Maybe this will galvanize Obama into action against the depredations of Putin and his oligarchs:
Pabst Brewing to be sold to Russian company
What's next - Budweiser bing sold to the Euros... oh, wait.
We see some incendiary talk from the Russkies, not all of which is my fevered imagination:
In a statement, Oasis Chairman Eugene Kashper called Pabst Blue Ribbon the "quintessential American brand — it represents individualism, egalitarianism and freedom of expression — all the things that make this country great. Which is why we will pour it out like, well, day old Pabst and grind it under our heels."
I need to pause and regroup. Make mine a Stoly, straight up.
First ( and in Ukranian, in case you haven't noticed)

I was not playing. Cant lose a game you don't participate in!
Meanwhile someone yesterday posted something about Colorado registrations. It did not look right to me but I just now had a chance to double check.
Republicans are indeed outpacing Democrats in registrations. Current registrations as monitored monthly by the SoS shows 941K Republicans active registrants and only 884K Democrat ones. Here is the link for the data:
http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/elections/VoterRegNumbers/VoterRegNumbers.html
The math is 941/ 941 + 884 = 51.56%
So 51.56 - 48.44 = 3.12%. OR R + 3%
If Indys are 50%+ for Republicans ( I have seen no contention that Indys in Colorado are bucking the trend nationwide of near 60/40 to the Rs), the only way for Democrats to win, would be to have more Republicans vote for the Democrat than vice versa. I see no poll claiming that is happening either.
Perhaps the registration will change dramatically in the next couple months, but I sincerely doubt it. I like our chances therefore in Colorado. News the media never tells you.

Good evening, all. I have returned from the homecoming parade for my high school, which is also the high school my grandchildren attend.
The Grand Marshal was Rupert of the Survivor TV show, which was fitting because the theme of the cheer section tonight is tie-dye. Rupert has been surpassed only by the Kardasians in levereging a little fame into a career of being famous, although mostly he does it here in Indiana.
Granddaughter plays in the drum line, and senior grandson is president of the Booster Club which organized the whole thing, so I got pictures of both of them.
It is nice to do something like this which is so American and NORMAL. The neighborhood around the school (where the parade is held and where the grandkids live) was built between 1936 and 1956, so it is full of bungalows, cottage-style houses, 50's ranches, etc. and very well kept. All-American neighborhood.
People line the streets in lawn chairs and cheer the different clubs with their home made floats, including the Chin, who have a huge presence and are Burmese Christian refugees. Lots of little kids from the youth football program are in the parade, too.
Beautiful evening with no clouds and temps in the high 60's.
God bless America.

It was torture pron when she read Walker's statement (it is a sad day in Wisconsin when a candidate for statewide office borrows failed ideas from other states instead of addressing Wisconsin needs...). The anchor had to bail her out by switching to extended hours at the DMV to get valid voter ID. Local NBC affiliate at that. At least the did it on a Friday.

We have our first home football game this evening at the high school. I can hear the PA announcer as I'm typing this.
Gooooooooo Broncos! This year they have added horse noises, (neighhh) and the dogs aren't sure what to make of it. It's better than when they first built the stadium (seats 8K) and they thought shooting off a cannon for each TD was a good idea. The china cabinet and artwork didn't think so...it used to rattle the house something fierce.
There were folks tailgating at 5:30 for the 7:30 start. That I don't get. You can't drink anything alcoholic, but you rush home from work, load up your SUV with the grill, food, canopy and chairs to do what, cook, eat and be seen for 45 minutes before you load all the stuff back up and head to the stadium?
Dumb.
It's gonna be drum lines, cheers and the announcer for the next three hours and OMG that horse noise is annoying as shit - on every first down... really? The drums are fun, but OMG!!
I think I'm getting crotchety in my twilight years.

Stephanie, The school district I live in has a jumbotron, artificial turf, and a locker room building with CEDAR lockers.
This is not my grandkids' district, which has artificial turf this year put in by a local car dealer, who also did 4 other local high schools. He got his name put on the stadium in a big banner.
The stadium isn't as large as the one you descibe, BUT it has concrete walls built by the WPA in 1936. I would love to know that concrete recipe, because it is still standing after multiple winters with below zero temps and nary a crack to be seen! This stadium was built when my DAD (SHS '36) was in high school It's the same stadium where I marched as a flag girl. My grandpa was an assistant football coach and coached wrestling at the same school (taught government, too).
This side of Indianapolis has families several generations deep. It is not the most affluent side but it is definitely the most traditional and conservative side.

MM, most of the parents around here have more money than sense as far as the football team goes. They just added a new locker room this year and turned the old one into a workout room larger than the LA Fitness down the street. Haven't been inside, but if it's expensive, I guarantee they have it. The stadium is bedecked in custom banners and flags hung from the light towers and around the top of the stadium. The 'really intense' football parents spend the four nights before every home game (from about 4 pm to close to midnight) painting the field and the end zones with the team name and the Broncos logos. They repeat that for every home game.
Insane.
Have the Russians perfected the golf club gun yet??

NEVER EVER EVER download a software update from Apple for at least the first month after release! Let other people be the guinea pigs and discover all the crippling bugs Apple managed to miss in all their pre-release resting.

You are fortunate James. I have a professional obligation to test this carp early (my products run on it, it is better when I find the bugs before my customers do). Right now the download is showing random numbers on time remaining. If it ever completes, I will see if my software still runs. MS and IBM usually break things all over, Apple hasn't yet. But they are afraid of Samsung and May have rushed this one -- "biggest release since I-tunes" does not inspire confidence.

"You don’t need to install the iOS 8 update on the iPad 2. You can stay on iOS 7.1.2 forever if you want. There is a small window to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7, but it closes any day now, and it won’t open back up. There is hope that an iOS 8.1 update will delivery better iPad 2 performance, but that could take months to arrive."

MS does a thing called "good enough software" where speed to market trumps initial quality. There is a good book about it (and how to deal with service calls) "Bad Software." With Jobs gone, I worry that Apple under stress switched to this Silicon Valley convention.
cc, I have an iPad 2 because it still loads new versions. Latest version compatibility is what matters, I worry less about running slow because I mostly use the browser and my products run in the browser. I had 7 app updates waiting today, all mentioned iOS 8. So I went to the software update control and there it was. I need to test the new Safari version to see if it broke Sencha frameworks in the way we use them -- I could search tech sites and find out but it is faster to dive straight in.

Ig, I saw this somewhere recently (don't remember where - maybe Ace's)
"I have in my pocket a device that allows me to access the entire accumulated knowledge of mankind with a few finger strokes. I use it to look at pictures of cats and argue with strangers."

For all the legal eagles out there, new course at the Miami Law for students regarding the Trayvon Martin Case. Thought by Jasmine Rand, of course.
The course will cover;
“Non-traditional legal analysis”? “Sociological intersection of race and the law”? “Use of the media as a tool of advocacy”? Yeah, that sounds like Crump & Park, alright.
Question: How’d that work out for them in the Zimmerman trial?
But wait, there’s more: “The course will highlight . . . the ability of music to communicate messages that impact legal reform.”

Why we're wasting our time here:
"One in three Americans can’t name a single branch of the U.S. government, according to a poll from the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
"The survey, which was conducted from July 8 to 14, and published Sept. 17, found that only 36 percent of respondents could name all three branches of government, while an alarming 35 percent of survey respondents couldn’t name a single branch."
