exdemocrat

it's a clear and immutable path to residency/citizenship for 5 million parents of anchor babies (and babies of anchor parents).
is that a 'nothingburger'?

Threadkiller

Really wasn't the Emancipation Proclamation of the same order"

We are at war?

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

It is just wrong. A Dictatorial proclamation on TV. How odd is THAT.

I SHALL ALLOW 5 MILLION ILLEGALS TO HAVE LEGAL STATUS!

I SHALL CHANGE WORKER VISA LAWS!

I SHALL NARROW ENFORCEMENT TO THOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS, GANG AFFILIATIONS OR TIES TO TERRORISM. ALL OTHER ILLEGALS ARE WELCOME!

THUS I DECLARE!

Doesn't even seem like America anymore...

GMax

There is no citizenship that Zero can convey. Seems like a nothingburger to me, your mileage may vary, but the damage done to the Liar Party is going to be real and measurable.

Threadkiller

It is Just As The Founders Intended, exdem.

/sarc

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

it's a clear and immutable path to residency/citizenship for 5 million parents of anchor babies

& their families. What is THAT? Aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins,
Islam - 2nd wife, 3rd wife, 4th wife & all the inlaws,......................
.................

Danube on iPad

"Which ignores that 5 years from now there will be a much larger group that 'No one was ever going to deport ... anyway.'"

Not if the law against future entrants is enforced rigorously, as Obama says it will be and his GOP successor can ensure it is.

I think there is enough of a distinction between what Reagan-Bush did and what Obama is doing that the lawsuit has a chance, Mukasey notwithstanding. I think they should file it and argue it, and see what happens in court. If the court dismisses the case, or rules in Obama's favor, I would lower my voice and set about the process of passing popular legislation in both chambers and making this petty, petulant asshole veto it. And I would visit unshirted hell on his future appointees.

Threadkiller

Residency is a requirement of gaining citizenship, GMax.

When you are fooling stupid Americans it is easier to do it one step at a time.

Ben

Yes some criminals figure in the mix.

But for the most part, these are agrarian villagers with a work ethic and family values par excellence. The have the sand to overcome substantial economic, cultural and physical hardships to create a better life for them and loved ones. Who has the hard heart to turn them away en masse with no recourse?

Ben

"We are at war?"

duh

lyle

I'm just a rube from the sticks so can one of you effete east coast CFB fans explain what is on those hideous UNC helmets? Thanx in advance.

Threadkiller

So you suggest constitutional amendments, Ben?

boatbuilder

Sure, Ben/Dana--life in the US of A is horrible and miserable for illegals, what with all of us rich white people keeping them in virtual slavery. But it would be unfair, unconscionable, mean and evil to...send them back home. Why is that?

Iggy

--Illegals are close to slave-labor in status. --

Then they should be emancipated to their home countries.

--Who has the hard heart to turn them away en masse with no recourse?--

If we continue to grant amnesty we will have most of the world here until we are worse than most of the world.
Who has the soft head to turn our country into a third world mess?

RickB

Boatbuilder,

Think Walker-Cruz. Cruz can run for both Senate and the VP slot, just as LBJ and Loyd Bentsen did unless Texas has changed Lybdon's law. Cruz wants to run in '24. He'll only be 54 and he will have proper executive experience at that point.

Jane

Boatbuilder,

I have bad news that I hesitate to share because I love love love Ted Cruz.

I met him in Florida, and he has a very mushy handshake.

Joan

Isn't the purpose of the red flag simply to enrage the bull? That's what I always thought. Didn't know it was to distract him.

Now I'm going to go back and read all of the comments--I usually do that first, so if the "red flag" has been chewed to death, I apologize. :)

Jane

So NBC and ABC changed their minds and are airing the speech. Thank God for the Big Bang!

Ben

"Why is that?"

I suspect it's a question you've answered for yourself but here goes;

It's that bad in Central America and Mexico, or haven't you been aware?

narciso

Reagan and Bush supported amnesty in the 1980 and 1984 platforms, yet after Simpson/Mazzoli, the GOP did worse with Hispanics than before, even in 88, with a candidate who had a latin grandchild, so cui bono, in the final analysis,

Jane

What was the relationship between the people who streamed over the border this summer and this announcement? If any?

Threadkiller

If the Liar party's constituents take two self-inflicted bullets to each of their heads inflicting one bullet to each of the heads of the constituents of opposition party it is a nothingburger.

Future presidents will act on the will of the second group of dead constituents.

Lollipops.

Threadkiller

I met him in Florida, and he has a very mushy handshake.

Didn't feel natural?

