africans ever here ind DC so thanks DC for putting up with the motorcade traffic.

We are seeing a more prosperous Africa and it's all being led by Africans.

We made important progress in expanding our trade to Africe. It'l make tens of thousands of new American jobs.

We will work with Congress to make a seamless contract to continue to work with Africa.

As I said yesterday we'll help them to build infrastructure to help increase trade.

Also I said yesterday we have to increase initiatives to help women.

We have to also fight against Aids across Africa.

And we are sending Public Health people across Africa to help fight Ebola.

The cause of the delay is glaringly apparent.

He is reading notes which suggests the prompter has broken.

I purposely chose this time ,right after 5:00pm to go to the library to avoid seeing preezy's face.

No one wants to listen to him anymore and all Bammy wants to do is change the subject. Go on vacation already and leave us alone!

Can you imagine looking at that face of your teacher for an entire year? I can just hear the kids now saying"Hot damn ,she got arrested! Now she can't be our teacher. Or better yet upon finding out she will be your teacher "Man.."

This is also an effort contributed to by the Private Sector so it is not just a Government effort.

second, we addressed good governance. Some nations are doing well but others are not so we discussed that today and I made the point that Govts that do what I tell them to do will do better.

We convened experts to creat a plan to help.

Third. Security. We are launching new initiatives to help them provide for their own security. Our African partners said they want to have better security so we are creating a new initiative for that.

We are launching a new quick response African Peacekeeping Team, and let me list a handful of African countries.

In closing this has been an extraordinary meeting an extraordinary summit, so we agreed this will be a concurring event so I will urge my successor to continue this summit that I started.

Question: Why the Ebola Serum

Obama: We have to let the science guide us. We don't know all the answers about this virus and the serum. But we know these countries where this virus occurs do not have proper health facilities like they need, so we have to take this seriously, but it is not an airborne virus, so it can be controlled by containment, so we have reached out to see if we can have Euro partners to help us come in and set up protocols about how ro do that.

Momma just came in and says there is a bear down the street Black Bear, so I'm sorry I've lost some of what the President said.

In short, our President says we are going to spend a gazillion dollars to help the people that I consider my friends in Africa.

NEW QUESTION. YOU WERE AGAINST BUSH BEING AN IMPERIAL PRESIDENT. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT NOW WITH YOUR COMMENTS.

What I am going to do is legally do whatever I can to help workers, make sure women get equal pay as men, make sure students can pay for college, I am going to seize those opportunities.

Congress can do more and their solutions will be longer lasting, but the Repubs are inactive in Congress. The American people expect us to work on what we all agree on and we are not seeing that so in the face of Congressional disfunction I will blah, blah, blah. within the confines of my Executive power.

I will continue to try to reach out to both side of the Congress to accomplish blah, blah, blah.

Regarding Immigration, we have a broke system and we need more resources to go to the Border and help these children and if I don't have the resources I will prioritize the spending of those resources, until the Congress adequately funds this.

Obama I am concerned that accountants are going to US massive corporations and saying if you switch your citizenship you will save billions.

That is not fair, that is not right. In the mean time the company is still using the benefits of all the US has built and provided for them, so I am asking Congress to look at this. Me and Jack Lew can't solve all of it, but we are looking to see how we can discourage companies from taking advantage of this loophole. It should bother Americans that people should be able to change their citizenship to advantage themselves and still benefit from the American infrastructure system.

We don't want companies that up until now have been playing by the rules to follow the herd mentality and follow the guys who have used the loophole so that is why we have to work quickly.

daddy

I swear he just strings a bunch of pat phrases together in order to fill time.

Yep, Miss Marple.

daddy raised an interesting question, about the shooter in kharga (sic) yesterday, this is the first major 'insider attack' since the Gitmo 5 returned to Doha, if they still are there to begin with,

now it occurred on the 8th of Shawwal, which isn't any date of particular significance in their calendar, when the Saudi government destroyed a cementary in Medina in 1926

daddy

On Russia, we don't yet know if our sanctions are working. We are not seeing investors starting new business inside of Russia.

It has presented a choice to Putin to either recognize that Ukraine is a sovereign country or to continue on the course he is on and economically hurt his people in the long run.

We are pleased our Euro allies are joining to help us. We will see what happens. The sooner Putin recognizes Ukraine as an independent country, the sooner this can be resolved.

The Russian army is bigger than the Ukrainian Army. Up until now the Ukranian Army have been fighting a bunch of Separatists who can't match the Ukranian Army. We haven't yet seen the Russian Army involved but if they do we'll have to see what happens, then.

daddy

I wish somebody would ask him why he was late, when previous presidents were not consistently late.

I swear he just strings a bunch of pat phrases together in order to fill time.

I used to work for a big shot at a large Fortune 500 company, and he would rehearse various paragraphs that he could put together as the situation called for it. He had index cards for each one and would carry them to events at which he would be speaking "extemporaneously."

That's how it works in the big leagues.

daddy

Hard to listen to him.

He sys we need god transparent govt across the world and that means we need good Journalists to do their job correctly.

Al Jazirah journo's in Egypt should be released from jail.

We have been disturbed by efforts to control the media and to control Journalists and the Internet.

We will work with countries that are not perfect on every issue, like human rights, etc. We can be effective by working on the areas we can work together on.

The good news in this summit is that more and more people across the world are realizing that in the absence of good govt the lack of good govt is going to make it harder to improve and help people so if they get good govt things get better (he said something like that but never got the answer concluded).

We will partner with African countries, and platitudes, platitudes, platitudes, and it's more than just us providing assets etc.

On good Governance, one of the best inoculations against terrorism is to have a govt that makes everybody feel they are a part of it and not on the outside.

On Israeli
I have said Israel has the right to decent itself to prevent rockets landing on population centers and to prevent tunnels being dug.

I also think it is worth while to remember that HAMAS is irresponsible at putting populations at risk but putting rockets in population centers.

having said all that...

the question now is how to we continue the cease fire and move forward in a sustainable way? Israel has to be allowed to finsih blocking the tunnels and stopping the rockets, but we are now in the process of helping to rebuild Gaza.

Long term there has to be a recognition that Gaza cannot permanently sustain itself if it is closed off. We have to see a shift in opportunity for the people of Gaza. I have no sympathy for Hamas but I have sympathy for the people of Gaza.

Can a trust be built? I don't think we get there right away, but some measures need to be taken to achieve all the crap I already said.

That linked piece* follows one of my least-favorite pundit frameworks. First, lay out a few paragraphs of some conventional wisdom. Second, spend a paragraph or two making it clear there's data that supports it.

Readers are now all up to speed on conclusions or facts they all more or less already knew and agreed with... so time for the pundit to just turn it upside down and show JUST HOW WRONG YOU ALL ARE. Say, by a using a single sentence paragraph like:

But this analysis is simplistic, if not outright wrong. The reality is more complex.

And now that you know everybody-is-stupid-except-him, the actual article explaining to you just what you he alone was able to discern among the deceptive complexities and nuance. Analysis too fine for lesser minds, like "The geographical breakdown of the U.S. into the four regions—Northeast, Central, South, and West—is not a very accurate framework for interpreting the country's politics"... (Never mind that our pundit is the one who put the data into those categories - he did that just to illustrate how useless it really is!)
