GMax

OH YEAH First AGAIN

Dave (in MA)
I think salsa has it all over ketchup.
Not an either/or proposition.
GMax

Even Jennifer Rubin gets it. Its a disaster for the LIAR Party

As with Obamacare, immigration by executive order is the gift that will keep on giving as members in office in 2014 come up for reelection. By the way, of the 58 Democratic senators who voted for Obamacare, 29 will be gone by next year.

NKontheNovreboot

MR. Maguire!!!-- oh my gosh. If you keep up this straight talk, you won't be invited to those posh not-for-profit organization cocktail parties in Westport and the UWS of Manhattan. I mean, you sound like one of us Serfs rather than the Gentry.

Captain Hate

So is the NYT editorial board admitting to going full Costanza? That to get elected a pol should do the exact opposite of what they advise?

The Liar party meets Cloward Piven.

NKontheNovreboot

@11:21 and 11:25-- the Media Progs won't admit to Cloward-Piven. When this goes badly for Dems, they'll blame Obama for being a poor administrator, who failed to make the Prog train run on time. USA Today and WaPo have already started, the Slim Dancing Chimps are awaiting orders from Carlos' volcano lair.

Thomas Collins

From a commenter on the Iowahawk tinpot quote:

"Actually, we Mexicans come because you leave the border open, salaries are higher and we think your women are easy."

I'd say that's a pretty pithy summary of the downside of current 404 policy on borders. I'll withhold comment on the final reason; there's no way I can figure out a comment on that without invoking somebody's wrath.

Jeff Dobbs

Whatever, Obama didn't even mention moats and alligators last night, so how engaged is he in the real debate about border security?

Dave (in MA)

I wonder if Obama was pounding down fried chicken and purple drank when he came up with last night's "pick our fruit and make our beds" line.

GMax

Mary Landrieu got exactly 18% of the white vote in the jungle primary. Zero has surely just reduced her share come December. Maybe he does not care about Mary. But there are more vulnerable Democrats than they ever realize, or at least admit publicly. White voters are spilling out of the every available exits. Don't believe me? OK, Tom Harkin left in lily white Iowa and sitting in his seat Joni Ernst.

And the most vulnerable Republican in the Senate in 16, in my humble opinion, would be Mark Kirk. He has the fact that Rauner got elected statewide, and can assist with the reelection effort, imcumbency and now can proclaim his ability to help restrain an otherwise out of control executive to the voters.

Seems like the gun went off in the holster and hit the Democrats in the foot, from my viewpoint.

Maybe the last white person out of the LIAR Party could turn out the lights...

NKontheNovreboot

DaveinMa-- he didn't really say that, did he. He must have been really stoned.

Pass a bill? well the Congress REJECTED the bill he wanted, in January they should pass SAFE and e-Verify and send it to our choomer in chief.

Captain Hate

Dave, I'm still waiting for Luis Guitierrez (C - La Raza) to object to that racist stereotyping of greasers and beaners his constituents.

Porchlight

However, the third claim - immigration is leading to cultural decline - when rephrased, seems irrefutable. Is immigration leading to cultural change? Hands up if you say no... I don't see any hands.

Who needs to rephrase it? "Cultural decline" as a descriptor works perfectly well.

Mark Steyn put it best, in his now-classic essay "It's The Demography, Stupid" in reference to Europe:

The refined antennae of western liberals mean that, whenever one raises the question of whether there will be any Italians living in the geographical zone marked as Italy a generation or three hence, they cry, “Racism!” To fret about what proportion of the population is “white” is grotesque and inappropriate. But it’s not about race, it’s about culture. If 100 percent of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy, it doesn’t matter whether 70 percent of them are “white” or only 5 percent are. But, if one part of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy and the other doesn’t, then it becomes a matter of great importance whether the part that does is 90 percent of the population or only 60, 50, 45 percent.”

Are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents’ arms, or are we a nation that values families and works together to keep them together?"

