Federal Budget-- I don't know what mccarthy said, but here's what is driving the FY '15 budget and sequestration levels, the March 15th 2015 Debt Limit deadline. Ryan/Repubs passed this in December '13 in the hope they would win the Senate in '14, and control the budget resolution and with that sequestration and the debt Limit. This is my last clear hope that the federal government can avoid national bankruptcy. We'll see what the elections decide and what the repubs do in January/Feb. http://www.cbo.gov/publication/45101

James D.

In other words, CH, Democrats.

GMax

Handicapped people? Really?

After making a big deal out of Abbott wheelchair?

Think progs and other miscreants. She down to about that only.

NKreBootDeux

And Austin, Dallas Houston and San Antoine hipsters and the parasite gravy train riders. It adds up... alas.

lyle

particularly successful people.

I don't follow. This doesn't seem like the other three categories.

Porchlight

Yeah, still a lot of Davis signs in my neighborhood. It adds up, but not really. Perry trounced Bill White who was a decent candidate compared to Wendy.

jimmyk

I don't claim to have a great understanding of the budget process nuances, but isn't the debt limit separate from the budget? I suppose Rs could hold raising the debt limit hostage to 404 signing their budget, but I doubt they would do that. Better to pass a budget and force Barry to make a choice. I don't see the debt limit as the big issue.

jimmyk

GMax, I read CH's post as "losers who hate ... handicapped people."

Jeff Dobbs

That CH quote..."losers who hate men, losers who hate children, losers who hate handicapped people and losers who hate particularly successful people."

Captain Hate

That was difficult to word correctly; I meant to say that every category I listed would be hated by her supporters.

narciso

Yes, but I saw the producer of the Front Line piece on Megyn's show, they still hold on to the excuse that Maliki was the major stumbling block, the experience in 2007-2009, tells us this is not so,

as to those 'helpful' Syrian rebels, they are mostly interested in just another flavor of sharia,

More on CO early voting, from Red Racing Horses comments:

This is still VERY good for the GOP. GOP was 39.8% of ballots in 2010 and 34.8% in 2012. Dems were 33% in 2010 and 32.8% in 2012. Nate Silver estimates that based on polls Udall would need an electorate less Republican than the mid point between 2010 and 2012. Basically according to Silver Udall would need GOP ballots to be no more than 37.3% to have a shot at winning and GOP ballots are right now coming in at 42.7, well above the 2010 GOP number. by: izengabe @ Tue Oct 28, 2014 at 11:46:33 AM CDT [ Parent | ]
Depending on whose polls you believe Even a 2012 electorate may not save Udall. Gardner has uniform support amongst R's and if he wins I's, even narrowly, it's over. Granted, he might not, probably not even, and he doesn't need to in order to win, just saying, Udall has zero room for error and so far he's not even close.

Just a comment on Jackie O, reposted from the last thread.

the "classy" Jackie O, who came from a family of grifters, was trashing conservatives for killing Saint JFK

She may have done so, but her most famous quote was this: "He didn’t even have the satisfaction of being killed for civil rights. It’s — it had to be some silly little Communist."

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/kennedy-assassination-right-wing-blame-game_763637.html

I'll add: From what little I've read, to the extent she later advocated the "right wingers" theory, which I haven't seen hard evidence for, I suspect she was manipulated by RFK, who desperately tried to push it in the face of all contrary evidence.

I have no agenda to whitewash Jackie O, just reporting what I know.

NKreBootDeux

jimmyk-- for optimists like me (and paul ryan) the belief is that a Repub House/Senate can pass a a FY '16 Budget with further sequestration cuts for FY '15 (ie defund ObummerCare, Green Projects etc) and condition Debt Extension on that Budget being signed by Obummer. Obummer refuses Then the Debt limit hits hits 3/15/15, and the Congress passes temporary budget-debt resolutions for things real people expect the fed Gov't to do, but ZERO for the Prog nonsense pending a final budget. Obummer will refuse to sign that. This way, Obummer would unilaterally shut down fed Gov't exclusively over the things he wants. He would be Mussolini. It would be a smart shutdown caused entirely by an unpopular Obummer. hence, smart politics. But I'm an optimist.

lyle

I suspect she was manipulated by RFK, who desperately tried to push it in the face of all contrary evidence.

