The Mayor of Indianapolis, Greg Ballard, has announced he will not seek a third term. He is a Republican and very popular, having done a pretty good job over the last 8 years. He said he feels like it is time to do something else.
So, we are going to have a scramble here over who gets the GOP nomination next year (election will be in 2015). It is assumed that the odious Joe Hogsett will run, since he recently resigned as a federal attorney having spent the last 6 months holding a news conference for every single arrest made or lawsuit filed.
Hogsett was defeated by Dan Coats for the Senate.

Will the Sunday shows have DWS, Chuckie Schumer, Chris van Hollen, Nancy and Donna Brazile on to discuss the upside to this election and how it sets the Republican's up for a nasty downfall in 2016. This was their nefarious strategy and the GOP walked right into it. This happens all the time. Anti-incumbency. Wait until ACA and Amnesty click in. Everything is forgiven and we'll regain the faith and trust in middle class Americans as well as single moms, same sex partners, Hispanics and Blacks. There is nothing a little more free stuff can't accomplish.

Still waiting for NK's retraction of his plan to say "I told you so" that would happen when Ted Cruz cost the GOP a chance to take the Senate because of the government shutdown. It was said multiple times despite my and others efforts to say that it wouldn't have a negative impact, if any at all, in a year.
This is the last time I will mention it.

Capt-- please cite to when I said that. when you look you'll find I said repeatedly (as is my wont) that Cruz's ego fit was an unforced error, but hopefully would have limited consequences. As it turned out, there were very limited consequences because McConnell and Rance P ran the Repub Senate campaign and got the job done using realy good candidates and what RickB calls the 'turtle' strategy. It worked out very well. I await the citation.

And this is a very important discussion which I didn't want to start while we've all be so jolly about Tuesday's results. That conversation is: How did Repubs win, and what does it mean? The How is easy-- they ran against Obummer using the 'turtle' strategy and cleaned up. Obummer is now poison for Dems and he killed them. What does it mean? still too early to tell, we'll have to see what the Repubs actually do with the Budget Power. My hope? McConnell and Boehner/Ryan read RickB's comments, because his advice is the way to go IMO.

NK,
1. Demonstrated competency v. idiotic stupidity in leadership.
2. Keep giving him popular legislation to sign or veto
3. Amend anything he brings to the table so that it reflects the values of the populace who voted - lets get back to work - no more BS.
4. Find an alternative to McConnel-Boehner as spokesmen. We don't need another Dirksen-Michaels duo. No idea how you do this and who the spokespersons would be but not those two.
5. Be precise in picking the targets. Don't overwhelm the political system with too much garbage.
Now is a good time to bring the Senate into the Benghazi and IRS scandals. Keep them on the defensive especially nominees for AG and I am assuming SCOTUS.

Idealism and valor are wonderful virtues-- always. Sometimes in the ugly and cynical world of politics, however, they need to be backburnered to allow good things to happen. The King Faisal character makes this point at the end of lawrence of Arabia. Idealism and courage were the tactics needed in '10 when all seemed lost to the Prog Tyranny of '09-'10. More subtle and circumspect tacticswere needed in '14. Both worked, because they were both used at the right time. Important lesson for '15-'16 I think.

JiB--very good thoughts. Personally I haven't thought through the exact tactics, but generally I think they are pass popular things quickly that 6 Senate Dems won't stop to make Obummer sign or veto asap. Team with the House to pass the budget asap; this is the main pressure against Obummer, defund all of his Prog causes, make him give up important stuff to get them back. Spokesmen? Franky because the Media will be out to kill them, the less said by Repubs the better. Pass the bills and the Budget, make Obummer defend his vetoes and shutdown in March. The shutdown in 'March is 180 degrees opposite from '13. In march The repubs can pass continuing resolutions to fund what voters want (Soc Sec Medicare, debt service, national parks) and Obummer has to veto that. Repubs couldn't even get a vote in the Senate on continuing resolutions in '13. This is completely different.

