Spell Check taunts the NY Times editors with this gem on the US strategic pivot to Asia (my mockery):
The Three-Headed Monster Challenging Obama’s Foreign Policy
There are still plans afoot to shift the American presence to the Pacific over the next six years, aiming toward the moment when 60 percent of America’s forces abroad are in the region. But many Asian leaders question whether Mr. Obama and his successor will carry through. Many Europeans and Middle Eastern leaders see those efforts and shutter.
Close the shutters and lock the doors? Maybe! But I'm holding out for "shudder".
DD!! pitiful effort at 11:03. Go back to Prog Central and get better material for trolling. Then we'll talk. Or you can just get drunk!

Extraneus, It is my personal opinion that the democrats should be totally ignored on subjectys of national security and national defense.
They are either incompetent at it, not understanding consequences of their preferred positions, or are actively undermining war efforts for political gain.
They have proven this by only supporting military action when their guy was in the White House, and their obvious undermining of the war in Iraq (and now Afghanistan) proves they are uncaring about people in the Middle East or the security of this country.

Happy birthday, rse and Porch Jr.!
rse,
NSF is creating I-Node grants that will further accelerate high school as more vocational now...
I think you are way off base here. NSF is under congressional pressure to commercialize more of the University research it funds. In response, NSF has introduced a number of programs to assist faculty in doing so.
i-Corp is one of those programs, and overall it is a good one. I can see the results in the small business grants I review: those who have gone through i-Corp do a much better job on the business portion -- the IP, freedom to operate, the market, pricing, and company build-out.
It is strictly about getting technology out of the University and into the market. It has nothing to do with high school.
In fact, the program has been successful enough that NIH is adopting it too.
I have some quibbles with certain of the emphases, particularly since NSF's time frame for commercialization is too short for some technologies. Software can be fast, but the life sciences technologies can take more time than they would like (or fund!).
Also, I think many faculty are better at doing the pure research and should not commercialize the work themselves. So far it seems to be a self-selecting pool.

OTOH for Europe 40% of small potatoes is even less. Those free riders on Pax Americana are going to be uneasy riders now. Based on what Russian troops did to Polish and German women at the tail end of WW II, I'd tell the Europeans to lock up your wives and daughters.

The daughter would come home from school, roll her eyes and say Mrs.Y doesn't know anything about current events.

Dr J-that's why I put the link up, to get input.
Whatever good results you have seen though does not change the fact that every state has now adopted sector strategies, th feds are pushing Career Pathways and workplace skills as the high school emphasis for all, and this creates that web that fully intends to plan economies and has said so.
To get at small and medium-sized businesses the way multinationals are already compromised, the Trilateral Commission in their first paper on Industrial Policy in the US that came out in 1979 from a 78 conference created the term Enterprise Corporatism.
I am just putting these on the radar because whatever good you have seen, many policymakers are up to no good with these initiatives. Many a parent has begun to recognize they have no leverage on K-12 with legislators because they are addicted to all these other tainting funds.

The Center for Digital Government is excited about I-Corp. That should give us pause. They leove to feature Kasim reed and Sacramento mayor, Kevin Johnson for their vision. I-Corp is being touted by them.