Porchlight

Thomas Collins

Keep in mind that Obama wants fundamental transformation. For him, losing a few Dem seats is worth it as long as his diktats are successfully implemented. At this point, given the GOP's tendency to conserve the level of "administrative stateness" handed to them when the GOP is in control, thus paving the way for further Dem encroachments on liberty and American sovereignty when the Dems are in power, I'd say Obama is the favorite to keep both 404Care and the current immigration diktat in place.

Dave (in MA)

Does the E. coli on the lettuce get amnesty?

exdemocrat

The issue here (for me at least) is not the pros and cons of cultural diversity (which can be achieved in many different, legal ways) but respect for the Constitution.

The critical ‘benefits’ to illegal aliens proposed by Obama, in return for them voluntarily ‘coming out from the shadows,’ are (a) the CERTAINTY of knowing that if they fall within the designated category, they will definitely not be deported, and (b) that this new status will be PERMANENT rather than temporary.

Yet, as can be seen here (http://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/olc/opinions/attachments/2014/11/20/2014-11-19-auth-prioritize-removal.pdf - see esp. Section A), Obama’s own Justice Department has already told him that while it is OK for DHS to TEMPORARILY decline to deport the least troubling illegals ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS, it may NOT constitutionally PERMANENTLY decline to deport a designated CATEGORY of illegals.

In other words, Obama already knows without any doubt that his proposed executive action represents unconstitutional executive overreach rather than constitutionally sound “prosecutorial discretion.”

And his groupies are OK with that?

"I have also instructed the IRS not to bother collecting corporate taxes this year - If Congress doesn't like it: pass a bill."
Is that cool too?

NKontheNovreboot

He's a smug bastard, but this conclusion is correct. Voter ID, has successfully prevented Dems from stealing very close statewide elections in the past decade. No other real effect, certainly no suppression of votes. Of course, what Silver doesn't say is that the Dems have moved past the AA 'walking around $$/boxed lunch"voter scam to the new Gordito ID'd non-citizen scam. This scam is fraught because the actual voter is ID'd and can be prosecuted. But if vote fraud doesn't result in deportation....

Iggy

Culture isn't only or even primarily salsa vs ketchup or guys with big hats and even bigger guitars doing the deep dish combo mambo.

Among other things, it's respect for the law as practiced here, it's respect for the institutions and traditions that make America what it is, it's a sense that America is different and special among nations because of those institutions and traditions and those who are here illegally have already demonstrated a contempt for those things, especially those who harbor the La Raza ideology.
If they didn't have contempt for those things they'd get in line and do it right. The only ones who have more contempt for those values are the leftists who cynically draw them here (and those idiot libertarians who think open borders is somehow a libertarian ideal).

OL: Lawsuits will be filed in Texas and Laura Ingraham says a member of Congress can file one for presidential over-reach and failure to prosecute the laws on the books. I am heartened by the very TEMPORARY status of this Preezy proclamation. It is a fig leaf for Obama and nothing more substantial than that. Who will police and make sure they don't get health benefits.
Unexpected consequence: Employers fire legals to get illegals that they don't have to cover with the onerous Obamacare.

4. Restrictions and registration requirements on the importation, purchase, and carry of all firearms below .50 shall no longer be enforced.

5. Enforcement of all current taxation of any person or organization operating inside the boundaries of the United States, in excess of 15%, shall cease immediately.

In accordance with the aforementioned EO's, I have directed the OMB to conduct a full audit of the costs of enforcing these laws, and that amount will be subtracted from the budgets of the Agencies and Departments affected for the duration of my Adminstration, and applied to the reduction of national debt. Further, a complete review of the job descriptions of all Federal employees directly or indirectly employed in the enforcement of these laws shall be conducted, with commensurate reduction in workforce. OL, I think the best way for Congress to deal with this is through the appropriations process. The next Congress should send an appropriations bill to Obama funding debt service and entitlements and defense and the federal governmental agencies, but should contain a provision defunding any implementation of the Obama Illegal Immigration Diktat. I think when the dust clears, Obama would win in the federal courts on whether he has the power to issue his order. The power of the purse, not impeachment/conviction or the federal courts, will be the primary Congressional weapon in the next two years. Even defunding may be problematical, because a big part of the diktat is non-prosecution of illegals, which Obama doesn't need any funds for.