Iggy

--One of my nephews grew up on a dairy farm and he and I were discussing just how dangerous bulls are.--

That was the point of my 5:06.
They come in wildly different personalities but some can be very calculating and are entirely unpredictable and all of them can send a man air borne with an involuntary muscle twitch.

Jane

Someone should live-blog the asshole. I decline, on principle. I am interested in how late he is.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Yeah I'll agree with that, DoT.

I just checked the weather in Santa Cruz: Sixties as far as the app can see. Something to be thankful for.

Ben

"So you suggest constitutional amendments"

Huh? All he has to do is declare a national emergency on our borders and AUMF?Patriot Act reign supreme. Who can we blame for that?

boatbuilder

Jane-That is unfortunate.

When I calm down I think Walker would be great and Ted Cruz should stay in the Senate and continue to stir things up.

Ben

'Go above ground' or wtte, he's saying right now.

"Pay your taxes and we won't deport"

There goes the underground economy.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

He started on time....it is TV prime time.

Iggy

--It's that bad in Central America and Mexico, or haven't you been aware?--

If that's the criterion; it's worse than either of those in most of the world so why not cram a couple billion in here?
You wouldn't mind a couple hundred million more in CA right?

Some Guy

Really wasn't the Emancipation Proclamation of the same order

Ignorance on display again. The Emancipation Proclamation was a war order, and Lincoln knew it wouldn't survive the war. That's why it was necessary to pass a constitutional amendment.

Ben

Most Mexicans don't trust government. They like to be below the radar. Very smart I think.

It's an incentive for those with families who might just trust one more time...

Threadkiller

Doing to America a job that an American wouldn't do.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

How did ANYONE ever see ANYTHING in this joker. Oh my goodness...

"ripping children from their parents arms..."
Is that who we are?

Ben

He's full of his own rhetorical shite, but he's hittin' the right buttons.

Threadkiller

Declare what?? I thought you said we are at war, ben?

narciso

yes, the thousand of weapons that ended in the cartel's hands in Mexico, and Honduras,

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

He's seen a lot of heartache...

Where? When? When he played golf?

boatbuilder

Sure--I'm just waiting for the first amigo to be deported because he didn't pay taxes. Right.

Threadkiller

"The illegals who have been here long enough are just as American as Sasha and Malia."

I shit you not that he just said that.

Ben

'We are a nation of Immigrants'

Yeah but some got here ahead of the others.

IGMFU

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

Astra is working on her 3rd degree. Do we want to deport her?

What? Her 3rd degree? Who's paying for THAT?

Captain Hate on the iPad

You guys are watching Gaylord Focker? NFW.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

He ended quoting scripture & getting kinda emotional.
It was weird.

rich@gmu

yep ... he had some sob story too. nice. can't wait for the spin that this was the best speech ever ... even better than the one he loaded up for Queen Elizabeth.

peter

Castroesque

Captain Hate on the iPad

He's seen a lot of triple bogies.

Threadkiller

So you are against lines, Ben?

Should classrooms be limited by a first come first serve basis or should professors quit using that rational and stop complaining about classroom size?

Jane

I was so disappointed Boatbuilder.

Maybe it was because I accosted him in the hotel lobby before the cocktail party - but still.

rich@gmu

He didn't drone on for a Castroesque 4 hours. Thankfully.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

The whole thing was weird.
Not enough to please La Raza & enough to sicken everyone else.

Ben

Imagine a black man getting emotional. Staged but no doubt effective for the right audience.

Enlightened

"ripping children from their parents arms..."

I am like that! I did that just the other day and threw that screaming brat right over the border where it belongs - cuz I can see Mexico from my house anyway. And I plan on doing it even more now because I aim to ethnically cleanse the US of A of all the Stupid Voters.

/sarc off.

I detest this cretin. His lying, the lying liars that live off sucking his ass. I literally cannot wait for the day he slithers out of that office and takes the sasquatch with him.

Carry on.

Beasts of England

With the exception of a political barb or two - which I generally don't mind - I thought it was an outstanding speech. Not only was it solid rhetorically, but his delivery was quite powerful. For the first time in my adult life, I saw the guy as a leader and as the president.

I can't be any more sincere.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Ted Cruz with a limp handshake? Dammit!

Jane

BTW I did hear, and appreciated the info re: Martinez and Common Core - which is disappointing.

VP is really a nothing-burger so that doesn't deflate me. I want a face, not a philosophy for VP(as long as we have Walker).

