Busting out the Ebola humor:
A passenger who claimed he had the Ebola virus while aboard a US Airways flight destined for the Dominican-Republic from Philadelphia on Thursday did not have the disease; it was a prank. The unidentified man panicked a flight crew and 256 passengers before a hazmat team cleared the man after two hours of Ebola screening, according to Fox News.
A male flier began coughing and yelling that he was infected with Ebola disease and was from Africa. Video footage of the scene aboard the plane shows the concerned looks on passengers’ faces as the news spread of a possible carrier of the disease who was exhibiting symptoms.
...
When the aircraft landed at Punta Cana International Airport, four crew members dressed in blue hazmat suits boarded the plane and isolated the supposed Ebola sufferer. The man was eventually led off the plane and evaluated at the airport’s medical center. Hours later, officials said the man did not show any Ebola symptoms.
In short, the episode aboard the plane was a prank.
They laughed when he said he wanted to do stand-up comedy, but they're not laughing now.

As this thread is about the epidemic, I'll report my comment from the last Thread about Danny Malloy's state of emergency:
RickB-- fortunately for us Netmeggers, Dannell Malloy couldn't organize a riot, so the shadow of Prog Fascism falling over Ct. is remote. Of course TomM and I will keep our daughters' old field hockey sticks at the ready, in case they are needed in the cause to defend liberty.

The Town Repub I know, says the polls (Quinny) look good, but the Repub 'old hands', what JOM commenters would call White Toga GOPe types, tell him 'it ain't gonna happen.' There is just no reason for Indies to vote for rich Tom Foley, even though they despise Malloy. And the teachers/State unions will go all out, because Foley is a threat to their gravy train. Close, but Malloy will do what he has to do to win (he has no place else to go), including manufacturing Bridgeport votes if needed.

Jim-
good catch on that Oregon story. (IANAL) however the way those clips read it seems similar to what got the McDonnell's in trouble here; similar to Huma's role at the State Department (she had an official capacity at State and was consulting at the Clinton Foundation and other places on the side); and similar to Hillary pushing Hillarycare in the 90s. although I suppose it would be a stretch to say the "first lady" of the state has an official capacity would think they are running afoul of all sorts of state laws by running private consulting on public policy issues out of the governor's mansion.
Since she is a Dem and the "life partner" of the Gov, it is most likely crooked and illegal, but Oregon voters will look past that for the greater good.

The above link is to an article linked in Jim Miller's 5:18 PM link on the consort of Oregon's Governor. JM, each state's ethics laws are different, but I note that the article indicates that the Guv's counsel has stated that she is a public official under Oregon ethics laws. In the article a former Oregon Supreme Court Justice is quoted as stating:
Without studying the Oregon ethics laws, I'd be reluctant to opine that she should be subject to criminal prosecution or civil fines. But if the article accurately sets forth the counsel's and former justice's views, a detailed investigation is called for.

>>>“If she uses the title ‘first lady’ or ‘adviser to the governor’ when she’s consulting for private companies, that’s problematic,” says former Oregon Supreme Court Justice William Riggs. “In effect, she’s selling her special relationship with the governor to clients from whom she’s getting a fee. It smells bad.”<<<
This in many ways is the story of Hillary Clinton.

On a more general question: I think we are going to have to look hard at the ethical problems that you can run into with dual-career couples. (I don't see any simple solution to them, by the way, what with governments involved in almost every aaspect of our lives.)
While we are on this subject, it just occurred to me that Kitzhaber and consort probably knew about the Willamette Week investigation, and may have decided that it would be good to be married, just in case there are criminal investigations.

Obviously I still wasn't clear enough because I was responding to TK by pointing out it's hard to argue that it isn't a corrupt court when it stays a pro gay marriage ruling and then is a corrupt court the next day when it stays a voter ID law.

The MacIver Institute reported: Demonstrators gathered outside the Public Service Commission to protest against a requested rate structure change by the local utility company, Madison Gas and Electric (MG&E). During the protest, they decried the use of “dirty coal” and called for more renewable energy. To make their point, they had a blow-up coal power plant that was running on a fan powered by wind and solar charged batteries. Before the protest was over, however, the batteries died and their solar panel could not produce enough energy to keep the power plant standing upright.