If Americans keep electing Obama types, the federal courts aren't going to save us.

TC: Agreed. The voters have to rally against this injustice in 2016. The thing I regret the most about the unfair targetting of the Tea Party groups in 2012 is that it cost us at the ballot box. The lies about Obamacare and Benghazi also would have taken their toll on whether voters decided to trust Obama and give him another term. All that was hidden fromus and we were repeatedly lied to by Obama and the dems throughout the process. What saved us in the midterms was we were on an equal par in the money game and the ground game had improved. Dems emboldened by 2012 sent up mediocre candidates and a sorry playbook of racism and a war on women that fell flat on its face.
I personally like our 2016 bench as opposed to theirs.

NKontheNovreboot

DD's hitting the bottle and the pipe a wee bit early today.

The establishment media covering for the Dems in 2016 will still be a factor, maryrose, but I think it will be less of a factor than it was in 2008 and 2012 and 2014 (imagine what the Senate count would be if we had an unbiased establishment media). In addition, there will be some holes in the establishment media wall in 2016, although I don't see it totally crumbling.

North Carolina was supposed to provide evidence regarding the value of the Freeshit Army to be lead by Field Marshal BOzo after his departure from the stage in the Oval Office) but desertions among white women in conjunction with slightly increased turnout by white men proved impossible to overcome.

Another thing I've noticed re: actresses, on the dumbing down/juvenilization of the culture theme:

American actresses increasingly have the speaking voices of teenagers. Remember when women sounded like women? Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Myrna Loy, Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck...even later you had Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint, Audrey Hepburn. Marilyn Monroe was an exception with her breathy young sex-kitten voice.

Just a reminder of the insanity with which we are dealing:

Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

In order for a person to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) they must meet five or more of the following symptoms:
•Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
•Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
•Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
•Requires excessive admiration
•Has a very strong sense of entitlement, e.g., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
•Is exploitative of others, e.g., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
•Lacks empathy, e.g., is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
•Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
•Regularly shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

Kwanzaa drives me crazy. It's a made-up holiday from the late 60's.

I don't care if it is madeup. So was Mother's Day, once upon a time.

What I hate are all of the media people and the crunchy granola types acting like it is a real African holiday with roots going back centuries!

I look at it on the bright side, Porchlight: I have been given a unique opportunity for independent scholar anthropological field research on the Coastal Gentry Tribe. Admittedly, this tribe presents fewer [or is it less :-)]opportunities for analysis of tribal intellectual achievements than would be presented by, say, a tribe of cannibals, but one must make sacrifices!

Mad Jack

Big surprise but Massachusetts does not require one to be a citizen to obtain gov paid for health insurance. It says so in bold print on the application form. If Zero is going to now change that policy then maybe I can back his plan. Now it did occur to me that he might be lying about that part but I hate to think that of our President:-)

exdemocrat

TC - constitutional interpretation re separation of powers/executive overreach is right in the SCOTUS wheel-arch, no?

Marsha Coakley

technically it's not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts

Thomas Collins

Yes, exdemocrat, I think SCOTUS would take the case, and would hold that the case is justiciable. I then think SCOTUS would probably go 9-0 for Obama's authority to issue his diktat.

Porchlight

Yes, but progs are so boring and predictable, TC!

Another boring prog anecdote: yesterday was the annual Thanksgiving lunch with parents at my daughter's school. My husband and I love the food that is served in the lunchroom (turkey, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes etc.) and always look forward to it, but there are always jokes and comments from the other parents about the quality of the food, which drives me INSANE.

Can't we just be thankful for vast American abundance, and for the people who bring it to us, for once in our freaking lives without insulting institutional food like snarky ungrateful teenagers? Apparently not.

Blessedly, we decided to sit by ourselves this time and avoid other grownups.

You're probably right, Cap'n, although I stipulated families, not people.

I guess you'd have to define "celebrate," too. I bet a lot of people own some junky Kwanzaa decorations and put them on a table next to the Christmas tree for a week or so, but that's the extent of it.

I believe the judiciary will respond that Congress has a remedy, impeachment.