I've only mentioned a couple of tactical moves to initiate the transition from the turtle strategy. I believe Congressional staff cuts is probably even more important than Keystone because it would give new members access to experienced staffers without having to vet for vipers. It would also dump more Democrats on the street than the K St houses could profitably absorb.
I'm really uncertain as to what strategy will emerge. McConnell's comment regarding the impossibility of unringing the bell suggests that the new Senate rules may discard 60 vote cloture, depriving us of some hokey cheap kabuki in the future.
The real unknown is the amount of damage President Obama will be able to achieve with continued application of his merde touch to the Democrat Party. We can count on continuing damage from BOzocare but I believe the President to be quite capable of inflicting even greater damage to his party. The Ferret is the only organ grinder left and she gives him considerably more chain than is wise.
Posted by: RickB | November 06, 2014 at 09:59 AM
Obummer Budget vetoes? I haven't thought through the tactics that far ahead (getting stuff passed quickly is the top priority obviously) I was delighted to see that McConnell said there would be no default 'of the nation's debts' or 'government shutdown' those careful words mean the repubs will pass continuing resolutions to pay %, Soc sec Medicare, defense etc, but those continuing resolutions won't pay for Prog goodies (or some Repub goodies for PR.) Obummer has to pay his Free Stuff Army, and the Dems will pressure him to 'make a deal'. So the Obummer vetoes are an excellent opportunity IMO. We'll have to wait see what McConnell actually does. Maybe he stabs the country in the back and keeps Leviathan funded and racks up more Debt. But at least we'll know.

As usual RickB excellent tactical thinking. God would I love to see McConnell cut Senate staffs, that would be a great sign that he understands who the enemy is. But I doubt it; McConnell's ego will persuade him that he can 'reform' them. I think something between '10 passion and '14 turtle will work best. The ObummerCare disaster will continue-- Employer Mandate kind of starts, '15 rates come out, and the 2% tax starts for the Lackwitz sisters and slackers. Those disasters, plus Ebola and ISIS might make the Dems panic by March, so patience will probably be needed.

Since the GOPE loves power and sinecure above all else maybe I've been laying the blame in the wrong place for some time. If actual conservatives and libertarian Repubs could get these GOPe dopes to see that conservative and libertarian policies result in election wins which result in power and sinecure they could finally see their interests coincide.
GOPe fills seats and goes to parties and hobnobs which is all they care about; people with principles govern and make policy which keeps GOPe at parties and hobnobbing.
Voila; symbiosis rather than division.

That ought to be on the agenda anyway, as it's good policy.
Not to mention all the other benefits: It pisses off the MSM and their corporate overlords, it makes them look like idiots, it'd be popular with the vast majority of younger voters and it's a (very tiny) movement away from large scale crony capitalism and government interference in the economy.

Gmax's state numbers, coupled with 250 House members tells the tale-- Obamaism has been a disaster for the Dems. The Dems have been ID'd with Obummer by a small but clear majority of voters, and they have been Id'd as anti-American Progs. The Dems can't pull off the 'faux' centrist nonsense in a clear majority of the country. In a 2 party winner take all system of elections, this is a disaster for them. What will Obummer do? Iggy@10:15-- that's what I've recommended for several years. Conservatives need to use GOP-e to acomplish what they want. Why would GOP-e go along eventually? for the exact reasons you cite, TP enthusiasm is where the energy and votes are. GOP-e only has the money, they need each other, but GOP-e really needs conservatives. Why the push back against Cruz then? because he wants to become GOP-e, so that's just personal politics playing out between them. Hold your nose stuff IMO.

Soylent@10:38-- I agree. I've been desperate for the Repubs to win the Senate and get control of the Budget... and see what they actually do with the power. As you say, Obummer is so predictable, so we know what he'll do. The Repubs with just a wee bit of guts can win the Budget fight, and possibly avoid national bankruptcy. If they bail, and keep ObummerCare all other entitlements and 2009 Baseline budget in place? Game over. It would be foolish from their selfish perspective to bail like that, but.....

BTW-- an early read. Will the repub Congress act immediately January 2d to pass a Budget resolution banning any funds for Obummer's Amnesty (see Conn Carroll)

that was as smart an investment as that Lone Ranger film, perhaps even White House down,

Greg Abbott won 44% of the Hispanic vote, Perdue 40%. The GOP narrowed the lead that Dems hold with Hispanic voters in pretty much every race, but those voters are registering their disappointment with Obama just like everyone else is. It would be nice, or let's say crucial instead of nice, to continue to cultivate a better image with Hispanic voters, they are an important voting bloc. Rick Perry was absolutely correct about immigration in a debate answer that ended his aspirations to be the nominee; I hope that Republican voters aren't so dim this time around. I hope that the nominee isn't urging self-deportation (poor Mitt probably wanted to go the way Perry was leaning until he saw the crowd's reaction, then figured that shifting right was the only safe place to go). Hispanics should be part of the GOP big tent, I hope they'll have a reason to be.

assuming Obummer issues Amnesty by Christmas.