THIS I can believe. Not that I give a rip anymore, but JFK and RFK we're amoral con men.

clarice

Boston Gobe(1) attacks Fauxcahontas and Hot Air denies the claim that Christie is short sheeting Walker.

Porchlight

I suspect she was manipulated by RFK, who desperately tried to push it in the face of all contrary evidence.

This was largely ignored a few years back, but a book called "Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story" came out that detailed an affair between Jackie and RFK that began after JFK's death and lasted until RFK was killed. They bonded in grief, it seems, and it went from there. Ethel refused to be in the same room with her after awhile.

At first I thought "yeah yeah yeah" but many of the sources were high-level Kennedy associates who spoke on the record. The upshot was "oh yeah, that was common knowledge" much like Valerie Plame being CIA.

This article from May describes a new book saying she had an affair with Teddy too, and many other dudes as well:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2643369/Jackie-O-secret-affair-JFKs-brother-Teddy-shed-bedded-Bobby-New-book-reveals-details-trysts-Brando-Beatty-Sinatra-Newman-Peck.html

If true (and why not, nothing about the Kennedys would surprise me) she had quite a bit in common with her husband. Both husbands, actually.

narciso

narciso

yes, that author seems right up there with Kitty Kelley, and we know how diligent she is,

Captain Hate

they still hold on to the excuse that Maliki was the major stumbling block, the experience in 2007-2009, tells us this is not so,

They have to hold to that story because, if the MFM was willing to do a little digging, it would reveal a failure by 404 and Rodham that makes Benghazi look insignificant. Maliki's stance on the rights of the soldiers was merely a negotiating point and 404 used it as an end game in pulling everybody out.

Porchlight

BTW, in support of the affair story, it was immediately after RFK was killed in 1968 that Jackie agreed to marry Onassis, who had been pursuing her for years.

My guess is that she realized that she had lost her protector within the Kennedy family and that she needed to get out of the family and out of the country in order to stay in funds and protect what was left of her reputation.

Nice lady - not.

What I do remember was that the Kennedy press buddies always made it seem she was an arrogant snob necause she didn't let her kids play with Ethel's.At the time the WaPo almost weekly ran ads seeking household help for Hickory Hill--the turn over was enormous because the kids were out of control. Since then we've had a clearer picture of how bad they were (except for Kathleen who seems fairly normal).

Providence and North Providence, NK. Although North Providence became a somewhat tony suburb after I left (cause and effect, no doubt), when I lived there I got the privilege of playing pickup ball with those those who spent time in juvenile detention centers (or what my father would call the "bad boys school"). But they wouldn't mess with the girls, who had perfected a kick to the "area" worthy of a martial artist's kick.

she didn't let her kids play with Ethel's.

Replace "Muslims" with "Democrats" and this is still a true assertion.

jimmyk

That Vaughn piece is a pretty big stretch, but he doesn't even mention the rumor that Jackie and RFK were having an affair. That would be extra motive for Onassis.

lyle

From NK's 1:47:

Except for congressional elections, the most important election this year is the close race for governor of Wisconsin. Gov. Scott Walker has shown that he has substance and guts, rather than image and rhetoric, by opposing the government employee unions that have been bleeding the taxpayers. He would make a far better Republican presidential candidate in 2016 than congressional phrase-makers or a retreaded candidate who lost in 2012.

Or 2008. Retread, indeed.

NKreBootDeux

Ari O was an amoral man who skirted or violated the law as he pleased. Putting up the dough to off RFK?, completely in the realm of possibility. Of course, some tangible evidence would be nice.

