Obama delivers the old standby for his parties mid-term failures - it is the messaging, not the policies. Here he goes:
"...we stopped paying attention to the fact that leadership isn’t just legislation. That it’s a matter of persuading people. And giving them confidence and bringing them together. And setting a tone. And making an argument that people can understand. And I think that we haven’t always been successful at that”.
Ooops, my bad - that was Sooo 2010. Here he goes again, with his quadrennial whinging to 60 Minutes:
WASHINGTON — Just days after his party was routed in the midterm elections, President Obama said that he and his White House team had not succeeded in effectively selling the benefits of his policies to the American people, calling it a “failure of politics” that he must change in the final two years of his presidency.
“It’s not enough just to build a better mousetrap,” Mr. Obama said in an interview that was taped Friday at the White House and broadcast Sunday on the 60th anniversary of CBS’s “Face the Nation” program. “People don’t automatically come beating to your door. We’ve got to sell it. We’ve got to reach out to the other side and, where possible, persuade.”
Just offhand, I don't think Obama's opposition to the Keystone pipeline can be scored as a better mousetrap misunderstood by an ignorant public. On the other hand, I suppose winning "Lie of the Year" for 2013 with 'If you like your health care plan, you can keep it' could be offered as an example of poor messaging. Or outright lying about an unpopular feature of an Obama policy.
Well. Problems in ObamaWorld are always the fault of the bitter-clingers in flyover country who simply fail to grasp Obama's genius. Sometimes they are diseased, other times they aren't paying attention, but some day (he hopes) they will see his light.
Egads! What a fool. We can't grasp what doesn't exist.

Miss M,
I was surprised to notice that while hanging out at the large swimming pool in our very fancy Singapore Hotel the other day, there were no Tattoo's evident. I was sitting next to a cute gal, surreptitiously staring, wondering "OK, where's the gratuitous ugly tat?", but there wasn't one!
Then I started an investigation, Unbiased and Scientific of course, and no matter how hard I looked I didn't spot a one on the many female sun-worshippers lounging about. Either there were none, or they have all migrated to locations not immediately evident in bikini's.
Gave me hope that that repugnant trend may be on the decline.

daddy,
Around here the tattoo and piercing parlors are the fastest growing businesses. Seriously.
My dog trainer's wife askedme to sell an antique clock she inherited. At great trouble and some financial cost I did so as a favor. Got her top dollar.
So she came over to my house and showed me what she spent the money on...a tattoo of her commemorating her short career as a pole dancer!
I gave her the frozen smile and said, "Well, that isn't what I would have spent the money on, but it's your money."
She got $300 for the clock.
Very dispiriting.

"In explaining why he can’t delay, Obama told CBS News’ Bob Schieffer, “Every day that I wait, we’re misallocating resources, we’re deporting people that shouldn’t be deported, [and] we’re not deporting folks that are dangerous and need to be deported.”

Janet,
The whole point is to make it something outside himself, something for which he has NO responsibility.
Deportations and lack thereof become something which happens just because of some non-passed law or whatever. Blame-shifting is his stock in trade.
What's really annoying is that people like Schieffer will never call him on it.

I think he missed the whole point of the aphorism. If you improve on something already really good, it sells itself.
By a simple process of deduction I think that can lead us to a conclusion about his policies.

My favorite: "Another popular and widely held belief, that of the link between second-hand smoke and cancer was dismissed by the WHO’s study. Passive smoking was determined to have no statistically significant correlation with lung cancer and heart disease.
One area of the study did find a correlation between second-hand smoke and cancer as a result of childhood exposure with surprising results which were the opposite of what would be expected. Unbelievably, children exposed to cigarette smoke were found to have a 22 percent reduction in the rate of lung cancer as adults.
Beef, cheese, wine and cigars; Not only good, but good for you."