I may live to regret that.

narciso

It's generally blanc mange, it had it's quota of Vizzini, but seriously it's like Star Wars episode 1, that Shakespeare line about 'signifying nothing' comes to mind,

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

"Obama moves toward the end of his speech with an allusion to scripture. “Scripture tells us that we shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger – we were strangers once, too,” he says"

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2014/nov/20/obama-immigration-speech-reforms

Beasts of England

And to put a finer point on my assesment - the reps should probably give up re: this issue, because he just sealed the deal. There's no upside now. Sorry.

Again, I can't be any more sincere.

Enlightened

"Ted Cruz with a limp handshake? Dammit!"

As long as nothing else is limp - I don't see a problem. :)

Yep - I went there.

Danube on iPad

The Emancipation Proclamation was in no way contrary to the will of congress.

See (again) Youngstown Sheet & Tube v. Sawyer (jCkson concurrence).

Jack is Back!

Back from Frederick's band concert. Pretty impressive performances.

First, Briar's Patch in Eeasthampton is a piker's estate compared to Fleur d'Lis in Southampton where JIB hangs his straw bowler:)

In Re: Red flags and bulls. Its bull.

Been to many bullfiights both in Mexiico and Spain. It is a very ritualized exhibition of sport and skill. It is in 3 acts. In the last act the Matador (the torero who is seniior and kills the bull) brings to the ring a cape, usually red on one side. It is used to ATTRACT the bull but the bull onlly knows its shape and movement. The Bull is COLORBLIND and the collor red respresnts nothing except blood to some adherents of symbolism.

Unfortunately, another misapplied or misconstructed cliche which seems to be dominant in our current culture.

Beasts of England

That's fine, narciso - but how do you think the average voter felt about the 'fury'. I'd say they came away thinking that it was a thoughtful and fair approach and that he - for about the first time - didn't come across as a petulant jackass.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

Looks like it is from Exodus 22. You know the Dems are big fans of the Old Testament!

20"He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed. 21"You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. 22"You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.…

RickB

"Again, I can't be any more sincere."

You weren't supposed to eat all the mushrooms, Beasts.

My God, but he is insufferable.

Lecturing us on democracy, Christianity, and the "rule of law" . . .

Worst president ever - without question.

rich@gmu

don't know what you were watching beasts.

>>>And to those Members of Congress who question my authority to make our immigration system work better, or question the wisdom of me acting where Congress has failed, I have one answer: Pass a bill.<<<

our petulant jack-ass in chief.

Threadkiller

Was he quoting the Quran or the Bible?

peter

I can't drink any more beer or Sancerre is what he was trying to say

Captain Hate on the iPad

So again he mangled Scripture amirite?

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

Or Leviticus 19 -

32'You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD. 33'When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34'The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.…

I guarantee the libs don't want to start embracing Leviticus. Chapter 18 will do them in.

Beasts of England

@rixh: That was a solid barb, but, as I noted, I would expect that from most politicians in the midst of a contentious issue.

@RickB: I'm stone cold sober. Which, I must admit, is pretty unusual at this time of night. Wish I had a handful of mushrooms, though. :)

MarkO

"Again, I can't be any more sincere."

I remember saying that to my high school girlfriend.

Joan

I'm not surprised Cruz has a mushy handshake. He has another flaw that worries me. I like the guy, but his voice is awful. Nasal and puckery and whiny, when, at the same time, he's usually saying things that I agree with.

Beasts, are you really, really being sincere? :)

rich@gmu

it was equal parts lies and sentimentality ... cloying.

he makes my skin crawl.

Ben

Not wanting to jinx anyone, but there is some praise for a certain someone. 'Balls' is the gist of it. Rare, it is.

henry

So, Obama delivers a chick flick and we are toast?

Captain Hate on the iPad

Beasts must've been at a get together where the did rails every time 404 said something ignorant and they went through a Scarface sized mountain of blow.

Jack is Back!

I don't think I would ever say this but "Go Raiders". There is just something creepy about Andy Reid that makes Belicheck appear to be the most fun guy in the room.

Threadkiller

"Who are the Strangers?"

http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/4303/

Maybe he needs to do a better job of explaining.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

Maybe Obama could let us know which parts of the Bible he embraces. Him & ol' John F'n Kerry seem to be big Bible embracers lately.

Scripture tells us to let illegals overrun America.
The Bible tells us global warming is serious especially for Muslims.

Big experts....

lyle

RickB, too funny!

narciso

'Dr. Evil' looks more beedy eyed than usual,

why doesn't he cite Leviticus, he expects his audience to know the passage,

rich@gmu

Posted by: Beasts of England | November 20, 2014 at 08:39 PM-

the devil's advocate. I could see it playing well in certain audiences.

He gave us a mawkish lecture that is going to do nothing to solve the problem and encourage people in Mexico and Central America to make the attempt.