Jackie was like a very pretty horse with not much going on upstairs. The perfect trophy wife to trot out. Knowing the Kennedy clan, it was probably a well thought out political move. Check box "A" and move on to the next part of the strategy.

Been following the conversation regarding Jackie B/K/O and I think all her negative or most of them ocurred after her installment into the Kennedy family. My aunt was an East Hampton Tiffany who knew the Auchincloss family and the kids very well. They belonged to Maidstone together and saw each other frequently.

After she married my uncle and started helping out in the business the Bouvier girls made frequent visits to the store for bikes, surf rafts, tennis supplies, etc. My aunt was always complementary of them and followed both of their careers cafefully. I never heard Aunt Tiff say one negative thing about Jackie or Lee.

And she was no Democrat!

I want to second jib's rec of Matthew Pearl's The Technologists. A tremendously entertaining read.

jimmy-part of the problem with MIT is the profs there who have pushed the idea that social systems can be made through the behavioral sciences to function in determinable ways. It starts with treating people as mere systems and goes from there.

Never underestimate how influential Donald Schon's work has been in the social sciences, especially ed and urban planning.

I am not to happy with either Peter Senge's or Alex "Sandy" Pentland's vision at the moment either. And the MIT Media Lab is heavily involved with pushing gaming in the classroom and substituting visual images for print as 'experiential.'

Oh and Nicholas Negroponte is involved with the Club of Budapest and lots of the Harvard ed profs have ai degrees from MIT.

Back after JFK was killed, Jackie discovered that Rose, the matriarch, hated her guts. And, closed the Kennedy purse. Why? Because her husband was deal. But Joe and Rose were not.

Onassis became a choice because (believe it or not), he was NOT ugly! I saw them, as a couple, coming into a 57th street restaurant, because Jackie needed to use the bathroom.

Onassis went over to the small bar to wait. And, other than the fact that he was short, he had lots of sex appeal.

Heck, I can remember, when I was young, my mom telling men just because a man is handsome, doesn't mean he's got a happy wife. Then, she added that I should notice pretty women married to what I considered ugly men ... And, they were usually smiling from ear to ear. My mom's point? They were great in the sack!

While women married to handsome men (who couldn't deliver in the sack), usually had acne.

Onanssis' reputation was that he was a titan in the bedroom. Able to hold it up for a very long time.

Yes, Onassis turned out to treat Jackie poorly. But then? Jackie got even.

She got out. And, switched to a religious Jewish man who took the paltry sum she got from Onassis. And, by investing turned it over multiple millions of times.

James D.

When he's fired at the end of the season, NY Jets General Manager John Idzik might consider a job as White house Press Secretary, considering his performance at his press conference yesterday:

New York Jets general manager John Idzik mentioned the team's 1-7 record nine times during a nearly 2,500-word opening statement at his midseason news conference Monday. Idzik used variations of the word "disappointed" six times. He used the word "personal" six times and a variation of "responsible" five times. "Care deeply" and "hurt" each made four appearances.

and

"I've been a part of this plan," Idzik said. "I've experienced this plan. I know it works. Our plan is not only to win now, but win into the future. Easy to say, harder to do. They are not mutually exclusive."

and

Idzik is often disparaged as an automaton who parries back at reasonable questions by saying it's not his "policy" to divulge answers or details about "organizational decisions."

He'd fit right in next to Josh Earnest, wouldn't he?

James D.

If I suspect that Christie's holding back on Walker facilitated a Walker loss, and Christie is nominated by the GOP as its standard bearer in 2016, I'd consider sitting out the election.

I understand the arguments on why that's a stupid idea. I also have concluded that the GOP mucky-mucks need to understand that people they need to win in 2016 could be as wrathful against them as God was in the Hebrew Bible when the ancient Hebrews worshipped the idols. Better they think that God's wrath against idol worshippers would be as a gentle breeze when set against what they would face if they shaft Walker.

Porchlight, I don't even think Christie would be a good candidate. His mix of humor and bullying, I think, plays better in a NJ Governor than it would as a POTUS candidate.