I haven't had much of a chance to catch up with the Turn Texas Blue debacle, but this was fun to read from Monday:
Texas Dems aim for a Davis upset today - or at least real progress
Bill White lost to Perry in 2010 by 12 points, 54-42.
At last count, Davis is losing to Abbott by 21 points, 59-38.
30 million Dem dollars spent that could have gone to other races. 30 million Dem dollars spent in order to turn Texas redder than it already was.
Think Wendy will get that MSNBC gig?

RickB
Celinda Lake knew Tarrance was right but would not allow the Battleground poll to be issued? See above quote from Tuesday. Afraid the invites to the cocktail parties on K Street (with the big buffets ) were going to disappear if she told them what they did not want to hear?

please cite to when I said that
I've spent the last hour on this shit software trying unsuccessfully to find the comments you made. I know damn well what you said and so does Porchlight because we both pointed out that it was way too early to make predictions on the 2014 elections over something that would either be forgotten or not cared about.

NK, you could just as easily argue that Abbott's huge victory - considerably larger than Perry's in 2010 against the Houston sanctuary city mayor Bill White - was due to Abbott's anti-amnesty positions. He is a much, much stronger border security guy than Perry.
And don't dismiss the high probability that Wendy's extreme pro-abortion stance turned off Hispanic voters. From the very beginning of her campaign, she had a hard time raising money (compared to White four years before) in the heavily Hispanic areas of the state like the Rio Grande Valley, even though her immigration positions were identical to White's.
IOW "border security and pro-life" seemed to work for Abbott in 2014 much better than "border squish and pro-life" worked for Perry in 2010.
Amnesty is a LOSER POSITION, even more so now than it was four years ago.

narciso, the suggestion is planting evidence or tampering with it to gain convictions, but all we read is that he was found slumped over the wheel in his car with empty dope bags around him.

Whether the GOP congress realizes this or not, Obama has been rendered irrelevant. It is time to go for his throat.
The conservative side of this country has been the only side to observe the idea of "politics stopping at the water's edge" in my lifetime. Obama and Kerry (and Clinton before Kerry) have been so badly screwing over this country with their foreign policy incompetence (or malice--it doesn't really matter which) that the indisputably right thing to do is whatever it takes to thwart this administration.
It is time to put baby in the corner.
Capture the language. Whatever this monster and his minion, Reid, do between now and when the GOP majorities are seated should be characterized as open rebellion against the United States.

Abbott made a point last night that I had not seen illuminated anywhere else. He not only got 44% of the Hispanic vote, he got a majority of the male Hispanic vote.
The whole Turn Texas Blue nonsense was based on the mistaken assumption that Hispanics just loved them some moonbat Liar Party.
WHOOPS...

Porch-- I agree with that. Imo anti-'freeby' amnesty is not just necessary national sovereignty, it's good politics. Where is it written that 'latino' voters uniformly support freeby amnesty? Obviously LaRaza Progs do, but 2d/3d (8th?) generation latino voters? Unfortunately in DC the Repubs let the Legacy Media frame the 'amnesty issue' nationally (or the Chamber did it for them). The racialist Progs won that PR fight '07-'13. Repubs have to make it smaller issues like it is in Texas, border security, health and safety, working class jobs. When you make the question those smaller issues, Voters don't want freeeby amnesty, not even a majority of 'latino' voters. Push back against Obummer's amnesty is good politics.

At first when I see that I get depressed that more than one out of three voters chose her. Then I remember that half the world is below average and it gets a little easier to deal with.

Exactly.
Another point that our side can and should make is that the issue is not immigration per se. It is about wanting people to come here in a legal and controlled manner. And, more importantly, it is about wanting people to come here who WANT TO BECOME AMERICANS, not just people who want a job or free health care, etc.

They pissed away $20 MM + on her candidacy and their project that was destined to crash and burn. It was never going to work in Texas, and I could have told them that for free. Its not a failure of execution, its that the dogs wont eat rancid Liar Party dog food.

I just installed the narcisolator on my new laptop, and it's not working.I added my troll list, and both greasemonkey and narcisolator are activated. Any ideas as to what has gone wrong? Thanks.
Posted by: maryd | November 06, 2014 at 11:32 AM
JamesD-- exactly. "immigration' has to be framed in individual issues, that is the way conservatives can win. The 'Grand Bargain' stuff is what the Progs and Chamber wants. Screw them. We have a children's respiratory viral epidemic that probably came from Central American adolescent fence jumpers in '12-'13. Voters want that?

Pelosi per WashTimes: "She said the chief message she took from Tuesday’s election, which saw Democrats eviscerated at all levels, is that voter suppression was a problem.
“To succeed, we must inspire, educate and remove obstacles to participation. Only by changing our political environment and broadening the universe of the electorate can we build a strong sense of community and an economy that works for everyone,” she said.
