Too bad Ergodan can't be threatened with being dropped from NATO. If you think the European "like" Turkey, then you're mistaken.

Ergodan (sp?) HATES the Kurds. He's not going to "halp" them at all. And, throwing Assad into the mix is just his way of spitting into Kerry's face.

We get no advantage when we play nice with these people.

Gus

So it's become a game??? Obama is a clown.

Gus

Turkey like every other country on earth, had calculated that OBAMA is a LOSER, a pathetic sissy girl. It's not hard to understand. Obama is being BITCH SLAPPED by MEN, and AMERICA, ASKED FOR THIS.

Iggy

Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey would much sooner eliminate the Kurds or force them on the other countries than save one of them.

daddy

Gus

Yes Iggy, and what would OBAMA do to show some sort of leadership??? GOLF??

daddy

Richard Fernandez is on topic: I’m Just a Gigolo

The president is committed to jaw-jaw. And since he must jaw-jaw with the Turks, Iran, the UAE, and the Saudis, that means the Kurds must die-die. It looks an awful lot like the administration is doing the bidding of its allies and not the other way around. Maybe that’s what “leading from behind” really amounts to.

Miss Marple

I woke up to see that there is a big deal story about a White House aide being involved in the prostitution scandal in Columbia with Secret Service two years ago, but said person was given a PROMOTION to being in charge of GLOBAL WOMEN'S ISSUES and also the IG people who brought it up were put on administrative leave!

I will try to get some links but wanted everyone to know what I was talking about.

Miss Marple

Here's the Washington Post story, and I think it is on page one:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/aides-despite-denials-knew-of-white-house-tie-to-cartagena-prostitution-scandal/2014/10/08/5b98dc90-4e7e-11e4-aa5e-7153e466a02d_story.html?wpisrc=al_national

...about a White House aide being involved in the prostitution scandal...

Thank goodness we didn't elect that nice, boring Mormon Mitt Romney in 2012. Can you imagine how boring reporting about the White House would be.

Miss Marple

daddy, Thank God for the time difference so there is someone to tell this stuff to!

Twitter thinks PIERSON (the woman who just left as head of the Secret Service) is the source of the story. She was Chief of Staff for SS and got promoted to head when that scandal broke.

Those IG's being put on administrative leave is also a big story.

Hi Jane,

All sorts of action going on round here tonight!

Just ran the dogs out for the Midnight Head call. Had a beautiful full moon in the east, but right overhead and running north is a fine set of Aurora Borealis. If the moon wasn't so bright it'd be as nice a display as I've seen.

I love General Keane's description of what he thinks Panetta is saying about Obama:

Gen Keane: (Panetta) is telling us that the President does not have the will to make the tough decisions. I call that, in my words, he is paralyzed by the fear of adverse consequence.

peter

sure the moon is out tonight. when I wanted to see the eclipse it was hiding behind clouds.

For some reason , I find the Secret Service scandal third tier compared TP Benghazi, the IRS , Fast & Furious and on and on and on.

It is but it marks the first time an insider has gone running to the MFM about something and they chose not to ignore it. I think this might be a shot across the bow of the USS 404 that he can expect more scrutiny like this in the next 2 years.

Jane

Yeah Capn' you are right about that - and it also prevents that lawyer in the WH from becoming the AG (and is she also the person who was previously at the IRS?) Now that's one corrupt chick.

anonamom

?hit already noted that the SC yesterday decided to allow NC voting changes to go into effect.

Let's just call this legislation "tightening up" what had been a pretty loose process, including no more registration day of voting,
or voting wherever the heck you decide to show up, which the lower court said placed an "undo burden" on minority citizens.

Well, it also placed an "undo burden" on this white lady---to get an absentee ballot this year, instead of just faxing or mailing a note to my county voting agency with my name and address and signature and asking for ballot to be sent to me, I had to fill out the form that was mailed to me (and I assume all voters, and is available online too) with either the last four digits of my SS or my NC driver's license, AND my voter registration number---so I had to open my wallet and get those two numbers, and fax or mail it in.

This "burden" seems to be equally spread across all skin colors to me.

Miss Marple

Good morning!

The big deal is what Captain Hate says, as this was in the Washington Post and USA Today.

And we now have a pattern, people getting promoted (Susan Rice, Ms. Pierson, John Brennan) to buy their silence or protect them from questioning.

ALSO, the Inspector General people being placed on administrative leave as punishment for bringing up the White House staffer is a big deal.

I'm having trouble finding the strongly-worded-editorials from the nytimes condemning Turkey for not letting the 4th Infantry Division stage on Turkish land for the Iraq War. Anyone remember that little kerfuffle?

The Progressive Missionaries of Unhappiness

"The perpetually aggrieved deeply resent those who are oblivious to their anger. It is the theme that dominates the literature, the music and the political writings of an infuriated left throwing its anger at a mindless mass that is perfectly happy collecting paychecks, living in the suburbs and watching television. It is not their prosperity that the left hates, but their uncomplicated happiness.

It is this uncomplicated happiness that the left sets out to ruin at all costs."

reminds me of this quote from an older Sultan Knish -

"We have no grand schemes or manifestos, no glorious visions of caliphates and socialist republics, our vision is of our homes and our stores, our families and our friends, the communities that we have built and the small things that we have done every day of our lives for the sake of all these things. These small things, the little uncounted freedoms and the self-chosen responsibilities are our manifestos, they are our battle cries and they are what we fight for." ~ Sultan Knish We Are Those Who Stand For The Day - 11-2-2012

They certainly are, Janet. The Sultan is a genius.

I'll have to look at that NYT editorial later, but from Tom's excerpts and description, it sounds as if the editorial board has done the same thing as the Seattle Times editorial board.

For some years the ST editorial board has been complaining that Obama wasn't withdrawing fast enough from Bush's wars. Although they didn't put it exactly that way, that's a fair summary.

I started calling them the Defeat Now! caucus, and imagining that the editorial page editor, Kate Riley, would, from time to time, lead them in this chant:

"What do we want?"

"Defeat!"

"When do we want it?"

"Now!"

And now that Obama has begun a war of choice against ISIS? The Seattle Times is calling for Republicans to support our president.

One can think of a number of explanations for that change in position, but, cynic that I am, I am inclined to go with the partisan explanation and personal explanation: For the Seattle Times, Bush is a nasty Republican and Obama is a cool Democrat.

(Oddly enough, the newspaper is fairly rational on state and local issues, which makes their national stands even stranger.)

James D.

For some reason , I find the Secret Service scandal third tier compared TP Benghazi, the IRS , Fast & Furious and on and on and on.

I think the difference with this scandal - and the reason it might hit home with people who ignore or gloss over or dismiss all the other ones - is that it's not just politics as usual.

It shows that the President isn't even engaged or capable of competence when it comes to his own personal safety and that of his family.

Most people expect political BS and lies and can-kicking when it comes to the IRS or to the usual scandals. But not when it comes to a supposedly elite group like the SS, and not when it comes to armed intruders gaining access to the President's personal residence.

And there's no way for the MSM or the Dems to pretend that "everybody does it" or that this is just a political witch hunt by their enemies. This is the President endangering himself and his wife and children by knowingly putting unqualified and incompetent and dishonest people in charge of security at the White House. Even the L-est of LIVs can grasp that.

But all sides — the Americans, Mr. Erdogan and the Kurds — agree that ground forces are necessary to capitalize on the air power.
Oh, they do, eh? And I suppose we've gone to the British model (fight to the last foreigner) of operations, also? And it's Erdogan who's playing politics by refusing to fight for our plan?

The Rolling Thunder comparison was spot-on (actually, it was overgenerous; the Administration plan is more like "rolling drumbeat"): a limited air campaign almost certain to leave the enemy stronger than he was in the beginning. And if we're not serious, why should the Turks be more so?
